What about the Plague Mortars? Is it possible to confirm as I'm definitely short of 40mm bases, but I'm not sure how many.

I think Ronnie addressed the 'missing dice' in his video a few days ago - I'm pretty sure you'll be getting the missing dice down the road, and possibly something extra too? Maybe?

It's so they fit into the bases - it's not ideal, though, and we're going to stop it happening. Personally, I'd just get a modelling knife, trim them down and texture the base so it's not an issue any more

This is extremely sloppy.

Sorry guys, but as soon as you needed to do this to make the integrated bases work, the integrated bases should have been reevaluated. This would have been avoided by using slot tabs ("slotta" tabs) or by a peg on the bottoms of the feet. I know it's not a quick or easy thing to change (nor cheap, at least in terms of the already existing models) so I appreciate why it hasn't been done. I don't want to seem as though I am being only critical.

Integrated bases are a headache for anyone (Category A) who wants to use: Resin scenic bases, Clear bases, Custom hand-made basing (hand-made Scenic bases, as it were).

Integrated bases are generally favored by people (Category B) who: Want to glue the figures down and paint the base a single color, Folks who are used to basing on washers or the like (generally historicals-heavy gamers).

Slotted-style tabs are easier for everyone because:1. They are easier to remove for the folks from Category A above. Usually accomplished with snips and minimal filing. 2. They are easy to cut down (in half is usually a good match to most integrated bases) for the folks from Category B above. Cutting the tab in half gives a larger surface area for gluing down to washers or MDF disks, and more freedom for customizing the bases thereafter. Again, this is usually accomplished with snips and minimal filing.

Slotted style basing makes it easier to include more basing preferences. That is the best argument against integrated basing that I can think of right now.

Personally, I hate integral bases. They are completely outmoded and in this day and age of custom basing, a giant hassle.

Still no update on my shipping information. I usually don't get into the first few waves for stuff like this so I'm not worried. I've also got 5 warpath enforcers to work on, so I'm hardly out of stuff to do. Especially that I've now determined that Enforcers are the perfect size for magnets

Oh man feth slotted bases. Just give me a couple of feet I can glue down. Having said that, slotted bases are *slightly* easier to work with than the dreaded integrabases.

Why are you going to magnetise them?

Of course then you have to do gap filling around the base, usually beyond that which yoiu have to do with mantics base system. So... yeah I don't like either

I love going to town on scenic bases and I have to say imho, that the Mantic bases are my least favourite of all the basing methods out there.

Personally I hate the plastic their moulded in, it seems pva resistant (All tho that maybe my glue? I use Army painters stuff) I find it really problematic to get a smooth edge where they come off the sprues aswell.

The more I think off it the more im inclined to cut the tabs of all my figures and go for standard slotta bases or go for the 30mm option I mentioned earlier.

Grr Mantic why do you make it so hard for me to love you?

sorry for the rant :(

I do not mind the bases, but getting a smooth edge, as Edlowe points out, is very difficult to do. Am currently painting up my Plague, they are a joy to do but am still finding the odd mould line that I missed in the pre paint clean up. And still trying to find out a way to clean the rebel humans bemould-lined face without ruining the model, curses!

Normally, I'm not bothered by the integral bases. The only time they've annoyed me so far has been with the Corporate Heavy Weapons Teams. I still haven't put them together because I want the crew to be removable and I'm not sure how I'm going to go about doing that and have a scenic base for them as well.

My suggestion would be a base with cutouts for the heavy weapon team.

Oh, God, isn't that the truth!

A Public Safety Announcement for anyone who hasn't received their Deadzone box yet.

This is what it's going to look like if you order lots of battlezones:

then after digging sprues out, at the bottom:

This is 4 Core, 2 Landing Pad, 2 Fortification, and the bonus terrain. 72 sprues, none of them labeled.

There's another 10 sprues still inside the strike zone box.

So it's going to be 7 or 8 square sprues per battle zone, plus one connector sprue. You're going to want to make piles.

That wonderful invoice sheet you're going to get is going to say things like
Core Worlds Battlezone (Scenery 1x4, Scenery 2A x 2, Scenery 2B x2, Connectors x1)
and that's it.

There are two airports relatively close to Essex, they are south end and stansted. Essex is just outside of london. Its likely that there is a sorting office of some kind there.

I'm not James, but I'll take a swing at this one.

It is a failure in the QC process.

Edit: You mean platforms like the ones on the lower left figure here were intentional?

I would have preferred the poor QC excuse as opposed to intentionally poor design.

It comes down to the round integral bases thing - also, I think the assumption is that people are going to texture their bases, as they look a bit odd without texture. It's interesting, actually; the integral bases come from Mantic's background as a supplier of cheap bulk troops. Ronnie's dream has always been big armies that are quick to put together, and the integral base helps with that for low- to mid-level hobbyists. Now we're moving into smaller skirmish game type stuff, and higher quality minis, it might be the time to rethink those bases - it's just something that's so natural to us, I don't think we've thought about it. I'll raise it at a creative design meeting.

A likely story, I reckon you were booted out due to all the packing errors. Apropos of nothing, thanks for the bonus core sprue.

Totally true! We're not getting ours until the rest have shipped. We want to make sure everyone's got everything they need - it would suck if some stock got damaged and we ended up one copy short somehow, and we'd all just finished building ours. We've got a digital rulebook and a faction starter each, and that's it for now!

Yep, it definitely would. But they also have their positives, as I said above. It's a question of weighing up the options and looking at what to do in future. We will discuss this, trust me

Mine was picked up on Dec 3 at about noon, went to Birmingham, then Standstead on the 4th, was in Memphis at 6:30 this morning and arrived at a quarter to 11:00 today.

If FedEx is estimating two day shipping, they mean it. (Assuming you don't hit a storm delay or something.)

Especially if you want to preserve fiddly bits like toes and avoid stressing the plastic, don't forget to soften the plastic with hot water before you cut. I've successfully saved many Veer-myn toes this way.

Someone else on here recommended that first, but I can't remember whom, so all credit where it is due to the previous contributor.

I've had luck using sprue clipper to clip the majority off of the base; after that it's simple to chop the remaining bits off the bottom of the feet with an Xacto (especially the new Z series with the coated blades). Didn't think to soften 'em up with hot water though, thanks for the tips dudes!

I'd be fine with seeing the integrals go. Too restrictive (really dislike the platform boots stuff, why not just have one foot on the disc and one foot off?), a peg like the dreamforge minis would be great. Or no peg at all, it depends if the mini needs it or not. In hard plastic even really tiny contact points (tips of Zz'or talons) can work just fine because the glue bonds so well and doesn't break.

I think the original idea was that you could put it together without glue and all that 2-piece minis stuff. Not really the case with deadzone or warpath. You need glue, you need files, you need hot water.

There are a few things I'd like from Mantic bases in general:

- Hollow (so we can glue a magnet underneath easy).
- Clear plastic option (maybe get Renedra to run their round base sprues in clear polystyrene?).

It's definitely a weakness in the minis, dreadball bases were a very cool idea, but the integrals do kinda spoil them to the point where a lot of people just paint the whole thing black which is a shame.

KoW bases are fine with the integrals although a hollow would have been nice.

I did seem someone carve off the integrals on their DB team, flip the hex bases upside down and glue them to the underside. That looked pretty neat.

I would also vote for integral bases to be scrapped for warpath but kept for KOW.

Some of the models (Mostly the bigger ones) don't have integrals themselves, that will always be a better option than the platform shoes. I doubt there are many people who are not going to cut them off so in this case the integrals are making it much harder to put together the model to a decent standard rather than much easier.

Bases - TBH I quite like the integrated bases, but not sufficiently so that changing them would be upsetting. I don't know what others experience of restic is but I'm not even convinced restic models need anything to connect the to the base beyond the glue, same for hard plastic (GW dropped tabs on hard plastic ages ago, I've not had a problem). Metal models however I prefer the larger contact point and stability I feel I get from an integrated base.

Deadzone base sizes - just got a reply from Stewart through Kickstarter and he said both Rebs and Plague weapon teams official basing is 25mm individually. I might base them as a single 40mm model anyway, I'll just have to pay for the bases (or not if I rummage deeply in my bits box).

That might be a good shout for the Plague Mortar to put the crew either side of it, I'll play with that I think for the Rebs I'm feeling 40mm more as a gut reaction.

Well do you want bare restic? I can do that, but virtually snowed in with the baby today so the only chance I'll get to paint is during her limited nap periods. I need to get a high table and a barstool set up so I can hobby out of reach of tiny grasping fingers...

Sweet, I checked about an hour ago and still initiated. After seeing your post I checked again so I could post a "Sad Panda" comment, but mine is picked up for delivery on Monday as well.

Received my MM black Friday stuff today, Monday - Deadzone, Tuesday - Ogre and Fantasy Flights Black Friday stuff. I anticipate annoyed comments from my wife.

I was checking all the various shipping sights, and between today through Tuesday I'm looking at around 12 packages of various shapes and sizes. Admittedly some of those are gifts... some are even for other people besides myself!

I'm thinking something along the lines of what I heard scarletsquig say on the mantic forums, don't want mine to look like the goodguys cause they really aren't So some kind of dark/menacing color for the plates and then mostly black for the recessed bits of armor.

Mine hasn't changed at all. No worries though, as I'm barely home at the moment. Hey James, should I contact Mantic to change shipping to my work address, or should I call FedEx after it starts moving? I've changed addresses on Tim and Stew so often, I feel bad about doing it to you guys instead of FedEx. Of course, it's set that I need a signature, and I can't get that at home.

That looks awesome! Get more pics up as you progress along. One of our Pathfinders has put together a Deadzone wiki page with a section for terrain setups and projects - we're going to get it hosted on the Mantic server (so he hasn't got to deal with ads and things), when it's done I'll get a link here so we can start collecting together all the awesome in one place.

Also, a tip of the hat to Mantic for the super-fast delivery getting from Nottingham to here in 25 hours.

I'm very sure that was not a cheap box to ship, even with shipping contracts and discounts. It's one of those nice things that didn't strictly need to be done (from my perspective) that makes me feel validated as a backer. Hopefully James can convey my appreciation to the appropriate parties for that one.

Guns went "bkoon bkoon."

Lasers went "za za za za."

Got quite a few models missing that was ment to be in this shipment. Will check everthing else and compile a list to email the guys over at mantic. I've got to say though I hope the Deadzone box sets will be more professionally boxed for retail as everything was just chucked in there, was expecting something more akin to the Dreadball box or any other boxed game though it might just of been because they put the KS extras in there, though wouldn't it just be easier to keep it sealed and add the extras on top?

I will accept that interpretation, even if I find the lack of death screams unpalatable.

Guns went "bkoon bkoon."

Only if they are large caliber pistols. Or maybe revolvers loaded with laser-bullets fired in a narrow valley, maybe. (So, useful for Enforcers.)

Lasers went "za za za za."

Again, where are the blood-curdling shrieks of sudden mortality? I'm not sure I want to play Deadzone if we're going to leave out such a crucial component of the hobby.

I found that totally interesting and relevant to the current conversation.

It's relevant to every conversation.

God bless the Japanese and their onomatopoeia for everything in the world.

I'm so old that my brother and I had to read DragonBall manga in the original Japanese*, and we used to laugh and laugh at their onomatopoeia. It took us a while to figure out why all the sound effects ended with "tsu". (No internet back then.)

* Surprisingly easy considering how Japanese-illiterate we were. Almost every bit of dialogue involved words like "power" and "fight", so we only really needed to know about 20-30 kanji to follow what was happening. Then Trunks showed up and we had to up our game by another dozen characters or so. Oh, you man made men, you.

I've not made much headway on the unboxing phase, but I did notice right off that one of my boxes is missing most of their Plague and Enforcer allotments. It looks like the part that should be part of the retail game didn't get packed, so all I have is a handful of extra basic troopers in that one. So, there will be a lengthy verification process it appears, but meh, it's something that'd have to be done sooner or later regardless.

What I do have looks very nice though, and it should be a great time playing with all the terrain (which I will need to get a large storage bin to hold it all).

Anyway, a lot of intake to process before I hit that link to report issues.

My FLGS has Deadzone in stock, the difference to The Warstore being they backed the Kickstarter with a retail pledge and picked up the stock at the Open Day last weekend. In fact will pop in today and pick up another battlezone and the acrylic counters.

With the battlezones there is definitely a knack to getting the connectors to "click" in properly, it just takes some learning and as others have said a bit of filing too. I doubt it is possible to take the buildings down quickly and without breaking pieces for individual game sessions, at least not quickly. That said I am really enjoying the terrain system, just prepare for some sore fingers and thumbs. That was me with a vanilla Strike Team pledge, those of you with 30lb + deliveries may well require medical attention.

Yes I'm not sure about this either. From what I've read, perhaps the best thing to do is assemble them in basic formations (due to the difficulty of disassembly) then go in with the spray/airbrush?

29 different retail stores bought into the retail level of the kickstarter, and of course, since each one was arranged privately some of them probably doubled or tripled up on them to get plenty of stock in.

What they do with it after it arrives is their own choice, but will most likely be "sell as quickly as possible".

There are only 5000 retail copies of DZ going out before Xmas, the others are going on sale in February.

I actually find it interesting that KS-backing retailers are able to sell them first, it kinda nullifies the usual "Kickstarter hurts store sales" debate... in fact in this case it helps stores that backed the KS to sell their stock since they'll have stock of it a week or two before their competitors, a vitally important advantage this close to xmas.

It is possible that board games released via KS might struggle a bit with retail sales, but with something like a wargame I don't think there's an issue since people will always be wanting to buy more to expand it, and their opponents will want to buy their own stuff as well, whereas with board games, one person tends to own a copy and then 1-3 other people play it with them.

I think Squig has nailed the point on the head here, my FLGS is doing a good trade in Deadzone. Think I was lucky to pick up the dice and acrylic counter sets (both today).

As for painting terrain I am painting fully constructed and glued pieces. Black spray, bursts of grey spray and then I am going to add a bit of ink weathering. Quick, easy and I am liking the results.

Also when you have made your terrain, just try adding two pieces to each other (be it side by side, or on top of each other) it can create some brilliant new structures.

The owner is also painting his Enforcer armour like Buzz Lightyear's, I like that idea.

It's just an interesting byproduct of the kickstarter experience that I could have bought the game at retail and received it faster than as a backer. Normally kickstarters utilize the "get it before retail" hook to draw backers and as an added bonus for backers to invest in a project for something that hasn't been oroduced and you can't walk into a store and examine before you buy.

If it's the new year and I still haven't gotten anything; then I'll have reason for complaint but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.

As for painting terrain I am painting fully constructed and glued pieces. Black spray, bursts of grey spray and then I am going to add a bit of ink weathering. Quick, easy and I am liking the results.

Pics please!

At this point would love to see pics of any minis and terrain, even though it's early days surely someone must have speed-assembled and painted by now!

I know there is a thread in the Mantic section for that purpose, hopefully a few more will start to appear..

Maybe because you normally hear it as 'never fail to disappoint' ? When you expect something to be crap, and it is .. think because you change that expression slightly it comes across as an odd thing to say perhaps

Evans970 over on the Mantic forums has this blog http://toomuchmetal.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/first-look-deadzone-manic-openday.html

Lot of good stuff there, some clearer pictures of the display cases and I think they've assembled everything. Also some shots of the titan games boards which are amazing.

I've got to say, the various color schemes on the titan games buildings are awesome! And mixed in together like that, looks much better than I would expect, so now I have to do it Really think about it too, these are all shipping containers from different corporations, why not have different colors!

So some of us are busy painting in our spare time as the game will be on our Anima Wars battle Board to be gamed on this Monday. With the Deadzone Grid Overlay on it. Looking forward to the themed battle!

After the issues they had with the Enforcers, could someone who knows better than me say how many there should be in a Strike Team box currently?

In the specialist bag there was a Captain, Sniper, Rocket Launcher, Engineer w/ two sentry guns and a pistol/blade guy. Then I had one other bag with five guys in it, which I've put together as three rifles, one heavy rifle thing and one blade/pistol guy, giving a total of eleven.. Is that right?

This is correct. Captain, Assault Enforcer, Rocket Launcher, Sniper, Engineer, 2x Sentry Gun in one bag, other bag is a regular baggie of 5 warpath enforcers.

Engineer is quite a weird one to try and figure out just from looking at it so make sure you haven't missed it. The part that you'll take out of the bag and think "wtf is this" is the engineer torso.

That was exactly my reaction.

I'm still a bit unsure about the heads, myself.

There's one without an antennae, a short, stubby antennae and there's one one with a long antennae, plus the 2 Peacekeeper heads.

I ended up putting Stubby on the Engineer and no antennae on the missile launcher. That then left me having to massively hack apart the connector part for the assault guy, so I think I did something wrong.

The Sentry Guns are weird, you get 2 but the Engineer can only carry one according to the rules that I can see.

It didn't help that it was the flashiest piece I've encountered so far too.. His right hand was really indistinct as well. The rest of them were great though, apart from the mould line on the Commander's cloak.

The engineer doesn't have to carry *any* sentry guns. Between the rules for sentry guns and the engineer ability, the whole team can bring sentry guns and the engineer can set them all up for the start of the battle. During the game he can pack and unpack the guns (including enemy guns), but the best ability of the engineer is to have those guns set up to start, spending a whole turn unpacking a carried gun into place is dangerous with the quick and deadly pace of deadzone.

The line right across the back of the cloak is a pain, the fact that it is the thinnest piece of restic on all of the models does not help either. I am a little scared to even try and remove it.

I've been thinking of replacing the marauder heads with some Kromlech or Spellcrow resin ones meant as alternate warhammer heads, but if the size and join is too off I'll just stick with the mantic ones, maybe even order the Mantic fantasy orc heads if they are the same size/join

Still need to do a more thorough inspection for any damage, but at least I've got the basic inventory done. Even just playing with the terrain sprues is an "eeeeee!" feeling.

Random question maybe only James can answer but I'll ask anyway in case someone here was paying better attention: With the changes to the Enforcers, were those who elected to get an Enforcer starter for free supposed to get the mixed starter like the boxes have in this shipment, or were they pushed back to the second shipment? I don't see it in the box, and I would not be surprised if it was delayed until 2014, but it wasn't noted as being such on the shipping list like the others and I wanted to be sure it wasn't supposed to be here.

Got bitten by a couple packing errors so I'm just trying to get my proverbial ducks in a row. Nothing major for me as I still have loads of the things that got left out by mistake (insanity does have *some* perks), but I'd like to get things figured out quickly. Thanks guys!

I had done some thinking but I still don't have anything but the lonely disconnected notification floating in space. Meaning no tiles till middle of next week at the earliest.

I've got some ideas but it's going to take having it in front of me to make them happen. For those of you interested, what are your expectations?

I think magnetizing everything, or using magnets to connect tiles to build a structure is probably right out. Apply pressure in the right direction and the whole thing will flex and fold into a collapse unless I'm quite mistaken.

I do believe it may be possible to use magnets to secure prefab structures together. Say you build a 2x2 tile square building and have a 2x3 tile rectangle. Putting the 2x2 on top and securing those points with magnets seems a lot more viable to me. Unless I'm wrong in my thinking, all of the points secured by magnets would have to yield to let the sections slip, as opposed to just a corner leading into other failures like I said above.

As for doing it... how big are the connectors? Will a 1/8" magnet fit into/instead of both square connector pegs on the straight connector? If that's the case, do that, and then get either a piece of sheet metal or two more magnets on the other side of something stiff, plasticard probably. Still using the connectors, but now they're magnets (and can be loose enough to not need tools to remove).

Another possibility would be to put magnets around the edges of the top of a structure, in a standardized way (dead center of a tile, most likely), such that connectors in the bottom of another structure could match up and be held down. This was my first thought, but I've heard the tiles are beveled so this may not be possible, which is why I was going over the connectors first.

No promises, but I'll try to make this a priority after I get my stuff and I have a general idea of if I have it all or not. I've been threatening to do an in-depth unboxing for months but so many people have beat me to it, this may be a more beneficial contribution.

Some of the heads are part of the body. The rest join using Mantic's "jigsaw" system (which means you can't stick the wrong head on the wrong body), in a lot of cases IIRC the hole is on the neck so yu might need to fill it or use a pin to make the neck of any replacement head secure.

The join is quite similar, but your average GW head will be about 2-3x larger. If you look at a typical 40k ork, the head is often covering most of the torso. It is *huge*. It will look really bad on a mantic marauder, and the kromlech ones are even taller than GW ones from the looks of it:

If you do want to use some larger GW-style heads, then converting goblin heads might be a safer bet, bit more work involved. but the results are quite nice:

Unfortunately there aren't really any companies doing orc bits for anything other than GW-style orcs.

Made up my Rebs last night and loving the models. Hardly any mold lines, few bent parts that needed straightening though no major warping. Very, very happy i decided to go in this kickstarter.

Missing a Sorak though (not checked the rest of the factions yet), 4 dice and a terrain sprue.

Going to construct the rest and then drop an e-mail with what's missing (if anything else), not massive deal as with kickstarter of this size a few mistakes are bound to be made.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I plan to glue some basic structures together and magnetise the roofs (not sure how yet, got to fully look at it) and then connect the buildings via magnetised gangways.

Would be interested to see other peoples attempts though to see what ideas i can stea.... Sorry, borrow.

I'm sure you know this, but for the sake of the rest of the thread don't forget to submit packing errors at the Google Form they have to track it. I'm sure they'll answer emails, but going through the defined route will likely be faster.

On the other topic, I'm not sure that the terrain will magnetize all that well. I'm not really good with magnets, but I don't see where the contact points are going to work real well. I'll be interested to see what other people cook up in this area.

I figured out my plans for the terrain, going to involve coloured translucent acrylic windows. Looks like getting custom-cut rectangles should work great with a little filing down on the internal walls of the window tiles. Just need to find a good source with the right width, colour and custom cut sizes.

Going to base the colour scheme off Miranda from Serenity. Sandstone board (once my secret weapon board arrives), white buildings, turquoisey blue glass.

I think a clear plastic window insert sprue could be pretty popular if Mantic decided to make one. Or possibly some custom resin or acrylic bits from a third party supplier.

I think one wrinkle with that plan that would need consideration is ease of manipulating figures within buildings - the tile with the double window has enough space to fit a finger if needed. If you put in a pane of glass you'd have to make sure there were enough doors/gaps to accomodate gameplay.

Depends on how you make the buildings. If you make them intact but with the back wall (where they meet the edge of the mat) missing, then it would probably work just fine. Kind of doll-house-like.

A good trick that I used on a couple of my buildings was, if you stick the long straight connector / scenery pieces from the accessory sprues on each end, and don't use any corner connectors, you can quite easily create a remove-able wall.

My plan was to cut some clear acetate to shape for the windows. You can get 10 mil A4 sheets intended as booklet covers for fairly cheap, certainly much cheaper than custom cut acrylic. They have colored acetate, mostly used as overhead transparencies, but it's usually more like 2~4 mil sheets.

and I like that I've managed to make every part of it *functional* and not just random corner pieces.

It's really inspiring. Like you say there, it looks better when all of the buildings look like they have some sort of purpose, rather than just being ruined corners. So far I've only made a vehicle garage (and it still needs the roof decorating), but I want to have something in mind for each piece. If I can hit my painting target before the Christmas break starts then I'm going to clear my paint station and just build for a couple of weeks.

I think if painted up right this may go well on a deadzone board.

As would much of the other stuff in the range.

Just realised they were selling some of this stuff in the kickstarter.

I have been assembling figs all day... I have a disdain for the Enforcers idk why, but I feel like God put them on this planet to torment me.

With that being said, my excitement level is still ridiculously high. I've got my plague assembled, starting on one of the other factions while watching Sunday Night Football. I'm half tempted to just treat this as a board game, assemble everything and then never paint it, just so I can play it with people

Really digging your scenery Thrax! I'm probably going to do something similar, then just weather the crap out of it
I've not done much painting yet, still working on a test model. Would love to know what you guys think so far. He's still WIP, lots of the model is just base coat still. Will be taking DZ boxset to work Tuesday, hopefully get a small test game in.

The painting is looking good. Did you prime him?

The platforms his feet are on look awful. Those are going to add a lot of work to my figure clean up when my package finally arrives.

My plan was to cut some clear acetate to shape for the windows. You can get 10 mil A4 sheets intended as booklet covers for fairly cheap, certainly much cheaper than custom cut acrylic. They have colored acetate, mostly used as overhead transparencies, but it's usually more like 2~4 mil sheets.

http://www.cfsbinds.com/clearvincov.html

This is good advice!

I think I'll definitely have a much easier time looking for some 200+ micron thickness material, whatever the source. Getting the right colour and transparency is tricky though. After browsing around for an hour or so, I think I've found my solution:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tiger-foolscap-coloured-wallet-folders/dp/B004WSAOPC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_office_1

Tinted plastic A4 stationary folders. You can get these things in pretty much any colour you want, from almost anywhere. The link above (for the turquoisey one at the back) is what I'll get if I can't find the colour I want individually looking through the local stationers. Reasonably thick, but still cuttable plastic that should do very nicely for windows.

@ ttw85: Would be quite easy to make a firefly game out of deadzone, although I think the plague zombies would be more suitable as reaver minis.

I've got a fairly substantial pledge and I live on the East Coast - I was expecting to see this thing on its way to me by now...

East coast, yeah you're a bit closer than I am. I've been saying all along that I'd be likely to end up closer to last just because. However the sorting goes, if they do it by last name, they'll start at Z, if they do it by amount pledged, they'll send out the small packages first etc

At least I got my miniature market order in and have my enforcer scheme sorted out

Crossing my fingers we get our shipping notifications by tomorrow/wednesday so we can still hope to get them by friday/saturday in a pessimistic time frame.

Right. Mantic created a shipment for everyone in the KS at the same time on the same date so that it's in the system and everyone has a tracking number. Then they are packing them, and Fedex is picking up as many as Mantic has done by their daily pickup time. So highlord tambourlane's was picked up a day before mine was picked up, and it's entirely possible yours is packed and picked up by Fedex tomorrow, Alpharius.

Even if it's just a few more days, you should still bask in the fact that Mantic started shipping in November for a Kickstarter with a December ETA. You'll be getting your Kickstarter on time... and that is very rare indeed

Mine was not courier, but was a rather simple shipment... just Strike plus some AW resin terrain. (Most of my pledge was in extra Enforcers which won't be til wave 2). I wanted to see if the plastic terrain was awesome before ordering more in the second survey.

@judgedoug, that is what is kind of bugging me. Mine *is* paid courier, and I'm probably still going to get it later than a lot of people. Not sure why, its like some kind of shipping/line-waiting curse. I always pick the most efficient looking line at the store and then someone pulls out pennies, or cashier goes on break, or something. I guess that's more my own issue than Mantic, although you'd think if they did things in the order they'd said...

Oh well, like you said I'll probably still get it before christmas which is dandy.

Looked over the merc cards, I'd like to see Jake's commentary on them, some things are a bit weird... but could just be my first impression. Wrath, for instance, is really good at everything--plus a frag weapon and more deadly shoot gun, for 12 points. I'm not sure why he's so cheap, maybe I'll see it in time. Oberon is similar but 16 points, I think its his collection of AP2 weaponry. The survivor has melee 3+, which is sort of odd to me, high survive woulda made more sense to me at least.

Freya is possibly the most interesting. At 9 points she comes with a weight of fire pistol and survive 4+ but little else. Except the stranded rule. You have to deploy her like an enemy scout, but if you can move her off your board edge (no friendly cards can be used, mind you) you get 2 VP. An interesting choice for campaigns, sacrifice 3 renown or reputation or whatever for bringing a merc, for a chance at 2 vp just for moving her along. Interesting.

@Yonan, don't you guys still have cane toads? Screw that mess.

Didn't Mantic say that everyone got bumped to Courier because Royal Mail wouldn't take Deadzone packages? And people that paid Courier were in fact getting a bunch of free stuff or something on the second survey.

 GrimDork wrote:

If it ships before the end of the week it seems like everyone's got 1-day Fedex shipping and Fedex delivers on Saturdays.. I couldn't see it being longer than that. Plus didn't they say everyone would have their orders shipped before the retail release?

Supposedly, they were going to send paid courier packages out first as had always been intended. They had to bump almost everyone to courier because of how royal mail works (wouldn't send the big packages I guess), though it wasn't necessarily supposed to change the intended order.

Bunch of minis translates to resin version of the alternate pre-order survivor sculpt. I'm not overly worried about that, mostly wanted my goodies as soon as possible as I've been promising an unboxing for months and now its vaugely pointless That's ok though, still plenty to share once it's all painted.

I think I'm just grouchy this morning or something.

Yeah, I'd advise watching both numbers as I'm not sure which one of mine ended up suddenly showing information, but their pickup time seems to be about 4PM UK time (roughly 11AM Eastern I think). They seem to be overnight-ing the shipments, so that's definitely a plus. If your service type is "FedEx International Priority" then whenever it starts moving, you'll likely see it the next day barring weather.

I spent most of the weekend trying to sort out what was there and putting all the plastic terrain sprues into a 27qt. container. They don't fit while on the sprue, but hopefully once clipped they'll fit in there nicely. 13 BattleZones is a lot of terrain is what I've learned from all this... Hopefully tonight will see some assemblage going on, assuming I find one of my superglue caches. I buy the stuff 4-5 bottles at a time, then forget where I put the bag. So I'm sure I've got a dozen such bottles SOMEWHERE in the house... *grumble*

And they seem to work pretty well too. I hate the gel stuff (they sell it too though, if you like that) but the basic superglue is great. The bottles like to get nasty along the end and become problematic before they're used up, but they're something like $0.33 a piece, so it's no great loss. Not a very fine applicator, but for normal supergluing they're good enough for me.

So just opened the package before I had to come back to work... Checking the packing list and I think I got everything except for 'Random Dreadball MVP' is that now or 2014? I don't care too much because I don't play dreadball, but...

Got my package today. Even though I emailed James with an updated address because FedEx won't deliver to the PO Box I originally gave Mantic, they still listed the PO Box as my address. Luckily FedEx had my phone number so I was able to pick it up as soon as they open. Everything looks good inside the box except I had a small bag of 3rd gen plague guys pop open inside the game box, took me a moment of shaking he terrain sprues to get the missing arm and head to pop out. Also the right hand edge of my cover is a bit scuffed up. I still need to go through all the baggies to make sure everything looks good. Oh yea, I only got 4 dice. Ah well, use to play L5R roleplaying so I'm good on D10s.

Pretre, if your random MVP is the enforcer and you're planning on trading/selling him off, I call dibs. You know, since you don't play Dreadball. Don't offer to anyone else, I want him!

Hi folks,

Got mine today. Only had time to give everything a quick glance, so this is very much a first impression (and open to devastating revision), but my first impression is that GW will need to watch their back. So far terrain looks excellent, and the figures bear up much better in person than in the photos. Don't know without going over them more carefully if that will lead me to revise my opinions of Plague 3rd gens or the Marauders yet, but looks like it's a possibility. I did get a look at the 2nd gen Plague bodies, which I initially thought had great concept designs but middling execution, and they are excellent. (Still planning to modify the one who's studying the dirt.)

And I have to eat some humble pie, because I had a religious experience and lost 2 feet of height today. My random MVP is the exceptionally well-cast "Painmaster" Yurik (anybody know if this was a Remy sculpt?). Considering how shy I haven't been about announcing my general dislike of Space Dwarfs on this thread or on the Deadzone KS comments, you might feel that someone at Mantic was sadistically serving me up some karma. If that was their intention (of course it wasn't), it backfired. I love the little guy, and am now seriously considering buying into the Forge Fathers on the 2nd survey. Looks like Yurik will be very easy to hand-swap a gun or heat-hammer onto, and he doesn't have an outright "sporty" pose, so he would fit into a Deadzone FF team perfectly. And if anyone reading this is short, I no longer resent you because you don't have to worry about having your legs crushed in airplane seats.

I also think that since short=good in any game that emphasizes cover, Forge Father rules should take into account this natural advantage for the sake of game balance. Otherwise, I could see every player purely interested in winning preferentially fielding the little buggers.

Rulebook looks great, and had no dings / bends / problems. Likewise my sealed card decks and counter sheet were in great shape. The postcards, for which I cared not a fig until a brilliant movie screen terrain adaptation was posted here, are actually very, very nice. Perhaps I'll send some out as seasonal greetings, and one may get theater screen-ized on the board, but most I will hoard pointlessly like a Raven with a shiny object. The mouse mat looks good, but to my eye the paper mat looks even better, with a clearer palette and sharper resolution. I think the paper mats, which seemed like a throw-away item once the mouse mats were announced, could end up being the surprise limited ed. bonus of this KS campaign. I intend to scan mine, print out compatible interlocking sections of it on adhesive paper, apply said paper stickers to a wooden, plactic, or ferrous steel sheet metal base, and create my own 4'x4' Deadzone board. Don't think I'll be adding any more Deadzone mats to the upcoming Mars Attacks or survey 2 orders after all, which is excellent as it makes room for more landing pad and fortress battlezones (or perhaps a Martian robot).

You'd never guess it from my handle, but I live in the U.S.A. in the state of Vermont. I'll need to itemize my stuff and think it all over, but if any other USA / Canada types are interested in trades, I will almost certainly have extra Core Worlds terrain battlezones available. I have nothing against Brits or penal colonists, but I imagine a small trade wouldn't be worth the shipping costs for either of us. My trade interests are limited to sci-fi but are not exclusive to Deadzone or Mantic products, so could be a deal for someone. Details forthcoming on the appropriate thread.

So overall, you'd think I'm pretty positive about things so far. I'm not. All of the above positive impressions were cast into damnation and ruin by the fact that I got only eight dice, and only ONE Sorak. Yes, even I, who once so unmemorably posted in the KS comments thread that the Sorak was the break-out Rebs race surpise hit of Deadzone*, only got one. So I will now go out into the falling snow wild-eyed and turn my head skywards Jack Nicholson-style to scream

HEEEEEEEWIIIIIIIIIT!! Heeeeeewiiiiiit! heeeeeeewiiiiiit!

* Sad but true.

P.S. Pics or it didn't happen, yes. You guys have been very generous with your pics and advice, I will be reciprocating as soon as I'm able.

Mine were all in the boxed sets, and all of them were Riller. Since I already have all the DreadBall stuff, they were kind of a non-entity in my mind, but now I have 4 Rillers. Ah well, can't win them all.

So I take it nobody remembered if the bonus Enforcer starters were supposed to be there or just generally pushed back until they could be done "properly"? Anyone in the latest wave pick Enforcers for their freebie?

As a Dreadball fan, I'm more looking forward to this than using the MVP in Dreadball, I think it's a great mission idea ; ) I could see a custom mission where you have to rescue an entire team from a large facility being awesome too. God damnit... more things to work on....

Also I'm not so sure how random the random dreadball MVP is, because I too got Painmaster Yurik

It's like a table from the original Tomb Raider game...

I realise I might be in the minority, but I'm not a fan of the buildings. Too many same-sized cubes, the panels appear to have a gap between them when they fit together, the single-section balcony railings that leave big gaps, and the holes for the connectors on each piece add to the toy-like appearance.

The cubes are sadly very important to how the game plays, so they're kind of here to stay

Insaniak, that sort of setup might give good gameplay, but yeah it's defintiely not how I envision making my deadzone terrain. Even if it does "play" better, I don't think it'll feel better because it just seems so unrealistic, when realism should be quite doable.

I'm thinking of some of the areas from Mass Effect... 3? I think, which were made up of similar cargo-habitation things.

A lot of it comes down to how you put it together, it can look very toylike if assembled in an abstract way rather than looking like real buildings.

I much prefer the look of Mantic's earliest solid building builds rather than the newer "corner here, barricade there, half of an open smallish building with a wall missing there" efforts.

Agreed on the balcony railings although those can be replaced with the much more solid looking barricades, or even more solid defence line pieces if you want so there are options, it's just about making the best out of the kits.

Here we go, an example but not the one I was really thinking of.

edit: and here is the closest I could find of the mission I was thinking of if anyone remembers it, rescuing civilians from a poor area made up of cargo-habitation units.

Yeah, bonus faction starter. Sorry.

Okay, cool, I'm trying to figure out where the hell everything I should be getting is? I'm not sure everything came in my box (labels would have been awesome )

According to my Survey, I should have gotten the following:

Spoiler:

Deadzone Boxed Game:
- Enforcer Starter Set
- Plague Starter Set
- Scenery
- Tokens
- 6 Dice
- Tokens
- Paper gaming mat
- Rulebook
- Enforcer Deck
- Plague Deck
Deluxe Gaming Mat
Rebs Starter Set
Marauder Starter Set
*Enforcer Faction Booster (bought with the bogo)
Rebs Faction Booster (bought with the bogo)
*Free Asterians starter
*The Survivor Kickstarter Exclusive Mercenary model
*Doctor Gayle Simmonds
*Pathfinder Recon Unit N32-19
*Nastanza, Twilight Huntress
*Wrath, Judwan Assassin
*Blaine, Deadzone Mercenary
*Nameless Mercenary
*Freya, a Forge Father Smuggler

I seem to be missing my Enforcer Faction Booster, my Asterians (which said on my packing slip they'll ship 2014), and all of those extras (marked with an *). That is purposeful right? I just want to make sure because there was a lot in that box and none of it was labeled.

Enforcer Booster is delayed since they switched to hard plastic sprues and are making sure the tooling is good on them. In compensation, they gave you a baggie of Warpath restic Enforcers and so in the next wave you'll get a not only the normal Enforcer soldiers in hard plastic (that should have been in your Enforcer starter set but were replaced with the stopgap Warpath Enforcers) but also all of the the booster's new hard plastic figures.

It's all in the most recent Deadzone update so you can use that as a checklist guide

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/deadzone-the-sci-fi-miniatures-board-game/posts/686474

As people are starting to get their hands on Deadzone, some people are asking what everything in the big brown box is - entirely understandable, as there's so much in there! Being the helpful souls that we are, we're going to put together a few updates that talk you through it all!

We aim to show you how what you ordered through your survey corresponds to a) what's on your packing slip, and b) what's in your box. This will help you check you've got everything.

let's have a quick recap on what it is that's shipping in the first package:

Deadzone Boxed Game, including all of the counters and cards you need to play.

Faction Starters – Enforcers, Plague, Rebs, Marauders

Faction Boosters – Plague, Rebs, Marauders (NOT Enforcers - these are shipped in 2014)

Faction Booster Bundles – Plague, Rebs, Marauders (NOT Enforcers - these are shipped in 2014)

All individual models in the above sets

8 Plastic Mercenaries – The Survivor, Recon Unit N32-19, Blaine, Nastanza, Wrath, Doctor Simmonds, Freya, and Oberon

2 Premium hand-cast metal Mercenaries – Helfather and Chovar

Random DreadBall MVP

Warpath Heroes – Enforcer Captain, Forge Father Huscarl, Forge Father Thorgarim Hero and Marauder Warlord

Scenery – Core Worlds, Fortifications, Landing Pad, Accessories and Connectors

Antenociti’s Workshop Urban Detailing Bundles

Gaming Mats

Rulebooks

Faction Dice

Acrylic Counters (If you've ordered these you will be getting both the Standard and Plague pack)

Resin Equipment Crates

Battle Foam Bag (may ship separately)

T-Shirts

Patch

Paint Sets

Everything else - including the Enforcer Faction Booster - will be shipped in the second package (so please don't email us and tell us you're missing it).

Keep in mind that the Mercs are all in one bag. That threw me.

I am officially missing my Dreadball MVP (finally did the tally after my last conference call) so I messaged them on Kickstarter to get it in the second wave.

Just a note. The first item listed for Update 124 is actually the terrain in the Deadzone box/The set of bonus terrain for Strike Team. It isn't the contents of a Core Worlds Battle Zone.

I had a nice round of private messages this weekend to double check that point, because I wasn't sure whether I was missing some sprues. The message said that there would be a clarification to the update later.

If you ordered some Core Worlds Battlezones, the line on the invoice that says
Core Worlds Battlezone (Scenery 1 x 4, Scenery 2A x 2, Scenery 2B x2, Connectors x1)

is right.

In the box, and for the Strike team bonus terrain, you get a Core Worlds Battlezone PLUS Scenery 3 x 2.

This may sound stupid but are you actually meant to get them? I am pretty sure they are paid add ons so you don't actually get them with strike team.

I had the stock strike team pledge. Inventory was a pain, wish Mantic had given a wall of text with the breakdown of bag contents, but eventually just made a pile for each faction and then tried to line everything up based upon the faction pictures on the KS.

I appear to have the 6 dice problem and missing a bag of 'Extra 1 Rebs'. It looks like I have an additional 'Extra 1 Plague', so guessing the packer just grabbed the wrong bag.

Can't believe how much goodness was stuffed in that box. My copy of Ogre came a half hour before Deadzone as well. Luckily, one of my wife's Christmas presents was coming in today via Fedex, so I asked her to warn me when she saw the Fedex guy and to go in another room. I think this can be used around her Birthday and Mother's Day.

Today was a good day.

The anticipation of waiting for a shipping notice for this game combined with the anxiety over it being exam week is going to give me an aneurism and/or a heart attack.

Yeah, the biggest reason why I'm fairly certain I'm missing Hellfather and Chovar... not a single metal mini in the bunch...

This may sound stupid but are you actually meant to get them? I am pretty sure they are paid add ons so you don't actually get them with strike team.

Did not know (at this point, but probably did at the time I pledged) I did not pay for those. Were the mercs paid addons as well?

All the mercs other than Boomer, Chovar and Helfather are included in Strike Team.

8 restic minis in their own bag.

The other three were paid add-ons and will be metal due to lack of demand in the first survey.

It doesn't say anything more than town/city and state, otherwise I would of contacted them sooner about my address.

The game uses D8s, not D10s, curses, I need the missing D8s than...

Well, my box finally arrived (Fedex appeared and disappeared into the mists Friday while I was at work, and I was regretting not staying home sick that day!). After waiting an agonizing weekend and cursing Fedex not delivering on weekends (Seriously? Multinational company and you don't deliver on weekends?!), it finally came!

First impressions are that the models are great and terrain is superb. Haven't assembled anything, but models look clean and detailed, and better in person than the pictures online.

However, two sticking points:

A) Rulebook was very dinged on the side opposite of the spine. Not enough to ruin it or hamper usability, but disappointing as it was probably one of the components I was most looking forward to.

B) Missing all of my dice! Dunno why, but I was short all 8 of the dice, and notified Mantic that it was missing.

Still, very pleased with my purchase, and cannot wait for the Enforcer booster, my Forgefather booster, my Ruins battlezone, the Peacekeepers, and the Zombies!

Mantic, you NEED to get better organized with the stuff. labels would be key. This is a nightmare trying to figure out if i got everything.

hell, stickers with A, B, C, D, E, F, etc. on them would be better than nothing. =/

stuff looks great so far.

p.s.
the alternate sculpt rewards for hitting 3-350$+, is the alt plague lord 2nd shipment?

Yeah, my five and a half year old loves all things sci-fi and miniature. So this is the next step. The wife will at least paint some and the gaming group will fill in the rest. If all goes well, we should have a minor campaign league going in a month or so.

Har har har!

I got me box! Very happy with what was in it... but....

I am missing all kinds of stuff! Marauder commandos, a few pieces(?) of a plague terraton, my resin loot counters, 4 more dice, 3rd gens with knives... ended up with an extra bag of 3rd gens with a heavy machine gun and an extra flamer from the Marauder booster.

Haven't really gone through the other factions yet to see what's there. Hopefully they're all there.

Despite some packing hickups (like a missing arm and shoulder guard from my Terraton), a scratched up rulebook cover, I am still quite pleased with all that was in that box.

Weirdest thing though- NONE of the figures I've started fiddling with fit in their bases! Not a single one! Some of the integrated bases on the plague are nowhere even close to fitting in the base! This is a big departure from the fantasy stuff of Mantic I've built, where everything is nice and snug.

I guess I'll be emailing Mantic once I've gone through everything.

That doesn't sound too good. Even with the 5% error rate mantic were targeting, that's still 250 people, but... does sound like a *lot* of errors being reported in threads. Substantial errors too, not just a single model here and there, but multiple packs of models.

Just checking here, but did you flash the base as well? There was a bit of flash around the edges that I needed to remove before putting in the base.

Why'd you get yours so quickly? I kept checking my tracking religiously today, hoping it would finally say it started moving. Did they actually send another email once it got going? And are the integrated bases too big or too small for their stands?

The figures' integrated bases are too small- my undead and orcs fit the deadzone/ warpath bases I got fine. Going to have to green stuff all the gaps. Fun. With all the work ahead of me I think I will toss my hat in with the slotted base crowd, as these bases aren't going to be much (if any) help at all.

Seems I also only have 2 enforcers with wrist blades. Is that right? I've got enough basic guys with rifles though, as well as all my specialists.

I also have WAY too many human rebs and 3rd gens. Not sure how that happened, as I certainly hadn't pledged extra for them. Will probably give some to Barzam to tide him over until his stuff gets here.

With the sheer amount of stuff I think after I inventory everything I'm going to be working through one faction at a time.

Really like my Marauders (even though I'm down a few commandos)!

Really? Because.. they look awful. They were the first thing I'd be changing. The Mantic board with all the barricades that we keep seeing that picture of looks nothing like a real ...anything.

That is just a result of what you make, though... I went to a lot of effort trying to make my terrain look 'real.' With every building having a story function.

Outpost Gatehouse

Comms Bunker

Maintenance Garage

Yeah, I don't care much about the military training area look we've seen from Mantic, too. The components ware nice, but the way those tables look reminds me of those cheap Russian tabletop knockoffs you find sometimes on eBay...

After some deliberation I've decided to keep using my scratchbuilt terrain (which I've cunningly started to construct along multiples of 3") for normal gameplay (worked mostly fine while playing with the beta ruleset), and sing the Mantic sprues to build a set of 'Deadzone Mortalis' boards for interior games. Best of both worlds, I think.

You can get a tighter fit by cutting the pegs off the connectors and gluing everything together. There will be some long walls coming out soon as well that enable less "boxy" terrain and more in the way of octagonal shapes or buildings with bevelled corners.

Doesn't necessarily mean he was unpopular, just that Mantic have to sell a certain quantity before they make it in restic. Judging by ~2500 dreadball backers and restic MVPs for that I'd say that figure lies somewhere around 2000-3000 minis for a restic tool.

I don't think I knew you were a Dad - I thought you were too young to have a 5 year old!

The things you don't know...

But then we often don't know what we don't know.

Anyway, I was impatient and sent a "What's up?!?" email to Mantic - I was told to not worry, and most likely my package would ship this week sometime.

So, it looks like next week will be the arrival time frame for me!
