Yeah I've been waiting for TSons stuff for years now and have held off on buying the FW kits until now for them to be released. Turns out the the 3rd party stuff out there has much more variety and better sculpt quality.
I am sure that the characters and specialist units will be better but everything they have shown so far has been pretty lacking. I may still spring for the contemptor but I get the feeling that with a bit of plasticard and gs even I as an inexperienced sculptor could make something more impressive!
anyone thinking that they would look better with a blue and gold paint scheme? I'm unsure on the timeline when they changed the livery so it might not be a bad idea?
badgermeister wrote: anyone thinking that they would look better with a blue and gold paint scheme? I'm unsure on the timeline when they changed the livery so it might not be a bad idea?
Sadly I think that change is after the heresy and has to do with the rubric. The 1ksons who left with the banished ahriman painted their armour blue.
I don't mind being corrected if that's wrong tho. Because i think that would look nice also.
Joyboozer wrote: The TS contemptor looks like it was sculpted for plastic release rather than resin.
How do you figure? Does resin receive details differently?
Resin turns out a lot 'sharper' than plastic - hence why there was so much love for the Alpha Legion bits released - where the individual scales could be seen.
The TS contemptor's chest looks...flat really. The smooth surfaces and almost bland appearance does seem to suggest that was designed for plastic rather than resin. For resin would would have expected either a lot more details (hieroglyphics perhaps?) or a lot more angular details.
I mean, I like the head, I like the 'boxy' idea they are going with...the chest is just unimpressive and the crest on the contemptor is...meh.
Also, the cruel irony of the TS upgrade set only making 5 where everyone else makes 10. Yeah, it's nice to include the other shoulder but...at the same time that's sort of useless depending on the fluff and art to be released in terms of squad markings etc.
I don't think everyone has a scarab on the right shoulder...

It makes 10 (10 heads, 10 left pads, 10 right pads).
Plus it's the Achean sect of the chapter, whose symbol is a scarab.
The other TS upgrade bundle (the normal one) released a while ago has the more generic parts (10 heads that are different to these ones, 10 bodies and 10 pads).

My bad. Was actually looking more at the shoulders seperately. Also completely forgot about the other set too - sort of baffled me why my page was filled with Thousand Sons stuff when I was certain they already released it.
Just finding it really odd that they have a second upgrade set for what is essentially a Company Marking - which apparantly forgoes any sort of tactical markings or squad markings. Meh.
Part of me feels these individual chapter markings might have been better off on a fancy Transfer sheet (and in the place of these silly shoulder pads maybe giving them a fancier, more ornate torso compared to the other 1k Sons torso set?)
Ok that 5 & 5 shoulder set is strange. Didn't even realise that was a thing.
They probably would have been better off on a transfer sheet, but then again I know many people (including myself) would prefer to have both shoulders sculpted or both painted/decalled, so they're probably doing this to capitalise on that.
In looking over the various legion specific Contemptors they've done, the level of detail and "bling" is comparable to two or three other legions. Not every legion vomits legion specific bling all over their dreads, and some is simply going to be more understated than others. I think the chest decoration is just about right, for an Egyptian style scarab and wings. The head nicely echoes the TS head packs, the crest is a nice call out to the 40kTS, as well as looking like an earlier version of the mid-Heresy dread from the old HH card game's depiction of the dreadnought "Khontackht". The shoulder and leg banding matches the style of the Achaen shoulder pads, nicely formed scarabs and TS star symbols on the shoulders and knees, and there's a nice cohesiveness going on between the sides of the lower legs and the "belly" armor plate.
For some things FW sells, pictures have names "something01" or even "something1a". Does it meat there is at least another variant of that thing or this how FW photographers mark their sets of photographs?

Armillus Dynat 01
ALPHA LEGION RHINO DOORS 1a
Alpha Legion Mk IV Torsos 01

Sounds like more alpha legion trickery to me
Still not sure how i feel about the Thousand Sons, i agree that some hieroglyphics or something would've been cool - if they made them less chaotic looking than the WB stuff, but still relied on the same aesthetic appeal

I read on another forum that the Thousand Sons transfer sheet will have transfers specifically to fit in the oval shaped recesses on the Contemptors legs (I'm guessing like Cartouches). Transfers should be able to help with things like hieroglyphics and the like.
IRON WITHIN…
The Forge World Studio have not been shy about releasing deadly robots and mechanical constructs onto the battlefields of The Horus Heresy, from waist high servo-automata to colossal Titans. I just caught sight of the latest addition to their ranks, this one programmed to defend the Lord of Iron himself!
I hear that you might even be able to get hold of this brutal machine at Warhammer Fest in May. Grab your tickets for this awesome event whilst you can!
I vaguely remember seeing when the unit entry was first spoiled that the Iron Circle are an Elites choice - not sure if that's for all armies, or only for Iron Warriors. But if so, they should be useable in an Alpha Legion force.

In the grim darkness of Stark's future, there is only war...
AL has "The Rewards of Treason" Rite of War when they can take a single Legion-specific unit allowed only to other Legions for the same price with the special equipment and rules but not the parent Legion Astartes rules which are substituted with Alpha Legion's own. Also AL can't take special characters and unique units.

So is that a 'no' then?
Or a 'yes'?
Because I'm OK with buying Perturabo too, but I'm also OK with not buying him!
Matt.Kingsley wrote: When the rules were previewed at the event a few months ago I don't remember seeing Unique anywhere on their profile.

They're not Unique. However, their Moving Bulwark rule only allows Iron Warriors characters to join the unit.
Well the best thing about them is that you dont need a Cortex Controller near them so ill just infiltrate them and go attack a primarch with them or something

Perfect. I'll just switch their hammers for swords and add them to the DA sword and board army I am trying to conjure up.
Im sure they would look cool but...
How would you field them?
Castellax with power blades is a no (as they have 2 power blades)
and Iron Circle is a no as you play DA The only thing i can think of is a shattered legions army
hotsauceman1 wrote: So yes Alpha legion can take them
No they cannot be joined?
One of the legion consuls has a rule allowing it to join units of MCs, but it would not benefit from the Moving Bulwark rule, as that explicitly states Iron Warriors characters.
They are not "Unique" as in only one of them in the world, which is what would prevent Alpha Legion taking them (see named dreadnoughts and characters)
They are an Iron Warrior Special unit.
So Alpha Legion with their rite of war can take them by stealing them
Wait, I thought you 30K guys didn't believe in allies or other 40K-esque shenanigans? Now all I see are a bunch of people trying to figure out how to get an IW unit into their non-IW army? For shame. Before you know it, you'll be talking formations, free wargear, and xenos filth

They do look very cool, but a lot bigger than I expected - maybe that pic is throwing me, but aren't they going to dwarf Perturabo a bit? Just seems odd aesthetically to have a Primarch dwarfed by his bodyguards.

The primarchs are all pretty large compared to regular space marines, and Perturabo especially since he's standing on that gigantic base of a wrecked Knight.

Of my three (works in progress) 30k legions, I only have an interest in taking the Iron Circle in Alpha Legion, and for the same reason why I want to take any other Legion's special units. Because trolling with a huge grin on my face.

They're Monstrous Creatures, it would be a bit silly for them to be small.

No, it's still a better game played by better people.

You can definitely detect a very elitist attitude among some 30k players. "Our hobby is being invaded by 40k players who all just want to win, only joined because of how cheap Betrayal at Calth is, and who don't take the same pride in the modelling side of the experience" is a sentiment that I have seen unironically expressed before now. It is very, shall we say, unappealling to see, and manages to combine multiple kinds of sneering into one sentence, much like how I imagine George Osbourne gets after three pints. It also sits very poorly with my experience in local 40k tournaments, where some truly beautiful armies are being piloted by people with razor-sharp lists. Happily not everyone in the 30k scene is like that - but, sadly, the ones who are seem to like telling everyone their views.
(Similar attitudes can be seen being expressed by all sides of the AoS/9th Age/Kings of War divide, where those who picked alternative games are felt to be defective in understanding the true heart of the hobby - variously defined for this purpose. God forbid that you allow others to just enjoy their chosen game, amirite?)

You get this in absolutely anything in life. I've seen some of this in 30k players, and I dislike it as much as the next guy, but its not like its unique to 30k players (or AoS/9th Age etc). It happens everywhere; see the constant bickering between certain people in the 40k and WMH communities.

Maybe if you stepped *UP* to 30K, you'd see what the view is like at this altitude.

I was actually thinking Castellax with power blades indeed and just keep the shield purely for aesthetic reasons. I mean sure it's not strictly WYSIWYG but I'm way too interested in those babies not to try it. And I'll just take something else as a backup plan if the opponent doesn't like the idea.
The iron circle will be out soon enough have you tried a proxy or just waiting for the model? Man, Will they be sweet.
Maybe you can get early release and have someone attending pick you up some. Buddy used the plastic Kastalan Robots as proxy but compared to the FW model they don't hold a candle.
gorgon wrote: The weapons is where things can add up.
Imagine being a WE player and needing all those chainaxes. Even if you go third party alternative, it still really adds up.
Yeah, the special weapons pack would be mitigated by being able to spread the contents out through a few squads. But since I have a stupid number of plastic Cataphractii squads to build and outfit, I got a total of four of the special weapons packs.
I'm going to have to seriously decide which plastic C. Termies are going to other armies (such as 40k Salamanders, conversions for Legion of the Damned, Deathwing, etc) so I can at least narrow down how many Alpha Legion shoulder pad packs I'll need.
Zuul wrote: I'm probably in the minority of folks what were underwhelmed by the new pads. I feel they are the work of a pretty inexperienced designer.
What makes you say that? There's very little real estate to work with on those pads and everything looks iconic and recognizable. How do you think they should be different?
I think the thing that bother me are the overly thick plate rims on the inner side. They look easily twice as thick as the flanges on standard cataphratii upper shoulder pads. Another thing that's bugging me is the manner the iconography was modelled on. On many of them it looks like they look like they took the 2d iconography and just extruded it and stuck it on. To put into perspective, I've seen sophmore level Industrial Design students make much higher quality CAD models than those used to produce these.
Things like the pads need to look good, but also need to be reliably and repeatedly cast/manufactured.
There are many 3D sculpts on Shapeways and other sites where the renders look great, but the actual print is terrible and they cost more than the FW ones (and I know I'm comparing apples and carrots comparing FW resin to a 3D print )
Does anyone know anything about the progress of the Titan contest? The last entry day was 18 days ago, and while I know my odds of victory are slim to say the least, I am still loath to buy one manually while a chance of winning one still exists.

"The Panel of Judgment will begin their deliberations on the 4th April 2016 (GMT). The winners will be notified by the 2nd May 2016 by the email address which is registered with their Forge World web store account."
The time of truth is here. The Forge World Panel of Judgment have finished their deliberations and made their final decisions. We’ll be revealing the winners over the next four days, right here in this bulletin.
Today we disclose the winner of the first of two Warhound Titans. Our first winner is Ross D of Windsor, UK. Well done Ross, your story has earned you a Warhound Titan!
Ross wrote of the fall and rise of the Warhound Titan Hate Nail. Read his winning story below:
Roaming the desolate tech wastes of the decimated Forgeworld from which it was raised, the Warhound titan known as Hate Nail carries with it a trail of bloodshed and woe stretching back through the ages.
Constructed in late M35. on the demi-Forgeworld of Ceciditas as tithe to their greater masters on further, more dominant Forgeworlds, the Warhound Titan originally named Priusex Plures was crafted by the tech-priests of Ceciditas attempted to prove their skill at production in order to elevate the status of their Forgeworld and thus to be elevated amongst the ranks of their brothers afar, the first war machine of such size to be created on their world.
The initial success of their creation was not to last however, for even as tech-priests revelled in the glory of their creation the ever pressing presence of chaos drew its eye upon their world, seeping through the veil, drawn by the pride that riled, unchecked through their hearts & minds.
As the effort of the worlds’ labour began to bear fruit, a terrible affliction engulfed the world, spreading a demonic data plague that boiled the machine spirits of those engines that had once been loyal servants to the Omnissiah. Now loyal creations turned upon their masters and slaughtered them without mercy, the blood of tech-priests flowed freely through the halls of their hallowed factories. In their desperation the tech priests unleashed their newly completed war machine, but in their haste they failed to observe the proper rights of benediction before sending the Titan to lead their remaining legions to war and salvation. Without the true benediction from the Omnissiah, the machine-spirit of the titan was open to the corrupting forces of chaos and the inhabiting tech-priests watched helplessly as their favoured creation turned against them, massacring the population and tearing down the forges of its birth. The last harrowing message that left the world proclaimed that the titan fed the daemons at its core on the corpses of those it killed and devoured.
Now the workshop cities of Ceciditas are now little more than desolate wastelands of blood red sands, the ruins of a once mighty world haunted by Cybernetic-daemons that feast upon the scavenging traders or lost travellers unwary enough to explore the factory deserts of the world, led by the mightiest predator in their midst’s, the daemon titan now proclaiming itself only as Hate Nail.
Congratulations again to Ross. Make sure you come back tomorrow to find out who’s won the next Titan!
That story was garbage. You can't unscrew a nut without a prayer in 40k, yet they have managed to build a whole Titan without blessing it at the end, knowing full well that it suppose to fight Chaos. I don't see any logic here. FW staff is on drugs.

Someone is mad jelly.
Congrats to Ross D of Windsor, UK. I hope you're a Dakkanaught.
If the all knowing all seeing emperor can 'loose' all his precious primarks because he didn't properly protect them from chaos
I'm sure a 3rd rate forgeworld run by a bunch of AM juiced up on pride, and already under attack (and no doubt more subtle influence from the warp) can forget the rituals (or think, Oh we'll do them later after we've driven off these monsters)

It's well written.
The name is a bit WTF and AoS-y, but he is a better English writer than me (DUH, he is English) so he won.
'Tis all fair.
Oh, that sound? That is just me silently screaming prayers against all odds that I may be one of the remaining three.
One Titan has already been claimed, today we announce the winner of our second Warhound Titan.
Today’s winner is Sam G of Manchester, UK. Congratulations Sam, you’ve won yourself a Warhound Titan!
Sam’s story tells of the glory of the Warlord Titan Melody of Rapture.
A proud engine of the Legio Crucius, the titan given the designation Melody of Rapture bears lineage to the famed Dominus Lux, a Nightgaunt class Warlord which served as the principle engine of Battlegroup Circe, alongside the Blood Angel’s Primary Expeditionary Fleet.
The battlegroup met their end against an ork scrap-stronghold on Purgatia Secundus. Here, the greenskins had created a nightmarish amalgamation of several thousand war machines; this so called ‘extinction engine’ dwarfed even the mighty Imperator class in stature and potency. Battlegroup Circe’s task was to disable the gargant's shields at range, to allow a strike force led by the Primarch Sanguinius, to board and destroy it from within.
The attack did not begin well - the enemy’s shields were discovered to be far more powerful than anticipated. Realising their offensive was stalling, the battlegroup formed up to engage at point blank range.
It was then that the titans of the battlegroup began to die - blasted apart by the overwhelming firepower of the gargant and its ground support. Soon, only Dominus Lux remained; her hull aflame and her gun barrels warping from charge-cores that were dangerously close to catastrophic overload. Defiant to the last, her warhorn boomed a mournful dirge and her weapons roared in rage at the deaths of her lesser kin. With a last surge of effort, Dominus Lux closed the distance and delivered a blow from her arioch claw that finally brought low the gargant's shields, allowing Sanguinius and his sons to board and carry the day, but not before Dominus Lux was dealt a deathblow that shattered her armoured carapace and annihilated her bridge section.
At the battle's conclusion, Sanguinius remarked that the sound of the engine’s final moments was ‘...a dolorous symposium; akin to the melody of rapture itself...’ And that their sacrifice would be honoured as ‘…befitting their glorious martyrdom.’
Afterwards, elements of the Dominus Lux were recovered and re-forged anew. Anointed Melody of Rapture, the titan’s honour pennant bears a solitary stylised blood drop, rumoured to have been imbued with a single measure of blood from Sanguinius himself. Testimonials given by the XXVIIth Arkharion Grenadiers during later campaigns suggests that the warriors of the IXth Legion fought all the harder whilst under the Melody's shadow; though whether this is in deference to the sacrifice of her forbearers, or the potential proximity to the holy blood of their angel Primarch is unknown.
A great story Sam, and it’s won you a Titan, congratulations!
How did your story compare to our first two winners? Come back tomorrow to find out if you’ve won a massive Reaver Titan.
I was planning to buy sigismund, Badab War and couple Blood Raven transfer sheets until the sheets got pulled and I planned a holiday for 1st week of April, couldn't justify it
Over the last two days we’ve announced the winners of a pair awesome Warhound Titans. The winners wrote fantastic stories, but today we’re revealing who’s won an incredible Reaver Titan!
The great story that’s won today was written by Aaron F of Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA. Well done Aaron, your writing has won you a Reaver Titan!
Aaron wrote about the birth of Titan Belligerence.
Hold Manufactorum Boreas for 48 hours…
That was the last order from legion command, and that was 65 hours ago.
Phaeton, Centurio Secundus of the Imperial Fists Legion, watched helplessly as the last Fire Raptor tumbled from the sickly yellow sky, belching black smoke from its torn fuselage. The daemon-titan was inexorable. Each unholy plasma blast was a roiling cacophony of daemonic laughter that left smoldering ruin in its wake. The behemoth pivoted and fired again, sending shards of rockcrete and shattered armour showering across the outer sanctum. From his vantage on platform L9-4, Phaeton scanned several Iron Warriors already pushing through the new breach.
“All squads to quaternary positions. Basilisk fire at zero-nine-seven.” The Fists were selling blood to buy valuable seconds in a one-sided battle. The daemon-titan had ravaged the subsector like a god opposed by insects, and although the Mechanicus had promised deliverance, it had not come; the manufactorum’s destruction seemed inevitable.
“Repel the enemy with vengeance! We fight to the last!” The Centurion locked a fresh magazine into his bolter, and opened fire. Phaeton and his battle-brothers were making their final, desperate stand.
***
A raspy mechanical hymn reached a crescendo inside the primary hangar of Manufactorum Boreas. The colossal chamber was filled with tech-priests, scaffolding, and writhing clouds of incense. Archmagos 7769-6E ceremoniously anointed the last metal hallux of the fledgling titan with rich, red blood and raised his gilded aspergillum in celebratory praise. The machine-prayer ceased.
After days of arduous ceremony, the rituals of awakening were now complete.
***
With a gentle spasm, Korvun Thurlis closed his eyes and became one with the god-machine that cradled him.
Welcome, Princeps.
The titan spoke to him for the first time as Thurlis saw the world through the eyes of a deity: smoke-muted light glinting off silver and crimson plating, tech-adepts scurrying below, and the sealed hangar doors ahead... Holorunes rapidly flickered across his god-sight, rendering the devastation in the outer sanctum.
“The daemon dies today,” Thurlis merely echoed his war engine’s insatiable desire to lay waste to its traitorous machine-kin, “you shall be salvation!”
Salvation is provisional, Princeps. Violence solves everything.
As the young titan took its first monumental step, an angry tempest of gears and pistons boomed to life, bellowing the thunderous canticle of the Omnissiah. The hangar doors began to part, and the god-machine’s weapons reverberated with a deafening righteous fury.
I am Belligerence.
We really enjoyed your story Aaron, and it’s earned you a Reaver Titan!
There’s one more titan to be won, and it’s the biggest of all. Come back tomorrow and find out if you’re the winner of a colossal and devastating Warlord Titan.
I very much wish I had spent more time on mine, instead of rushing it at the last minute. Not that the result would have been any different - these stories are polished and really enjoyable to read!
Well that sucks monkey's balls. Of course with the final story like this I never had a chance. I should've let my imagination fly instead of being more concern with the 400 words.

Congrats to the first prize winner.
What's this 'last' business? They haven't announced the Warlord winner yet, have they? It's not on their blog yet….
AND THE WIINNER OF THE WARLORD TITAN IS...
Three titans have been won this week, and today we announce the biggest of all. Today’s winner will be receiving an immense Warlord Titan, it the first time we’ve ever given away something so huge!
The Warlord winning entry was written by Corey S of Rapid City, South Dakota, USA. That’s right Corey, we’re sending you a Warlord Titan!
The Forge World Panel of Judgement didn’t consider what class of Titan was featured in the stories they judged when they picked the winners, but it just happens the Cory wrote about a Warlord Titan; Iudex Ignes – Judgement of Fire:
The green horde amassed against Princeps Capprisahl had little to offer in the way of opposition. Not even the Gargant was a challenge. The fact that the green-skins thought this pitiful effigy to their gods could possibly threaten the mighty god-engine was infuriating. As the Gargant strode toward the newly commissioned Warlord Titan, Capprisahl commanded the Belicosa Volcano Cannon be brought against the beast, but he could feel the machine spirit’s defiance; the Warlord had a hot temper, and it didn't want to simply destroy the effigy.
It wanted to watch it burn.
The machine over-rode the Princeps' commands and instead leveled the Sunfury Plasma Annihilator against the Gargant. The momentary delay proved costly; the Gargant closed the distance between them, and its massive fist smashed away the Warlord’s weapon. In the confusion, Capprisahl took back control, taking a step backward while swinging the Volcano Cannon upward, intent on discharging its destructive payload point-blank into the Gargant’s face. The attack was thwarted as he was knocked off balance; the Gargant punched a hole the size of a Leman Russ in the Warlord’s side with its massive fist. The Gargant's fingers spread wide, locking the hand into place and revealing an opening in its palm and over a dozen Orks flooded out of the Gargant’s “Boarding Fist.”
The brief fight with the on-board Skitarii defenders barely slowed down the Orks and they quickly secured the engineering deck. Capprisahl could feel the Orks like a virus, his body temperature already rising to sweat them out. The Warlord mimicked him, ratcheting up its temperature to burn out the intruders.
Capprisahl swung the Volcano Cannon, smashing it down through the Gargant’s arm, severing it at mid-bicep. Simultaneously, the machine spirit twisted hard, smashing the Plasma Annihilator into the hollow stump of the newly severed arm, and unleashed a miniature sun directly into the Gargant’s hull. The resulting explosion washed fiery destruction over the Warlord and several kilometers of the battlefield. The blackened hull of the Warlord held as the plasma wave super-heated the Warlord’s interior, incinerating the Orks and the few remaining maintenance servitors.
The machine spirit was smug, and Capprisahl could feel it. He supposed that the Gargant had indeed burned, if only briefly. At any rate, the Waaagh!!! had broken – tested against the might of the Imperium and had fiery judgment visited upon it.
Congratulation again Corey, on your fantastic story and winning an immense Warlord Titan.
That’s all of the Titan’s won, but it’s not over yet! You sent us so many more fantastic stories than we were expecting, we’ve decided to send out even more prizes! Gary, Luke, Simon and Tris from the Forge World Customer Service team have been scouring through the best entries, and each picking their favourite. We’ll be sending each of these four runners-up a Cerastus Knight. Make sure you come back next week when we’ll be announcing who’s won.
Extra prizes eh ?
Good for them ! ... and good luck to all those who entered.
I greatly prefer the more understated wolf iconography and nordic/celtic infuences of the 30K wolves, rather than the flanderized mess they've become in 40k.
There should be some helms on the way (possibly with a smattering of bare heads in there)
ITT: I really, *really* like the torsos. They are amazingly awesome in their simplicity.
They really are awesome, not like some of the others that feel rushed. I would assume that helmets will be on the way shortly. I can't see them producing helms for every other legion and leaving one of the most popular off.
The torsos are great, and IMHO, paired with some beastmen arms would make THE perfect space wolves. However, the heads could make or break them. I'm hoping that the rumors about the masked heads turn out to be true.
Jadenim wrote: Congrats to all the winners! By the way, has anyone heard about results for the GW main competition? It was running at the same time
The what?
The "spend £50 and win a ridiculous amount of models" competition; unfortunately I don't think they ran it in the new world (US/NZ/Aus)
On topic, I have to say there's something a bit lack-lustre about the SW stuff. In principle I'm all for the more workmanlike Celtic/Viking warrior vibe rather than the OTT "Wolfy McWolfbane" style of some of the main studio stuff, but the end result seems a little "meh" sadly.
Automatically Appended Next Post: It actually works better on the Mk II / III marines; I wonder if this is one of the cases where full models would be better than the upgrades. That level of understated bits and bobs of iconography would work if it went across the whole thing, but limited to one or two sections make it a bit lacking IMHO.

I think part of this may just be a case of we are so use to amazing forge world sculpts that when we get another one we're no longer impressed.
And I agree they do look better on Mk II/III, so they were probably designed as upgrades for those marks of armour. They probably just show them on Mk IV because of the ease of access to Mk IV plastic marines.
The Lord of Iron isn’t going to leave his personal security to mere flesh and blood warriors! His bodyguard take the mantra "Iron within." to a new, less metaphorical level.
The first places you'll be able to get your hands on this indomitable Battle Automata will be at Warhammer Fest, next month
We are just used to GW's ridiculous Space Wolf bling.
I will wait for the helmets to pass my judgment.
Agreed. The torsos are really nice, but half the time there'll be arms and bolters obscuring them anyway. The eye tends to be drawn more to heads, so the helmets are what will make or break them IMO.
Its odd that there are no heads. Every other legion has them as part of a B@C bundle, even when there blatantly from different armour marks.
Fingers crossed that Cataphractii pads for the rest of the legions are coming sooner rather than later.

That looks effing amazingful!!!!
I am doing crusade/heresy era Imperial Fists and my friend is doing Iron Warriors, I hope he picks those up so I can blow them up and show those trench crawlers who the real Siege Masters are
I will be a very happy Nerd if there's some new bare heads released with the space wolves stuff! or even with the helmet upgrade kits, i'm sure someone out there will sell me bare heads if they don't use them! :-)
For the first time ever, Forge World rules are available in Tablet and Enhanced Editions! The Mechanicum Taghmata Army List brings the war machines of the Legio Cybernetica, the Knight houses and the Titan Legions to the tabletop, with full rules and background.
READ IT BECAUSE
All players of Horus Heresy games can benefit from adding some Mechanicum (or Dark Mechanicum if that's your metal bag) to their army, and with this digital edition, it's easier than ever to carry the rules with you!

That a new precedent for using the list in 40k?
Most likely a generic copy paste from other digital releases.
It looks like a digital copy of the existing physical book - it doesn't even have the new book 6 units in it :-(
To be fair if they update the list if you've purchased the book previously you'll get updated for free. That's what happened with the Farsight Enclaves, Waaagh Ghazkul, Crimson Slaughter, and Black Legion supplements. Seems to be the new MO which is great.
H.B.M.C. wrote: Meh. They do nothing for me. They're so... subdued.
These are Heresy era stuff so less bling and more conformity.
Yeah, I get that, but they're just not interesting to me.
I'm not saying we need this level of silliness, but the Wolves have always seemed more unique than the rest. I'm kinda hoping for something more interesting.

No. When the book was first released the same words were used. With 30K games you are, after all, technically still playing Warhammer 40K, but you are doing so with the Age of Darkness expansion.
I don't normally follow HH releases from FW, is it normal for them to release torsos and shoulder pads first and then heads later? Surely they'd just release them all at once? How long should we expect it to be before heads arrive?
I like the torsos, the shoulder pads are 'meh'. I was hoping for more than just a regular shoulder pad with the same old blackmane wolf design we have on everything else.

I'm glad FW is releasing books digitally. I'd gladly pick up the red books in digital format even if I don't use the army. I may start a Mechanicum army at some point so having the rules in digital would be nice.
Plus carrying all these books around is a pain, having them in digital would save that pain too.
There are plenty of reasons to go to one of our great events like Warhammer Fest; the seminars; hobby demonstrations; fun activities; and, of course, exclusive models.
I’ve just got hold of the event exclusive model that’ll be released at Warhammer Fest, and it’s stunning! Take a look…
In Cataphractii Terminator Armour, and wielding a Thunder Hammer and what looks very much like a combi-volkite weapon, this model is going to make an imposing and characterful commander in a lot of armies soon!
You’ll be able to get hold of him for the first time at Warhammer Fest, so get your tickets now!
Same here, but from what I understand, it's supposed to be a Warhammer Fest exclusive from now on, or won't be available at other events until after Warhammer Fest.
I want to like the event only cataphractii but there was something bugging me about it and i've only just put my finger on it, his head is too tall. if you look at all the other cataphractii the heads sit really low in the armour.

So, he'll likely be available from any events here in the US where Forge World shows up?
I think under $30 if you're lucky enough to be able to get one at an event. The last event only I was able to get my hands on was the 2011 boarding marine and I easily paid double. :(
Well, the painted example is a Sons of Horus marine, but it would work well as a blackshield.
I'm really impressed with this. Might even pay ebay prices unless I can get someone to pick me one up who's attending the event.
Oh, I saw the damage and the image on the left pauldron shield looked like something had been scratched off.
Is it supposed to be Little Horus?
Little Horus wore power armour, not terminator armour. I doubt it's a named character though - they might make a character for him like they did with the AL and IW marines last time though. Alternatively he looks like he'd make a badass Falkus Kibre (although he'd be in the black and red Justaerin armour).
Automatically Appended Next Post: Yeah, it's just a Praetor in Cataphractii:
The combi-volkite is pretty cool and I like the introduction of armour mounted cameras/sensors a la Indomitus pattern armourw, but otherwise it's a giant meh from me.
I say that as part of the seemingly tiny minority that's not particularly wowed by Cataphracti pattern armour, though. Plus Unhelemted heads are always stupid unless you're on the parade ground.
I don't think its bad, but this and the previous limited edition miniature feel less purpose made than a lot of the stuff FW did before... This feels like he was an alternate sculpt that simply lost out to the Praetor sold on the website, that they grabbed because they needed something.
It's a little annoying that the cheeky sods release this the week after Salute. Previously, they've been "event exclusives", available at every show Forge World attend, now this one's Warhammerfest-only.

"Warhammer World exclusive" and "WarhammerFest only" are a pretty big middle finger to customers outside the UK.
Actually, my mistake; it says "event only, available first at Warhammer Fest". It's just that previously the event-only models have also been available at Salute and Adepticon first.

Last few years there's been at least one that wasn't available at Salute.
He does look pretty cool. I particularly like the sensor gear on his collar, and the Thunderhammer. I agree that he looks more like a Siege Master than a Praetor though. All that gear could easily be a Cognis Signum.

Or those of us north of Manchester. I live in the Highlands and it'd take me more time to drive the round trip to Warhammerfest than it would most people to fly there, pick a model up and fly home again.
Some clean lines and it looks as though it would be easy to paint, as unlike the chaos chosen, it's not been ruined by excessive amount of detail, but the lack of any dynamic pose means I can only give this miniature 3/5.
I'm liking that model, I'm sure I'll get one eventually.
I went to Adepticon this year and they had the past couple event only figures for sale there. I'm sure as long as they have stock they will keep selling it, so I'm sure this one will be at all the major events over the next year or two.
Not a fan of that model. I like cataphractii termie armour...but this guy just screams " oh god we need SOMETHING exclusive for this event....pick something from the 'not released pile' and make it so!"

I see folks saying they are going to miss out on this "limited" edition, "event only" model.....
It says Available FIRST at Warhammer Fest.... indicating it'll become available again.....
You might have missed people pointing out that they can't make the events that FW usually pitch up at/hold, ergo, regardless of how long the model will be available for after Warhammer Fest, they'll not be able to grab it.

Nope. Didn't miss that. That's why I said what I said. They can order it off Forgeworld most likely in the near future. Looks standard enough. Most likely in a set of 5 soon. Don't need to be at an event. Problems only exist when you want them too.
ForgeWorld mentioned that they should have those on the next weekender.
AFAIK, all of these previous "limited" models were indeed strictly limited to events only - they never went up online. What makes you think they might do it this time?
EVEN MORE WINNERS!
We got so many more fantastic entries to our Win a Titan competition than we were expecting, we decided than more prizes were needed.
Last week we announced all of the Titan winners. Today and tomorrow we’ll be announcing runners-up. Each one was chosen from the best of the entries by one of the guys from the Forge World customer service team, and each winner will be getting one of our four Cerastus Knights!
Our fist runner up is Jake O of Leamington Spa, UK – we’ll be sending you a Cerastus Knight-Lancer.
Gary chose Jake's story as his winner. Gary says: The name of Jake's Titan totally grabbed my attention and forced me to read more. The image of this scarred battle Titan squaring up against engines twice it's size was just awesome. Great work Jake!
You can read the story of Jake’s titan Sweetest Oblivion here:
The Sweetest Oblivion is a Chaos Reaver Titan. It was formerly known as the Ex Nihilus of Legio Impactor, one of several Titans left for dead after the Legion’s crushing defeat and almost total annihilation at the hands of the so-called Witch Lords Traitor Titan Legion, at the Defence of Carcos.
The Ex Nihilus was presumed destroyed after it received a direct hit to its head from the Volcano cannon of the infamous Traitor Warlord Titan Phantasmagore. The Ex Nihilusstaggered as the laser weapon penetrated its shields and reduced its adamantium head to molten slag, then became still. All attempts to communicate with the Titan were unanswered and the damage to its head and bridge was visibly catastrophic: the Reaver was almost decapitated and so presumed lost with all hands. The Phantasmagore’s war horn growled in triumph to announce the engine kill and the sinister Warlord turned its attention elsewhere.
For ten days the towering corpse of the Ex Nihilus stood over the ruins of Carcos, even as the victorious Chaos forces routed the Imperial army. On the third day the Titans of theWitch Lords walked, leaving nothing but craters and the slagged remains behind them. On the tenth day, the fingers of Ex Nihilus’ Powerfist twitched, and then it woke. And screamed.
The Titan shrieked through its amplifiers, a static cry of anguish and torment. Its plasma generator reignited and its single remaining eye illuminated with cold blue light in the charred remains of its head. It looked to where the Witch Lords had gone and then, unsteadily at first, the engine walked once more.
Almost a thousand years later, the Sweetest Oblivion is often seen fighting alongside the Witch Lords, its distinctive ruined head making identification easy, even if all previous markings and insignias have been removed or defaced, replaced by indicators of its new name and allegiance. The titan is known for its apparent disregard for its own safety, often squaring off against opponents that outgun it, and deliberately lowering its Void Shields as if inviting oblivion.
The Sweetest Oblivion was on the field when Phantasmagore was finally brought low by the Lux Occulta and its Ventarii maniple, and it was heard to scream again: a sound of such anguish the princeps of the Lux Occulta described it as ‘the cry of a child witnessing the death of their parents.’
Luke chose our second runner up, Benjamin Tuttle of Walton, Kentucky, USA, who’ll be receiving a Cerastus Knight-Atrapos.
Luke said: Benjamin gave an awesomely atmospheric setting to a titan that had seen its fair share of action. It reminded me of an action movie that portrays a gallant hero not willing to give up till he actually died. TO THE BITTER END!
Here’s Benjamin’s story of the Titan Impaler’s March:
The massive chain dragged on the ground, sparking and scraping, connected to the barbed spear following like a lure behind it. The Princeps felt his mangled knee twitch in empathetic connection to his limping Titan as it haltingly tread the harsh landscape. Every laborious step produced the screeching of metal on metal and the grind of salt boulders disintegrating into dust under the great dragging spear. Mounds of bleached dirt pooled around his burden. Bitter ammonia in the burning wind slowly sheared the paint from the Titan's surface. Whole armor plates clung tenuously to the carapace, clanging against the battered hull, threatening to fall free.
Bleeding profusely, his last remaining Moderatii struggled to keep the cogitators running. Only a few kilometers more and the Titan could rejoin its comrades for extraction. Only a few kilometers more of the proud, slow, and painful march.
The Princeps could barely make out the faltering heartbeat of the Moderatii, broken servitors and skull fragments littered in between the humming of wires and the jingle of metal shards. Groans shook the frame of the Titan as its sundered war horn emitted long, distorted cries of pain.
But the prize was proof of victory.
In the end, the remains of the first foul Chaos Warhound’s grasping claws completely impaled his Warhound's leg. Static electricity had arced between the connected Titans as his war machine struggled to be free. Yet that final torturous boom, the screaming of the spear as it found purchase, still consumed his mind.
Thirty hours it had taken to coax his wounded God Machine out of the entangled pile of death. Thirty hours it had taken to tear away the limbs and armor from his defeated enemies so his Warhound could limp free. The chain and spear had bellowed in protest, tangled around his many foes. But that precious prize was proof of victory.
With a brief turn of his head, the Princeps heard his final crew member slump in his chair. The thud of his subordinate's head scattered debris from the console, the final sigh of death distracting him for a mere moment. But that other sound snapped him back to attention. That grinding scrape of the chain dragging behind made his scarred mouth twist into the ghost of a smile. The massive Chaos Reaver's head, impaled on that triumphant spear, was a great prize indeed.
That’s all for today, come back tomorrow for two more winners!

Eh, no. By "available first at WarhammerFest", they mean that's the first event it will be available at, not that it will later go on general release through the webstore. If you can't attend an event FW are at, you're not going to be able to buy one of these should you want one without paying double or triple the sticker price to ebay scalpers.

Yesterday we revealed the first runners-up in our Win a Titan competion who've won a pair of Cerastus knights. Now it’s time for our final two winners. Good luck!
Chosen by Simon to win a fantastic Cerastus Knight-Castigator, the next runner up is Russell V of Longmont, Colorado, USA.
Simon said: I thought that the imagery provoked in this story really caught the essence of the battle between two titans as witnessed by a Space Marine. It made me want to know more about the titan and the Space Marine in the story.
Here’s the story of Russells Titan, Blood Brother:
Kar’ak found himself scratching frantically at the base of a fortress. The battlement before him stretching into the hot red sky of a world he did not remember. He looked down to see a mangled chain axe, broken teeth embedded into the deep scores of the wall before him. Around him, warriors in white armour beat themselves against the unyielding walls of the fortress. Behind them, a city lay in ruin. Rust colored dust swept through crumbling buildings already consumed with smoke and fire. It was often like this when he awoke from the nails, when no more blood was within his reach.
The world beneath Kar’ak began to tremble. In a matter moments, the tremble grew to a violent shake, brown red dust pouring from the ruins. One of the crumbling buildings exploded. Smoke billowed forth as man sized chunks of debris were sent flying through the air. A pair of massive titans tumbled through the crumbling city as if grappling, scrambling to tear into each-other like common brawlers. Kar’ak stared on at the display as the two titans, each nearly two dozen meters in height, collided with the fortress wall. The wall screamed and groaned as stone and metal buckled and shattered. Even from 60 meters away, he could feel the impact in his bones.
One of the titans rose. Thousands of scratches covered it’s once red hull. It raised its right arm, revealing a smoldering hulk that might once have been a power claw. The second titan lay slumped against the fortress; its carapace of blue and gold still shining in the red sun. With a sound like cracking thunder, the now ruined power claw slammed into the exposed belly of the blue titan. The fortress wall shook and the armored torso of the blue titan buckled. Air hissed as the red titan’s left arm, a plasma cannon the size of a tank, charged.
Kar’ak smiled as he looked on, seeing that the hulking mass of adamatium that had never known the nails or the smell of blood or the crack of bone, was one of his legion.
The plasma cannon fired. Super heated air ruptured the blue titans power core. Kar’ak survived the explosion, blinded. Nearly every bone broken; bleeding in half of his organs. In time he would recover. In time he would tell the tale of the titan they now called Blood Brother.
Tris picked our final runner up, Matt Curnen of Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Matt, we’re sending you a Cerastus Knight-Acheron.
Tris said: I picked this story as it nicely, and succinctly captures the tale of a Reaver Titan from The Horus Horus era who's name became legendary for a truly courageous act during the Siege of Terra and took on an almost supernatural presence for the warriors, on both sides, that were involved in the final struggle for the throne world of Mankind. I can imagine this story shown next to a full colour plate of the Burning Vengeance that an Imperial historian might study millennia after the Titan had been lost the ravages of war.
Read Matt’s story of the Titan The Burning Vengeance here:
The Legio Ignatum has long served the Imperium, and in its history, perhaps no other god-machine is more honored than the Burning Vengeance.
Originally named the Emperor’s Will, this colossal Reaver Titan had seen many of the battlefields of the Great Crusade. As the Imperium expanded, it’s maniple was assigned to a Blood Angels Legion strike element that engaged in several bloody system campaigns pushing into Ultima Segmentum. It was the only member of it’s maniple not destroyed, and was only saved by the stalwart defense of the Blood Angels Legion. Returned to Mars for extensive repairs, it was in its post-repair shakedown when Horus’ treachery was discovered. Involved directly in the battles on Mars, it was one of the Titans to be evacuated to Terra to prepare for the inevitable siege.
Its Princeps commanded the head be painted white, a sign of the noble death he expected to meet in battle. As the Siege of Terra wore on, the Emperor’s Will found itself fighting alongside its longtime companions, the Blood Angels, around the Imperial Palace. Often neglected in Imperial History, the final hours of the Siege of Terra were by far the most horrific. Sensing victory, the traitor legions released every weapon at their disposal. As the fateful boarding action aboard the Vengeful Spirit took place, phosphex shells rained down around the Emperor’s palace.
When Sanguinius was struck down by Horus, the Blood Angels fighting around the titan were rocked by the psychic backlash of his death. Without hesitation, its void shields catastrophically damaged, the Emperor’s Will stepped into the breach and lashed out at the traitors, even as it burned from several phosphex impacts. Such was the fury of its onslaught and the accuracy of its fire, that the traitors were scattered before its fury. As the Blood Angels regrouped and charged out to the field, they looked on in awe as the god-machine tore through the traitors’ ranks, the eerie green phosphex flames reflected from it’s white death’s head.
In the aftermath of the Siege, the titan was renamed the Burning Vengeance, in honor of its deeds on that day of days. Millennia later, there are those among the traitor legions who still remember the slaughter outside the Imperial Palace, a gleaming white death’s head, and the cold fear they felt the day the Warmaster fell.
Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. It’s been a lot of fun reading your stories, and we hope you enjoyed writing them.
But it’s not quite over yet!
Some stories really stood out to us in the web team, for a lot of different reasons. Special mentions go to Noah S; Duncan K of Hove, UK; Glen B of Frankston, Australia; Chris S of Verona, Wisconsin, USA; Maxime D of Ivry Sur Seine, France; Matt V of Oakton, Virginia, USA; Alex L of Llandudno, UK; Guerin T of Deakin, Australia; Harald W of Gothenburg, Sweden; and Douglas D of Glasgow, UK. Each of you will be receiving a small prize from us soon, because we though your stories deserved recognition.
And Duncan, we strongly disagree with the Collegia Titanica’s ruling - Houndy McHoundface is an excellent name for a Titan.

When you say "literally your dad" do you mean that the description could be him? Or that there's *literally* going to be knight sat on the table when you get home?
I've got enough Medicae models as is for my army, so all I really need now is to build an auto-gurney of sorts, as I really do want to field that guy. 4+ FnP is really good, especially when I can toss that on my Rogue Trader and Veletaris honour guard with power axes into a Zone Mortalis setting, the perfect MEQ-mincer.

Sweet as feth. Those minis are incredible. Love the guy with the chainsaw.
BTW, if anyone doesn't already know this, you can drag down on the 360 shots to get a higher angle on the minis (there's usually a couple of higher angles, including directly above).
These models (minus the gurney) were first previewed in White Dwarf Weekly #89, the 10th of October 2015.
Much to the annoyance of some people, I used models from different companies.
Spoiler:
General Drake from Reaper
The older version of Dr. Diana, from Warzone before it was revived by Prodos. Picture taken from Azazelx's awesome thread. Upon seeing the mini I knew I had to get it. Seriously, check his thread out, it's damned good!
There's also a good old Doc Dorden in my medical wing, to appease the GW crowds!
Honestly, this unit is an excuse to use older or odder models in my collection, though they do fit in nicely with the rest of my patched together Solar Auxilia force. I will certainly be adding Jovan and his orderlies to my army at some point, maybe whenever they release the red book or MaSade himself.
Knight-Errant Tylos Rubio, former Codicier of the Ultramarines Legion, will be available for the first time at Warhammer Fest in strictly limited quantities on each day.

Looking at this picture, I'd say he's not attached. You assemble him separately then attach to the gurney.

And templar brethren are just guys with special looking swords and sheild but they still got an upgrade. Dorn is just a guy with a giant chainsword. I want my legion to get its special guys too.
I think what you're seeing as the back of the blade is in fact the flat, but the high-contrast paintjob it looks like it's at a harsher angle than it is.

Medicae are a cool bit of bizarro to throw in with the SA.
Again, meh on the marine. Not wearing a helmet is still stupid and there only being one helemeted librarain on sale (Loth) remains annoying. The torso on this guy is underwhelming. Most interesting feature seems to be the slung bolter.
Is it? OK, then. Just seemed thick in width for a cutting sword. Or maybe the gladius is a thrusting weapon.
Gladii are all about the thrust. Roman military tactics 101: set up shield wall, stab through carefully left gaps when anyone who isn't clean shaven and wearing sandals (even in Europe during winter if Asterix comics are to be believed) shows up.

Personally prefer Garro, but await more views, as others do, to make full judgement. The medicae orderlies are awesome though! I love the way FW has painted them- the choice of bright blue, glossy gloves really gives them such a clinical, surgical look that makes them stand out, and also somehow makes them look even more sinister. Brilliant combo with the baroque armour.
Sad there isn't more interest in this could've squeezed some flyer moneys out of me. Oh well. Guess i'll just have to wait on the new FW knight before I get spend happy.
Hmmm odd I posted this in the flyer rumors I thought. New medics are a must
I also feel that Rubio doesn't feel like a Forge World product at all. It reminds me partly of a 3rd party effort and partly of something GW might have put out a couple of decades ago. It's not even particularly terrible, just really jarring.
Those SA Medicae on the other hand are stunning. I think I already said in this thread that they are some of the finest infantry models they've ever done. Slapping on a character tax is not something we should welcome, but I almost think they're entitled to milk these guys given the outstanding quality.

How did you build Medicae? Any chance for pics?
The battle sisters nurse mini is great for SA or any other place you need a medic. One of my favorite GW older minis

I believe it is this fellow. The brass handle sticking out to the right appears to be for a needle pistol on the 360 view. He also wouldn't need the apron due to having a surgical tool that does not break the skin.
The medicae are interesting, but not really a fan of the model on the "gurney". Still, cool to see that FW is willing to branch out and do creative things like this
Has anyone else had a hard time with the black library Taghmata epub? I've downloaded and tried a few epub readers and none of them display the book correctly.
The paintjob is unfortunate. It looks uncharacteristic of FW and it drowns out a lot of the detail that's clear and obvious in the unpainted pictures.
Unpainted, and particularly without the exaggerated highlights, they look quite good. If they had been given a more typical, moderate and realistic, airbrushed and weathered FW detail, they would have looked a lot better.
Personally I'm still not a huge fan of the pseudo-baroque cosmonaut look, but they're not bad models.
Still my personal favourite surgeon. If you can trust someone (or something) wearing a surgical gown, then who can you trust?
I'm at work atm, but pretty sure it was a epub file. The thing is that instead of displaying the pages properly I get one page with the background and images, and the next is all the unformatted text that goes on that page. I've tried a few readers now.

Thanks, I thought as much. I like the light blue surgical gloves he's got on - especially the little aquila on the back of the hand! It looks like the sort of thing that would be a breeding ground for germs!
I was wondering about the infection control aspects myself the other day. I reckon the gloves are disposable gloves that slip over the void armour, due to them all being clean, unlike the aprons. I reckon they must have access to some powerful, non-toxic disinfectants though, that coat the tools, because that chainsaw sure doesn't look disposable, and it hasn't been cleaned (as you might expect on the battlefield), so there must be some other way in which they prevent their charges later dying of infection. Which may possibly just be giving them a large prophylactic antibiotics dose. Hmm, musings of 30k healthcare techniques.
