I'd be up for painting and converting a marine from my homebrew chapter for it specially!

Oh, add Mentor Legion to the list as well! Whoops.
Might I suggest that the prize go to a random participant, to keep up the general spirit of generosity?

Post by: smurfwedge
Cool Ill add your Legion now
I like your idea actually. Its probably a bit more fair as people that dont paint to Golden Demon standard will still get a chance. Its all about participation, being a part of something different and raising a bit of money for charity.

Put me down for Raven Guard please that would be cool.
I'll also back the charity idea but because i will say this there will be a big argument over what charity. Well, i hope not.

First Progenitor Chapter has gone
Raven Guard is now taken
Yeah it could cause some debate but we can cross that bridge when we come to it (maybe the easiest way to solve this would be to ask the winner of the eventual bid as to what charity they would like their money to go to)
inmygravenimages idea has been passed by the inner council (me haha ) and the initial text above has now been edited to suit. Makes it fairer so everyone has the chance to win, not just the good painters
Also everyone has liked the charity idea so far too so that is what we will do

I reckon you can get them all within 4-5 months. Especially if people actually want to do this well.
29334

Starting in Jan i think 4 - 5 months is a good time length but this can be ammended to sooner if the submissions peter out over time.

Can I shotgun Black Templars???
Do you want just a basic tactical marine with a bolter?? Or are we equipping them with what ever?
Do you want non metallic or is just whatever you want to do?
29334
Post by: smurfwedge
Black Templars are yours mate
First come first served
Any marine will do so if you want to submit a tactical marine then go for it
If you want to convert go for it too
The only stipulation is that if you are doing a progenitor chapter like the Black Templars (like you are) or even a named chapter (one already in existence) then you must adhere to that Chapters painting scheme
However if you decide to do your own chapter then you are free to do what you want

Count me in. I like the idea of raising money for charity by painting a model.
I will paint a Tear Bringer for this project. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/146317-Sergeant%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Tactical%20Squad%2C%20Verteran%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000.html
So what do you actually want model wise? Are we creating a mass of random marines or are we creating a playable army?
Now if people are giving suggestions for a charity mine is The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital. But I think the charity should be chosen by the winner of the auction.

As I'm 15 I'm easy for choice of charity, maybe a childrens charity, maybe a forces related charity as i want to be a medical officer, have a poll maybe.
I stick to the scheme, dont worry
what base type do you want? or do you want a plain base?
whoa PDH just saw your marine how did you do the battle damage? TELL ME

I'm all the way over down in wee lil' NZ but I'm all in for putting in a dusk raider.
Are you going pre-heresy with the traitor chapters? If so, then I'll swap my dusky for a Death Guard. Either way it's the same chapter
Charity I think should go to the winner of the auction for sure. It's their cash and obviously the charity angle should be used exclusively to push the sale up. Also basing should probably all be the same.. will you be doing it? Or giving us a theme so we can all match it?
Great idea!

Post by: smurfwedge
Welcome Guys
PDH - It isnt really the interntion to create a playable army so please submit whatever marine you want be it a Tactical, Assault, Sarge, Devastator, Anything really
So basically a mass of marines from all different chapters
CreepyCrawly - Done mate. Salamanders are now taken by you
HamHam - Regarding the bases i think maybe we will put it to a vote as to what base it will be. I think the idea of having the same base makes sense. So guys send in your votes and ill keep a track of them and put them up on the board. I, myself prefer maybe an urban base but i will leave it up to you all
Ed-Bodger - Of course. We will be proud to have the Emperor's Lions join the Conclave
The only JP - I like the idea of a childrens or a forces based charity. But I think maybe the winning bidder will have the decision of where the money will go
Makes it fair as there are so many charities that we could donate to
Monkeh - Anyone from the land of the long white cloud is more than welcome mate
We are sticking to Loyalist Chapters mate so I have stuck in the Dusk Guard in above for you
As for charity I think that is the way we will go and get the winning bidder to choose
Basing as i just posted above will be decided by vote so send it what you would prefer as it would def be better to have uniform bases
Automatically Appended Next Post: Im really stoked how quick this project is taking off
We already have 12 Chapters in less than a day and hopefully many more to come
Spread the word if you guys have friends that want to contribute as well

As for the timescale. We can make it shorter but im just trying to get as many people to participate as possible and while we already have 14 obviously it would be good to have a lot more.
Hopefully when i post pictures of some of my marines in a few minutes it will get onto the Dakka project homepage and generate some more interest

Not the greatest picture quality
Also please dont judge this too harshly as this was done 10 years ago when I first started 40K
This is a picture of my Grey Apostles 3rd Company Captain
As for the time frame
We also have to keep in mind the guys posting a marine from other parts of the world which can take a while in itself
Maybe Valentines Day for a cut off for new submissions and then this will only go on Ebay and complete the project once all the Chapers have been received by me from their various regions

I think posting wise, when you are done with your models, PM me and i will send each person individually my postal address
Dont want to really post my address on an open forum
Regarding the basing i think this cold be an area of contention so I reckon that since we are almost split down the middle between grass/sand and urban, I reckon we will go with those 2 ideas and you can choose which one of these you want to do

One Space Marine Librarian with Staff and Book ordered today, who will arrive in store on Christmas Eve.
I think an actual deadline is needed but that can wait until after Christmas. A Valentine's day deadline is a little short for me...it'll take me a month to paint this model (not actual time). Perhaps an April Fools deadline
I have to agree with you smurfwedge that posting your address on the internet could be... er.... a dangerous thing. I want to do a Blood Angel home brewed successor chapter, Fortis Angels. Which I believe translates to Courageous Angels. Background for them, is that they are on a crusade hunting down the Black Legion. I have lots of chaos bits such as heads and chainswords and bodies already model on the bases or in the hands. Is this ok.
P.S. I also think I have an extra Mephiston model, that needs stripped so I might use it.

Background for them, is that they are on a crusade hunting down the Black Legion. I have lots of chaos bits such as heads and chainswords and bodies already model on the bases or in the hands. Is this ok.
P.S. I also think I have an extra Mephiston model, that needs stripped so I might use it.

No problem with a few Chaos bits as obviously they have had to make do to repair their armour and stuff
Goes with their back story and they are still Loyalist so more than welcome

I think I'll bite. I have already volunteered for Porukslime's and Disjointed Entity's Deathwatch projects so one more volunteer painting project sounds like fun.
Since Salamanders have already been snapped up, may I paint either a Mantis Warrior (with cool Jump Pack, katana and custom pieces- courtesy of Gitsplitta) or a Son of Medusa as they both have green colour schemes.

Hi mate. No its not a marine swap. There is already the Great Marine Swap so I wouldnt want to duplicate that
This is a project where everyone sends me a marine that they have painted from their given chapter (as long as it hasnt already been taken) They will then be photographed individually and then as a group to show what has been achieved
All will be posted on Dakka
This whole project will then be auctioned off and all the proceeds will go to charity
Hope this helps with any confusion
Please feel free to submit a chapter

- Fortress Grey, codex grey, shadow grey, skull white,

- dark angels green, snot green,
- tin bitz , boltgun metal, badab black wash,

For basing, I'm using an old tank hatch which'll be suitably distressed to suggest neglect in an urban wasteland.

Also if I might make a suggestion?
Since this is going to be an "Army" of different Chapters I think that the bases being consistent is one of the most important things. Rather than looking like a massive jumble of random coloured marines, consistant bases will make it appear that all these Marine Chapters have gathered in the same place.
Here is the basing I use on my marines;
It's nothing special and that's exactly why I think it works really well. It's fairly neutral and natural so it goes very nicely on a large variety of boards, it's also extremely easy to do, and if you like it I can even create a small tutorial for everyone to follow to make sure we all do the same style. Let me know.
Here are a couple more shots for reference;

I would submit that whatever base design is chosen, it should be easy, and not require anything weird, or custom resin bases, etc.
Also, whatever is chosen should be accompanied by a quick set of instructions, which includes what paints were used.

Ok guys the base issue is going to be a bit contentious
We had a poll for this and the forum was basically split into 2 groups
One group urban and one group sand and grass with urban getting one or 2 more votes
The reason it was decided that there would be a choice is because of this split and that I didnt want to discourage participation by forcing people into something they didnt want to do or were'nt equipped for (some people only had parts for urban basing or sand and grass basing)
I understand the need for conformity though and it makes sense but if half do urban and half do sand and grass then perhaps it will be a meeting with half the chapters on an urban base and the other half perhaps on a sand and grass base within the city (a park perhaps)
Or perhpas half on the outskirts of the city on sand and grass base and the other half actually in the city on urban base
Hope everyone agrees with this Automatically Appended Next Post: JaxnFury wrote:Sorry I just noticed the image I posted for my Marine colour scheme was broken, i've also changed the chapter name to "The Arcadian Angels" if you could update that please.

Hello,
I would like to throw in my WIP chapter the Sons of Ashryn. This sounds like a pretty fun project.
Here is the page where my chapter is slowly being built-up and an idea as to what they will be looking like, although I need to update the log slightly since my scheme has changed slightly.

If we do a optional base of a) or b) type, I am considering what fits to the desertly paint-scheme.
I think he should raid the outskirts tough..
Could do a second one to roam the inner city.
Still need to move them across this channel so undecided if 2 are an option.

It is a good idea but we cant really force people to do it
Might be too much for some and some people have already posted off their marines to me
So perhaps we either leave this idea or people can agree on something and add it if they wish
This is also more a conclave (ie. a meeting of chapters) than a campaign
Although there must be something to meet for (eg. some dire threat that threatens the Imperium) so it would ultimately end up in a campaign

So you've actually got some marines?
About campaign badges:
these are badges used in a campaign by all imperial forces, ie from guardsmen to marines and titans..
Often skulls, lightning bolts, crossed swords, axes, wings, crosses, stars, eagles heads, claws, mailed fist, and any combo of those.
2 or 3 of them are available at GW's decal sheets ( IIRC the skull in a circle and the lightning bolt in a circle ) for IG and SM.
To quote the "insignium astartes" book:
The design of an Army badge is deliberatly straightforward. Usually it consits of a simple geometric shape overlaid with a motif or it might be a simple stencilled icon.
......
Space Marines generally apply the Army Badge to their right leg greave.
Some of the easier ones should not complicate painting too much, but as some seem to have completed and sent their work it may just become optional
to apply a badge. At least this optional badge should be a common one, I second we need to agree upon it ASAP and anyone joining later has to follow.
It shall be considered too:
- some chapters aren't 'codex'
- some painters aren't using extensive markings at all ( ie squad number, company colors, ....)

Nope no marines arrived yet but I know a few guys have posted them
I think the badge should be optional as I dont want to force people to add something they dont want to or cant paint
This is more about submitting a marine to represent your chapter as you want it to be seen
Also as they are not actually in a campaign it wont affect the whole project really
This is more of a meeting of chapter representatives (ie. conclave)

Ive had quite a few PMs and posts about a deadline so i reckon this is it

Will still accept new chapter requests but that will be the deadline for the painting
Then you have a month to post this off, so end of April all marines would hopefully have arrived

But while I cant tell you what to name your chapter, I would advise a possible name change since the Luna Wolves was Horus's Chapter until they were renamed the Sons Of Horus at the start of the Heresy and I doubt that any loyalist chapter would name themselves that

Why?
There will be 2 scouts
Scouts aren't cheaper than other plastic marines and you can outperform the other marines on its paintjob too, so a scout is as valuable as any other 'out of the box fig'.

what might be interesting is to have a bit of fluff for each marine, and then an overall story which can be a contest haha but that would be a lot of fluff.
I have my sky-wardens which will take a while to start actually painting since i need to buy some quickshade for them. The other chapter i have is my ex-girlfriends which is titled the sons of talidha, which is a blue chapter. ill get some pics up when i start some models for this!

I have Librarian of the Fire Order of the Storm Crusaders Chapter. Basically a sub sub rank of the Library. Just tell me where to send it. Sorry for paint job, just started to paint. The Order of Fire- This order specializes in the use of pyschic attacks as it uses the power of the warp to destroy the enemies from afar. Using all manners of combat to combat the foe the Order of fire literally burns the life out of all of their enemies, and shoot leath lightning at their enemies. They slaughter their enemies in the name of the Imperium and they know no fear. Colors: Fire Red + Dark Green Motto: "We are the lords of fire, and we shall put your life to it." Equipment: Melta weaponry, and usually avenger ability. Background Storm Crusaders Founding:Second Founding Battle Cry: The Storm Has Come for you! Geneseed: (expunged) Homeworld: Drancoris Sector Chapter Master: Grand Templar Calnor Alrnia and Arch Templar Malnar Chapter no: 124 Current Activities: Crusades in Armaggeddon, Grimnar, Ghoul Stars, Drancoris Number of Companies: 31 The Storm Crusaders are a massive chapter containing at least 3,700 Space Marines. Due to its large size it is often sent on campagians, that are long and bloody. The Chapter is orgainized into compaines like normal space marine chapters but this chapter differs in its names and its orginzation of its compainies. The 2-5 Compaines are Battle Compaines, that are usually sent on campagians in the Ghoul Stars, the 6th-9 compaines are reserve compaines that protect the fortress Monestary from harm. The 10th,14,16,17,18th,19th,20th,22nd and the 23rd are all Campagianing Companies, These are the main bulk of the chapter, but unlike battle compaines they specialize in a certain type of Battle Brother. For Example the 10th Company Nicknamed the Iron Wolves by other Imperail Orgainzations has 4 Tactical Squads, 3 Assualt Squads, and 3 Devastor Squads. Compared to the 20th company which consists of 4 Tactical, 4 Devastors, and 2 Assualt Squads. All of the companies are very indepedent from the Chapter, each company holds a fortress or Outpost in which to recurit more troops for the chapter and their company. Unlike Most Chapters the Storm Crusaders have 5 Elite Compaines. They are orgainized into these 5 orgianzations, they so follow, the 15th The Guardians-The Defenders of the Storm Crusader's Fortress Monestary. Alpha Squadron has no company marking but is instead the special forces of the chapter, as their name dicates they deal with some of the most fearsome oppenents in the gaxaly. . The 31st Company is the Brothers of the Sword, a large company only consisting of Vanguard and SternGuard Veterans. The 21st Company is a company only consisting of Termiantors. And finnaly the 1st Company Consisting of a Mix between Vanguard, Sternguard, and Terminators.
There short and sweet.

This idea sounds really, really cool. I'd love to help, but I have a hard enough time converting and painting my own marines (being truescales, they take a considerable investment of both time and money to make, so I just can't afford to give mine away, no matter how cool the reason is).
I really can't wait to see this all done. If it's completed, it'll probably end up being the greatest project Dakka's ever accomplished.

Just a bit of progress to show for you- sorry I've been MIA for so long... MBA program and work is killer. I'm also promoting my marine and this project on my thread as well, The Promethean Hammer.
WIP Body- Had to take an older Assault Marine Body (only kind I had) from the original plastic SM kits, shaved off the aquila and markings to make him into my unique prototype.
Wip Head- Scorpion Tail... was thinking about putting claws on the sides of the head, like the Eldar Scorps, but I decided against mimicking so closely.
WIP Body 2- Front View, smoothing of GS work to ensue before primering/painting
WIP Body 3 - Side View, originally wanted to arm him with a Khopesh, but I don't have any Tomb Kings bits... so I'm giving him an Old-School Powerfist (circa 1990??) w/ Scorpion insignia moulded onto it. And I'll be moulding his remaining shoulderpad with more GS Scorpion insignia.
Paint Scheme will be black with hands, face-plate, and scorpion crest gradation from black-brown to dark-brown/red. I'll be putting up more progress pics as I come closer to completion!

I can finally post an update on the two marines I promised, both have now been built and undercoated. I've also made a start on painting the Rainbow Warrior. I've deviated a bit from the GW colour scheme by making the model a bit darker simply because I think darker blues look better.

If anyone is having trouble painting the DakkaDakka campaign badge I have made this hopefully simple to follow Tutorial
1. Paint a black circle.
2. Paint a yellow square in the centre.
3. Paint a straight black line down the centre of the square splitting it equally in half.
4. Paint a straight black horizontal line about 4/5th of the way up the two rectangles.
5. Paint the two little squares an orange colour.
6. Round off the edges of the two smaller squares then add two yellow lines at the bottom of the two rectangles to make it look more like a bullet.
Here is the finished product.
