Although I am sad that the piston legs have gone maybe used brass rod for strength next time It is am amazing piece of art this and I would be proud to own such an original piece in my collection

The basing maybe simple but works perfectly and ties in so well (is that the cobblestone sheet you had ?)

I have learnt a load from this and has answered several conundrums concerning my grot tank So BIG THANKS piping and gauges

Have you got the colour scheme in mind, I can see some decent airbrush work coming soon

1. No, sorry, there will be no coal hopper on the back- I want it to have the scissored look,
only the Baneblade and the hellhound have fuel tanks modeled (and it's ammo for the hellhound).
2. Yes, the basing is 1/35 cobblestone streets from Miniart
3. no, it will not have the -=]_,=- logo on it
4. How does the pilot get into and out of a regular Sentinel?
5. Twin-linked Vickers machine guns

Steamheads...check these out!
http://steampunkjewelrybydreamsteam.blogspot.com/2010/07/steampunk-motorcycles.html

If you follow the suggested link, It brings you to this article..
http://steampunkjewelrybydreamsteam.blogspot.com/2010/08/hold-onto-yer-gear-spurs-american.html

Which is great, except I do not agree with the author's statement (paraphrasing) that "everything" in the American West was hand-made", or locally produced. That is a bit of a stretch, the nature of the economy at the time allowed distant settlements or towns and the railroad to transport food first and foremost. Only when Man doesn't have to spend al lhis time gathering food can he ever expand or settle new territories. This is a universal law for all societies. The 19th Century in the westward-expanding US really set the benchmark for long-distance economies. The Sears & Roebuck catalog at the time, allowed you to order specialized farming machinery, household goods, and even an entire house delivered as a giant railroad-delivered kit! Images of those old catalog drawings are completely steampunk in my humble opinion.

What if they misspelled your name?

those gauges are so sweet looking man! and i love how you kept an almost symetric look to the cockpit!

the fact that you had to redo the legs...well i guess it was about to happen as the piston legs have not really enough support in them...maybe if you had cheated and drilled them in so to speak...using tubes with a bit of metal rod inside...then this could have worked...

but the new base looks very good and i am very pleased with the look good sir...you do very well for the league mister!

Agreed

If you're going for a primarily black walker (Black and brass is going to look sweet, btw!), I'd pick a different color for the jacket. That would be a lot of black, IMHO.

i have to second that one...dave it is time for mediocre attempts...!!! you put us all to shame...

well of course... i see your point here... ok... what about making the coat a leather coat? a nice bleached bone base and then go wild with devlan mud in multiple thick layers...that looks later on as if it is greasy and oiled leather...

i am quite thrilled if the glazed look will stay or what comes next!

It would be easier to use an existing game system, than to make one from whole cloth. Having said that...

The Special Operations: Killzone rules really cover, well, a small skirmish-level game, and can handle walkers. It uses 40K weapons, statlines.

There is really only one thing I can nitpick on your walker, which is bad , because it makes me feel phlegmatic and must therefore be bad-mouthed... back to that single piece of criticism: The balance is off, that thing would tip over in an instant.
Great work as usual.

Thanks Baiyuan...But IMHO the whole suspension of disbelief is all part of the steampunk fantasy art Vibe, as opposed to the steampunk "maker" practicality

Although the lines are blurry between the two, and they are by no means mutually exclusive...Steampunk (as we perceive it today) has evolved from both the artistic and practical schools of thought...

I'm with Alfonso (unless, of course, your walker is in the 40k universe: then it would need to be "Since 821.M40" )

You could even paint it in such a way to make it look stamped on! (I do so enjoy giving others cool but impossibly difficult ideas )

Dave,

I think you need to whip out the make-your-own decals kit, print up a "Builder's Plate", and print it out. Paint a brass square or shape, and black lettering (or leave the letters blank and do the reverse lettering trick...on the decal.

A quick Google search of: "locomotive builder's plate" gets a zillion hits like this one:

--B.

Ninija'd! ^^^ Pretty much like that!

Chuck Steingass?

Looking amazing Dave! I think you should incorporate the two ideas! Name of manufacturer, and until name/number.

Unit name/number in large block letters in the middle, with the name of the Forge World arched over the unit desigantion, and the 40k date of original production arched under.

Awesome!

Well, I really hadn't envisioned this thing as 40k to begin with really, more intended to exist in the mid to late 19th century as the creation of a mad Railroad Baron
Historically, in the US the front boiler plate had the engine#, the side of the cab had the train#, and the Road Name was on the coal/wood/oil tender..

Of course different roads did things differently.

Now I want to make a Steampunk Praetorian IG army...

Post by: dsteingass

I know...But I can never seem to find old GW Praetorian figs, but I completely dig the look. I think the Perry Brothers are now doing their own Pith-helmeted 28mm plastics aren't they? -Should be easy converting if they do.

Between my collection of Col.Gravis' Praetroian Rough Riders, my own conversions, Perry Bros' and Victoria Lamb's work...

Yeah, I'm pretty much set.

My debate, as always, is if I want to ditch my current vehicles and build all new Steampunky stuff, or if I want to try and "Stempunk-Up" Chimeras, etc.

And, of course, WYSIWYG is always a consideration.

Well, you can't have artistic freedom AND WYSIWYG rules...If the people you are playing with are THAT anal, the only thing they will be happy with are marines vs. marines...and that type of person is still gonna bitch anyways. I'd rather not play at all than play with or against that kind of nerd...sorry

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/05/02 19:42:05

Post by: Briancj

Well, yes and no. Adepticon showed me that there's definitely some flexibility on the "National Stage". The key for WYSIWYG, going forward in a post-GW-restrictions world, it to make sure that your opponent understands, clearly, "What is what". So, you may have a pair of Vicker's MGs on your Sentinel, but if you consistently use those as a "Multilaser"...no-one is going to care. For me, WYSIWYG is all about conformity. This is always a multilaser, this giant contraption is a Dreadnought, etc. etc.

I had a GREAT game against Dakka Detachment 3 at Adepticon against RiTides' army. An army made up of Starship Troopers miniatures backed up by another company's warmachines being used as Dreadnoughts:

We knew what everything was, and had the pleasure of playing a unique army.

Of course, outside of the Tournament field (where I honestly prefer to play), as long as everyone knows what's going on, and is having a good time, well waaagh it up!

Post by: dsteingass

Well that's good, but I never intended to play the walker in 40k- I have a whole WYSIWYG Catachan army for that

This whole piece is just an artistic experiment.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/05/02 21:07:56

Post by: Briancj

My apologies, WYSIWYG is only applied to my army, as I may take it to Adepticon 2013.

--B.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/05/02 21:15:49

Post by: dsteingass

aw man, no apologies needed...I've only actually played a handful of games of 40k ever, but i've been collecting and painting my army for several years.

I'm too slow, I don't know the rules well enough, I spend too much time flipping back and forth through the books looking things up. That irritates people, so I need another novice to play with to get to know the rules I guess.

..The Catachans continue to grow though

Never finished...never finished.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I'm way more interested in modelling and building, than playing. I mean, I'm building an Ordinatus fer F*cks sake.

Nice Bomber.

I'm hoping to start building up a local campaign group of beer-and-pretzels gamers, who aren't worried about not knowing the page-and-paragraph of all the rules, but want to play to have a good time.

the very fact that you just grabbed the "501" and told us that it was coincidence is just a new way to make you so very much likeable!!! i for one love it when simple solutions still bring the same effect as a long hard thought and way too much meaning in all!!!

by the way... can i make a suggestion dave? i think you should do some billowing smoke for the walker...some cotton wool...hardened with PVA... with your ever growing AB skills i bet you could come up with some awsome effects!!

Interesting drops from the mail today

-The book is fantastic! I would highly recommend it!!
Notice the use of GW bitz

-This White Dwarf is completely uninteresting to me, all Necrons and more of the endless stupid fething marines, a little bit of Empire, but not much. Jervis Johnson gives some surprisingly sage advice in his column, not his usual self-righteous gak. Not a hint at all about 6th edition 40k Issues like this one are the downside to having a subscription.

-The tread plate plasticard really doesn't need explanation

I also found a kit I bought, it's an abs plastic pack, it's got a heap of differing sizes of tube down to thin plastic rods (rivets anyone?) it also has a few L shaped edges I can use for capping terrain, only $16 bucks, hopefully it'll arrive monday then i can do some holo table work and get some opinions!

In the meantime, keep going dude I love seeing what spills forth from that creative mind of yours!

Media and social conditioning. This response from Ashley Judd to the media is a good starting point for what is wrong in society regarding women.

I've had relationships with various types of women and the only one that's ever lasted for me is the one with my current girlfriend. She's bright, motivated, confident, doesn't want kids, and is a total geek in a non-toy-soldiers-and-video-games kind of way. She works as a fashion designer (designs for a handbag company currently) and can explain the construction of any garment, plot it out flat on paper in no time, and can assemble it perfectly. And she's always go a cute outfit on to boot. Add in that we share the same vices, and I'm a very lucky man!

...er...LDD...er...whatever...

hey dave... you liked the movie? i saw it....er...somewhere else...and i think it lacked a certain something.... it had some nice scenes in it...maybe i have to view the english version to get the puns of downey better... but the dubbed version was not my style... loki...a whimp and all... imho next to stark hulk was the real comic relief star of that movie...i just say sidepunch and nothing more
