glominescent ´s stuff is very unique! i follow his thread for quite some time now... his last update is still on my to read list tho will do that asap^^
To better answer Weety's question from before about the Windex that is always present in the background of my painting bench...
But I usually do a few additional steps, because I know how sloppy I can be
-Between fillings of the cup with windex, I wipe out the cup with a rag
-Folding the rag and holding it tight to the nozzle causes backflush and the windex bubbles back out of the cup
-Spraying windex on the regulator cap helps detect a clogged nozzle or loose seal, the air release will blow bubbles
-I use a Citadel Stippling Brush (grey stripe) to clean gunked paint out of the regulator, because that is the only thing on earth that brush is good for.
Automatically Appended Next Post: ..Anyways...time fer sum Dakka!
The ork looks ace - I think you've got the shadowy recesses to the skin down well. Weety's zenithal highlight seems to be a much lighter green than yours - maybe that's what you're seeing that's different? I think he looks great as is, tbh, it's a pretty stylistic choice
Are you planning any OSL for his eyepiece light thing?
oooh a shiny! that looks awesome! not all of us are filthy minded blighters. it think it is a british thing in your subcocscious (feck it i cant spell that today) that it comes out dirty sounding
hey dave... you really need to explain why after years and years of catachan influence and deeds you then switched to munda and now prepare a green tide??? all because of the bomma? hmmm... of course that would be a good choice any day^^
the lil green ape looks quite good...the red tnt bit really helps to make it less dark looking... what have you planned to do about the base?
and i bet you know aim for that extra title as an orkish riveteer^^
and yes... from these still sprued parts the bomma looks quite big...
true but on that same note if you are making the conscious effort to not make it seem unremarkable then your conscious thought of dirty has one by subversion
ah for shame on him for not clairifying cuase i know the simpsons have been on forever and i knew dr who has been on forever bah its him attacking me with his reverse british logic!
dave mighty ork army needs to loot the guard bitz or it gets the hose.
hell if i knew you about a year ago i would have givin all of my ork bitz to you i think i got a head flying about some where and a silly warboss that i keep for sentimental reasons
well the wd did just come out so you could stat crunch or you could always rule of cool.
personally i like the third then the second then the first but thats just me
can never go wrong with a bigger thruster. yea man it is coming together nicely. i was thinking about picking up one of the sky talons for my space marines but im still on the fence about it.
Don't really feel like reading 260 page's worth of dakka, but I read your first page (which AFAIK is edited every so often with updated progress), and all I have to say is nice work, and you have much more of a steady hand and eye for detail than I do I'll try and read the last few pages and carry on from there ^^
BTW I love the steam-train walker
There are also two different styles of flaps to choose from, which change the look of the wing
The wing connected straignt
And this other bit, which serves three different purposes
1. Gives the wing a swept, angled up look (totally MiG Fishbed)
2. Gives a spot for another Supa Shoota
3. Gives another hardpoint for another bomb
HAHAH Trust me!
..tryin' to tink like a propa' Ork 'ere
But I really need to decide what role this fighter will play, you really need to pick one at this point:
This is NOT a DOGFIGHTER kit, remember that, all three options for this kit are all different Ground Support craft- these can be used in regular 40k games, so no need to have an Air-Superiority or anti-aircraft plane, - you need Apocalypse units to really play dogfighting top-gun stuff
Dakkajet- The Most Shooty option:
-the pilot/owner bolts as much Dakka as possible to the plane, and is a better shot because of it (more guns means something is bound to hit) +1 BS vs. non-flyers- This makes an Ork shoot as accurate as any regular human troop BS3.
Burna Bommer-
-Dropping napalm is sooo Orky!
It can drop a S5 AP4 pieplate flamer bomb every turn, and has skorcha missles, which do the same damage, but lg. template at range
Blitza-Bommer:
This is an Orky Stuka dive bomber!
-Drops a s7 ap4 Boom Bomb, and then you roll on a table to see whether you hit the deck, causing a spectacular orky explosion, or pulled up just in time, to all of the above AND your grot rear-gunner gets to pop something on the way up!
Dakka-jet every time imo...for me the others don't suit my style of playing, and tbh, I'd get what they do with other elements of the army. the +1BS is always a good thing with orks lols.
Niice Warhapster!! Very badass sir! - You work quickly!
I was thinking that front grill could hold MOAR DAKKA myself, but I liked the turbocharger intake, it was too comical and OTT and completely unnecessary for me to pass up
I'm so proud of you Brian!! Drop me a link to the thread that covers your builds!!
I'm not sure I'd start a new thread. Once the Ordinatus is finished, my plog thread will be switching over to OMFG AIR FORCE.
Note: Did not buy any Necron fliers. I can't bring myself to buy Necrons. In fact, I should really sell off the ones I have (bought and painted pre-Codex) since, in the new codex, they're all absolutely useless.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also... Sat here watching Aliens... you know Like Papa Nid does... and wondering if I should do a converted Rhino/Immolator for my sisters of battle, based on the APC in Aliens... Hummmmmm

Thank you, I finished it on Monday(6/4/2012) I was lucky enough to get it only a few minutes after the store put it out on Friday, and immediately started on it. The first time I have taken time off to paint something of mine in a long time.
darn... yet another weekend and i miss out on so much....
that figher sure looks stunning! how do you will work on further after that black lining? then with a regular brush? or with the detail AB?
and i second the need to see loyal imerial versions of this kit... heck if i had the money i would be demoulding the kit already... i think it looks beautiful and with all these option i hope you will soon built a nice tank from scratch to use up all these nice leftovers dave! you hear me?!!!
slacking ...darn... yeah i plead guilty on that one... we had a day out in the zoo... just the kids and me... wife stayed at home... boy... that was a walk and a half... i was totally pished after that... and the kids went to sleep way easy^^ after that i went zombie in front of the telly and let the day slip...well thanks for the backslap then
and mate... you know you want to make a dave (tm) tank...there is no stopping to do this... for this i even allow you to get yourself some tracks so you don´t have to make themn on your own
i have already ceased with the nudgings to get gim to cast his stuff... but the need to see dave make his own tank is something i think we have to make a petition for...!!!
why is it that i still have to look up certain words you lot chuck out at me...??? my teach never told me of "ornery ".... well then... get painting... we don´t need you to be the grumpy old man here^^
lol... well i bet they get good money from the companies that get stared in those reviews... so they will protect their milking cows... everyone that is working for money gets corrupted eventually^^
And me showing Bommer progress on my thread as well. It has shipped, I wonder how long it take to deliver? I mean I am in WV and their US base is Maryland. Just one state between us.
the orky skin on these looks the best so far you did... hope you know this?
and i really like where you are flying this bird...^^ only question stays... when will you turn this sparkling plane into the true orky flying ruin it has to become?
looking good so far dude... btw, are you going to be gaking yourself when it comes to battle damage like Ironman?
Odd question for you all... does anyone else other than me think GW's weathering and battle damage leaves a lot to desired in the 'Eavy metal teams stuff... I was looking through this months White Dwarf, and someones weathered a white scars bike with mud... but not the riders... yes, because they keep their armour so shiney mid battle

sorry, makes me mini cringe lols.
I know what you're talking about, on the show models the team seems to be very inconsistent with their weathering, and it isn't always the most realistic.
Its something thats bothered me for years... no one seems to bother looking at how things weather... and pristine SM's... eeeeeesh worst modelling idea ever!!!!
dsteingass wrote:I saw that on the White Scars...and in one shot, one muddy bike next to two clean ones!
^ See... Sense... GET SOME GW!!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Yeah I know Dave, but even the 'Eavy metal teams stuff that I've seen at Warhammer World are all shiney and pristine... looks a tad gay... it's like they have a million minions not depicted all carrying J-cloths and Windex...
With regards to GW making no sense, If you look through the BA codex there are some major inconsistencies. Different colour chest eagles, darker reds for one squad..... and so on. Its... its... its sad *cries*
My Mangalorks will love this plane! I just found it has left Tennessee? but is on the UPS system and will likely end up across the street! Silly lazy UPS guys!
I think the bomma needs a lot of battle damage as well as lots of panels being different shades of red... Orks arent exactly known for their painting prowess
AnUnearthlyChilde wrote:I think the bomma needs a lot of battle damage as well as lots of panels being different shades of red... Orks arent exactly known for their painting prowess
I tend to paint in patches thick and thin over black primer for my ork vehicles as they are so sloppy.
AnUnearthlyChilde wrote:Yeah that makes a lot of sense Shas
Yep, Imean would they really care if some black shows through in places? It can depend on the Orks and how they may see that "Red Paint Job" Laid on thick, like Dave, or haphazard like mine, it still makes it go fasta!
Three metallic colors actually Tin Bits and Brass Rail
I'm NOT doing a half-assed paintjob, sorry, but if you'll kindly wait until it is done, there will be more orkyness to it than you can shake a shoota at.
Thanks TS! once I pick up a couple more of these kits, I will definately be converting a grot to be riding one like a bull
Automatically Appended Next Post: @Childe- with a thing like this, you really need to paint it to look brand new first, then weather and damage it down after decals. It takes time, but soon.
You have one of the most -schizophrenic- eclectic approaches to this hobby that I've ever seen, and everything you've done has been really well done. Steampunk Lascannon to Ork Bommas in how short a timeline? And the sheer amount of genuine productivity is staggering.
Great work all around. Looking forward to seeing what madness you come up with next.
Oh, I know the approach Dave is taking, but I will have to show what I did to my battlewagon and stompa to show what approach I take for my orks and their "Painting style" I swear, I must be channeling an Ork Mek when I work on any machine of da Ladz!
oh no..I wasn't knocking anybody or their style, not at all.
I was just commenting that I like to paint things as they are fresh off the showroom floor before I weather it down. If I do weathering out of sequence, I always forget something. It's just more or less my process.

Yeah I get it. You work the way I do for my tanks, show room quality finish, then add the scratches, dings, dust and mud etc.
For my Orks though I go all sorts of haphazard, willy-nilly and chaotic as if I were an actual Ork slapping the stuff together and then slopping the paint unevenly all ofer it!
Hey D, I gotta say. I dont play orks anymore. But this..... this amazing peice of kit, and your amazing paintjob. Is inspiring me so much, I think I may need to pick one of these up.
Well, aside from the badly applied red paint job my oprks will give my finished bommer, it will also get a "Lucky bloo" racing stripe! as all my red painted vehicles get.
these checkers look very good... i bet you have been totally cramped by doing this... i know i would... but i just love these!!!
and i can wait... just i don´t wanna
lol...
what additional color do you want to include to that scheme by the way? i like the idea of adding blue into the mix... heck why not do something to get a twisted version of a stars and stripes on that bird? or try a lil freehand and do the ork cheerleader as a sort of freak pinup
alabamaheretic wrote:looks good for factory fresh man, cant wait to see it dinged and scratched
Thanks, but we still are not there yet.

Thanks Man!- My GF suprised me yesterday and ordered 2 more kits for me! - Now I will have a WING of them to harrass my Marauder Destroyer, which means I will need a couple of FW Thunderbolts to fly escort - This will turn into a huge Imperial Vs. Orks Cold War!

I think I will add "Go Fasta" stripes to one of the other two! Good idea

Yeah definately some on the tail, we'll just have to see what the paintboyz are in the mood for

Same here. Of course w/ my Nurgle stuff I use GS etc, but the first paint job is "straight from the shop" and then I proceed to mess it up from there.
Yep Skalk...That is really the proper way to do it, at least in every modeling book I have read.
I don't think my readers realize that the base paintjob isn't done yet. Even Orky aircraft would have to be somewhat maintained to be able to keep flying.

2 more!! Your painting 2 more!? No! I dont think my wallet can take it!
First..Here is the bEST painjob on a Bommer that I have seen to date!
http://alariccantonain.canalblog.com/ It's all in French, so I have no idea what it says..but scroll down and look at the pics!
that flying fortress is awesome...brings forth a whole new side to the game... dogfights.... well this is utterly cool!
and the first model is surley a scratchbuild?
the yellow one i find particular intriguing.,.. somehow i think yellow is atm one of my favorite colors...tho it is THE royal painters pain^^...
and i somehow assumed it would have been an ork model...the thunderbolt well this would look too awesome if one could do such a scene...
Personally, while its a cool idea Dave... I think the bommer kits main fuselage is too fat for it to look right... maybe for the central pilot fuselage it'd work, but I think it'd be a question of scratch building the other two booms as they are much thinner!
I'm also been musing plans to convert a stormtalon, by extending its tail section and lengthening the wings, but also reconfiguring the weapons hard points... the whole thing for me is a tad confusing to look at, and it really doesn't look like its capably of flying
at dave yellow with AB is one hell of a good choice i say!!!
and childe... that stromtallon could fly... if i toss it at the next wall... i think this is again one epic failure for the SM... drives me further away from ever competing my SM army... really... after the fling brick we get a brick looking fly...do i sense a pattern here?
personally i blame the first flying brick the storm raven.
on the topic of cool planes liken them pretty good the fighter with the guns is too much looks great teeth are a nice touch (its still to clean though) yours is gonna prolly look a lot better
Well, the one bommer is likely smaller than the scratchbuild, so this will help me finish the scratchy one, and oh man can't wait to them paint 'em both!
True Skalk... but I'm still going to extend its tail section and lengthen the wings while angling them down. it just makes more aerodynamical sense to me tbh...
Viktor von Domm wrote:aerodynamical sense for a kit that has the whole mass stored with the cockpit and some frilly bitz attached that others would call count as wings^^
Lol, The Apache and Cobra hardly look like they can fly either, but they do... and don't even get me started on the housing block that is the Hind-D
dsteingass wrote:I REALLY like that idea Childe! Go for it!
Ceramite White is AWESOME!
ONE coat!!!
It'll be some time Dave before I do... I really need to get 1500pts of my nids bought before I go too much more off the beaten track (says the guy who's bid £50 on 20 SoB )
The ceramite looks awesome!!!... I'm going to try some pre weathering at some point (using masking fluid over pre painted battle damage)
Nice checker board work all over that jet. I have tried and tried to do checkerboard. No matter what some one says, it isn't easy. Mine always looks like a kindergarden kid did the paintjob for checker boards.

Facile, avec Google. Si c'est trop dur ou si vous êtes paresseux.
Here are this week the release of some flying vehicles plastic at GW. I bought a plane ork. About this kit: First, this kit is of excellent quality. The leaflet is comprehensive and error-free, installation is thereby greatly facilitated, especially since the box can be mounted three different devices to choose from, with modular positioning fins, a diversity in the appearance wings, and a choice of glass. Tip for dakkajet: Note that it is not shown how to add the super-extra dakka on dakkajet. There's two options: use the basic weapons of Blitza wing (but it changes the silhouette of the aircraft) or insert the dakka supernumerary entries side reactors. This is the best number of clusters / price among the new features: three for two clusters in the Stormtalon and Nightscythe. So there is promise of rabiots (Bitz or if you prefer), and this promise is kept. Indeed, it is entitled to a few head of pilot ork grot and used more, and a turret and cabin additional plates. Parts I mounted two military models orks up, and being painted.
Note a few touches of humor in the kit, as the central pad and the anchor chain for landing (who spoke about realism?), The son of the electric cabin, some of which are cut, the driver and his scarf flies in the wind (so cliche), the turret to the big fling Blitza Bommer whose firing angle is reduced to the rear stabilizer ...
For painting, I followed the same pattern with two dominant colors (blue and white) for the Chassa-Bomba showed there shortly. Missiles and bombs are red, and I added some black and yellow chevrons on the wings and fins to break up the color code. Canopies in red to add a focal point. Some views of the pilot and grot:
Then ends with a joke.
Assembly time: 2 hours. Time to paint: a very big day (12 hours).
Ok, I paint very fast. Blame the XP accumulated over twenty years.
No Filipinos or Chinese in my cellar, Mr Pestilus.
That's a really nice job on the checkers. I'm going to have to try out the new GW paints then. I'm out of white and black paint anyway (except for my Tamiya which I don't particularly like) so this is an excellent time to give it a try.
I think the Abaddon Black will replace my all-time favorite Polly-S Steam Power black from now on. GW really made the right decision with the new paint mfr.
Just got my Bommer! Has any one else noted that of all the races in 40k, the Orks understand the rule of aerodynamics by using a rounded leading edge on their wings?
The Imperials all use wings as straight edged as a wall!
Yay! I\m cought up on this thread now! I've missed so much..
The lasgat looks freaking ace Dave I just have to let you know that.
And the orks are top notch. Just amazing. Love the checkers.
The one thing that I was wondering was if you are going to attempt to pain some sort of pin-up on it. Or maybe a pilot crest? I had also thought that you could put differnt stamps on him signifying his kills. Little tanks and planes?
Those look like a useful bunch of Resin! A little expensive IMHO though.
Automatically Appended Next Post: ..As for the Nose-Art question...I DO want to do nose art on the next bommer kit (2 more are on the way!), but not on the same plane as the checkerboard pattern.
I gave the whole thing a liberal bath of Agrax Earthshade (devlan mud, brown wash) I think tomorrow night that I will add some fine highlights around panel lines with orangish-red, then maybe some airbrush soot and probably call this one finished eh?
Oh my gawd... dave...you ruined it!!! it looks so wasted... all that god money... put to...wait for it...good use
the scratches looks nasty and as if that pilot is used to tackle other aircrafts instead leaving the taken down work to his gunners
cool work mate...
also...using the white decals for the kills was a good decision!!! and are there signs of sponge weathering? or how did you weather the smaller sections?
by the way... seeing the checkered parts...you see why you have to do the showroom paintjob first and then ruination after that... it would simply look not the part the other way around!!!
Looks cool. I'm surprised it's killed so many other aircraft. When I think Orks and vehicles first thing that always comes to mind is ramming the hell out of the enemy with it.
Viktor von Domm wrote:also...using the white decals for the kills was a good decision!!!

I don't know about those kill tallies I don't think you should be able to display them until you have earned them
They're Orks it could even be previous owners that were bashed and had it taken from them. Or even count the number of grots sucked into the intake when it started or ran over on the run way. Kills are kills.
n0t_u wrote:They're Orks it could even be previous owners that were bashed and had it taken from them. Or even count the number of grots sucked into the intake when it started or ran over on the run way. Kills are kills.
Maybe they're the number of hours that Dave spent on this beaut
I am not a fan of the water release decals but on yours there is not telltale glistening-ish edge around them. Did you wash or anything else with paint over them?
There's a very simple technique to make decal edges go away. You apply gloss varnish to the surface, let it dry, lay down the decal, then matte varnish over it (ie: the spray varnish you typically apply, anyways.
Advanced techniques include using, as Dave mentioned, the products Microsol and Microset.
Microsol 'softens' the decal plastic, allowing it to settle into crevices, mold over curves forms (shoulder pauldrons, for example...)
Microset 'sets' the decal, making it adhere to the surface.
I still apply varnish down before using sol/set, but that's me.
If you are going to add oil-paint weathering though, a gloss varnish is essential, the oil paint is much easier to feather and blend over the smooth varnish. oil-paint weathering can create an amazing look if done properly, the only downside is that it can take DAYS to dry.
Sometimes I forget how well you paint. That is an excellent job. Wow. The weathering is perfect, I love the diminishing taper streaks from front to back on the wings.
Thanks Skalk! I could paint it even more, but I'm almost out of patience with this one It's about time to move on methinks- but I still have some highlights to do yet.
