If that was aimed at me, then this will be the third time I've watched the series all the way through. The first time I watched it was back when it was first shown in the UK on Cartoon Network's Toonami. A few years ago, I was going through a phase of looking up old TV shows that I didn't exactly understand when I was watching them, and Gundam Wing was one since I wasn't really into politics at the age it was on TV. So I watched it on youtube, but there were a few parts of episodes missing. So now I've got it all on DVD, and I'm watching it through again. Next to Doctor Who and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, it's one of my most favourite television series ever.

Anyone else think Gunslinger Girl was a bit... odd? I mean, maybe it's the fact I've hung around with real Italians, but the characters all REALLY seem like Japanese people transplanted to Italy.

Maybe it just sticks out to me more than usual.

The first season of Gunslinger Girl was amazing, I personally loved it. I love shows where things go horribly wrong and everybody gets fethed over or dies ( ideon, V Gundam, Legend of the Galactic Hero's, Elfen Lied, Genocyber) as I keep saying poor poor Claes and Angelica =o\

I haven't watched Claymore, but if everyone gets horrible killed or fethed over I might have to check it out.

Went back and re-watched the original two series. (Which I'm betting will be rehashed in this one, since it's a retelling) You may notice the main character pick up a fork and have The Crawling Chaos jump away like he's brandishing an Elder Sign. This is due to him frequently stabbing her in the hand with on as punishment in the original web cartoons and is something of a call back (or possibly brick joke).

Anime she wanted to watch: Angel Beats, Ouran High School Host Club, Ponyo

Just finished watching Outlaw Star, havn't seen it since grade school and was never able to finish it till now. Not half bad, story was pretty cool. The only problem I would say is there was never any real drama, like any situation where it looked like Gene wouldn't win. Like towards the end each episode almost became a copy of the previous, were an enemy would appear and gene and the crew would just take em, on to the next episode. Very predictable if you ask me. But still not to bad.
Also watched the 00 movie, Trail blazers or something like that? Anyways I thought it was pretty terrible, very disappointed with the way that movie went. So bad in fact that I don't even acknowledge its existence, the series ends with the 2nd season in my opinion.
An finally I watched Grave of Fireflys :( No idea why I decided to do that, so so so sad. Was good, definitely good. But also probably the saddest animated movie I have ever seen. There are few others that I have seen that were able to really reach out to the viewer like that one

I just finished watching Black Rock Shooter (the TV series) and that was awful. Quite possibly the worst anime I've ever seen. In fact I'd say its worse than MD Geist. At least MD Geist you can laugh at because its so low budget and its only 45 minutes. Black Rock Shooter was about a bunch of whiny crazy girls who are on the verge of going insane. Then nothing happens at the end. Seriously I didn't get the ending at all. There was nothing to get in fact besides the fact that if you are a rainbow colored bird you will die and that pink is the color of sneezes.

I'm going to make fun of this anime for months to come.

The OVA in my opinion was a bit better only because it had less running time than the TV show and wasn't as unnecessarily convoluted as the TV show was. That being said the OVA wasn't a great piece of anime either. It was really boring and to be honest I found myself only caring when they showed BRS. I cared nothing for Mato's part of it at all.

Never seen Puni Puni Poemi.

I watched the Ghost In The Shell remake, and it's tantamount to blasphemy. I can get over the decision to change the dominant colours from cold green/blue to warm orange, but the scene where they render the Major in full CGI - despite every other character being hand drawn - was a baffling misjudgement.
The remixed sound is a triumph however, and just about saves this work of indulgence.

Ghost In the Shell 2.0 (I missed it's release thinking that it was to be titled GitS 1.5, and confused it with the actual sequel), more of an augment than a remake really, plus you get the original film packaged on disc two so it was worth the few quid the charity shop was asking.

I remember when I saw 2.0 I didn't like it all that much. There was no need for that update and for all of the blue/green colors to all become orange. I understand they were trying to make it more in line with Innocence, but it doesn't do it for me. In fact Innocence isn't a sequel at all and should just be viewed as a movie that takes place in the same universe after Ghost in the Shell. Its just that different.

I've been watching to aru majutsu no index and its second season resently. It has a very good story. I find it funny just how much the main charactors power is ignored by the higher ups though.

Did you know they're doing a sequel to Eureka Seven? Eureka Seven Ao. Stars Eureka's son, Ao, as the new pilot of the Nirvash. Currently six episodes in and unsure if it's a direct story sequel or how/if the story will tie to the first series, but it's shaping up to be a good anime of its own none the less.

Yup. Been watching it as it comes out. It appers to be a dirrect sequal to the main eureka seven series, not the movie.

I loved it! I thought it was almost like a much better version Outlaw Star. The two were different, but bebop was much better. Cool ending to.
An last I heard about the live action movie Keanu Reeves is supposed to be playing Spike. Does anyone know what kind of fighting style Spike does? Idk if Keanu will be able to nail it

Yeah, just finished the first episode and I can really tell its by the same person. The initial set up is incredibly similar to Geass. Then again the art style and music alone had me hooked a whole two minutes into it. Totally spending the rest of shift at work watching this.

I'm almost finished with Gurren Lagann now, just three more episodes to go.

I honestly didn't expect I'd like it as much, as I am not a big fan of the "mecha" genre outside individual exceptions like NGE, and because I usually avoid the "uncanny valley" kid shows that fall somewhere between hilarious comedy and serious action (both of which I like). However, with Gurren Lagann, what convinced me to stick with the show was their character designs, and their plots. I did not expect a show whose often colourful and somewhat crazy style and the clearly exaggerated FX make it look a little like Yu-Gi-Oh would actually turn out to be this enjoyable for me.

What further affected my decision to continue watching was, I guess, the unexpected twists. I won't go into spoilers here, but an example of the things that surprised me was that the series actually continues after the protagonists beat the big bad boss, making a time-jump of several years into the future so the characters you knew as youngsters were suddenly adults, with some unexpected but reasonable conflicts between each other as their personalities evolved and the characters are confronted with new problems.
Apart from offering more episodes to watch, I like this concept for providing answers to the usual question of "what happens next" - you rarely have a show that continues after the threat exposed in its pilot was eliminated and everything seemed to be at peace.

As for the plot itself, the show begins with a desolate Earth covered by a giant desert, and where the few humans live in underground colonies, continuously threatened by the mechanical "gunmen" that roam the surface world in search for humans who have come out of their hiding places. Some day, two brothers happen to find a buried gunman in their settlement and manage to actually start it up. From there begins a small rebellion against the "beastmen" on the surface that eventually erupts into full-scale warfare.

Also, this show has some badass music.

Spoiler:

Intro to the first part of the show.

The opening changes slightly based on the state of the conflict:

Middle part.

Last part of the series.

Yep, that's exactly why I thought I wouldn't like it. Usually, I can only stand kids in anime that are clearly focused on comedy (like Azumanga Daioh - greatly recommended!), preferring an adult cast for anything serious.

Fortunately, for me, the good outweighs the bad in this one. Or they pulled the bad off in a manner that is bearable. It's probably a bit of both. Either way, somehow I've almost watched the entire show by now.

Next on the list will probably be the Dragon Age anime. Just ordered it from amazon!

I'm 50% confident that Gurren Lagann is my number 1. Just finished my third time through it recently and I loved it just as much as the first time, and got to share it with friends. It's great.

Yes it was so very good I've been stuck doing random fan boy stuff for the last few days. Reading the manga series and the spinoffs etc.
Spoiler:
One thing I didn't get was why WFN didn't drop a grief seed. The second time homura went back would ended fine for both girls since they could have lived with the seed that she dropped, but instead, no seed for no good reason
I don't know if I missed something or I have found a horrible plot hole.

I laugh at the amazing amount of grim dark that sifts its way into the series though. This thing makes some 40k stuff look bright.

I found the Remake movies really fixed up some of the iffy things in the evangelion series.

I would consider it merely a worst case scenario. Ganix endings are indeed horrible but they eased the pain with their movies which showed what they really wanted to happen.

Rebuild of Evangelion is actually really good. It's much better than the anime, which had about 13 gak episodes and 13 good ones, and an ending so indecipherable that Dan Brown himself need not distort anything to make a conspiracy novel.

I guess some people like the darker stuff more than others. The entire OMG factor that happened quite a bit in evangelion kinda fuelled it. On a sad note, the fan service might have helped Evangelions ratings a bit... It’s not really needed in my opinion. But as I said, where the series failed, the remake movies have really patched it up, both visually and even going a changing the plot quite a bit in the second one.

I'm kinda the same with eva, Baron. I've had a hard time going back and trying to watch it again since college or so. I have been watching the Rebuild movies though and they've been pretty great so far. The characters haven't been nearly as annoying as they were the first time around, for the most part. I'm fully expecting those improvements to be dashed in the coming installments, but it's good while it lasts.

Its reputation comes from how human the series is. The characters, as childish and emo as they are, really hit home for a lot teenagers who were dealing with a lot of the same issues presented in the series (granted the series fantasied the issues to a massive extent). Barring its horrible ending, I think Evangelion is a very good series. The problem is that come the ending, there was no delivery and the series just became a let down.

Animation quality was also very high for the time, and the fight scenes were quite epic.

The real problem is the numerous knock offs of Evangelion that have followed in the last decade, most of them even worse than Evangelion itself.

I was like, "What kind of badass does that?" It just makes no sense and adds to the ridiculousness of that OVA. I still need to watch the sequel from which I've been is actually worse than the first.

I can understand depressed teenagers feeling some kind of common ground with the characters, but I'm referring to fans who have outright said that EVA is amazing because of all of the Judeo-Christian stuff that is thrown in and they claim that makes it deep. It doesn't because its just thrown in to sound cool. I don't see how that makes it deep, but a lot of people seem to think it does. Its really ridiculous how far some fans have gone to justify how "deep" the original show was when it was far from that.

The Evangelion knockoffs were hilarious. The list is probably still growing. xD

I still don't get why anime fans tend to think that Evangelion is super deep. Its not deep at all.
And I am referring to the TV show before anyone points something to the movies or remakes.
I think the movies need to be taken into consideration - at least End of Evangelion does. It basically shows you what happens in the outside/real world, whereas the end of the series shows you what happens in the characters' heads. You need to watch both to get the full picture. And I think that it's this combination that the fans are referring to.

I wouldn't say it's "super deep" though; I've watched way deeper and less needlessly convoluted anime by now. It was "deep" when I was still a kid having just watched it. So maybe for a lot of people it's largely a matter of fond memories?

If you want to see what happens when your director has mental issues, go check out Legend of Crystania...
Good way to run the Lodoss War franchise straight into a wall. Such a promising idea, such a bad execution. :(

For some reason I was thinking more that they might want to watch La Blue Girl for 'directors with issues' because that person had them like the Geographic.

I watched this and boy was it bad, but it entertained me because it made me laugh. The best part is when the woman tries to seduce Geist and he nearly kills her. I was like, "What kind of badass does that?" It just makes no sense and adds to the ridiculousness of that OVA. I still need to watch the sequel from which I've been is actually worse than the first.

LordofHats wrote:

Its reputation comes from how human the series is. The characters, as childish and emo as they are, really hit home for a lot teenagers who were dealing with a lot of the same issues presented in the series (granted the series fantasied the issues to a massive extent). Barring its horrible ending, I think Evangelion is a very good series. The problem is that come the ending, there was no delivery and the series just became a let down.

Animation quality was also very high for the time, and the fight scenes were quite epic.

The real problem is the numerous knock offs of Evangelion that have followed in the last decade, most of them even worse than Evangelion itself.

The list is probably still growing. xD

Death Note Did it better. The symbolism is alot more subtle. And you actually have to pay attention to get it.

Well, I suppose in that case it was intentional (though I barely recall that one episode I watched 10 years ago) - but with Legend of Crystania, the director was actually arrested for doing drugs.

The ending of Berserk leaves me feeling the creators either got a really bad (good?) batch of drugs or otherwise had a sudden mental break.

That I had to see for film. That movie, and Grave of the Fireflies IMHO are two of the more overrated Anime out there. But that's just my opinion.

Which one, the first or the second ("Innocence")? Because the second one sucks.

Also, I was more referring to the Stand Alone Complex series, though the 1st movie is also a cult classic.

Spoiler:

Other suggestions I would make are the cyberpunky Bubblegum Crisis (the original series and its Crash & AD Police spin-offs, not the crappy remake) and, if you fancy some fast-paced mercenary gunplay, Black Lagoon.

Honestly its be a bit so I forgot the name, its the one where the cyborg is being created in the opening. I've heard some good stuff about Outlaw Star. What about that? I already have seen most (if not all) of Miyazaki's work.

Outlaw star is one of several anime's that is very popular in the US but not so much in Japan. It was a decent series imo. Cowboy Bebop is slightly better overall I think (though it to enjoys much more praise here than across the lake).

I'm pretty sure both of them start with a cyborg being created. If the movie you watched was all about, "dolls" then you saw an awful movie. Innocence was terrible and is in no way a sequel to Ghost in the Shell. Its more of a movie that takes place in the same universe and just so happens to be after the first one. Its not a true sequel.

And amusingly, that's from the much tamer, early parts of the manga, which were filled with merely T&A, violence, and Heavy Metal riffs (of both types). Later is sails off to equal and then surpass DBZ levels of absurdity with the fights, but minus the long training and filler. (Porno Diano still gets my vote for 'Best Villainess Name of All Time')

Most of them are garage kits, or do not get permission to produce copyrighted designs. Up until fairly recently, it was legal, though questionable. Under pressure from the entertainment industry, however, they're starting to crack down. Asobi ni Iku Yo! takes a not too subtle jab at the whole thing in the scene where Ichika and Eris talk about interstellar copyright laws (the penalty for violations is basically brainwipe).

Alright, since the Dragon Age movie seems to take some more to arrive (guess it'll be here next week), I'm passing the time with a new one: "Birdy the Mighty". This is actually the so-called "Decode"-version, a remake of the '96 OVA. I've not seen much of that one, but from the looks of it the visual character design was slightly more interesting for my taste. Still, I've become used to the new version by now, and have to say the characters and drawing style are quite alright. Most of all, since I'm watching this stuff on netflix, I have to watch the dubbed version - but it's actually quite good! The voices were well chosen and you can tell that the actors, chiefly the one from the main protagonist, are doing their best to get into their roles when talking.

I've only watched three episodes so far, but I guess I'll keep on watching for now. What surprised me is the big leaps this show takes from "funny childrens show" to "serious adult drama", but then again I've seen this in a number of other anime as well.

The basic plot doesn't need much explanation: Officer Birdy Cephon Altera, the protagonist, is a cute space cop pursueing dangerous space criminals, and is doing some covert investigation on an unsuspecting Earth. Having been bred for this job, she's a classic super hero in that she can jump extreme distances, shapeshift, or can punch holes through walls (which looks both awesome as well as hilarious given her petite figure). During a pursuit she accidentally kills a human teenager that was used as a hostage by a space criminal, but conserves his spirit in her own body until space police can provide a clone body as replacement. Cue some funny/awkward interaction between the two who are now sharing a body, with Birdy shapeshifting into his form in order to have him go to school, or him telepathically commenting about her actions as she does space cop work. Added to this comes her old undercover identity as a cute model, a job which she loathes - but is loved by her robotic guardian, who poses as her manager and has a lot of fun having her booked for the most ridiculous ads.

Well, yeah, "new" as in "I'm not watching Gurren Lagann anymore".

I like anime, but I'm not that deep into the buzz that I could tell you what is currently getting released. Most of the time, I pick something up by pure coincidence, and then it's often quite a few years old. Then again, a lot of the really old ones have a unique charm missing from many of the recent productions, imo. The original BGC remains one of my alltime favs.

Yess! That's a beautiful movie, suitable for young and old alike.

I also like how it explores the theme of humanity being a danger to itself, and that it only hints at what happened during the so-called "Days of Fire" in the form of myths passed down from generation to generation only makes it all the more creepy - though it doesn't take much to get the idea.

Episode 4 was meh because Banagher was spouting all of this crap to the Newtype girl as if she was innocent. She voluntarily massacred civilians on more than one occasion and they changed a huge battle scene and moved it to Torrington for essentially no reason. It was originally in Dakar which IMO is way more pivotal since Dakar is the capital of the Federation government. I can't wait for episodes 6 and 7 now.

That's the only problem with ZZ, it has obnoxious character. I'm not gonna lie I hated Mashimyre at the beginning of the show. By the end of the show he was one of my favorite characters. He got the best serious revamp of all of the annoying Neo Zeon idiots. Haman was still the coolest character in the whole show though.

Judua was bad ass, but the others were just whiny jerks who didnt deserve to pilot gundams. I like the fact it took place on earth though. Like usually I like the characters on both side, Both Fedi and Zeon. But in ZZ I hated both sides haha

An ya I guess it didnt make as much sense to move away from Dakar. But I just liked that whole fight a ton. The whole last charge of the Zeon remnants who had been waiting years for their chance to strike back!

But the colony drop in Destiny was never explored ever. It was one of the biggest balls they dropped because it happens and they essentially do nothing with it. You don't see any of the effects in the show. The only show which gives some depth to that event is in Stargazer in the first episode, but that's it. IMO the one in ZZ was far worse because you actually saw MS battling it out in the ruins of the colony. You didn't need to see dead people to understand just how devastating the colony drop was because it was all portrayed in the scenery. In SEED there was no drop. Earth had simply been neutralized by N-Jammers stopping the functionality of electronic power around the globe.

Yeah a lot of the characters were unlikable. I kind of liked Illia Pazom who was with Mashimyre at the end and Chara was whatever. I still don't get how Glemy went from a total noobie pilot to leader of a rebellion. XD

The one thing I don't get is if its UC 0099 (I think?) Its been about 20 years that these guys have been in hiding on earth. I found it a bit ridiculous that there are still Zeon remnants living on earth with working MS. Also did you notice the Grey Phantom from 0080 in the 4th Episode of Unicorn?

^right sorry I meant seed or seed destiny b.c I didn't remember which the colony dropped in lol But ya that is true that it was nicely done in ZZ. They even tell you in the show about how even though the physical damage isn't massive, the implication of it and everything is. I just wish they would have done more with it. Also I really liked Kamille. I wish we could see him or the guy from 0083 fight again. Do we every find out what happens to Illia Pazom? I don't remember her dying, but then again I didn't pay as much attention and tried to fast forward as much as possible through he last episodes.

An I was definitely shocked to see Zeon remnants of that magnitude still on Earth after all that time, but I could see it happening. If anything I liked it and thought it was cool to see their defiance and hatred stand for that long amount of time. I also did see the grey phantom, and was like WTF????? Why is it on Earth and being used by the Zeon? It didn't really stand out im my memory much anyways though. I only remember it from 0080 and nothing special about it, like its crew or anything

Though the "colony" drop near the end of Char's Counterattack was also sort of cool. I know it wasn't actually a colony, but just seeing all of them know it will screw up the world and burn out their suits entirely to try and stop the thing; being burnt up in re-entry. Right after they had just been trying to kill each other as well, even the ones that wanted it dropped.

Was kind of dumb how it actually was stopped though.
Spoiler:
Amuro did stay "dead" though didn't he? Seemed like a decent way to go out finally.

I was really really dissapointed with the ending for Char's Counterattack, and the whole last part in general. Enemies were killed off quickly and not in deserving ways. But ya after that moment when Amuro and Char disappear they are labeled as MIA and don't reappear in Unicorn, at least not yet. To much time has passed for them to be alive in F91 or Victory gundam. I agree it was dumb how they stopped it lol

The only other mention of Illia from that point on is in some random Manga or novel where is part of Char's Neo Zeon. IIRC she's a commander for some special ops type unit. Don't quote me on that since I barely remember this fact.

Yeah there is no explanation why the Gray Phantom crashed on earth and the Federation just left it there to rot. It makes no logical sense since its a Warship with plenty of military secrets and what not. Unfortunately that ship did nothing except for what it did in 0080. I don't think it re appears even in 0083, but I could be wrong.

n0t_u wrote:Though the "colony" drop near the end of Char's Counterattack was also sort of cool.

Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure Amuro is dead. Its never been confirmed or denied and IMO it should be left a mystery. Bright in Unicorn has a picture of Amuro in his office and he "talks" to him a couple of times briefly when he looks at the photo. Its safe to assume he's dead.

Makarov wrote:I'm thinking of watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam, is it recommendable?
I'd say HELL YES! But a lot of people dislike it because it doesn't seem like Gundam at first since it isn't a war, but it has so many of the inlaid Gundam themes that to deny that it is Gundam is silly IMO. Its definitely Gundam at its core.

A lot of people hate it because the Gundams are mostly hideous (except for the main Gundams IMO) and the show lends itself to be a Kung Fu type movie, but in a TV show format. The thing is that if you love super robots or just have a passing interest its good and it has a great plot. I don't see why so many people dislike the show when its one of the best AU shows from Gundam. I'd tell you to go out and watch it, but don't feel bad if you feel like the first 5 episodes drag on too much. They are sort of repetitive, because its introducing the other 4 Gundam pilots from the Gundam team. Once you get to the Shinjuku arc the show goes wild and outright awesome.

^ I dont like to think amuro is dead :( he is the original pilot! That's also why I never ever follow the manga and its story.

But i would also recommend G fighter! It is not my favorite but is really good. It is like SD gundam in that it is unique from all the other gundams. An it is different from SD in that it does not suck :p

Just got through watching Cyber City Oedo 808 and Doomed Megalopolis again after many years. Just awesome, they really dont make em like that any more.

Cyber City is just as cheesy as I remember, with swearing taking the place of every second word in a sentence. And mono whips! makes we want to play Shadowrun.

And what can you say about Doomed Megalopolis. I have always maintained it is the finest piece of Anime Japan has ever produced, and on watching it again I agree with my self
Great story playing on Japans fears of colossal disasters, demonic Chinese blokes who control black goo and women vomiting phallic worm beasts

Alright, the mail finally delivered Dawn of the Seeker and I got around to watch it.

As expected, there were some crazy stunts in there, but fortunately they aren't as numerous, nigh-universally limited to the protagonist, and lastly both Dragon Age computer games had similar stuff already. I enjoyed the story well enough, even though it once again made the templars look bad. The swordplay was pretty well done. I maintain that I'd rather have a drawn anime, but the CGI was not as bad as I had initially feared from the first previews, and I got used to it fairly quickly.

In terms of background information, I learned a few new things! Apparently, the Chantry clergy of Thedas has regional colour codes - Ferelden is orange, Kirkwall is red, Orlais is purple, ... Also, I now understand a little better why the templars were cracking down on the mages at the start of "Asunder".

What I liked in particular was the little snippet of lore at the beginning of the movie. Not only was this told and shown in the style of the computer games, it also explained better the relationship between mages and templars, clearly indicating that it has gradually transformed and degraded over the course of decades, if not centuries.

The final scene with Cassandra receiving that book from the Divine was also a very nice connection to her scenes in Dragon Age 2, furthermore hinting at new challenges and new tasks for her as well as the entirety of Thedas to overcome. Overall I was pleased with my purchase and would support a sequel - and/or Cassandra showing up in DA3, because she's awesome.

So, after having found a way to watch Netflix US, I discovered there actually is a 2nd Season of "Birdy the Mighty - Decode".

Highly recommendable. It is way darker than the 1st season, but with the same great character interaction and good plots. I've only started watching it and have maybe seen half of it so far, but it's good stuff. Part of the season plays in Birdy's memories as a child - a little sad when you see how she grew up ... and even more sad when you realize that these memories are sugarcoated by her own conscience and the reality was way worse. Discovering this character's troubled past really gave her a lot more depth, and gave an interesting glimpse on how things work on her own homeworld. Good combination of action, drama and humour.

Also, here is the opening song from Nirgilis.

The word is the second season had a drastically cut the budget in places. You can see the quality of the animation skip around considerably in some eps, so there may be truth to it. It was decent, but not as good as the original by Madhouse or the First Season.

Watched an anime I hadn't seen in a while to other day. Still lots of fun.

Found out there's a new Eureka Seven series, so I basically gaked my pants causes its basically Neon Genesis Evangelion except it doesn't suck. The new series AO, isn't the same kind of show, but its still pretty good. The episodes really make you wonder what the hell is going on and by episode 10, things really started getting intense. Waiting for 13 right now.

Eurake Seven AO...

Spoiler:
So we've got episodes 13 and 14 out of the pipe now, and I'm liking it much better. The series started out really cool, but then I was starting to get bored of it as it seemed to be devolving into a monster of the week type format. Freaky Secret shows up, good guys fly in, blow it up, and a different one with different abilities shows up next week. 13 and 14 really start to make the cool and weird happen again, you learn some things, find out some answers, though of course get more questions.

Seems the Scub Coral is from the future, and is somehow coming back in time. Truth appears to be a super Secret of some form and really hates Eureka. Pink Haired Girl (i'm really bad with names) might be Ao's older sister? Really looking forward to more of this now.

The only standard one was the one armed one that guy was in and what that video cut out was that he had also been stabbed.

At least they were better than the models they were using in the late 60s to try and stop them. Them being on Earth should say how it went.

Thats why i think people like yu-gi-oh, A less complicated version of Magic.
But if i remember it looses its sanity hal way through, when marik shows up.
ALso those anime like beyblade, Yu-gi-oh, Bakugan make no sense to me. The entire world is obsessed with a toy that they use it to say the world.
And they have the weirdest of message. Like i remember waking up to beyblade, They are fighting a guy who can make a blackhole. HE says "None can escape its grvitational pull"
The kids then say "We dont believe in stuff like that" You dont believe in the laws of physics? Sorry kid the laws of physics dont go away if you dont believe in them, Trust me i know"

There's the Hellsing Anime which has a unique and separate storyline from the manga, and imo isn't very good.

Then there's the OVA, Hellsing:Ultimate, which is being released in 10 45min segments (its not complete yet), follows the manga and imo is much much better.

I just recently finished High School of the Dead and Tiger and Bunny.

High School of the Dead was so much fan service. Its not that I have an issue with it, its just that the show is nothing but fanservice. It has no plot essentially. The most amusing character was the Otaku since he was obsessed with guns. Other than that there was nothing worth watching there.

Tiger and Bunny was great. It at least tried to make a story. The story was a bit obvious at certain points, but it kept things interesting all throughout. I loved the characters, they are just so energetic to watch in action. Great Show! I'd recommend this to anyone to watch. It does start off a bit slow though. I've seen this as a general trend in anime: episode 1 through 5 or 6 are ok, then it suddenly gets better in the span of an episode.

I'm at a weird point with anime at the moment. I'm in the middle of Gungrave and GunXSword and a bunch of others but I have 0 motivation to finish them at all. I might just end up rewatching Angel Beats. I could use some more recommendations though! Maybe something a little more upbeat.

For what I've watched already:
http://myanimelist.net/animelist/FenrisMarine

still blows my mind that I've watched about a month's worth of anime.

On a side note the anime Shuffle is a decent/pedestrian harem comedy anime notable for the protagonist not being an utter loser for once. Till the Nightmare Fuel injection towards the end that really comes out of left field.

Yeah, was not impressed with High School of the Dead at all, and it tends to get a lot of praise. That kind of overly done fan service just tends to annoy me though. I despised the nurse.

Gun x Sword was a good one. Very Trigun-esque in my opinion without simply being a clone of it.

Hellsing is one of those animes that I hear so much about but for some reason have never gotten around to watching.

Currently up to episode 348 in One Piece. Blazing thru that series, and yet there's still So Much More to go.

The fan service is honestly why I loved the series. Ignoring that it is, in general, a solid zombie piece, it takes the exploitive aspects of the genre (and of anime in general) to the level of comedy. It's hilarious

Not a fan of zombie horror, huh? The whole thing crawls with shambling hoards of zombie film in jokes. Even it's acronym is an in joke (HOTD).

I still think she had the best line 'The author didn't write me as that sort of character!'

HOTD is really meant as a black comedy, sort of in the Shaun of the Dead/Zombieland mold. Stop and think how many times the main female characters are all good looking, and in their late teens or early twenties, in zombie cinema.

Not a fan of zombie horror, huh? The whole thing crawls with shambling hoards of zombie film in jokes. Even it's acronym is an in joke (HOTD).

AduroT wrote:Yeah, was not impressed with High School of the Dead at all, and it tends to get a lot of praise. That kind of overly done fan service just tends to annoy me though. I despised the nurse.

I like Zombie movies. I never said I had a problem with them, but what I do have a problem with is all of the unnecessary fan service they included into the anime.

I have friends who actually keep up with the manga and they've told me the anime is incredibly muddled down with all of the fan service and that they change around a bunch of things that happen. I don't mind that there are a bunch of scantily clad women in a zombie movie/show/book, but they overemphasized their parts. After a while the show just became a really bad comedy that I just wanted to see how it ended for the sake of it.

Also I agree about the nurse. She's so annoying. I always hate that type of character, because they really do have no personality or character to them at all.

^ I agree with that. It pains me so much bc the show has some really good moments and little things here and there. But then i completely ruins it with fan service that pops outa nowhere. Its not a super typical or predictable zombie series either, which is nice

... Actually, in my opinion the fan service was a bit watered down compared to the manga (read Chapter 23). The things I noticed different were as follows:

The weird bullet between the boobs shot.

The order of events around the EMP explosion, including the point at which they lose the Humvee.

The silly 'beach ep' OAV they added to the BR release.

A lot of the events leading up to the zombie apoc at the school.

The kiss between Saeoko and Takashi.

Unfortunately, the anime cuts off before the fanservice in the manga reaches it's peak (the bra bin in the mall. Just.. the bra bin.) at which point things get serious again with HIrano having to kill someone so they wouldn't turn and havign a serious BSOD.

Also the episode where Saeko and the main character go off is completely different in the anime.

Also just because the manga has fan service, doesn't make it the same. The anime relied on it heavily like a crutch. I haven't actually read it though, but from what I've been told the anime and manga are different enough to actually warrant reading the manga.

Hey I just finished valkyria chronicles recently to, i thought it was pretty good. There were one or two annoying characters, but besides that it was pretty good. It felt more like a series of in game cut scenes rather than an anime at times, I just hope they make more with a bigger budget at some point. Though I doubt thatll ever happen

Tried to watch Rosario+vampire. Didn't even make it through the first 13 episodes.

The Vampire girl was too much of an I win button for my tastes, and most of the fights seemed just shoehorned into the episodes just so the Curbstomp Queen's Voice Actor could get paid that week.

Anyone watching Sword Art Online? It's from the same guy who wrote Accel Saga, and I have to say I like it so far.

I hunted down a English translations of the light novels to read through and was like "Damn, it's like .Hack but it doesn't suck!" I'm curious to see if the anime follows the novels. The animation quality is pretty good and they've managed to capture the sort of corny romance plot so far without it being insulting to my senses.

To clarify though, its not that I outright hate .Hack, I just always felt like the (anime's that is) story was kind of half baked. They have a cool setting, well done artwork, and an interesting premise, and then they go no where with it. I'm glaring at you Sign! Go somewhere damn it!

Oh hell yes.

Really loving SAO; simply gorgeous. On a darker note, Mirai Nikki was really good. Black Butler (don't remember the japanese...) is really excellent as well. I've watched quite a bit of anime lately, some really good stuff.

I know those feels all too well. I actually found out the big spoiler from the last episode way before getting there and as I got closer to the end of the show I realized it was the only way the show could end. I think its worse knowing how it ends than being shocked with it when you see it. I almost cried.

She's supposed to be twelve? Nooooo.... I can't believe that. She's Much too well developed. And while her outfit is fanservice, they dont really flaunt it or abuse it in any "annoying" way other than simply having her on screen, though the little pet does periodically hide in her cleavage.
