Isn't that the Imperial Palace gates?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/23 13:31:44

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

i wouldnt have thought it was the imperial palace... as their gates are as tall as a warlord class titan...

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/23 13:33:49

Post by: SagesStone

I just thought the gate itself was the bottom left and it was showing the bridge to it. It is missing the titan guards though so probably isn't anyway.

Post by: dsteingass

The biplane HAD to be done...And that is a badass biplane too! -Valk engines on the side..very cool

That's not the Golden Gate..that's just a common average Imperial City

That biplane is freaking win!!!

As to the city, i suspect it is terra as there are custodes in the bottom left. However, i highly doubt its the palace gates, itll just be a random place on terra. Captures the look of a 40k city for me perfectly though.

Xuron...It's a brand of tools...damn good tools too!

The big nips are for cutting HO and N scale brass track cleanly and without burrs and dingleberries, but WE know what it will be used for!

LOL..no Jeeping- I drove The Jeep to Ohio, and to the game shops, and back

It was a beautiful day, top off, doors off, just like this pic. But that badass lift kit it has makes it rough-riding at 65 MPH, more like riding a V8 horse

and mate... did i ever tell you that i would have loved to own such a cavemans dream of a car... too bad i am dumb as a log to get my drivers liscense^^...spent way too much money on that only to realize i cant keep my eyes focused on the street enough... i am better suited as a aide in the car as a driver myself... but boy that jeep wrangler is such a cool looking thing... well my wife gets hysterics when she thinks about gas and such things... but i think you americans still get your gas for free

Post by: dsteingass

HAHAHA..Hardly..I paid $3.43/gallon today in Ohio (less taxes there than Indiana)-But it isn't very fuel-efficient, so it sits in the garage unless it is a nice day out like today

I also found this OOP kit in the back of a back shelf, I was soo excited I always wanted one, but it was a limited run thing- This is for a LATER project

Cheap too! $57!! after discounts and some sucker-punching negotiation!
They didn't know they had it in stock, and it wasn't in their computer- price tag said $75!

Except the rules for the Ork flyers are nerfed for air-to-air combat for some reason. The only modifiers given are for "non-skimmer" vehicles. I can only speculate that the purpose of that rule was to make them only viable as infantry support in regular 40k games. Although if they would give us a nice plastic Thunderbolt fighter, we could easily run a 40k scale game of "Bommers over da Sulphur River"

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ok...small misake- I just read it again...the Dakkajet has to buy a 10 pt UPGRADE called "Fighta Ace" to get +1 BS vs. Skimmer types

Otherwise, it would be a turkey shoot (for the Human BS3!) IMHO - Since the Dakkajet gets the +1 BS vs. non-skimmers by default with "Strafing Run"

...The Blitza Bommer drops a pieplate, but the Burna Bommer would not be able to do any damage except to the Athena's crew eh?

What do you guys (with more playing experience than I) think?- Would this game be do-able?

because they are skimmers, wouldn't it be a problem if the juets didn't move, just sat there and shot turn after turn? -You'd almost need to change the turn sequence a bit..

After every turn, roll a scatter dice and 1d6" banking for planes?

1. Ork approach (movement)
2. Athena's long range shooting (Overwatch)
3. Athena launches fighters (movement)
4. Dogfight (Shooting)
5. Ork Assault (Shooting, Bombing, Burning)
6. Athena's short range defenses get a shot (shooting)

Or something simplified?

I heard that myself, Rogue. And the total Mosterous Creature overhaul sounds pretty scary also!

I think the worst thing that I've heard about 6e so far is AP in CC, with Power weapons only AP 3. Terminators just got VERY hard to kill.

Bargain much?!

tbh the sprue thing is usually to do with the fact when cast they are one piece with a "snap" section so they break into two to be boxed. they don't want half kits laying about so its easier to write an entire box off for tax than to attempt to write half a box off for tax. Logical? not really, but don't complain too much

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 01:48:31

Yeah Dave, they will as for some codes off the box and then they will ship you a fresh replacement,,,,it is weird how they do it, just accept the fact that you will be up to your armpits in Orks.

The Trukk Sprue is full-sized, not a half sprue. Nowadays everything is weighed, but this box has an extra Loota half sprue, so that was probably how it happened.

Techno Chicken, Weathering, impossikill Nids?

Must spend three days reading now...

Be back later.....

Must get bottle of water first.....

@ Not_U- grots can always be added later, currently I am building my collection of 40k and Fantasy grot/gretchin miniatures for silly uses later.

@Max- Techno Chicken..what?

@Klaus- My update speed isn't the issue, it's the random unrelated banter that makes it hard to follow. I don't know why nids are always being talked about here, I have none of them, and really have no interest in them, however I have incubated a free and creative environment here, so when people are being creative they talk about things

Also look at the gnoblars then, it's basically a box of grots just for random fun.

Then of course there's the "king" (bottom right).

Kind of sad he's finecast now in a way...

I don't see any problem with finecast at all, when they redo the old metals in finecast, the price is lower than the old metals. People just need to accept change IMHO.

Had to delve back a bit to actually find the plane, but amazing job! The subtle flames really sell the paintjob, and I really like the silhouette you gave it. Zinge's landing gear is look ace too. Kudos all round! You get some extra servitor chow today

Not always true. IG Creed and Kell, when converted, went into separate blisters, and you pay $10 more for the two of them now.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 15:04:52

Post by: dsteingass

I NEVER pay retail price, so my Finecast Creed and Kell were a lot less....The detail is a lot finer on those two in Finecast though, you have to admit.

Where I shop online I get 25% off of GW stuff... the only downside is amount of patience you need as you wait for your delivery...

My last major purchase (A total of seven of the new flyers) was purchased at a quiet discount of 40%.

I understand that the discounted market is why GW is raising their prices, but it is an awful catch-22/vicious circle.

However! This is thread de-railing! I have enough Valkyries, now, to fight an air war with your Ork Jets!

I think it is the title unfortunately dude, if it was something along the links of "The Necromunda Project & Frinds" or some such shizz people would swallow the lack of 'munda stuff easier. but tbh, for me, it makes no difference. Because for all =]_= infected threads, none of them stay on their title topic. if its that much of a problem people should move on...

(sorry if that sounded too harsh, but someone had to say it)

Post by: Briancj

Dave, keep it as one thread. I've tried doing multiple threads, and you get tired of chasing them all down.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 18:12:19

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

Yeah, I agree with Biran. more than one P&M thread starts to get mental... then you end up answering a question on one thread which was asked on the other, although that just sounds like the usual =]_= shizz

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 18:19:41

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

I do individual threads because it's how I keep things separated. At the same time, I only have three focuses (Death Guard, Chaos Cult, Terrain) and I have one more (Old miniatures) that I post on when I find something old I haven't seen in a long time.

People like me are always going to look for more Necromunda awesomeness from you. When you pull out the plasticard and rods again I'll be right there cheering you on. But bottom line is it is YOUR time, YOUR interest, and YOUR thread.

People tell me to get back to work on my Cult or my DG, and I respect the interest for sure, it's just not what I'm putting effort into right now. So I get it.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 19:12:17

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

atm, I don't have the equipment to make one, and to get someone else to do it would cost too much unfortunately. plus the PP one doesnt support the ability to hold gw large oval bases. which sucks... otherwise I'd have got one lols.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 19:18:32

Just magnetize your bases and carry them on a metal tray or something. There are lots of tuts out there on magnetizing bases.

NP..Sometimes simple is better

Do you get those flexible refrigerator magnets from businesses like pizza places? That sheet-type magnet works well for plastics..you may need rare earth magnets for heavier metal or FW resin models though..

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/06/26 19:38:57

Post by: AnUnearthlyChilde

thats something we dont seem to get over here unfortunately... tis quite odd... but I know the material you mean, so I may be able to track some down. FW stuff from experience doesnt seem to move about on trays, tis too damn heavy lols...

Battlefoam makes a portable tray system, designed to breakdown into a carrying case. It has no pre-made 'slots', which makes magnetizing or building scenery into it much easier.

also showed my wife the architectual kits... didn´t you say your better half likes theses? they look very cool...

well we had fun in the shop... but in the end we only bought two lil bags of these collectibles... we had the flower power hippy and the valkyrie^^ (a bit short on money... but hopefully soon this will be over with me being one with the other labourers^^)

So much of the kit is MiG inspired, but you could make the wings and tail like an F-86 Sabre to some degree. My Dakka jet is set up to resemble a MiG-15/17. Adding the bubble turret makes it look another way, and so will the fixed gun to the rear arc position as it is similar to early WW-II dive bomber positions as the Dauntless/Val/Stuka style.

As far as an easy build customizable army display board system... I highly reccomend modular picture frames + black foam board as a base. They are easily sized and customizable. Also VERY light for their size.

I also started working on a wall tile the height of the small pillar with a separate castable window bit,

and I am going to design some buttresses to cover the gaps:

Anyone have any more ideas for patterns, panels, or anything else?

If you had these to yourself as a sort of terrain LEGO set, what else would you want for parts?

Great picture btw. Necro terrain looks great, especially the grime/weathering.

Well it's Imperial so the first sort of fits the theme nicely. How important is the building to be?

Off the top of my head and a quick search. Not sure if it helps too much, but I like the look of it.

Thanks CT- Check out Page 1 for a summary of all finished pics!

@Not_U-

It is a building block set, you can make a small Imperial Sewage Treatment plant, or a huge Palace or Cathedral, your choice

I need to design basic parts before I can get into all the detail bitz though...so start with basics.

btw..If someone can draw symmetrical, proper gothic arch windows like shown in Not-U's pic, I can cut them..I just have trouble doing the math to get the drawing correct.

they are a selected portion of a "venn" type circular overlay pattern.

Yeah I know..But mine never come out right..

Anyways..please excuse the rough sketch..I didn't have time to build it to scale or paint it

Or a third solution I just thought of...just place all of the walls on top of floor tiles? Then it becomes a non-issue

Also makes the floor tiles a modular basing option.

Ahahahahaha! Nice one Doc!

I like the tiles, and the columns, and when I first saw the window section, I just assumed you made them the same hieght as the small columns on purpose, so you could put them on the tiles, and they would mesh up.

And yes, the buttress sketch looks like it could work well!

Yeah..the small column is slightly a bit taller, so I gave the wall section an extra 1/4" to allow room for greeblies

The Pillar bases fit inside a 1 1/2" square floor tile perfectly too. I think you can see that on an earlier pic.

Those tiles look excellent!

Even on small pieces it's really obvious the thought you are putting into it and how you expect them to go together. I can see numerous applications already.

Not trying to derail, just remebered I wanted to do this- Found a new Dakka guy, Ork player, very talented conversions with a unique (bizarre, even?) visions. Figured people would like his work and I'm always looking to help the modeling community grow closer. Since everyone seems to play here the most I'm sharing it here.

Love the sketches Dave, you were obviously an architect in another life

btw, I need your collective advice... do you know slang/swear words used in 40k books other than Feth/Fething? if so, what are they?

Feth, Gak are both from the Gaunt's Ghost series

Feth doesn't really mean wht we think it to mean on Tanith, but Tanith is gone, so they have adapted.

A Missle Launcher is called a Treadfether

They use Frak in the Caiphas Cain novels, but he is attached to a Valhallan Regiment.

And Thanks Childe...If I could go back in time and choose Architecture over IT I would do it in a heartbeat methinks
