Different States have different Brain Bucket laws. Here in Indiana it is only required by law to wear a helmet when you first get your Motorcycle license.

We also have zero environmental laws anymore, All State Education has been cut because only those who can afford private education should get it and corporations, Church school (Faith-based vouchers a.k.a. Unconstitutional church funding by the state) and rich executives are the only recipients of direct state Funding/tax breaks, since we have had fascist Governors in Indiana (and Ohio) for the past 20+ years.

But let's not talk politics and the right-wing forcing their ways onto the rest of us , it'll just piss me off, especially today.

if it's any consolation, my predominantly left-wing country has seen better days as well...

Conclusion: politicians are evil and we must be united under the enlightened dictatorship of a God Emperor (I nominate myself).

Are you still limited to DD 1408 for Active / Reserve? That used to annoy me to no end. I'd sooner issue DD 1805 any day. Money out of their pocket AND a notification to their CO. I found most Grunt units would blow off the 1408 unless it was PC that lead to the more serious offense (like DUI, etc)

... or even more pertinent, do you still have 1408 and 1805?

For sure I know what it can be like.
A few years ago we got hit by a hurricane up here and lost power and a section of shingles. That was messy.
But we still got off pretty light compared to some.

A few years.... 11 now... Great I'm feeling old...

Hazzer,
A disruptive Camo pattern would increase in size exponentially as the object increases in size. It is designed to confuse the naked eye from discerning certain recognizable shadows and shapes. The bigger the object you want to hide, the bigger disruptive patterns you use. (This is why the patterns on Woodland Camo BDUs are smaller than an M1A2 Abrams in the same colors) Using the same sized patterns on the Stormlord as I did the other Armor would not have the same effect, The outline of the Baneblade chassis would still be visible. If you truly wanted to hide a tank of this size from Aerial recon though, it would be covered in Camo netting and branches and such. If you will be so kind to be PATIENT, all will be revealed in due time, and I will alleviate all of your GW-Brainwashed fears my friend

Oh Wow! Thanks Max! That means a lot man!

@Bama, I am by no means a GW-only- I use Vallejo, and especally Vallejo Air, Ral Partha P3 metallics are amazing, FoW Military colors, Reaper mAster Series, Badger Air, Testors, Createx air, on and on. You should always pick up and use whatever COLOR you like, don't ever worry about the manufacturer. Acrylics are all the same things, just variations of materials and pigments. Some are translucent so you can layer colors, some are opaque, use whatever COLOR you like.

I am using GW paints on this because it is specifically my intention to take this beast to Games Day. And I want to ensure I'm using GW stuff, just to respect the spirit of it being a GW-Only contest I suppose. *sighs* i been looking at the for a decent weathering pigment too.

i think my problem with choosing another color range is i have no idea what i want. and since gw changed their paints ill have to look at the conversion chart. the other option is to switch brands.

yea im not too keen on the gw metallics they kinda blow chunks. so you would recommend the p3 metal colors though?

yea im too poor to afford an airbrush and my living situation wouldn't allow it. so hand painting for me.

as of right now im trying to find some good colors for my kroot and what not i like my first kroot i did but looking for something else in them.

and you seem to have a pretty keen grasp on paint and color theory and i saw the post in Unearthlychildes blog about your thoughts on color theory too and it got me thinking.

any way thanks for listening to me ramble on about my hobby crisis

for the record i dont like the style gw paint pots are in.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/07/07 15:33:12

Post by: dsteingass

No, the pots suck, they don't even stay open, but the new BASE metallics by GW are better than ever, high pigmet, one coat stuff, very nice IMHO. Yes P3 Metallics are great, so are Vallejo's. Like I said, I use what colors I like. Don't worry about the names of the colors so much, just use what you like.

Here I have given it an overall drybrush of Bubonic Brown (it's really a mustard yellow)

see?! that´s what i was referring to! looking good... and i only now really came to recognize the straps you did from PC for those crates!

by the way... is there anything you can do to cope with that fristed primer accident? sanding down the catachan again or something? on the mini that looks pretty awful... but the paintjob looks already good...which is such a shame...

Yeah, I know Vik..And until I posted the pic, I couldn't see it that close. I want to Use the rughness on his face and arms as hair and stubble, we'll see if that works out, otherwise, yes I may have to sand him down again.

i think if you can do that, it might actually solve that problem in a good way!

love the mixed colored cans in that last pic... and the backpacks by the way... very good looking... but if you take there a closer look...then you see there is a catachan backpack that has a strapped on machete to it... in its scabbard... but the hilt is missing... any thing you could do about that?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/07/08 13:54:25

Post by: Vitruvian XVII

It depends how dirty you want the tank to look dave. At the moment it looks very beat-up but if you want it slightly fresher a re-spray would be good.

The yellow is pretty hard to see atm.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/07/08 13:55:44

Post by: alabamaheretic

personally i think its weathered down quite well, my thinking behind this is its been ion the jungle for ever fightin the orks and its been sundamaged, mud and dust and what not.

it also makes the tank look like an old piece of armor, so it looks great if thats what you were going for.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/07/08 13:59:32

If you take it inside immediately you'll be okay! I spray primed a squad of dudes today and it was close to 90 and humid as hell. I immediately brought them into my air conditioned room and they're nice and smooth. Same trick works for varnish when it fogs up.

It's a bit too late for this one- I only prime with the airbrush now, more control, I built and primed this a couple of years ago. I have learned MUCH since then.

Here the transfers are all added, and more Rhinox Hide sponged on

And then, I sprayed it with Future again, and THIS is the effect I was hoping for on the paint chips

THanks Vik. It's just a piece of hacked up blister pack foam. And yeah, Future is Johnson's Klear in the UK, probably something similar in Germany. Yep the decal is just an Ork glyph for "Boyz" stuck over the Imperial "Reaper" decal

@Shas, if I am taking it to GD..yes

dsteingass wrote:haha yeah. I went out today...the whole town is slightly trashed. I saw old trees uprooted...a 25-30 year old birch tree bent so far over by 91MPH winds that it splintered and burst! it'll probably be monday at the earliest we'll get power back on, hopefully sooner. I havent heard of anyone getting serioisly hurt or killed though, although the local news sucks here. I have plenty to do, and a nice big window for light.

I am getting familiar hands-on rules learning

Dave! Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Storms! Hope everything's turning out better! Your work is as always amazing. And, I'm glad to see some Orkz Waagh Dakka dakka waagh up in here! They're my truly my favorite of the 40K universe.

On a side note have you taken your old green or white clear templates and laid them inside the new templates! The Spray and large blast templates are longer and larger respectively!! Unless this is a manufacturing mistake, then it will be a must to buy the new templates or at least make templates based off their length and circumference!

THanks Hmel- No, you just use the open area, no one needs to go out and buy/make new templates. It's only a decorative border.

I am thinking I may scratch out a baneblade for you to paint. Thoughts?

Yeah! If you are going to scratch it, Give it twin fuel tanks (like the FW models) rather than the quad fuel drums like the plastic kits! Or better Yet, scratch a Macharius instead!

Thanks Silver! - But I'm not doing anything supernatural here, just basicaly following the tut for the Cadian Stormsword in the FW Imperial Armour Masterclass book, but with reversed and slightly modified color selections. Anyone can do it, just one technique at a time.

One hell of a QFT, right there.

Just dig in and DO it. You'll be surprised at how much you improve, and it'll all flow into your 'tabletop standard' models as well, as it becomes 'rote'.

I'm an example of that. I've improved vastly since I first started sharing my work on Dakka.

To keep that progress going I've decided to get an airbrush this fall once I save up enough $$$ to get a quality setup. While it is sometimes true that a bad workman blames his tools, there's a point of truth there- bad tools get bad results. If I spend the $$$ on a decent set and my results suck I'll know it's 100% me and work on improving.
