as for budgets...well originally my wife did shoot some 100+- euros free to start a small force to play with my oldest son... then things kind of developed by itself and now i am sitting on a fortune of minis and suplies....i am far an angel myself...i live constantly wayyyyy over a non existing budget and even this gets sometimes overrun by my biddings...but to tell you a truth... i am a hunter and gatherer at ebay... i have a reasonable ork force still untuched...some remarably usefull yet unused nids... aplenty of SM and an evergrowing shocking amount...(whats the superlative of heap? mountain???^^) of count as imperial forces...and yet when i see at fridays at ebay something my hands get all sweaty and my finger is on the trigger/mousebutton...dang i am sooooo low on selfcomposing....

What is nice about Vik's Tank is how inventive he has been with materials lying around his place, and recycling the materials like cereal boxes!
this is also true, i am a miser when it comes to use materials...i tend to use VA for almost any task at hand... that stuff works on everything!!! and when i get lucky cardboard fits the bill quite nicely...i could probably achieve much more if i wasn´t sometimes for my lazyness...and computer games and of course posting on dakka...sad but true...^^

ouch... you sunk my battleship...straight to the very core...i love to take my time, never in a hurry, there isn´t a crease crease on my clothes, never will, i am often like a blunt knife in conversations, i tend to speak my mind as is and i try not to be neat (neat is indifferent and i like a world of blacks and whites, no racism there just my vision of right and wrong). i would be rather be a judge dredd personality...but i measure people as i measure myself so it is even^^. i was raised to be a gentle man...not a gentleman... tho i tend to do be courteously around women but around guy...they have to work for me being nice to them^^ i think i am a child/ork at heart and this is a major source of energy as well as problems...

i used on one design screw anchors... the one that looks all grey...and also some beads for making ironed pictures and some kebabstcks...

The Body gaurds and doppleganger are cool, look like steampunk environmental suits, do they have torsos too?
You know, this is Steampunk. It would be possible for Her Majesty to look completely normal on the front, and then have an enormous walking, rolling or crawling Apparatus attached to her back. I know the Queen Victoria in The Affinity Bridge had an 'iron lung'-like life support system, with her lungs replaced with leather bellows and her heart supported by a pump.
now this is an even better idea than my can idea i had... thanks anvil, i will really try to make this one a working thing...hmmm maybe i could cobble something together like the orcish equivalent of grotzes to move the thing around...
I keep being amazed at the sheer amount of miniature companies out there and that I still keep finding new ones almost literally like every day.
Take this guy for instance, he would work really well as an Ogre in my Helghast themed army as a form of human experiment, they are a tad expensive though, but beyond that look really well and would look awesome along my Imperial Naziesque Guard.
what you could try for a naziesque army as ogryn could be werwolfs... there is a company that features minis that represent a thrid reich version that has heavy armored troops and mutants and stuff... and some werwolfs too...they could fit that bill...your mini kind of reminds me of these... sadly i forgott the company...

Hmmm, what happened with the steam-punk tank? has it gone to the painter shop yet? I was looking forwards to the painted glory of Her Majesty's most powerful tank!
the thing that keeps me from painting it is the sealing of the foam treads... i cant get out of the comfy chair for that... and of course now the work with the devils too...
A simple PVA overcoat,,,slightly watered down of course. Once that preotective coat is on, then the primer can be sprayed and then the hand painted camo.
well there was this whole discussion about miliputmilk...you remember back some weeks before... i thought this was the was to go...pva is much simpler...hmmm... maybe i can salvage some time tomorrow...but cant make any promises...
Well, my suggestion of PVA-milk was due to the likely-hood of you having the glue over the milliput, My guess is make sure the stuff get';s in the holes and craters to make sure the protection takes, then the primer should just hit the milk-skin and nothing else. Now for the Cardboard, that should also have a coating carefully applied to avoid moistening a tad as it were. Once the treads are dry, spray some 'matte varnish or 'ardcoat on the tank (Light coats) and then once that dries and hardens, the primer should be safe.
yep, thats for definite...also i am totally tangled in the scots atm...change of project was due... will come back with fresh energy form holidays and then the tank gets his well deserved finishing work...
hmmmm... can´t quite promise that order really... more like if i paint, i paint regardless of tank or mini... i think i switch inbetween from subject to subject...
Or you could base by hand. I know it would take a while, but then you don't have to worry about warping or melting stuff. Just use a house-painting brush!
Both. I generally use cheap water-based Acrylic paints for things other than metallics. I'll brush on a layer of grey, or brown, or whatever I want as my basecoat, then just go over it with whatever else.
Mind you, I've yet to do a vehicle (painting), so I don't know how effective it would be for something as large as the Steam Tank, but it gives you a lot more control over where the paint goes, and there's no danger of melting all your hard work.
yep, i am fully with you on all acounts...in fact for my airship i baught me a silver acrylic paint i will definatly use for the tank as well...also i think a light basecoat with cheapo wallpaint...the one you pour into off white paint to color it... is just the right idea... mind you all that talk about milliput kept me from my true intentions how to paint the tank in the first place... namly exactly as you described it^^...
well thank the mods you can get pretty easy better by just doing your daily readddakkaandcommentonviksthreadsasanicefollowerofviksthreadsusuallydoesohcrapiamalmostonholidays. well seems the medicine for your alements is almost out of stock...

Some steampunkish gear is just plain fun, I remember a few years back I entered a local Ork painting comp and it had to be steampunk in theme.
I did a Steam Dread made from assembly gears from watches and photocopiers and a thomas the tank engine toy oh and the dread kit which
was lead at the time and a pain to work with.
I'd love to see a Steam Titan conversion or a steam punk/ clockwork Hive Tyrant (how the heck???)

Stoopid here had an idea that seemed like a good one at the time for a Steampunk GB. Trouble is enough people have said okay and signed up Being my idea I have to co host the GB.
TBH my track record in them is poor and have only ever finished twice before the deadline
I have not got a great deal of knowledge about steampunk other than the cool factor! but I will do my best.
No idea yet what I will be doing but may sculpt some minis so I can kill two birds with one stone.

There is a steam punk Nintendo DS out there somewhere EB Games gave one away with a kids adventure game about 3 years ago.
Might have been either the golden compas DS game or Dr"Somthings" and the mystical village or something like that.
