You can see how this is an early project, much less refined than others I have made, but I did make use of some FT-17 Renault tank parts for the track system. the hull was all scratch from inside my head, and wound up looking like a Bren and a German tank had spawned a child. This is supposed to be a Centaur stand in vehicle.

Wait till you see the results of the two Renault hulls the kit had in it.
Maybe 2mm shorter?

Excellent tanks.
As always
How big is a FT-7 Renaught? I once saw one at 1/35th scale with a paint of large smoke canisters on is sides. I considered rigging such a vehicale to be a Banewolf.
If they are smaller i could modifiy one to be a salamander like yours. OR....
i could rig one with a small box-like hull (METAL BAWKES) and wheels if needed to make a "Rhino" for my experimental Exo Suit units (aka Space Marine allies)

Thanks! I will do a shot of one next to a chimera, the FT-17 is not that big as it was a 2 man tank at best. I figured as a centaur stand in it works, better.

Well guys, thank you for the good wishes, I knew one day it may be bound to happen, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure back on '04, I guess I got away clean for about 8yrs, and now I just have to be cautious for 6 months as the coumadin works to help me clear that little clot out of the arm. Doesn't stop me from making stuff and painting stuff, the worst part so far was the really cruddy hospital grub and the low bid bed I had to sleep(Rarely) on.
I will have pics of the tractor machine up soon, I have been camo'ing it up for all to see, just needs the black squiggles.

Erm, not too sure tbh, never tried using one of those... you'd have to get the paint the right consistency I'd have thought and be careful of clogging as well. but I shouldnt see it being much different... just dont make the paint too thin, and do a tester first is all I can suggest tbh.l
48594
Post by: dsteingass
If you just want rust or oil splatters, an old toothbrush and the flick method works really well (it works even better with oil paints over top of a gloss coat)- The pump spray sounds like an interesting idea for big splatter patterns, but would a full pump create too much pressure or not? That sounds worth experimenting with. I agree with Childe though, the paint would have to be really thin, perhaps a wash or thinned oil paint, or even a wash made from thinner and weathering powders (the powders dissolve completely, so chunks or clogging shouldn't be an issue).
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well of course testing is to be done first...
and if clogging happens... the bitz will instantly end up in my scratchbuild box... it´s a winwin situation
and dave... i am still thinking about getting me a can of pressurized gas to test the AB gun...

It doesn't even need to be a toothbrush, any stiff brush will do the job
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
I do have some brushes I may be able to do that with.
53821
Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde
the only reason toothbrushes are used for this technique so much is how stiff the bristles are. But daves right anything will do, as it gives a different type of spatter effect.

Now I dont want to sound rude but sometimes you need to be unrealistic to look realistic. This why heroic scale looks right even though the proportions are way off, its why we have to accentuate highlights and shadows far more than a larger model would.
its why mud has to be done differently.
Your depiction of mud might be to some degree 'accurate', but all I see from your Manticore is a model painted in random colours.

FT-17 Renault hull with little Imperial Tracks. Excellent.
i need a wee little tractor for my army. Currently have my Battlewagon turned Dragon Wagon. doing alot of heavy lifting. But i need a trio of smaller guys to drag around say... A baneblade sized vehicale.
What do you recommend? (in terms of models for conversion.) I need small little vehicales like the Renault and such.
Edit: another super heavy is nearing completion on my end. Challenger 1 turned Chrono Cannon weilding Super heavy named the "Time Lord" for its cannons ability to remove the enemy from the time stream like they never existed!!

That sounds very powerful, keep it at BS3 for fairness sake.
Now, for small artillery tractors, the FT worked, i made a scratch tractor using the FT suspension but resembles a Bren crosses a German Panzer, I also modified a bren kit 1/35 scale that worked out well, I just use the Centuar rules for them.

Heavy duty trench rails, I had to bend the parts a bit, that made it easier to glue to the curve.

Oh, now that I know of sources for treads of a larger scale and such, I can always work towards a true behemoth but I already have the "Vasily" a Baneblade, the Perunm and Bogatyr,
But to make a monster machine with 1"+ treads, other than the baneblade, well, that would be a beasty! To make a true land-ship, a machine that needed three sets of treads, multiple sponsons and barbettes and turrets, along with a bridge tower and massive smoke stacks.........
Meanwhile, I figured that Zinge made his track-wheels after the French FT based on the 31mm and 21mm sprocket and idler wheels. I sketched out a combat tank that would use those treads to max effect

the back reworked, plate as well as support, and the 2nd barrel, due to mud/water splash, boxes and rods low, sacks would be higher up
Under support beams (Rivets pending)

plenty of stowage under the barrels(support rods for camo nets), boxes and sacks of supplies
[/img]
Double barreled fuel support, external drums for quick release hoses will be attached as they will be first used before the internal fuel bins

Plenty enough room for other supplies that cannot be put inside the machine.

Okay, could not wait forever. I will fit those massive hatched in on the sponsons as soon as they arrive,, but this gives an idea as to how close to the concept I have achieved in the execution of the design. The tall, and far sticking sponsons are so the soldiers transported are in the way of the side gunners, this allows the squad to arrive in comfort relatively speaking.

Guns can cover the forward arcs as well as the "bow" gunner and Turret #1
[/img]
Ball mounted MG and space for the Zinge Industry armored doors.

First gatling is done and it spins! I am going to make a turret housing for 2 of them as twinlinked vulcan mega bolters, I am working on pics of that and the now built and finished monster/KV-200, sadly, so much surface, not enough rod stock for this in the same size, I may just do revers flushed rivets by doing a slight drill mark style.
The vents are cheap, 2bucks translated from yen(160yen) very small to a good size, I will have picks of the 4 I glued to the landship-transport(I may get some on the KV-200, I plan on using some other bitz as well to spiff it up Automatically Appended Next Post: The Zinge vents come with a sized one I will add a handle on for the engine grille Automatically Appended Next Post: I have updates, the end caps of the KV-200 cannons have rifling!

and the vents apear a bit smallish on the tank but i guess that might be deceiving...when painted this effect will blen in just nicley...
and the gatlings are enourmous... seeing them... i think you are due to make your own titan now one of these days.... they would fit the bill completly...
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
Yeah, gonna add some of those vents to the mighty KV-200 Walker, and then I used the smaller vents at that. KV-200 is smaller than a warhound, so more likely a Knight sized machine, like an egg on legs armed with sledgehammers
Yeah, once the Zinge stuff arrives, and Hoard o' bitz, I will finish the transport tank, and start on a tank fit for thos gatling cannons
The turret will be a big one, and needs spots I can put the twist caps through so I can make them spin while on the tabletop battlefield.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
yeah moveable turrets are always way cooler than stationary ones!
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
I ordered enough treads to make wider ones, at about 20mm wide, so this baby will have a wider ground pressure foot print as well as a wider chassis as that turret will be pretty darn big, two of those side by side
Just think 15 or so Strength 6 low armor pen numbered shots that get a re-roll to hit!

and the only way to top double gatling guns is 3 of them , look at the turret strapped to the juggernaught truck in Twisted Metal is you want to see what i mean lol. Epic eithe rway!!

@Vik: Yep, these were plenty nice as is to have found.
@Dave. I find all sorts of odd uses for these4 bases all the time!
@Engine of War, Well, I hav 2 more of those gatling cannons, maybe another such turret for a 2nd tank. Depends on how much track I have left over.

Okay! awesome stuff! Zinge and Hoard O' Bitz dropped supplies at my door at the same time!
Hoard O' Bitz drop, flight stands, tank parts for general tanks, and some needed Crusader tank bitz for my MK-II Crusader pattern Landraider.

Zinge Drop has more pics it was so much bigger!!!
What's a little flash? this appears to be an older casting that was available
[/img]
Hatches! BIG hatches!
[/img]
[/img]
Vents and fans! Some of these are definitely terrain piece worthy parts!
[/img]
Wheels for the tracks!

Lots of treads!

I have fitted stuff to the transport tank,,,those doors are BIG! had to modify, I do hope he gets a door made with the hinges on the other side, I putty filled the on round window, and dremel made a slit window for that one
Oh, I gave them to the Klingons, where they'll be no tribble at all!

@shasolenzabi - Looking good. I have been lurking on this thread for a while . The flashy wheels should be ok - checked them myself, but waiting for new ones would have been a further week delay.
So you want an other handed door? hmm who else wants these and how about a matched pair for £5.50ish?
Let see those tanks roll!

Not a problem, this all will help my one project finish, and the next project shape up nicely! No for the Transport for the trench worlds
Engine doors,,,with handles added!
[/img]
[/img]
Left sponson combat door. Kept it standard as it came as that is where it was to go. Man those things are BIG!
[/img]
Right sponson combat door, had to modify this one so it would work for the sponson as the original did for the left sponson
[/img]
Ventilators set over the tops of the sponsons
[/img]
[/img]
Rear stowage arrangement. Set up with Hoard O' Bitz, another fine bitz company. Both Zinge's and HoB arrived the same day!

Double-wide track shoes for the Vulcan Mega-Bolter project tank

Now, as for the colors you sent Dave, I figured that they would help with the wild sixty's era Klingon design ships, so here they are with the main colors in.
Note the addition of the upper wing flanking phasers.
[/img]
Bridge forward
[/img]
Aft, shuttle decks, aft weapons, and Ion exhaust ports
[/img]
Impulse reactor giving that warm red glow!
[/img]
Chin phasers and beacon(bulb is in "rotting flesh" by GW
[/img]
Shoulder Phasers
[/img]
Printer-patrol
[/img]
I was trying to cross the gap between eras when the Klingons had a wild color scheme, and the modern era where they are mainly green. These colors all have some little bit of green, mixed with gray Now they need details, and decals added.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
seeing those birds.... i realize i have little knowledge of what a klingon bird of prey should be colored...
and....printer patrol... well... how to put it... but those orbiting spacecrafts could use a rag and mob up some of that dust on that printer

Post by: dsteingass
Looks great Shas! Colors for later Star Trek ships are hard to replicate because they were always filmed on the dark set with dramatic lighting (DS-9 for example), but these look great! Much better than the drab grey others often use for the D-7 paintjob. What happened to the rotting flesh paint? I see a few strange bubbles.
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
@ Vik: Some of the novels for Star Trek indicated that Klingons color perception is far different than that of humans, so colors appear differently to them, Yeah, dust settle quick here, but that printer has bee neglected a while.
@Dave: Yep, like I told Vik, to Klingons, the greys show in oddly purplish colors, the sets always seemed to have an impact and some folks who also have color issues would make their color charts based on that light effect on the paint, (The bulbs were supposed to be almost white according to Polar Lights due to this). Yeah, some moisture from a fog got onto the model and popped, giving a pit effect, it just shows up more on that model in the "Rotting Flesh" area. I left it as a meteor strike effect on the armor plating of the ship.

oh.... i didn´t knew? never read any ST books at all... just telly stuff....
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
Yeah Vik, they were seeing white chairs as green tinted, and security door with red letters was all black to them, so Klingons with red colored outfits may see it as a black uniform instead of red.
I also have ordered Mantic Enforcers box set, so Power armored warriors that look like they were made by Tony Stark aka Iron Man on their way as well as the Kommissariat sisters

what are they putting you back for these then? how much in other words?
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
Enforcers for all that 82bucks, now at 37.50 for 10marines,,,,and 20bucks now for commanders and heroes
so, 2 x 37.50 then another 2 x 33bucks, and the 18.00
Space marines = 160 or so based on sales taxes, so have the cost of the SM.
The Zvedvedova sisters and their dog about 75bucks, but they are of a quality that blows the doors off GW models.
Oh and an immense Ork Boss as well.

Thanks Vik! Those big doors are a counts as assault doors, allowing the men to launch into close assault from the sponson doors and the front ramp area!

Looking great Shas!- You should also add a line of rivets on the exposed edge of the Zinge doors- when painted it should blend seamlessly then.

You mean the edged that are sticking out? ir the edges around the door itself? either way is dominated by the amount of space the door leaves on that facing, the edges however are just big enough to allow rivets

Okay, so no one was impressed yet with the new treads system for the tank that will have the TL- MB. It will be better once I assemble it all the way.
Meanwhile, I have had to resort to white primer! I must get to Lowe's and get some black acrylic primer in a can. Until then, the new assault transport looks rather ghost like with the white primer coat. so no flash used

sorry mate... we have been hit by a severe snowstorm (well severe at least for berlin...) and went by sligh to hunt for a christmas tree... so...weekend was filled with family stuff... and early nights too...
so don´t feel bad about no replies... that new tracksystem looks very cool.... are you satisfied with the assembly and all the parts? the tracks look nice... and of course... gears and all for the audience to see...always a definite plus
the ghost tank... yes, i think this will be a true gem for your force! now lets spoil it with some more paint

I glued in the other plate for that track system.
The white primer beast is ready for camo work.
2326

24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
there are these color combos that look at first glance a bit discouraging... but when you see it through... then it all pays off eventually...
2326

So, here are the pics I took of the way Shadow Gray reacts to just white.

Post by: shasolenzabi
So, I promised images of the tank when the camo was being applied, now that the darker Green camo is on, the shadow gray is acting normal now. Imagine hundreds of these rolling across "NO Man's Land"? ready to delivcer the troops despite wider trenches and pits?

Now, if the design could be re-done somewhere, that one place one of our lads got his guns made for example, I might be able to get them to make the tak in turrets/sponsons/weapons/hull/treads/tanks etc so that i could make it as a mass production machine

Also from France, my sisters Zvedvedova!

Their stances do not fit 25mm bases properly, so either some leg bending, or bigger bases will get used. Otherwise, as you can see, these are awesomely detailed minis! And yes, they have a cigar smoking bulldog with them.
