We are Legion

They needed to find him and find him they did. Didn’t feel that way now, did it. It was fething cold, the humidity of the earlier thunder rains was whisked around by the brisk sea wind flowing through the forgotten docklands. The full moon cast a pale, icy glare that froze the shadows of the stand off.

There he was, in rugged civilian clothes, armed with a brace of pistols, Sgt. Jargassor, whom all needed to find - the least of their concerns now.
The entire hunt team had their retinas transfixed on the massive being next to him. A dozen weapons of different make pointed at him for what little difference it made. Standing two and a half meters, a god of war, clad in a huge suit of armor the color of night, the giant stared back, immoveable like a statue, yet radiating explosiveness like an unstable flux core reactor.

The wind turned only to punctuate the stalemate.

‘I am Alpharius, We are Legion‘ The giant announced in a distinctive, flowing, silky, yet authoritarian voice.

As I am increasingly becoming aware of myself as an artist, it is becoming increasingly difficult to stay on track so to speak - or rather immensely liberating to just go where the inspiration takes me.

I've compared Shades of Greye and now Alpharius to my E and A GD entry and the new works is so far out there in my own opinion. Yet the more enjoyment I seem to find and the more I find my place within the hobby, the less urge I have to go to a GD. (Unless to meet great friends of course )

So here's my next project for =I=munda. A new Warband small in numbers but big in presence. If I frankly considered Shades of Grey pretty raw, now I've decided to through out all the rules and just paint the way I feel I must and not be afraid of color. The project is inspired by Dainton's art as always, the Legion book and the pale, chilling light of the Moon.

Just so happens Hammer is running a Genestealer Cult themed Imunda campaign that should be kicking of after Jade Vessel. It is perfectly poised to live in a symbiotic relationship with my artistic urges and imagination.

Here are very, very WIP pics of Sgt Jargassor and Ghuul, the faceless wizard + alpharius WIP for those who might've missed him.

I think it's the one based around the Empire Wizard, so the right one.

Good to see another blog from you, Migsula. I'm really looking forward how this develops - especially because Alpharius turned out so good!

Sweet, more Migs goodness!

Not sure about the good Sarge's feet, think he could do with some proper boots instead of slippers. Good use of the marksman head though, I'm keeping my one like that for an admech conversion for my "good" gang which is increasingly looking like being at least 2 "good" gangs, one ad mech, one =I=.

On a side note, how do you find your titan princeps model for size next to a regular 28mm mini? I got a FW enginseer today and even his base isn't the right size, he's a good few mm's smaller in scale than all regular gw mini's. God only knows why the made the torso and legs attached to the base too, such a pain to remove but almost necessary given the difference in base size.

Cheers,

Dante

Should be a great thing to watch progress ^_^.

I agree sarge's legs/feet seem a bit...off. Some proper fatigues/boots sculpted over them should give the right feel. But I'm definitely interested in hearing your ideas for him.

Wizard kit is proving it's usefulness yet again in your hands. Northern and Hammer both have great conversions based off the kit, now to see what another Fin does to make me want to go buy the damned kit...

You guys really make it hard not to just go out and buy up tons of models and start kitbashing the hell out of them!!!

Agree with the others that the sarge needs some work to his feet. Possibly a side buckle? certainly within your abilities, and it ties in with the cadian boots.

Looking forward to seeing progress on this new warband!

Hey guys, like I said, very very wip Boots and possibly knee pads on the way, lots and lots of detail, bags and pouches etc.

I'm about to start working on them, so pics again tomorrow or so. Thanks for all the comments.

Progress. I sculpted some boots. Still needs a layer of detail work. I added tiny rivets to the shoulder guard and worked a staff for the Psyker, who is also getting mechadendrites with "flect" mirrors! Pictures tomorrow.

At times I struggle with the amount of ideas that pour into my head - it's a lot of editing to not make a mess with all the "cool ideas" toppling a strong concept.

This band is going to be 4 or 5 models max. So I will take my time and enjoy it. I do want it done by the end of the year, so I can enter the new campaign with a ready gang and concentrate on extras like vehicles etc

I find the size very pleasing - thinner and more correct than say a cadian, but not too small either. The base is a bitch as you say. I love the model, but still haven't found the window to paint it.

A Big ass truck for Shaddes Offe Greye, built from the new Ork BW. A really gothic and rugged affair. Then a 6wheeler Land Rover equivalent for generic campaign use and a converted speeder from the Tau piranha kit for Jargassor's use. Still don't know which order, but the 6 wheeler I've started.

Then a Valkyrie of course, and a super heavily converted Thunderhawk for Alpharius if the plastic becomes a reality... you know the deal, endless plans

Ahh. The endless plans involving air support popping up in one's mind nowadays. I had to run a check on how much a force of 12 Plastic Stormtroopers and 14 Valks would run up. Not good. Downsizing. Downsizing now.

But yeah, everything sounds incredibly awesome in the planning phase.

I'm posting more pics tonight when I get home from work...which might mean late. It does take a lot of tweaking and trying, to get these ones right. I want them to be just right and have a strong impact individually and as a group. Having started working, I've added an extra layer of focus and decided these models will be entirely plastic and GS, no metal models or parts or even guitar wire.

Okay here's some progress.

A LONG way off still, but I will keep sharing the stuff as I go.

Jargassor: First phase of boots done, still looking bland and stiff for now detail going in here and there. I added super tiny rivets on the shoulder guard. I am still considering adding a second shoulder guard, but I also like the feel of the one sided pad, which will have small hydra icon. I think he needs pistol holsters too.

The Psyker: Wizard kit glues very smoothly, the left side in the second pic is smoothed with a sharp knife and file and the right still shows the over flow of glue I use to get a totally seamless connection. You can see the melted face now too, which will be painted to appear like his face is psychically veiled from view. I was torn using a Tyranid skull - as that would tie into the next campaign, but then decided for a human skull as I intend to make a second model from the wizard kit who is all about the nid hunting. The mechadendrite arm poing out from his waist will get a tiny mirror that the psyker uses as a flect.

I'm really looking forward to painting them, as that really and obviously is the deciding factor. It will be a challenge to include enough of Alpharius feel for a unified group, yet highlight the individualism. Now that I am using a lot of rich blues and hints of yellow and green, it's a bigger challenge than the sombre and by saturation alone unified looking Shaddes offe Greye.

keep it up

I believe its from the empire plastic handgunners sprue, the marksman head.

The wizard is a cool representation of the attache from Legion. Interested to see how you paint the face.

What do you have in mind for the colour scheme? I can see the sarge in a light grey or beige uniform with navy blue armour and trim etc. Do you plan on filling the cloth seam lines up the back of him or are you leaving them as is?

I think the boots look maybe a touch thick at the ankles at the moment (unless your planning the cadian style braces?) they could certainly use some creases to define the stance a little and add detail but I'm guessing this comes in the next stage? I sometimes find it easier to begin defining where the creases will be in the early stages as its much easier to get the depth right.

Top notch stuff, can't wait to see them with the detail added!

Cheers,

Dante

Yes that's the head + Some shaving done and new detail added.

Dante - Agree on the boots, Actually the reason why there are no visible creases at ankle level is that the GS there is a super thin layer. I find it easier to go smooth first, then cut away what I need and sculpt some shape on. If I try to shape too thin gs, it lifts off the gs where I don't want to. In this case the ankles at the front will be a tricky place to do such small detail shape, but I will try and thne upper parts will get some more detain.

Color scheme vice I will tick to cool grey and blues, with some natural beige browns, not yello browns, but sort of greengrey browns and a hint of yellow showing through as green and posssibly some purple touches on the Psyker.. But there needs to be a fair bit of saturation to have the same vibrancy as Alpharius has - which is VERY different to how Shaddes offe Greye look.

One more thing that came up with friends about issues I and they share about Jargassors head:

That is the issue. It's not even an issue with most bionic heads, but this one has a round projection behind it really outlining where exactly the model is looking at.

I'm thinking of ways to fix it and think I have the solution.

No issue that doesn't work is minor or meaningless to me the fun is to solve them.

Its crazy how much thought & detail you put into each and every one of these guys. For example, the mirror/ flect idea. What an awesome idea and a unique touch. Or the falxe on Alpharius.

Everybody is getting so much detail and their own story. Thats what really makes the shaddes offe greye such an awesome project.

Ok,Thanks for the comments. I took apart the entire bionic eye, shaved and fine tuned and glued back together so it looks right and much more refined at the same time. More 40k less FB aswell. A fairly careful operation I must add

I also glued on some nice sci-fi detail to the boots. I'll work on the psyker a little more and the post pics of both. I may end up using a real mirroring surface for the flect - so gluing it after prime and then try adding some interest with very thin ink streaks.

Malika -that'll have to wait as I need to fine tune the details with the GMs Sickbunny and Hammer and then I don't know if the stats can be shared as the whole campaign team visits dakka.

Some smoothing, more detail and then primer! And finally get to paint these. Busy RL times ahead, so it may take a while. Saw my brother today and he is making an Eldar Star Strider team for the campaign.
