Thanks Bama! I've got to finish those tankbustas I started before this kit sidetracked me What next? I dunno- Still no LEDs for the SeaView, so I dunno.

I'll Wait to base the Dakkajet until The other two kits are done and ready for basing- much easier to do them all at the same time.

boo on the lack of leds. yea you should prolly do some tank bustas as i should prolly do some marines that have been staring me down for the better part of 3 months

I for one do not think that Ork stuff needs highlights. That would imply there being a clean spot on the vehicle that is shiney enough to cast a glare.

Ork skin can get highlights, I mean even if they are dirty, they sweat right? Sheen = glare = highllight.

As for the Bomma, I haven't commented yet because words escape me. It looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! you could go futher, and add some discoloration to the guns and ehaust pipes, maybe some oil leaks here and there streaking back across the wings or fusilage, but you will still blow the minds of anyone who sees it. I say keep it as is.

Oh, and if I buy one of these, will you paint it for me?

Post by: dsteingass

Thanks Jake! Sure I'll paint one! - My next two will utilize the airbrush more, save me some time with the brushwork. I wanted to use the color sequence from this month's WD to see how well it would turn out
It already has highlights..If you look closely, you will see orangish-red around the panel lines- without those, it would not pop, so SOME highlights are necessary, but perhaps more would be too distracting?

Post by: RSJake

Hmmmm, maybe on a few panels, like where a grot was thrown in anger, and "accidentally" wiped a part of the aircraft clean.

I haven't heard of Chaos getting any new flyers, and I really don't like the ones they have:

I thought maybe I could Chaos-ify one of these Bommas.

hmm...I've never painted chaos stuff before.

you do realize that your painting skills have gone places? you are far further away from your once ago painting style when you painted your catachan force... really...i don´t try to sweeten here anything...

so have you got any clever plans for the base?

and what´s with the artistic picture taking? i swear you are going all professional now on us...the nerve...

Haha- Thanks Vik! It's all about reading, and practicing, but I really appreciate it my friend!

I don't know about the base yet Vik, It's better to base all three planes at the same time..later

When I started this blog (still less than a year ago) I couldn't take pictures for gak remember? -I am using the same Canon Powershot camera, but I suppose I have finally learned how to use it! but, The OTT daylight lamp I got is really the winner.

well... for me the whole thread serves as a short cut for reading... you read all these expensive books... i read your musings and what not^^ and i feast upon it^^so one day i can do this eventually too^^

yeah... daylight... argh... one of these days^^

as for the base... may i throw an idea in the ring...? try some cotton wool stiffened with PVA to make nice fluffy clouds... and have them bommas soar above the clouds... free orks... ^^

You have done an amazing job on that plane. The red looks really good. Did you use the new GW paints on this? I'm so tempted to pick up some of the Ork flyers for my Fiancee's ork army.. but since shes got loads to paint I'll just have to spend that money on stuff for me

Great work, Dave! I admire your commitment to realism when it comes to your small, plastic, aliens from the distant future
In all seriousness, I think it's the little things like "dem new teef and metl' plates" that make a model awesome. Keep it up!
I'm not completely sold on the harrier look yet, but I look forward to seeing what you do with it!

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/17 18:27:12

it can still scream lols... the only reason I suggested the Lightning was because the only problem I have with the Ork bommer kit is the lack of interchangable noses, I always liked the recessed snub nosed version

and I refuse to start an ork army just to do it lols

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/17 18:28:37

how would you go about making it rounded if you were to do it? just out of curiosity lols

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/17 18:31:47

Post by: dsteingass

But it needs to be open, unless you are going to sculpt new intakes for the big jet engine.

Rounded, likr to a point? Well I guess I'd bend interlocking layers of thin PC to start with, for orky justs, just add rivets and it's believeable, for something needing to be smoother, you'd almost need to vacu-form over a master carving or something.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/17 18:35:54

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

I've seen bigger jets with smaller intakes tbh... look at the F-22 and its sister aircraft.

well couldnt you do like vik and use the nose cone from a bottle rocket. not saying actual bottle rockets will work but the bigger rockets with the plastic nose cones just to shape maybe?

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

The british Hawk Jetfighter trainer craft:

it has twin intakes for one engine, which don't look that dissimilar from the bommer tbh. and its wing intakes are proportionally the same as the Hawk it seems.

but thats just me lols, I guess everyone sees this kind of thing differently

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/17 18:50:03

ahh..Those twin intakes are for the thrusters on the bomma...extra engines

Yep, the bomb holes...There is a triangular alignment slot you would need to trim off, and yes one side has the flaps molded in, but otherwise, no the wings are reversible

that also makes sense lols...

I'm trying to do an Inquisitorial retinue based around Rogue trader Xenos... theres a couple of figures that'll be converted like the inquisitor, the tri-bane (ethreal beings = counts as death cultists) and the penitent-man (tru-scale SM with physical inhibitor = counts as acolyte), Explorator-biologists (counts as acolytes), the rest will either be Rogue trader stuff: Deiurg, Jokaero, Gyrinx. or new stuff: Astropath (IG imperial advisor).

tis a nice little side project to do tbh while I'm building up my nids, plus they'll act as the Protectorate of Calliope VI, along with my SoB Order of the Sacred Rose conclave.

Once I had separate threads, but it was too much of a pain in the balls to keep up and keep everything separated. I'd change the name of the thread, but I don't really want to. This is my P&M blog, you get whatever I am doing at the moment.

politics..meh..I only point out the hatemongers trying to make people hate people they did not hate 4 years ago.
Religion... I'll keep my opinions to myself
My mother...she is a sweet lady, but my stepdad watches Fox News, and so she has fallen victim to the afforementioned hatemongering.
The Beatles..say what you want about their music (Childe and I differ on opinion here) but that being said, Without John Lennon speaking of Peace and Love on TV, we would ALL be a lot more Fascist than we are today. The social change of the 1960s cannot be undone, and THAT I am truly thankful for!

Fair enough dave, thought I'd ask... as I said, I have to keep you on your toes

what are you going to use as your shade/wash/weathering for the cracks?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/21 15:58:18

Post by: dsteingass

Well, it is already washed with Fuegan Orange shade, If I need darker I'll use Didi's Magic ink or nuln oil or agrax earthshade, I won't know what it needs until I sit down to paint more though. You can't really plan it, you just have to see what it needs and do it.

Black works really well for yellow paint, it seems it would work well for orange too, but I dunno..this is all experimental at this point. I may decide to start all over yet..I dunno.

Have you considered a very deep red-black for the recesses? might add as a heavy but nice contrast between the panels.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/21 17:08:22

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

Most any color trimmed w/ black (or black trimmed w/ most any color) seems to work well w/ Orks.

Post by: dsteingass

I did pick up some red wash too...hmmm..maybe

..You still have to do it in layers though, rule of thumb is always to shade light to dark.

in other hobby news, GW have pre orders up on wayland games for the new 6th ed stuff, release date 30th June... Psychic cards? Vehicle Damage dice? does this mean 6th ed is more like 2nd/3rd ed? this may be a good thing possibly...

If the tracks are for building a malcador tank, then there isnt a set nuumber of tracks... the ones that are in contact with the surface are fixed in place, and the plastic ones fit irregularly. tis my only irk with the malcador kit, and one they havent fixed tbh either...
