Wh40kPicasso wrote:I was more or less talking about how the antenna was attached to the plane than the actual antenna itself. Maybe put some plasticard around the base of it and some rivets to make it look slapped on there? just was what i was thinking. Oh and you obviously never saw the plans for the "Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte "
Propulsion:
The Ratte was to be propelled by two MAN V12Z32/44 24 cylinder marine diesel engines of 8,500 hp (6.2 MW) each (as used in U-boats) or eight Daimler-Benz MB 501 20 cylinder marine diesel engines of 2,000 hp (1.5 MW) each (as used in E-boats) to achieve the 16,000 hp (11.8 MW) needed to move this tank. The engines were to be provided with snorkels also like those used by German submarines. The snorkels were of course designed to provide a way for oxygen to reach the engine, even during amphibious operations passing through deep water.
Armament:
The Ratte's primary weapon would have been a dual 280 mmSK C/28 gun turret. The turret was to have been a modified Kriegsmarine triple gun turret, removing one of the guns and loading mechanism.
Further armament was to consist of a 128 mm anti-tank gun of the type used in the Jagdtiger or Maus, two 15 mm Mauser MG 151/15 autocannons, and eight 20 mm Flak 38 anti-aircraft guns, probably with at least four of them as a quad mount. The 128 mm anti-tank gun's precise location on the Ratte is a point of contention among historians, most believing that it would have been mounted within the primary turret, with some others thinking a smaller secondary turret at the rear of the Ratte more logical. Some concept drawings exist to suggest a flexible mount on the glacis plate. The tank was to be provided with a vehicle bay sufficient to hold two BMW R12 motorcycles for scouting, as well as several smaller storage rooms, a compact infirmary area, and a self-contained lavatory system.
I have known of the "Ratte" for some time, as it is an "Oddball" tank even though it was a concept only, and likely the inspiration for such things as "Bolos", which also inspired the "Ogre" combat games, although those were nuclear powered and sentient warmachines. The likely thing that would happen to a "Ratte" with no Luftwaffe support would have been the land version of what happened to vessel of the DKM with no air support, attacked, bombed into a burning hulk as the bombs penetrated it's upper deck plates. As it would have been land based rockets would have replaced torpedoes.

Yep, mostly safe underground,,,except now they make "Bunker busters" that drill into the ground a bit before they go off, collapsing tunnels and galleries of underground facilities.
Well, as I told Briancj, the Big Bomma was not yet done, the antenna is basically "stabbed" into the plating.(Mek was trying to hit a naughty grot with it, and it stuck in nicely, so he decided to leave it there, and attach wires to the radio.)
Now then, rusty gun barrels all around, not just the turret guns.

Got that sliver of copper on the stabilizer, so, now that you have been amongst the GD entries next to the Ork Mower and did well, and I saw some unusually "fresh" looking bommas, I wonder what you think my bommas could have pulled off there?
Well, a stock Dakkajet won the gold, and it beat out this one

Oh it was a nice kit, I have a lot of spare arms and heads for other troops. I got mine before the changing of hands of Wargamesfactory, have not bought anything from the new owners as yet, although they have made a heavy weapon team kit for the great coats. you get the three body poses, and as you can see a selection of heads and weapons.

That and the batreps and stories can be far more colorful!
Oh the codex:Imperial Guard each platoon has a small command squad, and the army has up to two Army command squad(s). So, if you go with three platoons, and one army cmnd sqd, you have 4 cmnd units overall.
Viktor von Domm wrote: oh... i didn´t knew that... tho to my guilt i never read the rules section quite thouroughly yet^^
The Guard has quite the rigid structure and yet some flexibility as a platoon can be 5 x 10man squads and one command sqd with heavy weapon and specialist weapons sqds attached to it, so one troop choice of 150 or so strong! Great for Apocalypse level games) For kill points, the platoon squads(Riflers) can "mob up" and count as one 50man kill point, or separate out into independent moved units to cover objectives. I have had some games of 30 men with command and support teams attached, so 2 platoons and Veterans as an independent action troop choice, hunt-kill squad.
dsteingass wrote: Great for regular games too! Guard MUST have a scoring blob and a sacrificial blob if you ever want to win a game It sucks for painting tho

[/img]
paint scrapes off on some areas, like hinge axless, and handle wear.
[/img]
This all for now, more to come as I do work on those turning handle grips, and more!
and have fun working with that beast... looks like you already has^^ as the tank looks very good
Ah, it is from The Vraks Campaign books by Forgeworld, a total history of a 12yr planetary trench war. They gave a history of these ancient weapons that the bad guys dusted off for use, but other loyal planets have a few examples left and use them the Nuetron Laser is not stable, if I hit an enemy and do no damage from a hit, the weapon suffers from feedback and takes a d-3 glancing hits, considering it's range and power it is more than fair. plus it had structure points before 6th edition came out, I wonder how that will work as regular tanks have hull points now? I would guess it would be double or triple that number of hull points based on the old structure points,,,normal tanks had just one structure point not mentioned, and now the Leman russ has what, 4 hull points? then at 2 structure points like this beast it would be 8hull points, and a Baneblade would have 12? Youch that is a lot to keep track of.
Have you considered putting a wash over your tanks? I think the Secret Weapons Miniatures "Soft Body Black", watered down a bit (Say, 1 part SWW to 2 parts water), would really make these tanks POP.
As always, enjoying what comes out of your STC Forges.

Oh, those were the pics of it fresh from the show room, I always dirty my beauties

You mean like a lighter green in between the ridges? I was going for heavy insulation on those.Basically many other cables are inside that ridgey green sleeve

ah! i see.... i took them as plasma cords... your concept of course is way more sound...
lol...this lil doggie played in the mud... this lil doggie leaked promethium...this lil doggie run over some footsloggers as he was trying to play with them...this lil doggie
by the way...that lil three peaked thingy on the front... what is it for? i have that in my bitzbox... but i don´t know the use for it...

Nice play on "This lil' piggy"
That good Vik is a smoke launcher, the peaks are the grenades, which are launched via small rocket motors(Solid fuel stage) and make those fluffy white clouds to hide behind for tanks.
The Valdor is beautiful Shas! Your paintjob on that guy is nice and smooth. The Hellhound too! Did you get a new acrylic thinner or new paint or something?
Okay, used Badab Black on the Hydra, it came out gnarly and dark, makes it look like something covered in too much dirt! But here it is

I went for a game reference for the number as I feel like it will need to nail targets, guess which game? Hint, video is the medium, not table top for the reference. I bet Dave gets it in one.

Got on Basilisk to finish nicely, and another that I am thinking of replacing the cardboard armor compartment with plastic instead.
So, have that old beaten cardboard armored crew compartment, next to the plastic one is sags and seems needing replacing
Pull the plastic bitz off and put them on the plastic replacement

As you can see, the surface is a mess, it had to have glue applied and that kept a texture, and looked like wrinkled skin, the roof was saggings, and that was waiting to just get smooshed one day, so off it came!
Well, the old compartment was torn up, but I had a muzzle break and kept the hatches(cleaned the cardboard off the pieces, and am shaping a new compartment that should be sturdier with some supports in there.) Okay, Monkey got close in his last line as for the hydra's number, and no, no Pz-38, or other previous tank designations.
Gray stuff to smooth out rough spots, and that is last of that thickness of plasticard, and i have some partial thinner sheets left, Once I have an income again, I will have to order more, I am running low on lot's of stuff
i think you might be in need of a care package mister!... any league members able to provide some for our founding member here? we wouldn´t want to see him run out of materials, now would we?
yeah... seeing you run out of modeling suplies... i can´t have with that tho i am atm not able to look at your stuff during my cornflakes... i still cherish your army shaping up and getting more´n ´more powerful!
Viktor von Domm wrote:yeah... seeing you run out of modeling suplies... i can´t have with that tho i am atm not able to look at your stuff during my cornflakes... i still cherish your army shaping up and getting more´n ´more powerful!
Ah, thank you Vik! So much to do on this Guard forces!
dsteingass wrote:Not a problem at all man, glad to help. I just need to cut some sheets down to a size that will fit in a flat rate box.
Sweet! I have an idea for a transport design, I need more APCs!
You noticed the markings with the stripe in the middle
White with red stripe=Superheavy tank support
Red with black stripe= Heavy support
Yellow+black stripe=Artillery
Blue with black stripe=transport division
Some of the superheavyes have been marked as artillery, and the Hydra marked like a Leman Russ, but falls under support via tank as it does not transport, nor lobs or shoots tanks
Of course! I just got done doing some minor re-work on another Basilisk.had to add rivets decals, better mud and dirt wash it down, stuff is still wet and shiny, pics later on.
Viktor von Domm wrote: so when will you chuck out your finest again into the belly of the beast?
Oh, that now depends on finding opponents, and to travel as my ride and his work has to coincide with a day off, but his Girlfriend, well, she does have priority demands as he is the only driver in the house so, it has not been easy. I am considering this as a chance to do retrofits, repairs, and such for the men and vehicles. I can't wait to get the design finished and show what is coming next from the fevered imaginarium I have LOL!
No worries, been fighting for castle resources on Good Games Empire, (A German based browser game) on the USA-1 server, and am doing well there.
Now 27 went and got smokey, oily, and dirty!

And my second Basilisk, I added rivets to the smooth bracing works, and also the artillery marking and decals and dirty it up

Automatically Appended Next Post: And finally followers of the oddball tank thread, the frontal assault APC, whereas another did something similar it still resembled a smaller Gorgon with the driver and such at the back, this machine has an upper deck setting for the crew, and then in the deep heart is the squad holding area.
the oily smoke effects look very good... convincing... wouldn´t want to touch these spots^^
and the concept is of course hitting my weak spot again with that general WWI british design!
those gun barbettes... could you describe these a bit more? are these the same as on a chimera ... these bitz with a round ball and a lasgunbarrel? to stand in for soldiers that shoot at enemies from within with their lasguns or am i misunderstanding something here?
also, how will you model the trench rails? you still have some bitz of these or will you scratchbuild these then?
how many transport places will this beast hold? the whole concept looks like an allrounder to me... transport and a hard hitter...
I like it when the effect makes for a desire to not touch the model for fear something will dirty said fingers!
LOL! Yes, I have some of those possibly laying around as Hydra and Hellhound do not make for the use of those ball joint weapons.
Scratch build, can't buy the FW ones, so I will use boiling water to soften plastic to give the curve. I will have to see whaat rod stock I have left, likely litt left, so I may use flat stock and make the whole thing look very WW-I
I am seeing this as a single squad with the spare slots for say a preacher and commissar, or to drop 6 Ogryns stand ins. I use slightly converted Trollkin for a Janissary race under Khadrovian Domination. The RhÛk
Automatically Appended Next Post: Now, I got the paint fresh touched, added in details and decals, Next up is mud and dirt
you know those nerds out there that keep on fussing about not drilled out barrels? well my nerdrage always comes in when i see a tank barrel that shows the connection of the two halves.... not that many peeps will see that ever... but it just makes me feel akward about it... i usually put PVA in the barrel and once set i paint it over...
and that´s got to be the cheeriest LR of your collection atm^^
and... the dozerbalde makes me think dirty thoughts mister
oh by the way... your ogryn stand ins... you never showed us these!

IF you do this... then please add a step by step for this procedure as much as you can! as i think it would be nice to see how this can be achived... as i think one of these days i have to start making a tank from scratch again^^
LOL! I know Vik, I have rammed a beat up old brush full of chaos black down that main gun barrel to make it harder to spot.
All of them look pretty cheery before i slp 'em with the mud and grunge wash
Oh that too will be filthy
I have them accessible, and may pull them out for a look see and they may need a repaint.
Of course! Step with the boiling water will steam the camera, but the softening is the main trick, then I can shape the plastic and the cold air or water will get it back to normal yet curved for an easier gluing to the strut.
Automatically Appended Next Post: P.S. I Pm'd Dave as the rain is pouring like I was Noah, so I am guessing the post may have it in their hands, I get lucky that way a lot, last time the panic was over how long resin and plastic kits sat under a blazing hot sun!
Viktor von Domm wrote: oh... that is something no one would want to have... their precious resin melting in the sun...
The plastic stuff from Defiance Games was sitting on the bottom, the package you sent me and the Hasslefree resins were on top, full baking in the sun!! Nearly had a heart attack as images of squishy looking parts danced in my brain.
Fortunately, they all came at once to the door and sat for mere moments as I had been listening for the delivery.
Looking in the barrel, I think some gray stuff painted black as a plug would do well in there.

One of the messiest yet!
Automatically Appended Next Post: @ Vik, Well, LoER have to be famous for more than just rivets and banter!!
@Dave, Haven't seen that in years! Good find.
@Neil101, Thanks, still gotta stick with my first love......TANKS!!
I mean I do balance with artillery and infantry, but I always come back to the tread-beast of beauty
..In some parts of the Country, a man is apparently judged by the size of his truck. Me, I laugh at them, always at the gas station burning off their 8 mpg! LOL
Hrm... if they judge me by the size of my car I'm screwed I think... european cars are always smaller than their american counterparts. I'd love to get my hands on an original 69 olds 4-4-2 at one time... but that will probably mean going to the US, finding one, and importing it.
did i tell you i am too dumb to drive even? i have no liscence... no joke... but in berlin you hardly ever need a ride of your own... only when you go shopping at IKEA
Some Americans feel all the regulations and rules and laws passed since 9/11 have been trying to castrate the American Male persona, the danglies of the trucks is a way to sya it has not yet happened to them, even though they are obeying said laws anyway, LOL!
Got the supply drop from Dave today! It was an awesome sight to behold! More stuff than I dared even hoped for, I have pics to show all just how much plasticy goodness I have to cut/shape/make/etc with.
Big damn box!
[/img]
All kinds of textures and other materials, now I have struts as well, and tube stocks of all kinds!
[/img]
[/img]
Colors as well.
[/img]
[/img]
I will have to sort and stack according to texture and type!
[/img]
And even some plaster proofs, I am now inspired to get mold materials and make plastic copies. The point I see being these will allow for damaged/rotted, and Post Apocalyptical building supplies
[/img]
Thank you Dave! Many blessing of the Rivet-saint Rosie upon you!

probably the most cynic thing i have read today... heck... all week rather
and yes... that looks like a really cool suply drop from the PC nurse^^
you even got those red thingies... now is the right time to go for terrain building then too!! `°.°´
Well, I cut the 4 panels i need to start the tread section, more to come regarding that later. Meanwhile, I have gotten another Leman Russ painted up and dirty-down. No bar in thge middle of this cannon, but more black is needed down there.

I am also working on a "Manticore" Missile Barrage Unit, and a Thudd-Gun, aka, Quad Launcher for the newer players out there. I have to get the tractor painted/decaled/muddy
Okay, well, I do have a white up-date, and some sad news. Sad news first. I ran out of glue. BUT I did mange to get the basic tread systems done so I can show the scale of the project better to all interested parties.Using a Manticore(Chimera chassis) for scale, it will give the idea of the size of this beast while still showing it is not a super-heavy or a metal monster along the lines of a FW mammoth.
Bracing for the last of my tracks.
[/img]
[/img]
spacers to keep the width, and to strengthen the tracks
[/img]
those tracks look good... and i will remember how you did those frame works for the treads inside... that is a very good idea... together with spacers that helps the assembly quite enormous!!!
Ah, so they are floors I can make into a plan and then add walls. Cool Dave, I have cut out the Aquila, and am looking to also cut and make a =]L= symbol I found the cut for.
