Hopefully this means the updated Legion Crusade List should be out in a month or two, since it was mentioned as being in the works when this book was announced at the Weekender earlier this year.
Presenting the first Warhammer community painting competition.
We've been so impressed over the last few months with the miniatures that you guys have been sharing with us that we've decided to run a painting competition.
It’s easy to enter: paint the model, post a picture in the comments on this post, and at the end of the month our favourite wins a prize.
You have all month to get your entries in, so take your time, and make sure your photo is a good one.
How to enter:
Post your image in the comments under this image before May 31st.
Terms?
The model must be a Forge World or Citadel Contemptor Dreadnought.
One entry per person please, we'll delete any duplicate images.
You must have painted the model yourself (if we find out you haven’t, you can't win, and we'll be really disappointed in you).
What do I win?
We'll send out a suitably cool prize to the winner.
Zingraff wrote: The paintjob is unfortunate. It looks uncharacteristic of FW and it drowns out a lot of the detail that's clear and obvious in the unpainted pictures. Unpainted, and particularly without the exaggerated highlights, they look quite good. If they had been given a more typical, moderate and realistic, airbrushed and weathered FW detail, they would have looked a lot better.
It looks like someone was using the model to start learning NMM techniques.
Sooo... big Bull Centaur Shar'tor the Executioner, of the Legion of Azgorh
There’s so much coming up at Warhammer Fest, I couldn’t resist showing you another new model that’ll be available there first. Introducing Shar’tor the Executioner of the Legion of Azgorh… Shar’tor is shown here next to a Daemonsmith for scale, and he is HUGE! Bigger even than the Bull Centaur Taur’uk. Click on the picture for a better view, and a look at the box he’ll come in.
Shar’tor the Executioner will be available first at Warhammer Fest, and soon after on the Forge World web store.
There’s still more to come on what’s going to be available at Warhammer Fest, so get your tickets whilst you can and keep checking this bulletin for more!
Mr_Rose wrote: I, uh, isn't that a flying base? He looks like he could headbutt most of the flyers in 40k out of the sky…
This is a smaller base than the one you're thinking. From AoS this is an oval base that is 52mm wide and 90mm long, while the Dwarf is on a 25mm base. Its the base GW has been using on some of the newer cavalry models and is consistent with the standard Bull Centaurs.
That new monster is a beautiful sculpt. It appears to use pieces from the abandoned kdaii (the shield bearing hand with its stubby fingers), though whether they're literally the same pieces reused or merely conceptually the same, is not clear.
With that being said, it's a bit disappointing that they abandoned that kdaii sculpt, which seemed pretty original, to simply make a larger bull centaur.

We know you guys have been waiting for this for a long time.
Touching down for the first time at Warhammer Fest, we present, the Stormbird.
More exciting First Access news for Warhammer Fest, the Sokar Pattern Stormbird can be yours before it's on general release!
+++ This is Servitor station 847/628. Ident verified. Scanning your vessel now.
Due to ongoing xenos incursions, be advised that all Stormbirds are being rerouted to primary landing pads in Sector Alpha-Five. Proceed with caution; expect heavy enemy fire enroute +++

Gotta get me some DG dice! They'll still suck, since they are coming out of my hands, but they'll look cool doing so. At least the symbols are on 6s now
I like the name of the Stormbird. I can picture the meeting...
FW employee 1: "So what are we calling the new Space Marine flyer?"
FW employee 2: "Well it's Space Marine, so it has to start with something related to inclement weather, like Thunder- or Storm-.... then the second half has to be bird related"

That meeting would have had to have pre-dated FW by quite a few years though, right?

Yeah the Stormbird has been in the fluff for a long long time.
We can also announce that Games Workshop’s newly appointed Middle-earth team will be showcasing their projects at Warhammer Fest.
AND you'll get First Access to formerly out-of- production products like all five The Lord of The Rings TM Sourcebooks and several absent Citadel miniatures! We're revealing more soon...

Ooooh. Those Sourcebooks are going to sell fast, and I imagine a ton will end up on Ebay.
Hopefully the public gets its first look at mounted Dain

So it was the Stormbird that led to the naming of the Storm talon, Storm Eagle, Storm Raven? That's really not a hell of a lot better
I already have a thunderhawk that has made 2 games in 5 years due to the size so not interested in the storm bird. However that landingpad!!! At last I can use my TH as scenery lol
If they had some Iron warriors dice I would pay someone to pick me up a set. Like the the claw and plasma annihilator are out, definitely want the play around with the claw as a start to my own warlord.

Agreed. I'd pay someone to pick them up so fast said persons head would spin!

Browsing galleries of expertly painted miniatures is always inspiring.
We’ve just created a new website to let you view the winners from the world’s most prestigious Warhammer painting competition: Golden Demon.
The entries for 2013 are in there now, but they will soon be joined by more from previous years, and of course, we’ll update it after Warhammer Fest so you can have a good old gawp at the winners.

I will almost have my titan fully built and painted by the time that plasma came out its been that long.
This just looks like a chubby Thunderhawk. I like it. It looks slightly more practical as a design than the Thunderhawk.
But it's way too small to be a Stormbird based on how the Stormbird has been described.
It's a Sokar(spelling) pattern Stormbird. It's a transition between the original Stormbird and a thunderhawk of 40K. I doubt we will ever see a true stormbird as that used to carry a companys worth of troops and vehicles.
Kind of like how the Macharius is also referred to as a second generation Baneblade. It has the same rough capabilities and battlefield role as a Baneblade (although is somewhat inferior, except in mass-producibility), and is considered a successor.
The Stormbird also pre-dated the union with Mars, and doesn't fall under it's tech monopoly, so I imagine there was also considerable scope in it's design and variation too.
I suspect in this case it's much less "these are different patterns and we're making both" and more "we like the concept of the Stormbird but a 40k-scale model would not be practical, so here's an excuse for why this new version of the Stormbird exists". I would be very surprised if we ever see a "big" Stormbird matching the older fluff.

I mean, I don't see why not. It wouldn't be bigger than a Manta, surely. And people were saying the same thing about the Warlord just a couple of years ago.
I just want more Death Korps...
Especially a DKoK Special Character (yes i know about marshall bloke in IA12, what i mean is a special character with a model)
Warhammer Fest is less than a week away. I’ve been showing you plenty of new products that’ll be available for the first time at the event, and there’s still more! Take a look at the latest unit to roll off the production lines of the Mechanicum…
The Mechanicum Ursurax are deadly close combat units that blast into the fray with their inbuilt jump packs, smashing and tearing at the enemy with Power Fists and Lightning Claws and burning them to cinders with their chest mounted Volkite Incinerators.
The Ursurax will be available first at Warhammer Fest, and soon after on the Forge World web store.
There’s just a few days left to get your tickets for Warhammer Fest, so get order yours now!
While the lightning claws are perhaps a bit comically oversized, they do look good, the heads in particular give them a more aggressive look than their ranged brethren.
Jesus wept - FW give it a break!! More awesome AdMech stuff I really want to get a brush too..... enough already!! Away n design some stuff for 'nids or someething. My poor wallet is shivering in the corner like a beaten dog, bless it
Welp. I am going to need at least six ursarax. This is unfortunate as I have absolutely zero use for them, as nobody near me is interested in 30k.
C'mon Forgeworld, now's the time for you to release "Imperial Armor: The Guys Who Would Actually Have All The Relic Technology Not The Freakin Ignorant Space Maroons"
In case anyone wonders what the extra-extra prizes were in the Titan contest, the Knight Scion crewman my dad just gave me with a wink answers that question.
I don't remember seeing them before this, and I follow these events very closely (ask my girlfriend, I'm like a kid on Christmas. Can't wait til next weekend!) however, I have been wrong before!
I'm hoping the options for fists come with them though.
Better hurry up and release these as I'll take 3 packs
Looks to me like there's two sets of claws and one set of fists in that picture on the Forge World blog; two sets of long, curved, sharp talons vs one pair of stubby blunt fingers….
Thanks, just had a closer look and your right.
The front one's fingers are shorter with the gripped type flat section at the tip.
Rather than the long curved blades.
Either way I'll have to use magnets as I'm bound to swap and change as I go anyway.
Over the last couple of weeks we’ve show you a whole host of the new releases that’ll be available for the first time at Warhammer Fest, and here they all are in one place.
If you’d like any of these amazing models before anyone else than make sure you’re at Warhammer Fest this weekend. Tickets are available on the door, and you can find more information HERE.
Make sure you check back later this week, I hear there’s still more to come!
25 pounds for 1 terminator lolz......so that would be roughly $37.......for 1 miniature that is just a generic character....
Just wondering who would/will actually buy said horribly overpriced miniature.
Its like FW price on decals-- 16 pounds = about $24/25+ the shipping charges to the US for 1 single decal sheet. I can get whole packs of decal sheets for most other systems for easily half that.
The FW stuff looks nice at times but they are so horribly overpriced compared to anything else on the market its not even funny. GW/FW wonder why sales are low well, when price gouging like this, that's why.
Does FW sell "even-only" models at their store for years while the stocks last or just for that one year? I am thinking about booking a connecting flight with British Aiways on my way to Europe so I could have at least 12 hours to visit FW store.
Also, is the Stormbird bigger than the Thunderhawk? The price says it's bigger.

Don't know about previous years, but Warhammer World FB said " at Warhammer World wehave the Forge World and Black Library stores on hand... where we do have some of the event items available even when there's not an event taking place on site."

Yes it is - more HP, more transport capacity and higher points cost.

If you're flying BA I assume you'd transit through Heathrow? The FW store is in Nottingham, if I were driving that I'd expect at least 2 1/2 hours each way, possibly almost double on public transport, plus your stopover may not dovetail neatly with the standard working day/train or bus timetables.
It's probably doable, but don't think it's as simple as hopping on the tube for 30 mins. IME people from North America look at the distances involved and don't appreciate how long it can take to get around the Uk because of our high population density.

Yeah, I agree, probably closer to 3 hours, more if you hit Birmingham in rush hour. It may actually be quicker by train if the timings line up. Bus would be cheapest but take something like 6 hours one way most likely. If you were to get a flight into Birmingham International or Robin Hood airport you would have a much better time of it, otherwise, there would probably be more travelling than time spent in Warhammer World.

YESSS!!! All the marine players are going to get shot down! Muahah! Tears! Looks like FW heard the Tau fans begging for some Railweapon options on their stuff since GW ignored our pleas. The Railgun and HRR might be good if they were ever found on anything other than the Broadsides and Hammerheads.

Watch, it'll be a poor maneuvering brick and an Attack Flyer so the Stormhawk and Crimson Hunter will wreck it without any fear of retaliation.

Top Gun not ring any bells?
Wing turrets have what appear to be:
2x Auto-targeting Burst Cannon - 18" 5/5/Assault 4\Auto-targeting: Weapons with this special rule ignore any cover saves or cover save bonuses provided by the Supersonic or Jink special rules, as well as any provided by moving Flat Out.
I would think they would be the standard weapons or can be swapped for
Cyclic Ion Rakers (because of their size - I wouldn't think they were CIBs)
(overchrg) 24" 8/4/Heavy 1, Large Blast, Gets Hot
(std) 24" 7/4/Assault 6
4 Seeker Missiles 72" 8/3/Heavy 1, One Use Only
Nose Gun -
I bet the standard weapon is a modified Heavy Burst Cannon 36" 6/4/Heavy 8, Rending
Ion Cannon (ovrchrg) 60" 8/3/Heavy 1, Gets Hot, Large Blast
Ion Cannon (std) 60" 7/3/Heavy 3
Still unanswered
- Each wing looks like it has a missile pod with 5 missiles.
- There appears to be a rear facing turret
- Based on the new flyer rules what kind of flyer will this be. Fighter or Ground attack
- Armor values and HP etc....
Please, no Attack Flyer. We already have the Razorshark for that, and Remoras aren't that much Fighter-y to begin with.
And I agree with you about the weapon configs. in ATT, the 'rear turret' has been considered to be some kind of thrust vector (Vector Dance on this beauty would be lovely).
Anyway, is so beautiful. My Heart claims for 4 of them!
I was so gutted when the old one went OOP, it was a lovely and practical model and I wanted another, but this exceeds my wildest dreams for a redesign!
Automatically Appended Next Post: With regards to the weapons, the old one had a forward facing twin-linked missile pod, so I guess they kept that option (I don't think there's quite enough missiles for it to be upgraded to a HYMP). If that is a turret on the back I'd guess at a twin-linked smart missile system, which would be kind of useless, but hey.

Useless because the str and Ap or because its rear facing? If its because its rear facing, doesn't the homing rule, and its ignore line of sight ability mean that as long as the weapon is in range it wouldn't matter what the facing was?
It's S5/AP5 and if mounted on the rear face as a defensive weapon it will be going against front armour on most other fliers, which is generally 11 or 12, so not particularly useful.

The Barracuda doesn't look like much of a Fighter. It is a bit bulky for that. Time will tell. But they don't seem to just be giving people Fighters just to check a box.
This is literally just a resculpt of the existing barracuda with some additional weapon options. pretty sure there is nk rear turret, looks more like a vectored thrust nozzle.

Holy gak, that new barracuda was beautiful! I was pretty sure they were updating it when they took it down, but I thought it was going to be a basic cast update, nothing this awesome!
It looks exactly like how I dreamed a Tau A-10 inspired aircraft would look and its getting a lot of positive buzz out there.
Now if GW doesn't make Tau a hovering flyer then you should do it FW. Make one inspired by the Apache Gunship + Comanche Gunship + M-28 Hind + That sleek Tau look. A sexy sleek Tau version of the Vendetta. You will literally sell so much of this model. Give it some awesome ground attack options.
A second version could be the transport version of the Tau Gunship.
Finally we should get an equivalent of a super heavy flyer that can be the equivalent to the AC-130. Bristling from the side of this would be a Pulse Ordinance Gun from the Stormsurge, a long range Ion Cannon, and a long range Heavy Burst Cannon. Has two networked ML and comes with Nightvision by default. It would be classified as a "bomber" despite not being a traditional one.
The Barracuda, in it's old fluff, was an air superiority fighter, and considered roughly on par with the Thunderbolt by the Imperium (used to cost 5pts more than a Thunderbolt). Also, having a large rotary cannon doesn't make a plane an A-10- many modern fighters also use a rotary cannon as their close-in weapon, although some use chain guns or revolver cannon. So I really hope it doesn't get made into an Attack flyer.
I would imagine it is still the Air Superiority fighter of the Tau Empire as they still have the AX-1-0 Tiger Shark to use as their dedicated ground support.
Or they have made it a Multi-Role Aircraft, capable of Air Superiority, and Strike roles. Which would be dependent on upgrades.
I still feel it's still the most air superiority of all the Tau fighters as well. Even if you use DftS rules it only gets -1BS when firing at ground targets. So it could still turn out great.
I doubt we'll see DftS become mainstream they just aren't well thought out enough.
The old barracuda functioned well as both, missiles pods and regular ion shots for fighters, overcharged ion shot for ground troops. Although most of the tau's anti-air comes in the form of skyrays and missile-sides.

Oh boy, you have possibly missed out on the best Tau song ever made.
I realize its a generally high price, but I'm not sure what you expected? A Fellblade is what £170? -This is pretty close to two fellblades stacked on each other in size, and unlike that kit this doesn't make use of an underlying set of plastic parts.
I hate that the Ta'unar even exists, but I do love the weapons for it. I wonder what the thing on the left shoulder paired with the railgun is supposed to be. At first I thought it was like a heat sink, but it looks more like some kind of cluster rocket launcher to me.
The new barracuda's cool, I want a pair of them. But for some reason I think I liked the old one more (I wish I still had mine, would be a cool wing leader maybe)...I think I liked it better with the single stabilizer in the back instead of the two slanted ones it has now. Still a great-looking model.
Oh sweet, and now there's a blight drone before it became a blight drone.
@ Yaraton The fw store only sells event only models from the current year, they don't sell previous years models.
If you have an office or friends/family in London, I don't mind posting you some bits down so you can collect it there. I regularly go to whw so it isn't an imposition.
I want those Ta'unars and Barracuda in my life.. ;-; how is FW products for quality these days? As I remember way back when doing Elysians I found them to at times be a bit hit and miss and as such never really wanted to buy the bigger scale products.
*urge to start Skitarii rising* That and carry on with my Tau. Been trying to avoid 40k really with the state of the rules but the models and story are just so damned alluring.
While I suppose that he could have just named the design without being interred in one, it's interesting to see the Culln dreadnought. He started as a sergeant, went to commander, and then chapter master in the previous FW books and might now be in a dreadnought given the name. (Unless I'm missing some fluff about the Red Scorpions and a hereditary "Culln" name)

No, Culln just gets promoted every time the Red Scorpions get a book.
Hope the Barracuda comes out the same time as the Warlord parts, or within a week or two. That may be my order right there.
The plastic GW knight is perfect for the Knight Paladin/Errant. This new Acastus however you say it is the classic Crusader/Castellan version.
They're certainly not trying to hide that the Red Scorpions clearly have a very strong possibility of coming directly from one of the Legions. Just look at all the toys they've got: MkIV armor almost across the board, IA2 shows them with a relic Scorpius, now we see them with a Mastodon, they apparently had a spare Leviathan just lying around to put Culln into, previous pics of the new IA show a Kharybdis in RS colors. Most later foundings are considered lucky to have just one or two such relics, and the RS seem to have as many as the actual first founding chapters themselves.
First off, that ain't no knight, it's a titan lol... Trump style UUUUGGGGEEE.
Really wish they had sculpted Russ with a wilder mane and some kind of facial hair, be it beard or wolverine chops or something. Overall though looks great. For the rest, seems mostly just bits additions or minor alterations to existing design, no so excited by it.

Logically, second founding should have parity on heresy era toys with first founding.
Deployed to the planet to use the forge world as a main port of call against the naughty hive fleet.
Culln got a good kickin' previously. So they drilled his remains into a walking metal coffin. As is tradition.

They talked about so many books I lost track. No firm dates were given. One of them will be ready for the next Open Day.
So is there a fluffy reason for why Red Scorpions have all this Legion gear then?
From what I've seen, the entire chapter is supposed to be deployed, relics and all. I reckon, these relic weapons will get army list entries for your standard codex...

Not exactly. They don't acknowledge a founding chapter, nor do they venerate a particular Primarch, and none of the usual suspects admit to a link, which means they were someone's special project. Temperamentally they are friendly with the Inquisition, obsessed with purity, emphasise infantry, refuse cover, and disdain witchery so there's a decent chance they descend from tithed Death Guard geneseed and may be way older than people think.
But it's far more likely that Forge World will never acknowledge or address this, because they feed on fanboy intrigue and frustration in the same way Khorne feeds on rage.
Copied from the BL thread the now official Alpharius and Dorn concept art from the upcoming BL book cover
As an AL collector I am not impressed by the Mk II backpack and the Pale Spear which was supposed to be an alien-origin artifact but looks like a Sorcerer's staff.
So much yes on these guys. It look like they are armred with a man sized vestion of the lance gun the Knight lancer uses. I can't wait to see the WIP of the other guys get finished.
Culln makes me really want some Relic or Legion variants of Leviathans now. Those massive frames really suit decoration.
As for the Scorpions deploying them, it could have something to do with their fluff; modern Chapters do have relics from their Legion days, but they're treated with particular dread due to the tendency of the Leviathan's ill-understood subsystems to drive the occupant insane. The Scorpions, or Culln himself, may have less compunction about doing so. That said, I'd love to see a Minotaurs one someday.
Let me guess the plot for the new IA book. The Tau invade a Forge World. Then FW specific Imperial armies come in to beat them back. The Imperium loses, takes heavy losses and we get a ton of awesome new resin crack.
All in all, the new Tau and Ad Mech stuff look pretty cool. The Red Scorpions is more Spehs Muhreens but, hey, you can never have enough Spess Muhreens.
Haighus wrote: Yeah, there is an unfortunate Imperial Armour hierarchy going something like Xenos>Imperium>Chaos/renegades which persists throughout their books.
Well, unless it's the eldar, who only get to have pyrrhic victories.
Vraks ended in a pyrrhic victory for the Imperium. I mean, they won, but the cost was so high with nothing gained from it, may as well have been a loss.
Well forgeworld let me down big time this year. The flyer looks like it is from transformers 1888 and the mechanus models are as sifi 1860 as ever, just need a robot with pipe cleaner arms screaming danger and it be perfect. Guess I will just buy another reaver titan.

I didn't even know they had Transformers in the 19th century. Were they steamships in disguise?

Gamgee wrote: Your right. I didn't know the XV9 were so big. The one on the right is and the one on the left is a Y'vahrah.
They aren't. Obviously they're just two pieces of artwork side by side, like those color plates from GW codices, and aren't being displayed in the correct scale. The XV9 is either scaled up or the other is scaled down.

Yeah exactly. The colour plates like this are always separate in the books so they're all the same scale as there's nothing else with them to show size normally, and they're just the same size as each other here to fit on the slide.

Holy crap, only £80 for the new Barracuda?! The old version was only about £75, so only marginal increase price for all that extra goodness; I'll take 3 please!
Not entirely off base.
Let's just say if there's any photos of Warhammer fest's cosplay commissars around the net, you'll not struggle to work out which is me.

Is that a TARDIS I can see reflected in the glass?
That's my phone case. It gets around. It's on several of Games Workshop's social media posts and photos because I tend to leave it laying around Warhammer World during tournaments.
After I took these photos, a nice guy walked up and said he was a games developer who was looking to work on a game of a more epic scale. Because we'd been cooing at the big guns, he asked if we knew about the larger models and if we gamed. Had a nice conversation with four of us giving feedback on that. He asked many other people I'm certain.
We said that one of the most important parts as gamers, regardless of platform was the ability to build an army, not be given a set bunch of things to use.
Alpharius wrote: Iron Circle Domitar Ferrum Battle Automata: £52?
One Iron Circle bot costs £52?
How many are in Perturabo's full guard?
No idea why, but part of me wants to say 7. The Iron Circle model is huge btw - there's a pic floating around somewhere of one next to a space marine, and it's about twice the height, if not a little more.
That is big, but at near $80 each, well, that just about scuttled my plan for an Iron Warriors force focused around the Primarch, his Circle and...some other stuff.
I feel your pain. :( Maybe it'd be a project to lovingly work on/collect over the course of a few years? I'm waiting for that overly wealthy someone to post pics of a beautifully painted Perturabo surrounded by a bunch of Iron Circle, myself...
I believe you only need 4 in order to get the special bonuses his personal Iron Circle retinue gets. You can probably still have him attached to a smaller unit like a normal IWIC.
Alpharius wrote: That is big, but at near $80 each, well, that just about scuttled my plan for an Iron Warriors force focused around the Primarch, his Circle and...some other stuff.
It's a high price but perfectly consistent given its size. It's practically Contemptor sized and it's a legion specific units; if there weren't a general premium on that size of model already they'd have likely charged more.
Anyone want to take some guesses on the Heavy Railgun Array and Meteor missile stats of the new weapons?
I think its obvious the new HRA will be a single target D weapon but anything else? Seems like a waste to have only a single shot so might be a few.
As for the missiles I can't even fathom. The default pulse ordinance array is already wide area attack with massive blasts. And they don't look like they have volume of fire like other models that pack missiles.
