i really want to join in this fun, but i don't really know what i need to do, i love to convert and to GS models i have plenty of orks and spacemarines laying around so, what more do i need to do?? please answer back, this page looks like a lot of fun
it's real simple to join. just post some pictures of work you've done, and what you paint. wait to see if people get in touch wanting to trade, and when a trade is done just inform Whalemusic.
ow ok, so i just need to put up some pics of my stuff is it ok to put ork stuff on this page because i love them more than space marines actually thanks
Skotter, post up pics of marines, orks, and anything else you enjoy.... you never know there may be some lictor style lurker who would want to trade Nid's or something
WM360, here are pics as promised. I still need to add some finishing touches on some of the nemesis force weapons, but i should be ready to ship out this week.
Here's a little something extra I threw in for ya, hope you like
@Shado.Raith: Very good touch-up! That's a much better rendition than before. Great work.
@Gits: That diorama is engenious and BLACKHAND should be proud, as well should you to be its owner. I like the special tie it makes to you by using you and your boys as inspiration. That was an inspired idea.
Edit:
@tCT: Awesome minis sir! That bit added to the knight firing is spot-on as well. You have near-perfect (I say 'near' because who can really achieve actual perfection when painting something that comes out randomly?) shading and color, something I think most people would take for granted, but that as a perfectionist painter I can really appreciate. Not to diminish the excellant work on the rest of the models, but that bit really jumped out at me. Wonderful stuff.
Thanks graven & cypher, lifts my spirits. It's a really fun scheme to paint and the models are sweet. I'm getting more and more confident with my airbrush. I really enjoy the results.
Sorry WM for using your models to test my airbrushing, but it turned out ok so no morries right?
ok, i need a ORK nob PAINBOY to go with a GOFF nobs squad im putting together. i have a tyranids and orks i am willing to trade for it. pics below of my schemes/armys.

PM me what you want for it and we can go from there. my painting is'nt great but i can make stuff, so just say if you want it not painted. thanks
NakedBatBoy wrote:Killamop and I are trading Ork Boys - though we figured out the details in PM's unlike prototype and archon.
I'll post some WIP's this week sometime so that he, and others, can critique.
This week? I best bloody crack on then.
No, no rush man. I just got excited and put a guy together (my favorite thing to do)... now I have to start painting... which is a lot slower for me.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, does anyone in this thread have some pointers for keeping shipping costs down? Killamop and I are in the UK and US respectively - maybe in the future when choosing someone to trade with I'll check to see where they are located first.. I found a pretty cheap way for him to ship to me using Royal Mail at about $5 but the cheapest I found for shipping from the US to there was a flat rate box for like $14 which seems a bit high... I was hoping someone else in this thread might have some insight. Thanks!
whalemusic360 wrote:Use a padded envelope, even if you have to put a (very) small box or container inside. Boxes, regardless of size, cost more to send.
Yeah, I suppose that's the best option... I'll just leave the arms disattached then I guess (as they stick out currently and the model takes up about a 1.5 x 2.5 x 2 in area.) Thanks.
If you have several trades in the UK, why not ship all to one guy then ask them to distribute... maybe throw in an extra model or something as a sweetener for the distributor?
Btw I am in the UK, not US as my locator suggests, must be my IP address.
O.K. guys. As many of you may know I'm not taking on any new trades until I get caught up with my old ones. I do however, have an opportunity for someone to jump to the front of the line if they're interested.
I pulled out an old marine (probably painted 8 or more years ago) in order to practice my OSL technique with my airbrush. He's my old paint scheme for my Mantis Warriors, not fancy but decently painted. I spent an hour or two cleaning him up, repainting the eyes, plasma gun, bionic hand, shoulder pad, etc. so he looked decent, then did my best on the OSL for the plasma gun. The problem is I can't use the figure in my own army any more. My Badab War era army uses all Mk 6 armor and earlier, and my "modern" army has custom helmets and pads... so there's no place for a normal Mk. 7 marine.
So, I thought I'd put him up for trade if anyone was interested. All I need in return is a bolter armed marine in your choice of chapter and as many extra chain swords as you can spare. (any race, any kind... I use them for parts) If you (or anyone reading this) have a lot of extra chain swords, contact me separately and maybe we can work out a side deal.
So, here's the pic...
The general comment (which I agree with) is that the OSL is a little big and bright... so it looks more like a plasma gun going critical than a plasma gun charging up in-between shots. Now... for a Mantis Warrior in MY army... this is a perfect representation of a plasma gun (i.e. one that's going critical). My plasma gunners ALWAYS blow themselves up by the second shot, and this particular plasma gunner has fragged himself more times than I can count or care to remember!
So if you're interested, please PM me, I'll post again here when I've found a taker (if I find a taker). Priority goes to anyone who has contacted previously about a trade, other than that it's open to anyone.
@dantay_xv well, i guess it'd have to be a race, size, theme deal. currently i've got orks (AoBR though), guardsmen and marines that i could convert into objective markers with a bit of time (i'm in school in the uk for 2 months then back home where all my 40k stuff is. what sort of markers would you want?
@shado raith.... I only run SW's so there is a few things I could use as an objective marker.
1. An injured space puppy... always good for a rescue mission. We take cae of our own.
2. Wounded or dead Dark Angel..... always good to annoy the DA and show them who is best. And to prove we take care of folks better grrrr!!!
3. A Thousand Son, dead or alive...... we hate them and would do anything to lay our fangs into them 'orrible traitorous wizardy types.
4. 1 of the Fallen..... always a good way to start a ruck with the DA's finest and maybe learn a few juicy secrets.
5. A big mammoth steak, Leg of pteradon and a big barrel of Bjorn's XXXXXXXX ale. Cos when SW's aren't fighting, they like feasting and drinking, so lets fight feast and drink
@Dantay_xv
I quite like the idea of either a (wounded) member of the Dark Anges, or a Space Puppy. it's all about establishing working relationships .
in return, I'm quite happy to make whatever you want on the same sort of size/budget. As i've said, i've got orks, SM and some guardsmen.
Perhaps a crippled marine pinned under the body of a dead ork? or a marine injured salvaging kit from a downed heavy weapons guardsmen (sometimes you just need a flamer to get the job done) etc. any ideas you have feel free to suggest, and i'll see what i can do.
Raith
I think I'm going to throw my hat in the ring here.
I'm not the greatest painter, but am getting better, but I love to convert things.
Everything I make, usually has to be bigger, and over the top. (to give you an idea, unpictured, my GK paladins are about twice the size of normal marines, and I have a master of a forge on a tricked out bike with a full servo harness popping a wheely off a ramp.)
My army(s) are
-admech based IG -admech based Grey Knights (well, grey knights painted a little admechy since i love the models)
-admech based SpaceMarines
I'm looking for peoples takes on admechy special characters for any of the armies and to replenish my bitz. I'll do my best to make your model be guitar-solo-awesome.
Thanks so much for the shipping advice. Makes me not as hesitant about the trade.. originally, when I typed in the dimensions of this hypothetical package I was getting estimates that it would cost between $40 and $90... Which understandably shocked me a bit.
I'm also getting a camera from my friend today so I can get some pics up of my orky boy.
I've got a taker on my OSL experiment (and got tons of good advice on how to do it better next time). Someone I'd traded with in the past, but he wanted to opportunity to try a new painting scheme. Works for me!
Thanks guys, I now return you to your regular horse-trading...
Ok, I borrowed my friend's camera. Here's a quick update of my Ork Boy I'm planning to swap with Killamop
My thoughts while making this model were that this Ork Boy-soon-to-be-nob just went head to head with a CSM and as he was charging in, the Marine just grazed the left of his face and blew off his ear with his Bolt Pistol. The shot was cushioned by the Boy's shoulder pad. Once the Boy made it into melee he took revenge and sliced off the horn of the Marine... and eventually hacked into and through the neck of the Marine. Once the head tumbled onto the ground, he decided to take a better look at his former foe, so he stabbed the end of his choppa into it.
Here's a normal angel of the model, to give you a sense of it's dimensions (sorry it's a bit dark)
Here's the view at his face of him glaring up at the Marine's head. You can kind of see the burnt mark into the side of his face, the missing ear, and the bolt pistol's hole in his arm pad.
Back view
And a closeup of the base.. it's a bit hard to see what it is, since it's transparent plastic, but it's bricks, and then either I can fill in the upper part to be like a sidewalk, or - as I was originally thinking before i experimented with creating bricks foe the first time - some sort of grating with clear gooey liquid below it..
Also, ignore the green on the arms, the upper torso was from an old model I took apart.
Suggestions and Critiques would be appreciated. Anything you want me to change before I prime him, Killamop?

That knight titain is pretty dam cool! The Mechanicus Stalker thing is amasing too!
Thanks, I'm trying to figure out some sort of hatchback for the smaller ones to convert them into transports for counts-as rhino's or chimera's but havent had much luck.
I have 2 sizes of stalk tank, the larger ones are leman russ sized tanks, have room for turrets and sponsons, and count as lemans, predators, or any other battle tank.
The smaller ones are slightly smaller, don't have room for sponsons, and count as chimera-chasis vehicles or transports, chimera's, hydras' razorbacks, ect.
There is a third varient which I've only test built is that is the smaller one, but has large claws holding onto terrain and shock absorbing reinforced rear legs, these will count as artillery, manticores, basalisks, ect.
All of them have turrets and sponsons that make them accurate for what they represent
HAZZER wrote:Hey nice use of the lighting I saw that on your blog and was thinking of say how good it is!
Thanks HAZZER, I appreciate it! Only my first try but a decent start I think. Should have a second go-round tonight or tomorrow night so we'll see what I've learned.
Update on Naked Bat Boy's boy.
Shoota Boy is almost finished, I need to do some more work to make it look fluid and nice. but Pic's should be taken soon
@ Shado, what kind of objective marker do you fancy having for your army. I gave you some ideas for mine, lets hear what you would imabine as a good marker for your guys :0
Good to hear! I havent yet had time to make the shield hands, I'm shooting for next week tbh, I've got finals on monday with projects out the wazoo until then. Then only 1 class left, ever!
That's exciting WM! I remember that feeling... then I decided to go to graduate school... then I went again after that... (glutton for punishment I guess).

I'm also happy converting bits and pieces, i've currently got a "communications" mast that would be easy to slap on to a base with a marine who's been downed guarding it and needs a revive, etc.
I could paint up marines from the Boreal Templar, or Blood Dragons, as well as Tau guardsmen, or Chaos guardsmen (nothing better than someone who has denounced the emperor to stir up the wrath of the marines eh?)
I could also have a go at making some long lost relics if you'd want?

Man I loved that feeling, even better when you're all done! Now just to find a job. Take your time tho bro, I'm in no rush
Up for trade, one space marine with chainsword plasma pistol and possibly has been blessed by the pope himself (no not really). Obviously this guy is painted and ready to ship but Im in no rush to disown him so anyone can claim him and Ill gladly wait to ship.
Close Combat footslogger marine is what Im looking for in return. Of course I have a wish list of Members Id like to offer trades with right now but most seem busy with other trades, massive threads, school, or something else. All other but Grudz, "Hey Grudz wanna trade some marines?"
@Dantay Painting has started on your marine
@Lorna We seem to have lost contact, you ok? check PM box please.
@ Hi, 1-i. I cant wait to see what you have got for me, I apologise as your assault marine has not moved far yet... am popping into gw this weekend to get some legs (could gs a wheelchair or something if you prefer). So watch out at the weekend to see what I have for you. If the assault marine you have there is anything to go by, I am gonna be a lucky boy.
Apologies for the large pics... This is my scout for trade, I have made a wee bit of progress, tidied a few bits up with gs drilled bits out etc. If Thing1 is happy with it so far I plan to tidy up the sword hilt (can change it if he likes) and tidy up the sword arm a bit plus marry up the backpack a bit & finish off the cloak. There is a lot going on and i had considered chucking more on but I think it would get too busy.
I also considered turning the head to look forwards instead of side on....
Thoughts please, however what Thing1 wants he gets... kapeesh!
Will work on the cloak and bits to get it ready, gonna gs the ork jaw to make it a bit more natural (also helps keep the model stable). Hope you dont mind it being a Bad Moon Ork head
No man, are you kidding?? That'll make it all the more juicy and exciting for him as he'll be rubbing it in my face every time he fields the figure (which you understand will be every battle from now until the end of time... cheeky bastard).
Do Orks bleed red or green? Some say green as because of the skin colour.... however I heard it was red because its hard to do a good green blood on green flesh (also pink gums).
I was just curious in general, as with all my characters I like to put a wee trophy with them, so if I have a bit of Ork then I know what to paint the viscera.
Hey your avatar has gone back to the Splitta himself!
Will pin the legs through the cork for more stability and pva everything down for now, then do the tidying up bits.
If he asks what the b on the mug stands for its (root/ginger) beer
Some people are really pulling out the stops with some of these, dantay_xv's space wolf looks mad, I hope it gets a good home.
Perhaps I should put my mind to something, I'll have to find a Marine first... I would do either Blood Angels because I have bits from the Sanguinary Guard that would look smart, or I'd do a really obscure chapter.
I havent seen anyone do Iron Snakes in a long while.
Oh no not the dreaded Rainbow Warriors hehehe!!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: @Howard A Treesong: I looked in your gallery, your fantasy stuff is amazingly well painted. I think if you turned your hand to doing some space marines, (maybe you do, I just havent seen the pictures) they would look really nicely done.
Killamop wrote:Minor update, the boy is almost ready to be painted. just needs to be based now. I need to decide on a colour scheme, help?
It's your choice! I decided to make your boy with a blue color.. may tweak it, but this is your chance to try a paint scheme you've wanted to! Surprise me!
With the Royal Wedding in the background I managed to get plenty done. All very uplifting for our country, but I could hear it all just fine, didn't need to look!
First, for polyd8, your master of the Forge is approaching completion. I have made a Conversion beamer which I think is rather fun.
And for andain, your bolter marine is coming along well. I have a lot of work to do to make him worthy of your Fist marine, but as a start I'm quite happy. The arm with the bolter and the backpack are not yet attached, so I will be able to do a good job on the chest and back.
Poly likes making crazy techy models, thought I'd have a go too. Iron Priests are just plain awesome, full stop. You can't go wrong with them, especially the new plastics kit, such a lovely thunder hammer, haven't had a chance to use it yet
To everyone I am swapping with: fear not! I have not forgotten.
I've had a string of aweful weather (no priming) and a mix of lazyness, business, and forgetfulness preventing me getting work done
BG, I will get you your marine asap, sorry for taking SO long, and thanks for being patient
Chrono, once primed, he will be painted same day Njal, I'll pm you examples of schemes I do so you can pick which you want for your guy
Gits, work begins after their work is done.
To everyone I swap with in the future/ am swapping with now, let me ship first, It'll force me to work faster and harder
They're both great, but given my love of techmarines, it's gotta be the one with the servo-arm. Awesome. Don't worry about taking time with the painting, btw. I'm not exactly a speed daemon in that regard myself.
I'm totally all for the idea of swapping marines, but I would rather build and paint a marine or whatever for someone. Is that what's going on here? I'd feel a bit off, being like, "here's what I have, that I'm willing to ditch off on someone else" Not that there's a problem or anything with that, I just don't see the communal love there. I just feel like I'd rather personally take the time to give someone something they will use and enjoy. I guess, my point is, if I want to do a trade for Guy X and he plays Imp Fists, than I would rather paint and build him a unique imp fist rather than miss out on a trade because all I have painted are Ultras and BAs (examples only) and he only wants Imp Fists. That's just an example and I have a lot of stuff on my plate right now, so this would be down the road, but I'm still totally interested.
Enlighten me. Because I see both things going on and it confuses me However, it should be noted, I am easily confused.
A few people swap already made marines, but this is mostly about pushing your painting skills to new levels on one model which you work extra hard on for someone else. I've learned loads since I started this, and it is great to make a few friends too
Alll those who trade with me get custom models that I make for THEm and paint for THEM... so it pushes both modelling and painting to the max.
BTW all those who I am swapping with... I got my bits today, the highlight of which is a box of grey knoights... the arms will give me th poses I want however much removal of Storm Bolters.... unless people want storm bolter armed models.
I painted a bunch last night. I, for the most part, finished painting the ork boy.
So, here are the pictures... (Choppa is not attached for shipping purposes.)
Here I am holding the choppa on. I made the gore trail from the head by melting some plastic and then painting it.
Here's a closeup of my attempt with elmers glue as a water substitute.. I painted the base green then made layers of glue dry, then did an ink wash on the top with green... not sure that I like it at all..
A view of my try at bricks and the head again...
and a view of the boy'z glare!
What do you think? Suggestions are more than welcome!
Hello, all. i would like to join in on the fun i collect:
plaguemarines (red rings of death)
space marines (cybermarines; open to interpretations on modelling)
orks with looted space marine gear (chapter undecided)
some other things, too.
Your stuff is looking fantastic BishopGore, no doubt about it. I've been a bit busy with school recently so no meaningful updates on the Fist yet. If everything goes according to plan I should have him done, or almost done, by Friday. Since things almost never go according to plan I'm not holding my breath but here's to hoping. In other words, feel free to take your time on that marine.
Hi everyone, I'm alive again!
I had to take a bit of a break from painting 3D stuff for fun to paint 2D stuff for work, but I've finally found an evening of time again to catch up on my swaps.
So, BBL, here's your dude, writing on the seals and all.
Yggdrasil, your Power fistin' Nurgle worshippin' Aspiring Champion is almost done as well (minus basing and gloss varnish to go over the eyes and tentacle stuff).
He has really been a testing bed for all kinds of new stuff I wanted to try out . Weathering powders, oils, liquid watercolours, it's all in there.
Also, I've finally decided on a chapter for my loyal marines: Angels of Redemption. Here's a (very much WiP) of the sergeant who is to lead the squad of deathwatch veterans I'm assembling through this program (needs power sword fx, basing, highlighting on the gun and freehanding on the banner).
Those are awesome TiB! Glad you are still around. Your Blood Angel is ready to be shipped, and I'm gonna give him the once over and make sure everything is tip top before packing him up. Pm me your address and we can finish this old swap
Chrono and Njal, don't fret, your marines' primer is drying next to me, and I will start painting soon. Chrono, its black armor, black robe, green right pad w/ the DA symbol. Anything else to keep in mind before I paint him? Njal, reply to my pm and I can't begin
BG, today is Sunday so he will be shipped Monday, if all goes well
This is a concept model for 1-i. Foot slogging assault marine... It is very rough just now, need to tidy up the axe arm, decorate his shaft choose a head and a few other bits and pieces.
Looking for a bit of feedback on this from folks, especially 1-i as this is for him... if you do not like it let me know and I can take another tack... I am not totally sold on the shield, may swap it out for a round one or just put a bolt pistol in his right hand.
Should I go with a bare shouty head or a wolf shaped helm?
Njal, since I know this scheme, work happened fast (very WIP, needs cleaning up, veteran markings, some weathering, etc)
(also Gits, I was hoping to keep it secret, but I guess this is a preview of the scheme for you )
Chrono, still waiting for you to get back to me, but I did put light green down as a base for the dark green pad
Don't worry, wires on the boots with have the parts that connect painted silver, the sloppy highlighting will be cleaned, and I'll make him suitably veteran (and lenses will be more detailed, little things like that)
1-i I've started on your guy as I had a break in studies today. Since I've done bits and pieces over the past couple days he is up to roughly 80% done. I think it would make the most sense fluff-wise for a veteran-type marine to be sent to another chapter so he'll be getting the white shoulder-pad on the right to denote that (something I just decided to do with my Sons of Medusa, not cannon). In following with that I went through my bits box to find a few things that make him stand out, because he was already assembled and his gear and pose wasn't anything special. Now I think you'll be more pleased. I don't have any WIPs, and I may get done with him before I take any, but suffice to say I think he's turning out pretty good.
I'll be sending the base more-or-less blank, because looking at your bases, they're better. Also, the arms will not be attached to avoid any shipping fiascoes as well.
@Danay, I like what I see. Good battle swing.
I dont dislike the shield but if you feel it doesnt work then by all means do whats right by you with that. My batteries are currently dead in my camera but in the morning Ill get new ones and post up my wip for you.
@cypher, No way anyone can fault you fluff logic, especially since thats probally the theme Ill have to work with.
Njal, he is nearly finished, unless you have something you would like changed
Tell me what you think.
Chrono, Can I do a very dark grey (or a colored) robe, or something? I've hit a real painters block with the black armor and black robe, it just looks so unpainted...
And thank you Cypher, but I wouldn't say I'm great. I'm not too good when it comes to large freehand, but I can make it worth with patience. Its that I've done so many vet markings and things like laurels that it starts coming easier
Those are lookin' fine BBL, really nice. Spiffy in fact... ;-)
Automatically Appended Next Post: My 10-year old just discovered the wonders f the bitz box. So here's the Doom Eagle marine for dantay. Made from scratch out of spare parts. (just like dear-old-dad does it!)
We've both fallen in love with the Chapterhouse pre-heresy heads... just way too cool!
@ Gitsplitta: Hi Gits, Tell Thing 1 that i LOVE the marine that he is building, the pose and stuff is great.
Cant wait to see how he paints it up.
@1-i: Wow the paint job looks stellar, I like the halberd style weapon. I have a few like that in my BloodClaws and could imagine your marine hunting Orca with that!!
The part about not being 100% sold on the shield is that you didnt want a storm shield in the loadout, I am considering learning the joys of plasticard and creating a round shield, which I feel is more in keeping with the Wolves Norse roots/ imagery.
The axehead is a stand-in... again you didnt want a power weapon, but I want to give him something suitably ornate, as he is joining your vanguard... so again maybe some plasticard fun.
I like the pose, but I might drop the axehead slightly to go for a more diagonal sweep than a lateral sweep... not sure if that would look more natural.
Could weapons boffin types chime in here please as I want it to look as realistic as possible.
I might also base him with his right foot slightly raised to make it look more like he is leaning in to the swing.
Its amazing what 24 hours away from a model can do to hepl you critique your own work
Do you want the base painted or unpainted 1-i? Also what army do you game against the most?
Btw does anyone know what is the best type of glue to use with plasticard?
Its great when they can pick things up like that and better if it is something they enjoy. Long may it continue.
Am I right in remembering that you do war/ weapon re-enactements Gits? I think from the discussion in your blog about how to hold a sword, when it came up.
The swing action for 1-i's marine above...... is that how someone would look if they were going for a haymaker of a swing with an axe?
dantay_xv wrote:Btw does anyone know what is the best type of glue to use with plasticard?
I recommend Dichlo or solvent cement (though I use that on ALL plastics!) It looks like water, and you use a brush to paint it on to both surfaces you want to join together. Let it set for a bit and it fuses the plastic together!
@Dantay, yes that axe swing works when a shield is in hand and to counter an overhand swing comeing at you. Feel free to paint the base and I guess the army that I fight the most with marines is probally orcs with Dark eldar a close second.
His right arm is made up of 3 pieces. A standard space marine right arm, the AOBR flamer (couldn't get the hand holding the flamer off) and the spikey bit is from the Carnifex kit, its part of the tail. I used it to cover up some minor cosmetic issues. But it works out for me because I painted it in the scheme of my hive fleet. This marine went bug hunting
Chrono, here is my current WIP I did the freehand by what I thought it looked like... (IE: didn't look up the DA emblem first) so I know it looks bad I'll fix it, but I wanted to see if you want anything else done? (note, hasn't been ink-washed yet) ((Also, I just noticed I forgot the white dot for the lenses))
I (finally) got Gits and T1's marines done!
Gits got a Plasma Cannon for his second Inquisitorial Squad. I tried doing some freehand on the pad that would be Inquisition-y, but I'm kinda meh at freehand, so it came out kinda meh.
But before calling him complete, I wanted to ask what color you'd like the gun to have on it Gits. My normal color for DA is red, but I left the silver on for the Deathwatch. Also thought black might be good, as would gold. So you call Mr. Splitta.
T1's Marine, which is a surprise of sorts for the marine he painted for me WAY back at the start of this endeavor. Hope he likes it!
He has a TON of purity seals, but nothing written of them. This way when he actually does something in game, Gits can make some little scribbles on them to note the occasion. I do similar on my guys, but typically add the seals after the model does something.
Historically I've done mine red... but really with the GMS marines there are no rules. (that's the beauty of it!) I think it would benefit from a spot of color though, so red or gold would be my choice.
I'd also like to see you experiment with some OSL on him. I experimented on yours so it's only fair that you get to experiment on mine in return!
Great stuff WM; I really like the idea of recording the specific in-game actions of note of a certain mini on purity scrolls. That's a nice little touch.
As to your free-hand, that's not too bad at all. Thanks to Gits though I found out about micron pens, and let me just say they make for some easy free-hand applicators. Find them in the right array of colors and you'll be set. For instance: on some of my old models I was either forced to free-hand paint unit-type markings on the right shoulder pad, or leave them blank. After I got the micron pens I gave it a go just drawing them on, and it turned out better than I would have guessed.

Booo, how dear you treat a ultramarine sumble like that.(jokes looks great !)(Is there enouth guns?)
T1's gonna flip over it WM, no worries. I'll show it to him tonight. He wants to play a game tonight of all things! I'm stoked!! So we'll have time to sit down and have some fun!
I may actually play with a bunch of my GMS marines... give my old beakies a break for a change.
You did a real nice job on that marine WM... sorry I didn't mention it earlier... was caught up in looking at the marine you did for me (which is also excellent).
It'll be nice to see squad #2 grow a bit. Heck, if I can trade for two more plasma cannoneers I'll have my own little devastator squad of plasma death! Just have to keep cleaning my slate... vent next... then Yggsie... then BLACKHAND... then graven... then.... etc.. etc...
Hey WM... he loves it! "Cool!" was the quote... which is about as excited as he gets about anything these days.
I have a favor to ask of the blog...
My little one, the 7--year old... has been watching all the fun that his older brother and I have been having with the swap, and he really, REALLY wants to get involved. But he doesn't do marines... he does tyranids. Is there anyone out there who's willing to swap like... a termigant with him? I'll supervise and tweak his painting (want to practice some tyranid painting things myself anyway) so you'll get a decent model in return. He's got his heart set on this, so I hope someone is willing.
Thanks WM, I'll see if he's up to two trades... I think we're out of stealer's on our end. And since he plans on getting a Tervigon at some point, we'll need all the termigants we can get!
We *might* have a stray hormigunt laying around somewhere, but we don't have any others so woudn't be able to use it once you sent it. I could send you a termigaunt along with whatever he paints for you (termi or hormi if I can find one) & you can paint it and send it back?
Thanks Ice! Do you want a nid back? I'm afraid all we have are termigaunts...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Finished up dantay's Doom Eagle. Thing 1 did a great job painting this one all on his own. I came in at the end for the tricky stuff (OSL, eyes, purity seals... some of the edge highlighting ). This was his first try and edge highlighting and while his was a little subtle, he did a great job on it.
Brother Pliskin of the Doom Eagles:
OSL was done with a brush. Tried my best to keep it subtle. There is a glow inside the barrel of the gun too!
Last chance to have us base it dantay... or would you prefer it like this?
Just got NakedBatBoy's Boy Basecoated (try saying that 3 times fast)
I shall begin painting him this afternoon, I'm not sure on a colour scheme, i'm feeling my standard Bad Moonz Yellow. but I sort of want to push myself, any suggestions?
Received graven's Mentul Leejun grot, as expected it looks even better in the flesh, nice job man I plan to do the GS on your's today and start painting this evening. So should be finished before the Olympics start.
Now, having built 2 for graven to choose from, that does leave me with 'Bubbles' GrubSpin homeless. I could keep him for my guys, but he was built with the GMS in mind, so if anyone's interested let me know. Artsoldier and Arakasi are currently next on my list once I've finished what's alreadt on my plate, but I'm guessing they're both still tied up, and we haven't really discussed what we're planning yet (except possibly painboy for Artsoldier), so it's a fair bet that he's up for grabs.
Gits, I think I can probably rustle up a nid or two, no swap required, it won't be fast though Gives me an excuse to work on my colour scheme If it's cool with WM I'll send out with his marines. Which should be some time over the summer...
@Monkeytroll: I'm sure he'd love that MT... whenever you get around to it, no rush.
@dantay: Glad you like it. He did a really good job and was really focused on the painting. I usually have a bit of "clean up" to do to tighten up the paint job... but not this time. The only things I had to do were the advanced techniques.
Now that Platinum Devil 3 is done with - and I have everything I need for Partick Crucible - I *think* I can concentrate on painting again - which means I *should* be able to finally get Gitsplitta's Stormboy Nob finished - he's so close! (I brought him to Platinum Devil 3 - so he is well indoctrinated in Da Dark Angelz Taktiks now!)

I really like the look of your Bad Moonz Yellow guys. So don't feel bad if you go that route. If you wanted to push that, then maybe trysome new style of bad moonz or something that you've considered doing wish your own guys. That, or just choose some random colors. Maybe camo or something? That or some really bright color to make him seem like a real showy chap, with his mowhawk and all that.
Ok, in what must be some kind of record for me I actually got some paint on a 'nid today(Obviously only base colours)
Consider this one a bonus Gits, when I opened my 'nids box the first thing I saw was an old stealer torso and I instantly knew what to do with it. Now I know the base doesn't fit in with #2's, hence the bonus status, but how would you like any gaunts based?
Also, on a purely hypothetical note, if a member had an idea for, oh I don't know, let's say a gaunt taking down, well, for arguments sake let's go with, oh, maybe a mantis warrior, or perhaps a doom eagle, just off the top of my head like, would you have any guidelines on gore content? Completely bloodless, blood dripping from a wound, arterial spray or ripping off a head with attached spinal column? (I think we can safely rule out the last one )
Purely hypothetically you understand
graven - got the ax-spanna gs'd and actually managed to get some colours on to the Tek-Masta
and played around a bit with the poses for the two bloodfists for WM

They're 7 and 10 and have watched more gore on TV and movies that they probably should have. So... blood is fine... actually they'd probably get a real kick out of it as long as it's not too graphic. Feel free to take down a Mantis Warrior.. he'd probably really enjoy that! Mini looks really cool BTW! :-)

Forgot to answer this... Just leave the bases plain MT, we'll fix them up to match the rest of the army.
@monkeytroll: I'm really glad you like the paintjob mate. Can't wait for his counterpart!
@gits: I might I have some genestealer bits leftover from deathwatch project, I'll have a hunt. Loads of cheap, primed tyranid stuff on ebay uk just now.

Tried the Mohawk, it infuriated me. I went with dreads, not sure if I like it yet...we'll see how it's painted.
Sorry if I am going a bit slow, but this was progress from last night, not much done tonight as I am waiting for the 24 hour cure process before i can play with the gs more. Hope you like. This will require a little bit of imagination.
But I present (in pieces) Hrothgar Wyrmsbane.
He gets his name from the huge axe he wields, the blade is made from the claw of a giant daemonic wyrm that he slew... The battle cost him his own cherished weapon, so he took the claw and had the Iron Priests forge it into a mighty axe with which to smite all foes of Russ and the Allfather. The axe is very light considering its size and the claw has never lost its edge, no matte how many wars Hrothgar has fought in.
I did a little repositioning of the legs to really reinforce the view that he is throwing himself bodily into the swing of his axe to kill a mighty foe.... I will go back over the GS and make it tidier.
This is Hrothgars axe haft, this is the first pass with the GS and again a little sanding and neatening up will be done before painting.... the wolf tail will show the swing of the axe, might do more embellishment if my confidence increases.
Rough attempt at wood grain effect, i didnt mix the GS too well in one place but I think it looks okay, will be nice painted up, just a shame most people will not notice it
And the axe head made from Wyrm claw, I accidentally made it huge, still struggling to make stuff to scale, bjut he is a superhuman hero right?? Like the orks say " go big or go home!" I am waiting for the GS to cure, then sand and smooth it, maybe do a little embellishment on the axe head, press moulded wolf head for example.. The shield will get neatened up and sanded too, ready for freehand madness...
Hope you like as it is my first serious attempt at plasticard and trying new things with GS.
Was considering battle damaging him and GS-ing a small cloak, what do folks think?? Again 1-i the fianl decision will be yours.
The only problem I have with you taking your time with this amazing conversion is the feeling that maybe I should have done more for yours. *smiling orc face that I dont know the code for*
Keep up the work man, with the quality of work youve put into this Im ok wainting a year for the finished project.
Don't sweat it. I like all the others you have GMS'd love our marines. Just because you are fast and I am slow doesnt mean 1 is better than the other. I am jealous of the speed with which you work, I wish I was as fast as you.
Besides you made exactly what was asked for, so do not feel that you need to put extra bits on or carve it up. I love the mini you made me as it stands.
Remembe for me it is about pushing past what I already do, so for example I have never made weapons before, so the axe is a first for me. The axe head looks cool, but in a way I see it as a failure because I couldnt replicate it smaller. So there is plenty of scope for me to muck up yet.
So do not stress it and do what you do because we love what you are doing.
My marine from Polyd8 arrived today. It doesn't look like the royal mail treated him very nicely, but I'll fix him up and post some pics after I give him a nice icy base!
Finally 1-i's marine is complete.... just a touch up on th underside of the axe and a little furring of his tattered pelt and woohoo paint time!!
Btw shown a few different heads, peoples opinions please. It helps me with future modelling projects
Also arms shield axe are tacked in place, can rotate the shield a bit more, but worried about his head. Another thing is he is multi pose-able, turn the axe vertically up and lower the shield a bit, turn the head and you got a more defensive but still cool pose.
Re attach the wolf tail to the axe and done
Rant time...... why when you spend your hard earned cash on nice stuff like cameras does your wife always assume it is for her and you want to KEEP the crappy one!!!! Grrr
Next up is Polyd8 and Harms66, then monster of mayhem and wm360... Anybody else up for a trade???
My marine from Polyd8 arrived today. It doesn't look like the royal mail treated him very nicely, but I'll fix him up and post some pics after I give him a nice icy base!
Alright, since its summer (and for some reason no one likes painting in the summer but I love it) I decided to get on the good foot and work on my GMS BAM!!!
Love that axe!
Some painted gms stuff added to my blog (seems a bit cheeky to add it here as well).
In other news, endtransmission's counts-as Straken is primed and washed, ready to get some paint on!
Ok been along while since I posted an update. Here is a pic of the ork I'm doing for prototype_X. Mainly just the foundation colors. Still much to be done. It is going to count as a big shoota.
Got more done. Didnt want to post a new so editing this one. About 90% finished with the painting. Just some more highlights to do. Have to do the backpack and the base is primed but drying so not done yet. I am doing it in My 'Da Brazen Klaw style base. Urban rubble for the most part. So let me know what ya think proto_X. Got some work done on prime12357's komando ork also. Not done in "da Brazen Klaw colors. I'm going for a desert camo fell. I think you will like. Forgot to take pics so I'll post some later.
I'd be up for trading a GK with someone. My only pics of late are WIP pictures... as I'm putting a lot of work in lately. But I'd be willing to take a break to make a special model for someone.
Recent pic
Ok got some more finished. Just backpack and some minor detail work left. But I have it based so proto_X can get a good idea of what he is getting. Then to prime12357's komando ork.
@seanzor, I would love to do a gms with you... look me up in say a few weeks when I get my backlog down and we could set something up..... you want another GK, or do you do SM's?
@bishopgore, how are the wedding plans going? Hope all is going swimmingly and congrats in advance.... Again let me know when you are free'd up and maybe we can do that trade in a wee while.
schank23 wrote:Ok got some more finished. Just backpack and some minor detail work left. But I have it based so proto_X can get a good idea of what he is getting. Then to prime12357's komando ork.
I'm exited! I've just gotten started on yours, it should be done right quick.
1-i I've been away for a bit, but I got your figure. The mail didn't treat him so well, he lost both arms, his backpack, and his base, but luckily all glued back on wonderfully. You'll be happy to know that in his first game he survived even though it was a 3000pt vs 1000pt (me being 1000pts) game. Lucky little guy I have here.
As to the painting the brown and blue and purple clash a little bit when first laid eyes on, but the more I look at him the more I like him. He complements my bright green well too. Thanks for the trade!
Glad to hear that glue saved the day. Amazing that with all the minis I get sent in those envelopes its the one that I send out that gets busted.
It is amazing that the color scheme does seem to work, and your green guy helps me keep tabs on that unit and remember that they are not meat grinder material.
hahahah i KNOW! I'm sorry hahaahhaha! I've been a wreck at doing these things of late. It is all packaged up on my table with the stamp and everything!
Najl, your guy is ready to be shipped. I forgot to ask for your addy when I posted him up. Looking forward to seeing my guy finished
Chrono, I have finished! (finally )
After looking back at my awful freehand attempt, I remembered how bad I was at wings, so I pondered, "what could I use as a DA emblem?"
Suddenly, it hit me. Why don't I use an actual DA emblem instead? If you don't like it, let me know
Sorry Gits....I tried to get your guy into presentable shape, but he only has the base colors (light silver and red) down, and everything else is black, so I figured you could wait till tomorrow
Don't worry, I think he is one of the most badass-posed SW I have made, so he should we worthy of a Mantis Warrior
Hey BBL got an update, touched up the marine as if he's good to you he's done enough for me, left the purity seals for you blank to do with what you want with them, here's some Pics,
Also: to everyone else i am willing to paint up some marines im showing, the librarian if you got a good offer, and they can be any chapter you want and i can probably get it done from you and get it done soon, please let me know, eager to please if you want to trade (pics below)
Sageheart wrote:hahahah i KNOW! I'm sorry hahaahhaha! I've been a wreck at doing these things of late. It is all packaged up on my table with the stamp and everything!
I swear you'll get it very soon!
No worries and No rush, I just want to know if the guy I sent got there. My wife should have mailed it weeks ago but it sat in her car till I found it.
Nice job Lucifer! You're painting has continued to get better and better. Keep it up! You should upload pictures from all of your swaps up onto dakka so we can see all the models you've created for this.
Alfndrate wrote:Alright, since its summer (and for some reason no one likes painting in the summer but I love it) I decided to get on the good foot and work on my GMS BAM!!!
Nice! i like the way that if i paint my sw this way, I won't have to repaint all of my tanks Can you please tell me what colors you're using?
also, the one i'm giving you is going to be a doom legion guy. would you need a multi-melta, or a flamer barrel?
I went and did a 1:1 ratio of Vallejo Wolf Grey and Vallejo Ultramarine Blue, washed the armor with badab black. Went over it again with a light drybrush of the same paint mix.
Chainmail is on all of the metal parts (tops of the tails, the sword, bolter, etc..) with a devlan mud wash on many of the chainmail pieces to dirty them up.
Eyes were blood red
Red on the weapons and the belt buckle were blood red with Reaper Deadrose Red
Parchment on the chest was Reaper Linen White with Sepia Wash.
I did, that picture is far from complete. I added a thin black line on the under part of the eye, touched up the gold, and used a drybrush of like Reaper Concrete Grey over the fur, and added gold to LOTS of the armor trim... this marine is got some bling bling going on . I've got to get some WIP shots this weekend.
I'd be up for someone trading me a BA Vet Sergeant and i will make them a marine of their choice! Please drop a PM and check out my current WIP Blog for my Blood Angels
Here's my feeble attempt at OSL on Gits Plasmacannon dude. I'm happy enough with the OSL on the gun, unsure on the look on the torso and hood. Glad Gits made me do it, but dont think it'll be getting into my army at this point. Maybe if more people make me do the OSL.
Looks just fine WM. Baby steps... It's one of the harder painting concepts that I've worked on... just keep experimenting with it. Lord knows I have a long way to go yet.

First off, very cool chronological order pics! It is neat to see the improvement. I may be up for another swap down the road. I want to make sure I have a good amount of time to send you one better then before as well, so i'll keep you posted BBL!
Everyone who I've swapped with, could you pm me the name of the marine(s)?
I want to finish the fluff I started, and then add it to that GMS fluff mega-thread.
Speaking of which, can someone link that for me?
Hey WM!!! Got your marines today. Man your painting has really improved over the last several months! Wow.
Thing 1's plasma trooper is in perfect condition. Plasma cannoneer took some damage but nothing I can't easily fix. Expect a shot of both when properly flocked. Please let me know when your package arrives.
So, with this thread being one of the ones that caught my attention (and yes, I'm awful for not posting my own blog up yet) I figured I may as well leap headlong into this with gleeful abandon, having some spare Marines and Chaos Marines.
First of all, a sample and indeed the colour scheme of my own two forces - My Imperial Paladins Space Marines (who use older and more antiquated bits of kit - hence some Chaos arms, older bolter patterns etc.) and my Extinction Angels Chaos Space Marines.
My Imperial Paladins. I'd be looking to recruit more for these chaps or perhaps even go the route of a Deathwatch kill team assigned to their crusade from other chapters.
My Extinction Angels - or a close up. Sorry it's not a terribly clear photo. I'd be fine either with Extinction Angels or possibly even Chaos Marines from other traitor/loyallist Chapters/Legions to start forming up my 10th Company (which is a mercenary company consisting of Marines from different warbands etc who are not Extinction Angels.)
I will say the work coming in this thread is quite something and I look forward to working with you fine folks soon.

Darkstarsabre those are cool looking marines, both chaos and loyal. I love the name, "extinction angels". I may use that, if that's okay with you?
Well niallkissick i got a small and very much WIP view of your marine, i just started the base coating but just wanted to give you the general idea of the model, if you want more angles let me know!
IceAngel wrote:

You certainly can.
What's better is that they're both 'official' Chapters. They just don't really appear anywhere. I think the Paladins have appeared in maybe 6 places and the Extinction Angels in only 2.
Hey everybody, been awhile since i last posted, Im looking to paint something for someone, Im looking for a plastic Grey Knight painted with bleached bone and highlighted with skull white. I have a GREAT deal of Chaos SM to trade. Marines, bezerkers, possesed, and others. Shoot me a PM if your interested.
Hey Njal! I have an update for you! taking a break whilst the washes dry!!! Hope you like! After i get this one finished up i'd be up for trading with any one else!!!
I think that this thread/idea is awesome.
So I'll post here. Does anyone want to trade?
I've been working on a rogue trader's entourage. Here are some examples of the models in the force. The minis come from all over and are mostly converted.
I have old rt beakies and other assorted things to paint up in trade.
I didnt have any, but could make some up if you'd like. Did the big purity seal break off of the Tac Marines backpack? You may want to use a micro pen to give the Plasma Cannon dude a pupil, I wasn't brave enough to try with a brush. Which reminds me, do you have a link to the type of pens you use? I'm sure its on your thread, but dont want to dig thorough the 153 pages.
i got progress updates for darkstarsabre andniallkissick!
I been hard at work with that blood angels sergeant (pictures on me pm blog if you want to look at more than the front!)
and star dark i got you guy based and assembled and will be primed later tonight
To everyone else i still got more working room so let me know if you want to swap!
Wow, there's some very nice mini's flying around at the moment
Not had a lot of hobby time recently, which puts a huge dent in my already sloth-like pace, but here's a little something..
Gits/Thing#2 :
Marine and gaunt in basic poses.
And roughly in their 'we want to be together' pose. Was happier with the marine's kneeling leg before I put the 2 guys together, I was going for a 'losing balance but not quite down' look, but it just looks awkward with the gaunt on top of him. I could put something under the knee, but I'll try straightening the right arm first, try and make it look like he's putting the hand out to stop himself going over.
I'm going to have a go at painting him as a Tranquility sniper, was thinking of having a 'sniper' bolter with the barrel cut off by the 'nid, but can't see where you'd be able to put it on the base and look right.
graven :
Got some colour down on da Tek-Masta, needs a bit more, then some tidying then some weathering. Still thinking about the weathering, may go back to hand-painting all the chips on small bits like the legs and armour.
And there's some bubonic brown gone on most of two BloodFists for WM.

Excellent job on the grot mek!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here are the bits I've selected for vent's marine. This will be another vanguard prototype for my army. (I love that the GMS allows me to test out all these theories without committing to anything sight-unseen for my army.)
Don't forget...if you have a marine that wants a backstory and play a part in an epic struggle for survival, check out the Great Marine Swap Fiction Thread where I will chronicle the exploits of your marines within the annals of this work!
Great stuff as always, indeed. I'm doing a DW Weeping Angel for gits btw, Br Draven, love to see him get stuck in! Knightley and myself are also talking GKs just now, I'll let you know how that turns out...
WIP for Njal there. Nice WIP on yours too. This is of course about a third through on the blue. Have to do a fine highlight of Mordian Blue, wash with ink and highlight again.
