Yes, but the point is, you asked after already receiving this email answer about basing:
Tactical Marines, Assault Troops, Necron Warriors, and Necron Lords are still supplied on both base types. The specific ruling regarding Terminators is a historical reference. A significant grace period (years) was allotted to players to update their collections. We anticipate taking a similar stance with these models once they reach a point at which they are exclusively supplied on 32mm bases.
It would've been totally fine to say the wording wasn't clear in the policy that models will be allowed to remain on 25mm bases, as you already know they will be. But to ask this as you did (copied below) was disingenuous, because you already received the exact answer!

The email I received stated the following:
We anticipate taking a similar stance with these models once they reach a point at which they are exclusively supplied on 32mm bases.
This is by no means a statement of what the actual model policy was going to reflect when published. At the time no policy was made for 2015 and when it was published it was a reprint of 2014 which doesn't reflect the conversation I had via email. For clarity I asked it openly on the forum so that should it become an issue, I had a publicly available source in which to site. Email communications, as you probably know, can be easily altered.
Yes they can be, particularly as you did so just now by selectively quoting! The full email is visible in my post, which you also quoted, and mentions a grace period of years after those models are changed over to exclusively 32mm, none of which have been yet...

You are incorrect. All of the Blood Angels range, minus SC, are being supplied exclusively with 32mm bases. There is existing old stock available from retailers and distributors on 25mm, but from GW they are only supplied on 32mm.
From the email, they are considering all Tactical Marines and Assault Troops to be treated the same regarding basing.
That's a discussion worth having, I think, and I like treating them that way - i.e. not considering any forced change until years have passed after ALL marines have been changed over to the new bases, as it seems AdeptiCon is doing.
And to think in 2012 I would have killed to be allowed to use 32mm bases for our team's truescale marines!

I specifically referenced Blood Angels:
So then will all Blood Angel Tactical Marines, assault troops, and the New Necron Warriors and Lords be required to be rebased? Also, just for clarity the entire model policy for 2015 is not available on the Adepticon website.
Sent from my iPad
Just for clarity I wholly support your modeling policy, I just think a small caveat needs to be added considering there has been discussion in threads here and on some podcasts suggesting that tournaments like Adepticon are going to force players to make the change.

I know I shouldn't engage but I just can't help myself....
Blood Angel's Devastators are on 32mm bases? What about their Sternguard or Vanguard? What about their Command Squads? What about their Assault Squads? Scouts?
The majority of the BA range is the SM range and it's still....wait for it.....being supplied on 25mm bases.
All they are saying is don't make intentionally inflammatory statements that could start a panic when you've been told how things are going to work.

Right that is the Space Marine range as you said, I mentioned the a blood Angels range. As in death guard, sanguinary guard, Bllod angels Tactical Marines. Now this does not have as much of an effect on the BA players, as they do have access to a lot of units that won't need rebasing. But if you look at my original question I was asking about the potential Necrons release which looks to be moving to the 32mm base as well and possibly getting a new warriors box. I have a vested interest in knowing if my Necron warriors will have to be rebased since that is the faction I play and it would have the biggest impact on my army.
The Malifaux events have grown substantially over the past few years and AdeptiCon 2015 is no exception!
Below you will find all the information any good necrcopunk, hybrid, gunslinger or politico will need to navigate their way through the brutal and dangerous world of Malifaux! Please make sure to review the rules for all events you are participating in at AdeptiCon 2015. No fundamental rules changes will be made after 2/1/2015.
There are still a handful of tickets left for these events as well as a couple of Malifaux Track passes which allow you to register for several events at once. Don’t delay! Glory awaits through the Breach!
I was just looking at some of the smaller events, as I don't have anything scheduled for Thursday or Sunday yet, and just found there's quite a few that start later in the day on Thursday . This is perfect for me since right now I'm not planning to arrive until Thursday morning (although I have a separate backup hotel reservation for Wednesday night just in case, since unfortunately the main hotel was sold out by the time I thought to do so).
I sent an email on the 4th asking about my championship ticket. Work has changed my schedule and I can no longer make it for the champions. I know I missed the 1/1/15 deadline for refunds but is there anything we can do since this issue is out of my hands... Stupid work! I have not heard anything back as of yet.
Maybe an option to sell the ticket to someone on the waiting list or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We're working on the FAQ for the ETC this year, and wanted to know if you'd mind if we borrowed your diagrams for serpent shields and imperial knight facings. I'll try to find an email for you guys as well, but wanted to ask first.

Last year there was shuttle service to and from Lombard from the Airports. I don't see that mentioned on the 2015 website. Is there no shuttle service this year?
@djdarknoise - The Westin had arrangements and special rates with car services for airport transportation. The Renaissance has similar arrangements. We will get those posted to the website. None of the hotels have a shuttle to either O'Hare or Midway. The hotel shuttles are limited to within a few minutes of the venue for transportation.
@koppo - Still in process and will be going up before of 2/1 cut-ff date.

AdeptiCon 2015 Sci-fi Model: Kolonel Elisabeth Dietrich
As a scion of one of Tannenberg’s ancient noble lines, Elisabeth Dietrich was born into a world of duty and honour. Tradition demanded the young Elisabeth serve in the officer cadre of the Tannenberg military, a duty she readily accepted. A year after her commissioning in Tannenberg Fusilier Regiment No 877, the empire’s northern borders were attacked by an unholy alliance of alien sub-empires, and while the invasion was cast back, it was at a terrible price. Elisabeth’s homeworld was devastated, its holdings all but destroyed and its peoples scattered across the stars.
Orphaned, Elisabeth Dietrich denounced her obsolete noble title and determined that she would serve her empire and the memory of her people by service in Tannenberg’s armies until such time as her world could be rebuilt. An inspirational leader whose authority is derived not from title but genuine ability, she is possessed of a cunning strategic mind and fearsomely skilled with the blade. She has fought across her empire’s frontiers and beyond them, against every enemy of the Tannenberg empire, ever determined to avenge the hurt done to her people and to ensure Tannenberg retains its position of power amongst the ever-warring stellar empires of the Orion-Cygnus arm.
Full Swag Bag recipients will receive the AdeptiCon 2015 Exclusive Limited Edition Kolonel Elisabeth Dietrich model from Victoria Miniatures. A limited edition resin version of this model is available for purchase in the AdeptiCon Store.

Had a question about WYSIWYG at this con, specifically 40K. Of have Grey Hunters, they are assumed to have bolt pistols and bolters, but not chainswords, thus I need chainswords. But I don't have a lot of models and like to run them as Blood Claws, so I'm thinking of having them all sport chainswords in one hand, and bolt pistols in the other, since they will all have both regardless of whether they are GH or BC. Obviously I understand I have to attach an upgrade, should a model have one, but what about the GH's bolters? Do I have to have then appear, or is a chainsword and bolt pistol sufficient? Second question: what if I run GH and BC in the same list? Are my models acceptable, as long as there is a list consistency to differentiate GH from BC?

Second question: what if I run GH and BC in the same list? Are my models acceptable, as long as there is a list consistency to differentiate GH from BC?
Thank you in advance.
I am not an official representative (keep that in mind), but here is the posted WYSIWYG policy:
Units must always be represented by appropriate models. This is the single, most important rule. The 'What You See Is What You Get' (WYSIWYG) rule is in effect for all tournaments. That means all units MUST be easily identifiable as the particular choice they represent and that any and all weapons/options taken for a unit MUST be clearly represented on the model(s). Models not appropriately represented will be removed from the game.
By that, you really should have Bolters on your Grey Hunters.
However, more importantly WYSIWYG is about your opponents not being confused, ever. There are players (like Hulksmash, for example), that use completely counts-as armies, and never have any issues, because all his units are distinctly modeled/armed and he will go out of his way to explain what stuff is as many times as necessary to make sure his opponents know what is what.
The fact that you talk about using the same models between your Grey Hunter and Blood Claw units makes it sounds like it is going to be very difficult to tell one unit apart from the other. So what is the consistency going to be that is going to help your opponent tell them apart? Just a little mark on their shoulderpads or bases or something? Because there are Blood Claw models and there are Grey Hunter models, and because of that, people have an expectation of what they each look like.
So if your Blood Claws are really just Grey Hunters, then you're going to need something extremely eye-catching to make it clear to your opponent that they aren't Grey Hunters, especially if you're considering trying to not have your Grey Hunters modeled with Bolters.
In the end, lay your army out on a table, step back and pretend you are somebody playing against it. Is every unit 100% clear what it is just by looking at from a distance, or at least if your opponent gave you a heads-up once before the game? If not, if its a situation where halfway through the game your opponent might get confused and think your Grey Hunters were your Bloodclaws (or vice-versa), then it is a problem.
Thank you for the example. I have thought of putting myself in the shoes of my opponent(s). Unfortunately, I am a big supporter of proxies, probably mostly due to the fact that I don't have models or money growing on trees. That being said, I completely understand why cons like Adepticon harbor WYSIWYG rules. Cons have an end, and having clear cut rules to save time arguing is paramount. So I get it. So, I'm just trying to find out if there is a cost effective way to run a model as more than one model/unit type.
I'll ask everyone's suggestion then: If I make a Blood Claw model with a chainsword and bolt pistol, but attach a bolter when used as a grey hunter, either to their side, leg(s), or back, would that be an acceptable differentiation as to what a Grey Hunter and Blood Claw is? To my opponent: "Any troop models that have a chainsword are Blood Claws unless they have bolters, Blood Claws do not have bolters."
Also, just to clarify, safe to say based on that rule, even if a bolter is standard for a GH, and even if I have NO BC on the field, if the bolter is not physically attached to the model, it doesn't have a bolter. Does that sound correct for Adepticon?
I think that weapons are really important to have right, so Grey Hunters should not have chainswords... You can also email AdeptiCon to ask, but every conversion and counts-as I've done have had the right weapons. Otherwise it doesn't meet WYSIWYG, since weapons are one of the most critical parts of that.
The problem with Grey Hunters is that they have the option for an additional CCW. So the pistol doesn't need to be modeled (because that's standard gear on every marine) but the bolter is the difference between a BC and a GH and since the chainsword is an optional upgrade unless you have paid the points for the extra CCW it shouldn't have them. That said if none of your GH has additional CCW's per your list and all of them are modeled with bolters I wouldn't care about the chainswords. Honestly it depends on the list.
In that case, you should be fine, as they'd be armed correctly! Ideally you'd have them painted slightly differently too, but if they've got bolters and the BCs don't, you're satisfying WYSIWYG.

AdeptiCon is truly a year-long project. AdeptiCon’s staff and volunteers undertake significant terrain projects each year in order to maintain existing sets and introduce new ones. It is no small endeavor to plan, build, paint, and store terrain pieces for over 300 tables, but it is part of what makes AdeptiCon one of the best conventions in the world. In short, it is worth it.
AdeptiCon 2015 is no different. Terrain projects for this year’s convention span dozens of events and game systems, from Warhammer 40K and WFB tournaments, to Horus Heresy themed tables, SAGA, Bolt Action, Firestorm Armada, Dropzone Commander, Flames of War, Infinity, Malifaux and many, many more !
So time for a quick terrain update:
Ken from Badger Airbrush is a long-time partner and major sponsor of AdeptiCon and has been for many years. A true leader in the airbrush industry, Ken and Badger offer some amazing products and are known for putting together some great deal packages for AdeptiCon attendees. He is a local Chicago guy who runs a family business, employees our neighbors, and offers a product still made in the USA! Having someone just down the road from you when you have a question, need a part, or just want to grab a Gene and Jude’s hot dog is invaluable!
The last few years has seen the airbrush become one of the main tools in any hobbyist’s arsenal. And Badger has developed a range of products that make using the airbrush even easier, including their range of Minitaire paints and Stynylrez primers. Hopefully everyone got a chance to try out the sample Badger dropped in last year’s swag bag. These paint and primer lines are particularly helpful when you have several hundred square feet of terrain to paint and 64+ Deadzone buildings to prime!
Did you know those Minitaire and Stynlrez products come in quart and gallon sizes? No? Well now you do.
But enough of my rambling - what have we been working on?
By now everyone should know that we got a massive amount of Deadzone sprues this year to work on and with the help of Mel Bose at the Terrain Tutor we have a game plan for getting all of these Mantic Mantic Games Deadzone buildings on the table. It almost goes without saying that you get a major amount of terrain out of just one Battlezone box, but you get a truly astonishing amount out of 1,100+ sprues!
We also have some Chemical Tank designs from Alex Landing of Ironheart Artizans ! You have to heck these things out. Based on our “crazy, over-the-top” AdeptiCon Titancius tanks from last year, these kits are brought down to scale for the average gaming table and provide a great centerpiece to battle over.
And just wait till you see these Necropolis terrain pieces that the Brush for Hire guys have provided us. These are going to be a welcome addition to our Necron themed tables for eons to come.
Finally, Flying Tricycle, who has contributed some of the first and longest-used AdeptiCon laser terrain kits has produced some flexible Wrecked Hulk designs that we are putting to good use. Look for these to show up on a terrain table near you!
I love these, they all look like they would make great additions to any table - as well as those new FAT mats I'm looking forward to seeing in action at LVO this weekend.
Not to be overly lazy, but perhaps some links for the gentleman/group's stores so folks can place some orders? Assuming they have them Didn't want to place up links and such in your thread on you guys.
@Greydragon: Added. Although, folks might have to contact them directly, as some of these kits where made at our request and may not be in the vendors catalog as of yet.
Something else to note that most these guys will be vendors at the show, and for attendees it would be a good time to pick up some kits. : )
Those are some massive containers of paint and huge BLOS terrain pieces! Very cool . We've seen a similar movement locally (on a much smaller scale of course) as people get terrain suitable for Infinity. Are any of these pieces likely to be used on the Infinity tables, or will we see some of those?

Incredible work!!
Yes, terrain placement just got real with all that blos.
Now some of us are still waiting on a necron faq... is it coming soon?

Some very nice terrain options there. Is the plasticard sandwiched inbetween levels of the battlezone mantic kits for added durability? Obviously that would affect the ability to change the terrain at a latter date via the clips if glued like that but I'd guess it would make them tougher and more likely to survive handling by the unwashed masses.
@warboss - We glued all the Mantic buildings so they are fixed. Just was going to work out better for our long term terrain needs, durability and repair.
What you see in the photo is two sizes of plastic rod that we have on some of the vertical or horizontal panel seams just to break it up.
Also, to be clear this is just updates to some of our table sets. Our terrain guys try to address some every year but it is a long never ending process.

The FAQ update (with the new Necron codex stuff) is now up on the Adepticon site. Make sure you clear your download cache (usually shift+click or alt+click depending on the browser type) if you're still seeing the old document when you click on the link.
Does anyone know if legacies of glory are allowed in the 40k tournaments? I see a rule clarification in the TT about them(that makes them allowed), so I figure that they are in the classic, highlander, and champs?

I see it but the void shield ruling is vague enough to stop Gauss from even hurting void shields. Meaning my entire army could be stopped by void shields as I run a gauss overload list.

I know it sucks for you in that case, but yes, that would be the ruling as it currently stands. Until GW specifies otherwise Void Shields/Power Fields say they are hit 'instead' of the vehicle and therefore it seems as though things that affect vehicle armor penetration rolls would not apply when rolling penetration against them.
I'm actually curious on the ruling of the Decurion and whether it's going to be allowed in all it's glory. Meaning you could take a Reclamation Legion and 2 of the Same formation as it is allowed in the Decurion.

If you were gonna go this route RAW melta don't work on buildings either since they are for armor penetration but only against vehicles.

Asked for clarification and got it:
Brett,
That is covered in the new FAQ document:
Abilities that specify they affect a vehicle/building, such as Tank Hunters, Graviton, etc, have no effect when rolling armor penetration against a Power Field/Void Shield.
Hank
So my necron list just got nullified by a fortification 3 weeks out... tough pill to swallow. Will have to rethink my list or run another one of my armies.
Hulksmash wrote:If you were gonna go this route RAW melta don't work on buildings either since they are for armor penetration but only against vehicles.
Except that the building rules specifically say: "When determining if a building can be targeted by a shooting attack or psychic power, charged and fought in close combat, or affected by a special rule, treat the building as a vehicle unless specifically stated otherwise."
Or did you already spot this and that's why you're saying to ignore you for being dumb?
Tomb King wrote:So my necron list just got nullified by a fortification 3 weeks out... tough pill to swallow. Will have to rethink my list or run another one of my armies.
It does totally suck, but anytime you make an army that spams one particular special rule/ability you run that risk.
I'm sure you totally disagree with the ruling, but its not like the ruling that was made is completely outside of the rules or something. The truth is, if you say that fields/shields are treated like a vehicle, then you get a bunch of issues that aren't answered by the rules, like what do Graviton weapons do when you roll a '6' against a field/shield? Sure you can then go beyond and start FAQ'ing further to say these types of abilities (that cause auto-pens/glances) instead take down a field/shield, but in that case we would most certainly be adding additional house rules to have to cover a ruling that could be made either way.
Because I'd put the odds on how GW would rule on this at about 50/50, if they ever did so. They've shown a propensity in the past to not care if their rules totally lock out certain weapon types from hurting certain targets. Hell, if you think about it, the *entire* vehicle AV rules are a system designed to lock out low strength weapons. So I could totally see GW coming out with a FAQ ruling exactly as we have, or I could also see them going the other way, which would then likely require FAQing each individual special ability that might affect fields/shields in a strange way.
So if you think about it, your situation is analogous to taking an army that doesn't contain any S8+ weapons and running into a Land Raider spam enemy, except that of course it is a lot easier to have a Void Field Generator than it is an army full of Land Raiders.

This will vary by event.
For the championships it is considered a single detachment consisting of multiple formations. Each formation remains unique within the Decurion.
This means you may take a Decurion but may only include one of each "add on" option.

Not playing Necrons but isn't this a little over the top? The detachment itself is unique, why does each thing in it need to be unique?

Every other formation in the championships is considered unique. This keeps things straight forward. If a player decides they would like to include multiple units that would be limited in a Decurion they may always choose to instead utilize a CAD, allied detachment and/or supplement with specific formations.
Legendary game designer and author, Andy Chambers, speaks with Adam “Loopy” Fasoldt in this week’s episode of AdeptiCon Talks. They cover a little about his storied past (Battlefleet Gothic), but A LOT about some upcoming projects, including his new spaceship combat game for Hawk Wargames. Andy discusses some design theory and what we might expect from this new game set in the Dropzone Commander universe. Andy also talks a little about his work with Warlord Games, a little teaser with regard to All Quiet on the Martian Front and, finally, what he has planned for AdeptiCon weekend!

Listened through and the "Dropfleet" info is from 7:30 - 15:00. Well worth it! I just wish I was the kind of person who could figure out what a game would be like from talking about the mechanics, but it certainly sounds like he's going for it and making a unique new game, not a BFG re-make.
Really excited, this is going to be my first event and my first 40k tournament! Probably going to be a lot different than just playing at the FLGS with friends.
Question, for people signed up for the Championship, do we get our tournament Maelstrom deck before the event or should we print out our own version of the cards for play?

Relatively sure entry into the champs provides you with a copy of the deck in your swag bag. I might have already traded mine off for a box of mike and ikes though. It will be a blast and I hope you enjoy it and get to experience all that adepticon has to offer.
I have a couple of quick questions. I looked over the addendum and the championship slates. I didn't see anything prohibiting units with experimental rules. Did I just miss it? Or are they allowed? My first suspicion is, they are not but hey, you never know. ..
The other question is, if I choose a unit from the Dark Harvest list (not the detachment), can I still use the 5th edition rules for that unit? Not including the wargear. I saw the update on that. Just the old USR option, as long as that unit remains unique (0-1)? For example, If pick up a Dark Harvest Overlord, can I purchase Phaeron?

Thanks in advance.
Experimental rules are never 40k Legal, hence the stamp "Experimental Rules; Imperial Sanction not yet granted." You do not have permission to use those rules until they have been vetted
As to your 2nd question;
"Imperial Armour units (Forge World) are allowed in this event and are considered to be part of the relevant Codex or faction, however due to the scarce nature of these units; each unit is considered unique (0-1) and may only be taken
once per player. Imperial Armour weapon/turret options for a codex unit are NOT bound by this 0-1 limitation. In ALL cases, only the most currently published rules for any particular unit will be allowed."
a) the Maynarkh Overlord is not listed on the allowed Necron units spreadsheet.
b) Even as a Forge World unit, and even if it was allowed, it would be considered part of the new Necron codex which does not have current rules for Phaeron. To do so would appear as if you are trying to game the system by including a unit with a rule that no longer exists for personal gain.

Well, that's elementary, my dear Watson. Why else do WBAMN lists exist in the tournament scene? It's not for pageantry, lol!
There is a difference between making a list within the confines of the tournament rules, and outright attempting to circumvent those rules for an advantage.
One makes you a good player. The other makes you the guy trying to embark the relic into a building on a run move during the shooting phase.

Fantastic to hear, can't wait!
Now time to panic and paint models as quickly but cleanly as possible in a week.
Not sure if this is the right place to promote this but….
The club is running a large-scale Mech Attack game at Adepticon on Saturday at 10AM. We got together on Thursday to playtest our scenario for Adepticon. I'm still prepping few models, but here's a good preview of the event . If you like big 28mm scale Mecha, there's still plenty of space and no fee. Sign up day-of (Saturday @ 10AM) or just stop by and say hello!
More Pics and Details here: http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2015/03/mech-attack-adepticon-playtest-report.html
Doesn't the created scarab have to be placed within 6" of the spyder that spawned it? I believe that is part of the language change from the old book to this one.
Yes that is correct, if you read the post which is in pictures he explains exactly how it works. The reason it works is that Spyders can move an then spawn Scarabs.
“We’ve found that 12" away from the centre line works best; this ensures that the armies will start at least 24" apart, which makes first turn charges hard to achieve while still giving you enough space on a typical table to deploy your army”
So they clearly acknowledge that first turn charges are possible, and did not make any effort to prevent them like they did in 6th edition. So what type of ruling could you envision there being on this made at the Adepticon level?
I welcome a scarab farm attempting a first turn charge. It means your list probably isnt that optimized. Ill meet you in the middle with my wraiths for the double fun. ; )

Just to be 100% clear (for me, tweedledumb);
We can purchase alcohol at the bar/hotel staffed locations, but we are not allowed to purchase alcohol offsite and bring it in with us to the gaming area?
The reason I ask is I know a *lot* of the teams in the Team Tournament bring alcohol has part of their gifts to their opponents (including my team; we also give mugs and shot glasses with our logo on them and i know others do as well). Is this not allowed then?

Nobody from Adepticon is going to tell you that it's okay to bring a bottle of whiskey with you.
There was never an issue in Lombard, which is why I was asking. There is waaaay more alcohol when playing that could possibly be purchased from the hotel.
It's extremely time consuming and exhausting to provide coverage (from those participating) during the event. I've got around 500 photos and that is just from the first day. Will take a good week to go through them all. I can give you some deff dread selfies though
The best I've sern is this list of the 32 championship qualifiers.
Lots of the same players on top.
Even with tons of detachments armies on top still the same. Still plenty of 1-2 source lists and a few 3 source lists without any 4-5 sources. Eldar still runs supreme. Necrons finally decided to join the party again as well.

Full results probably won't be out until Sunday night; what I can confirm for now is that Daemons finished in an exact tie for first and second, with Nick Nanavati winning on tiebreakers for the Adepticon three-peat.
I can confirm this because I'm the other Daemon player
Warhammer 40K Championship and Warhammer Fantasy Big Brawl results are up on www.adepticon.org under 2015 Results. More to follow whenever I get a second to breathe.
I played him in an LVO primer, and he ran Blitz Brigade with a Lukky Stikk Warboss, Mad Dokk, 45 Rokkit Boyz, 20 Ard Boys, 20 Slugga Boyz and 5 Acouting Battle Wagons
Not sure if its the same list but that's what he ran against me in an LVO Primer
We never published lists. There is a ton of general convention coverage on our Facebook page and other blogs. Results posted as I get them. We have over 300 events this year.
The three guys that ran the Horus Heresy Events kicked ass. I played in the Horus Heresy: Tactical Strike and the Horus Heresy: 1850 Tournament and had an amazing time. It was the most fun I'd had at any tournament. Laid-back players, engaging mission scenarios, and excellent scenery.
Please give those guys a big pat on the back and then give them more resources to organize and run more stuff at future Adepticons.
I'm at the airport waiting on a delayed flight but had an amazing time at AdeptiCon (my third in the last four years!) debuting the ModCube. The staff were extremely supportive of the vendors, the attendees were almost all up for seeing new products, and my volunteers from the Wardens were incredible! A huge thanks to Gitsplitta, his son, Solar Lion, and Ramos Asura from Dakka for helping out!
I got to see lots of folks I'd met at past AdeptiCons (Hulk, Remedy, yakface, Janthkin, krootman, muhwe, Nicorex, Cyporiean, Polonius, Mannahnin, and the Independent Characters), and meet some new ones (the Myth guys, Todd from TableWar, Reecius, whitedragon, and Target for the first time!), including a rare kronk sighting . There are definitely more but I'm in need of sleeping for like 14 hours! This is my favorite con and it's because of the people as much as anything, so awesome seeing folks I've talked to on here and putting names to faces for those I hadn't met before
I had a great time this year. Kept my schedule light to socialize, shop and play open games here and there. The 40k Friendly looked amazing and people were having a great time...
The 3D Space Hulk game I played in was incredible!

If you go to the Adepticon website, you can find a page for 2015 Adepticon Results. The link should be towards the upper left on the main page. Some tournaments are up, but not all. It's work blocked for me, so I can't give you a link. They generally have everything up in just a few days after the tournament. Last night and today are heavy travel days for most of the organizers.

I know right, that space hulk game was fantastic! They ran a new scenario Friday and then repeated last year's scenario Saturday, so I had gotten to play that same setup last year, as did Mannahnin. It was so well balanced even with 4 players! I saw the Basement of Doom guy who organized it afterwards and he mentioned your marines got wiped out, hope it was in a blaze of glory (although as a tyranids player I approve of this outcome). Last year marines won one game on the final turn, and nids won the other.
Mannahnin (who I roomed with the first day) also did a few of the single day 40k events prior to participating in the team tourney, and seemed to enjoy them. I think it was the Classic and Highlander events. And his team's space dwarf army with the huge mountain was in the armies on display after the team tourney, along with a dozen or so other awesome armies (loved the Harlequin / IG display, and the undead Eldar army who had used Nagash bits with their Wraithknight).
I also managed to get addicted to Boss Monster in the evenings, thanks yak
I had an absolute blast! It was great seeing everyone and as always how can you have a bad weekend when you are rolling dice and drinking beer? Thanks to all of the staff that put on the event! It was an awesome new venue and I am already looking forward to next year.
It was great seeing you as well RiTides! I hope the ModCubes went over well!
Thanks Remedy . They seemed to, we got 400 signups! The best part was seeing guys grab their friends to come check us out after they saw it, we had one guy come back five times!
Big thanks to the staff for moving ours and the neighbouring booth away from facing that sliding wall of doom - that thing was intense
Another cool thing was seeing such big names in the industry - like "Oh, that's just Victoria Lamb walking by, no big deal" (of course, we all geeked out). Somehow, I never got to see Andy Chambers, which was a bummer because I wanted to quiz him about Dropfleet!
I had a fantastic time, played the Championship, did some Zone Mortalis and Combat Patrol, lots of cool people there. And of course, spent way too much money on Forgeworld.

I'm not own to squee over celebrities, but meeting people that create stuff you like is one of the coolest parts of cons. At my first Origins, I got to meet Michale Stackpole, who wrote IMO some of the best Star Wars expanded universe novels.
At adepticon this year, I got to not only meet Victoria and Jake, but watched them play with a complete Mathilda kit. That was pretty cool!

Big thanks to the staff for moving ours and the neighbouring booth away from facing that sliding wall of doom - that thing was intense

Always a pleasure seeing you man! I cant wait to see your product come out on kickstarter!
played 40k Classic, Zone Mortalis and Combat Patrol. Lots of friendly games. Glad I didnt do Champs or TT, and just did smaller games with great people.
The only complaint I had about the Maelstrom missions was that they were just straight Maelstrom. I'd be happier if there were other objectives. I saw a handful of games where the points were very uneven just because, as happens with Maelstrom, one player got easily obtainable objectives, while the other got mostly objectives on the opponents half of the board or something that they could not achieve in a realistic amount of time.
I've come to really enjoy scenarios where there are Tactical cards, but also other ways to get points (outside of the normal Slay the Warlord/First Blood/Linebreaker). Maybe that's just me.
I was the like the 6th picture of the armies you have on your page and all of my necrons are in a big pile of dead things. HAHA! Should of told me and I would of set them up again.
I probably have more photos of them. You are just seeing the "quick army shots". It was nearly impossible to get shots because people would break down the armies the seconds the judges got there. I was running around like a mad man.
I got another few hundred shots of close ups, and people playing that will be up later in the week though!

I know about the site, they just didn't update the finals results. It's okay I will wait, hopefully they rmb!

We will remember, this is a travel and recovery day after 70 hours of work in 5.5 days.
Nick won with his Plague Drone star (there are Battle Reports over in the BR forum with essentially the exact list, it's referred to as "Birds and Bees" over there); I ended up second on tiebreakers with a more traditional Screamerstar/CSM allies build.
I'm somehow completely blanking on third place because of the overwhelming lack of sleep. Fourth place was Aaron Aleong with a Bike/Wolf build.
Top 32 had tons of Eldar, 4 Necrons, an Ork, I think two other Daemons (for a total of four), at least one AdLance, a few Space Marines, etc. I don't personally have specifics on many of those lists (excepting the ones I played against) but there was a lot of "traditional" Eldar--3-5 Wave Serpents, 1-2 Wraithknights, 1-3 Jetbikes, season to taste.
You can view the exact list of qualifiers by going to the Results page mentioned earlier in the thread and filtering to BP--the table on the Adepticon website is interactive and you can filter it. Full results for the Finals won't be up for a few days I'd bet, as most of the organizers don't live in the area and are travelling back home after a long week, and the Team Tournament steals the spotlight over the weekend (as it should).
I had a fantastic time this year. Played all 40k because the End Times just isn't my cup of tea and my fantasy armies are on pause until 9th edition. I played in the 40k champs, Horus Heresy tournament, and the 40k team tournament.
It was an absolute blast. Props to the 40k crew for running great events, and running it on time. I was super happy to take Best Sports in the 40k Champs.
I want to give a shout out to the folks that ran the Horus Heresy event. They did a great job, and had great scenarios and fun awards in addition to the traditional ones at the end. I hope they keep the format again next year because they did a great job.
Also - the judges were awesome. Our 40k team has a goal of making a board good enough to be displayed Saturday night, and I asked for feedback on what we'd need to do better to make that happen and one of them was nice enough to take a pretty decent amount of time to walk me through not just our board this year and what we could improve, but also walk me through one of the boards on display to point out things we could think about doing going forward. It was super appreciated.
I can't wait for next year. You know it's a good tournament when you spend the 7 hours driving home talking about what you want to do next year.
Had a blast and it was a good time seeing everyone I only get to see once to twice a year. Thanks to the organizers for another great year.
Also really liked the new venue gaming area. Didn't almost get my army knocked out of my hands once this weekend which is a 100x improvement over the Lombard.

I think 3rd place was the guy who was friends with Daniel (your 8th round match). I didn't catch his name, but scanning the list I think it was Joonas with Necrons. It probably will be updated at some point.
The meta assement above is pretty spot on. There were also a few lynx, a few super friends style lists and a few centurion stars. I saw a few nid and tau players, but I don't think they made it that far through the rankings.
I did see a lot of Malifaux players, seemed like the turnout was great for it! I didn't see the Infinity players as much, but heard they were there... just that their room was on the other side of the hotel (whereas Malifaux's was on the main hall leading to the large end space where the vendors and 40k events were).
Had a blast as well. Did the Friendly and Team. The friendly was a BLAST. Though being one of the team captains we kept doing captain challenges so the third game became a little fuzzy after my opponent and I drank a whole bottle of 'The Knot Irish whiskey, then broke into some canadian whiskey. So much fun. Thanks to all the Adepticon crew and volunteers.
The guys who run the Friendly--Brian and Jeff--are literally the nicest dudes in the world. It also helps that they're both super creative (their team tournament entry ends up in the army parade every year).
The presiding theory on why the Championships didn't sell out this year (there were five or ten spots left last i heard) is that the Friendly steals more and more players from the other events each year. So "infectious" is definitely the right word. They're probably going to have to up the registration limit for it next year.
I think it sold out nearly instantly, just had some drops the day of.

Has Adepticon published the missions they used for the 40k Champs? I was watching their blog, and under the impression that they were using their custom Maelstrom cards for all missions, but must have missed something.
tag8833 wrote: Has Adepticon published the missions they used for the 40k Champs? I was watching their blog, and under the impression that they were using their custom Maelstrom cards for all missions, but must have missed something.
Missions 1 and 3 were straight Maelstrom. Mission 2 was kill points and 4 was normal objectives.
Missions 2 and 4 each had a player-selected secondary as well. The same four missions were repeated for the finals.
We'll be posting the mission packets for most events later this week.
Missions 1 and 3 were straight Maelstrom, but they did utilize the custom card decks and the discard mechanic, which actually makes for something a bit different that what most people would consider straight Maelstrom.
While there was a minor fall off in Champs attendance, our overall number of people playing 40K was only down 6 players vs. last year (the Classic being the biggest draw from the Championship).
2014 13 people playing Exterminatus
44 playing Combat Patrol
226 in the Championship
16 Horus Heresy Massacre
299 people total playing 40K on Thursday (2014 posted results do include drops)
2015 6 people playing Exterminatus
39 playing Combat Patrol
196 in the Championship
36 in the Classic
16 Horus Heresy Theater of War
293 people total playing 40K on Thursday (2015 posted results do not include drops)
The 40K Team Tournament started off with 3 team less than 2014.
So overall, the 40K attendance was more or less the same, people just diversified into different events on Thursday as they were offered and events on Friday like the Friendly and the Highlander. In fact, the Friday 40K attendance was up by about 35: 184 in 2014 (72 in Friendly, 70 in Two-front Doubles, 16 in Warzone, 10 in Horus Heresy Apoc and 16 in the Champs finals) vs 219 in 2015 (32 in Champ finals, 78 in Friendly, 68 in Highlander, 27 in Horus Heresy Tournament and 14 in Combat RAT Patrol).

This is probably the biggest thing to take away for people who read about Adepticon on forums or blogs and haven't actually been; sometimes the outward view seems to be that it's just the Championships and the Team Tournament and a couple "other" things on Friday, as if those events were just for people who didn't qualify for the Finals.
There's ~10 different 40k events and they're all run by incredible people and have the resources and space to make something awesome out of it. It's hard to even describe the Friendly, but it's the event that seems to impress the most people when they come for the first time--it's also the event I'm most familiar with other than teams/champs because I pitched in to help out with it the prior couple years (and also because it's kinda hard to miss the Friendly when it's in progress, as those guys have a tendency of making themselves known).
It's seriously like a bizarre alternate universe is taking place ten feet away--I was playing games on the top tables at the Finals and after (or during) each round there'd be some absurd new thing happening. After Round 6, I discovered the remnants of a pie-eating contest I didn't even know had been taking place. After Round 7, team captains were reciting their team mottos to the hall for all to hear; during the round itself, some sort of insane parade occurred. Amidst all of it, everyone involved was wearing a boyscout sash and collecting merit badges through some means, and Jason (y'know, hockey mask guy) was destroying 40k units.
I'd be shocked if the Friendly has less than 100 players next year.
It also goes well beyond just 40K. We had large Malifaux, Warmachine, Saga, Warhammer Fantasy and Bolt Action events. X-Wing, Space Hulk, Wild West Exodus, board games, Infinity, Battletech, hobby seminars...the list is around 300 total events in 2015 and is ever-growing. All wargaming is given the opportunity to flourish at AdeptiCon. I'd love to see events like The Friendly continue to grow. The atmosphere and experience it cultivates is truly a unique experience that I think many people crave in a world of rigid tournaments, controlled expectations and sportslike mentality. There is plenty of room for both styles of play, and you realize just how different the same game can be when you are sitting on the "DMZ" line between events.
I saw the X-Wing tables set up near the HH events. There seemed to be a near-constant stream of tournaments/events with about 12-20 players. They all seemed to be having a good time.
There was also a Large Pirate Ship game that was roped off but looked pretty bitchin.
I'll echo what others have said, this location had twice the Elbow Room as last year's.
First year playing WHFB at adepticon this year, I did the Big Brawl, Team Tourney, and Championship and it was all a huge blast. Every single opponent was very chill and laid back, and I met a few super cool dudes I totally want to face again next year.
Congrats to all the winners, and my empathy to all the peeps who had to face the Nagash's, Franz's, and Malekith's. Those b@st@rds were tough nuts to crack.
Great times overall, definitely going back next year.
Does anybody know what Aaron Aelong was running in the 40k champs? He had the thunderwolf/bikes/speeder storm list. Couldn't really find any definitive lists anywhere.
Chance,
At first I thought...oh maybe chance can just look at the photo of his list and get an idea...then I started looking through them...and there are a ton of thunderwolf, landspeeder, bike lists....
Chancetragedy wrote: Does anybody know what Aaron Aelong was running in the 40k champs? He had the thunderwolf/bikes/speeder storm list. Couldn't really find any definitive lists anywhere.
He ran wolf star with dark angels and space marines in support. Basically hit and run 2+ cover save squads with fnp. He also had a couple of units with 2+ armor.
As for the friendly... it looked fun but on the receiving end it was not that fun. I had a headache for most of the day and when they continuously trolled the champs event it actually got kind of old and borderline annoying. I am all about fun as much as the next guy but my rounds had me right next to them as they went on these chants, hooting, and hollering. The event is fun based but please respect that other events are participating still and be mindful that your fun shouldn't be at their expense. Other then that I had fun throughout the weekend and enjoyed the team tournament in particular. The 40k champs kind of sucked me dry with all the various builds. It was interesting to see all the various builds that had a unique way of being unkillable.
It would seem that most of the big hitter lists included a giant deathball of unkillableness, even if its only job was to tie up the opponents... giant deathball of unkillableness. Is this good or bad for the meta?
Requizen wrote: It would seem that most of the big hitter lists included a giant deathball of unkillableness, even if its only job was to tie up the opponents... giant deathball of unkillableness. Is this good or bad for the meta?
This was my first "big" gt/convention, and I gotta say it was a blast. The staff are pros. They ran the events seemlessly, without hitch or hiccup. They even offered to buy me a beer, after my last match ended in with my blood pressure through the roof. Otherwise the attendees were all user friendly. It was great seeing a few cats I know winning the big tourneys. I had hoped to make it to the qualifiers but sadly I was 2 points shy . Guess I'll have to sharpen my presentation a bit better next year
Remember that time when people were worried about summoning armies and everyone dismissed those worries? Then the top two armies at Adepticon were summoning armies? If you got the cash the daemon summoning armies are the best armies to have. They are perfect for maelstrom and they have an easier time getting the 2++ re-rollable thanks to Daemonology.

Neither me or Nick actually do much summoning, and we had a pretty long conversation about how over-hyped it is, and how the over-reliance on summoning is the main reason why Daemons aren't being perceived as being as strong as they really are. The same thing has been happening ever since 7th came out--people who aren't familiar with Daemons pick up the army, think the key is to just summon a bunch of Daemonettes, get tabled by Wave Serpents and then go back to their original army. Virtually none of the top players who tend to shift to the "powerful" armies of the time have actually stuck with Daemons; everybody's still playing Eldar or Knights.
Through my first three games I summoned two units total; I summoned a lot of Heralds in Game 4 (and then Game 8) due to how the secondaries worked. Games 5-7 I think I summoned about five units total. And this was after I invested ~80 points to get a Death of Kasyr Lutien Rhino into my list to have a more viable summoning option; Nick didn't have that and had fewer Warp Charge than me, so I assume he did even less summoning than I did.
The most important thing is having the option to summon, and all the tools that gives to your army. My "army" fits on a 6x10" plastic tray. Meanwhile, I came to the tournament with two fully loaded Battlefoam bags and an extra cardboard box, full of models I never even used. I had 40+ of every Troop option on me and never used any of them (except a handful of Horrors popping out of my Portalglyph).
But if I'd played Green Tide, I would have needed those 40 Daemonettes. If I'd played Knights, I'd have needed those 40 Plaguebearers. If I'd played full Serpent Spam, I'd have needed those 20 Flesh Hounds. If I'd played Guard Blobs, I'd have needed those 12 Flamers. Etc etc etc.
90% of the time my army (and Nick's army as well) is a pretty standard Deathstar build and plays very similarly to a Bikewolf/Wraithstar/etc build; I view summoning as a secondary option to cover gaps against certain matchups. Comparably to those other Deathstars, the price I pay for that option is a reliance on the Psychic phase/Grimoire/Fateweaver to provide my Deathstar's survivability, instead of having it be an innate part of the unit itself.

Respectively... a terrible counter argument considering my initial post. You have the same re-rollable shenanigans with the ability to summon models to counter just about any build. The post was targeting that the army is good at maelstrom and that it was easier to get the 2++ re-rollable with daemonology. Summoning is just icing on the cake for an already good army.

It's definitely just a semantic thing, but I still feel it's an important distinction, because it seems to be where everyone goes wrong with Daemons right now.
Saying "summoning army" seems to indicate that summoning is the primary, intended offensive mechanic of the army--which it's not. Mine is a pretty straight Screamerstar, with the Kasyr Lutien Rhino being my only sacrifice towards a "real" summoning army. "Real" summoning armies don't work, and not just because of Kill Point missions.
I've consistently told people your army has to be able to function with zero summons to be able to work in the current meta, and if it can, it's definitely not a "summoning army". If having the option to summon as necessary makes you a summoning army, every Daemon army would be a summoning army by default.
For instance, when I played Kopach in the 5th round, I didn't roll a single Daemonology power on any of my Heralds--I needed Misfortune to counter his Wraithknights, got rather unlucky rolling powers, and didn't get it until my last roll.
I've also traditionally carried nowhere near this many models with me to tournaments; I went pretty over-the-top since it was Adepticon (and the venue was about five minutes from my house, so there were no travel concerns with having so many models) but I've been doing just fine without them. In most cases I just have a couple units of Daemonetttes and Plaguebearers, ten or so extra Horrors for the Portalglyph, and one unit of everything else.
That said, I can definitely see how the prospect would be overwhelming for anyone trying to jump into the army, cash-wise. I'm lucky to have only ever played Daemons and had a pretty huge backlog of "bad" units built up from the past seven years, so when summoning made some of those bad units relevant, all I had to do was pull them out of storage. I think the only new models I've bought in 7th was some Plague Drones.

Also to add to my last little post... I am not taking anything from either player... IE you an Nick. You all outplayed the field in the set format. In addiiton, I guess rewording the name of the army. Summoning is but one possible way of running the same army list. I guess the proper name would be a warp charge heavy daemon army.
I think Mission 4 was huge though for daemons. I was fine with all of the other missions expect on that mission.
The secondaries could be blown out so much that the objectives didn't matter. When Nick (Yermon) and I played the table behind us had a portal glyph and summon on the opponents side and created something like 15 units. Just heard the opponent stated that the game was dumb.
Overal it was fun but Daemons right now or clearly stronger then every book when you think about the following:
fateweaver gives you 10 to 14 rerolls a game
2++ reroll
Summoning
Resilience of units
ability to deny first blood
Makes it for a real hard game giving the above and so many options that summoning brings.
On a different topic (and maybe this isn't the best place for it)
I really enjoyed the competitive nature of Adepticon. It was a lot different than just meeting up with friends and playing a game during the week, and I'd like to try another tournament or event to sate my competitive nature. But, alas, I don't particularly have the funds to fly out to the West Coast to do all of the events over there.
Are there other Chicagoland or indeed just midwest 40k events? Obviously aren't going to be as big as Adepticon, but something interesting at least would be fun.
Bugeater in Omaha in June (Normally 60+ for 40k) Renegade in Minneapolis in November (Normally) (Normally 70+ for 40k) Michigan GT in Lansing(?) in September (50+ for 40k) And I dont' know if the Indy Open is happening this year or it's date but the Indy Open in Indianapolis. (no idea on size)

GenCon is in Indianapolis. They have nearly every game under the sun, from RPGs, to card games, to board games, and many miniatures games, too. 40k is not a big draw there, but I think there was at least 1 event last year.
It's July 30-Aug 2 this year. It's only a 3 hour drive (or so). This will be my 13th since 2001.

I know about GenCon, I almost went last year but stuff came up. Sad, because I missed Jim Butcher signing things :(
I didn't know they did 40k events, is it just friendly games or is it more of a mini tourney?
I honestly don't know. It was the first time I'd heard of people trying to play 40k at GenCon. It's not really their venue. But, with that many gamers, I can see them pulling off a tournament, even if it's just Kill team.
Edit: I found this thread on Dakka for some of last year's events.
The best thing going for daemons is mucho warp charge and casters that don't worry about periling. A lot of smart Daemon players summons in the beginning to generate even more warp charges.

Maybe not for long...
Last I heard, the Con was going on but when the contract with the state of IN is up, they don't think they'll renew.
Nobody would disagree with that; the missions and scoring system were all great except for that secondary on mission 4/8. It was clearly a mistake.
In my round 4 game I held fewer objectives and still won 22-8. My round 8 game was a bit of a blowout, but it didn't really matter anyhow because I had so many units ready to jump into the backfield by the end.
Curious as to how this placed so well.
Is the general tactic something along the lines of wraith/spyder shame?
Meaning: multiple fast, tough units claiming tactical objectives and creating target priority issues for the opponent, with support from the awesome Zandrek and the Hulk (Orikan)?
Adepticon, per the mission primer, seemed to favor MSU. I don't know that wraiths and spyders count as "shame," but they're definitely handy. I don't know how this list would tackle 3-5 flyrants but it should have been solid at scoring maelstrom points (especially with Zandy to help cycle cards).
List was designed to win maelstrom. Sandy with duble point from objectives in scarabs gives you alot of points. That list also has very good board control which meas that most objectives are available for you. Farseer was mostly for summoning.
Against a flyrant heavy list that list would have just had to endure and score objectives, which i think it can definitely do. But I don't think Joonas had to play against any nids.
Curious as to how this placed so well.

That seems about correct. Nemesor can get some crazy bonuses from either enemy units or the Warlord Trait tables, while Orikan only adds onto the insane durability. I don't even want to know how many Bolter shots it takes to kill a Canoptek Harvest Wraith with Orikan in the squad!

5 Spyders + Canoptek Harvest = Turn 1 charge with Scarabs, with RP 2 Units of Immortals to sit on your objectives
4 Units of Wraiths to reach out and kill/tie up someone
Farseer zipping around the board making a nuisance of himself.
Looks like it coud easily tie up or hold all 6 objectives by turn 2.
RiTides wrote: MSU seemed really good at the LVO, too... a few really strong units with a lot of MSU seems to be pretty prevalent in the top lists from both events.
Yeah, the article talks about that . I'd actually copied the whole thing in here after linking to it, but Chip of ToF asked me to remove that, and I've respected his wishes of course. Definitely worth reading though, hilarious how he changed his mind the morning of and went back to running daemons after bringing all the pod marines all the way to the con
I played pod marines against Nick's daemon list tonight. All those re rollable 2++ and 3++ get really annoying. AP1 means nothing against invuln so my melta was less effective than bolters and grav cannons needed 6 to wound everything worth shooting them at. We played Nova mission 2, I lost 3-2 on primary mission points but 4-0 on secondary. I can definitely see why this list won it all.
Just curious... I ordered the void shield generator that adepticon was offering. I still have yet to receive the model. Anyone else having these issues? They didn't have them at the event thanks to a logistical error. The group running the booth said they would mail them out but gave no time table.

I will follow-up with them and provide an update in this thread. Thank you for letting us know and feel free to send me an email at greg@adepticon.org with any other questions.
Unfortunately Games & Gears has been a bit behind schedule-wise on their other boards and terrain, too... logistics is not their strength :-/ although the products look good to me.

We'll be collecting everyone's mailing address this week and Games & Gears will then be shipping everything out. I don't have an exact date, but it seemed like it would be soon.

Awesome, thank you. If you all could post when they go out that would be great.

Yea I saw the void shield that they had on display at Adepticon and I was pretty impressed. I am eagerly waiting the arrival on mine. Though they will be banned from most events by the time I get it assembled and painted.
Been meaning to get up same game summaries as well (had a few people asking for list details and didn't want anybody thinking I was ignoring them) but got a pretty bad cold after the con; would like to get them typed up sometime this week before I forget everything!
Me either. I was all excited when I read that someone else was making a "void shield generator" but after seeing it, I think I'll keep checking ebay for the GW version.
We have been collecting blog, photo, video and podcast coverage over here. If we have missed anything, feel free to submit a link at the bottom of the page.

Clarification for everyone based on a PM between Slayer-Fan123 and me.
If the lists are released by the general public, then great. However, I know the AdeptiCon staff does not actively collect lists specifically to post. I would not expect anything from our staff on this request. Thanks.
I finally got my game one up. If you are looking for list... I will give you a slight spoiler in that I made the top 32. With that in mind I have copies of the 4 list that i played against on day 2. You will just have to wait to get them.
We've published our first data piece on AdeptiCon, based on the army breakdowns we could gather. Interesting to see the effects of multiple detachments.
