Thanks to a nice and talkative paint fest with Hammer and a little more painting after watching ManU kick ass in the FA cup the two new guys are 85% done! As always, I experimented with all manner of things, this time tamya masking tape for the camo cloak for example. Wild.

I also took some pics of Hammers Iron Bears and Genestealer Cult.

This time you must wait for the finished article. As for Hammer's models, hopefully I have a moment tomorrow to fine tune and upload them.

Sounds good mate, looking forward to seeing them when theyre done.

Did you do any refinements to the cradle for the heavy weapon?

Cheers,

Sounds like good fun, I´ve been looking at some masking tape, and haven´t been sure, so I really want to see what you made of it.

Masking tape looks to be the way to go for the Cloak. Are you looking for more of a Jagged DP? I'm trying it out on a tank at the moment, trying to gague the correct scale I should use for the pattern. Also, multiple sticking-out edges are getting on my nerves: it distorts the pattern, losing some of the sharpness in areas.

I'll be really interested to see what you make of the masking tape on a miniature, however. I've thought of using a sponge-stippling effect for a Flecktarn-esque camouflage, and that actually came out nicely on your Jargassor. Any heads up on that?

Stay safe,

Teaser of the close to finished cell of operatives. Still need to finish water splash effects, some pigmenting on the bases etc.

This has been such fun, relaxing and new and exciting at the same time. Now I have all the parts needed and am working on the door (a sort of mini display thing for them, with an industrial door that has a faded hydra symbol), which is my first ever piece of super detailed and painted terrain - just as much love as on the models.

I'm now going back to "shaddes offe greye" and a more austere, disciplined and "technically correct" styles of painting. Nice to have such variety and a subject matter I'm in love with

Also be sure to check out Hammer's gorgeous NPC elements for the new Campaign the Legion is taking part in.

Looks excellent migs. Closeup on the cloak of the demolitions guy would be great, as well as more shots of the finished group. GJ on finishing them all in such high quality!

I see Hammer (or Northen?) has indeed gone with kroot carapace armor. Looking really good too.

Thanks lads,

More pics after varnish and finishing the basing and water effects. I hit them with proper layer of gloss yesterday and will allow a few days for drying before dullcoat, then the effects, so this weekend. Wip shots of the scenery piece too.

Xanthos, yes, Hammer, he saw your's and was very inspired

Very well done Misula. I always look foraward to updates in this plog.
The Legion is very well tied together with bases and colour scheme. But, all unique. I think you pulled off a lot of the different/ experimental painting techniques that you talk about, while still sticking with your own painting style.

First post here
I really love what you guys are doing, it really expands the 40k universe beyond what we all usually see
don't be offended or standoffish when people copy certain elements of your conversions though, imitation is the highest form of flattery after all!
also the way i see it, you guys are really setting the standard of sub military technology/fashion/aesthetics. i love the use of the flagellants and ghoul kits, brilliant!
keep up the good work, there's clearly countless lurkers out there admiring your work

Oooh. The two newest guys look good now. I'm waiting for more closeup pics for them so that I can see better how the cape came out. The masking tape approach was something I want to see if it works - and it looks like it works.

Now you need to add the water and the splash effect. Will you add that before or after varnish? How does the water effect stuff react to varnish anyway? I haven't used it myself, but I plan trying the stuff with my terrain.

Will, cheers mate and warm welcome to dakka posting

Hammer, After varnish as it needs to be glossy and is clear resin based matter that doesn't need any protection as such. I'm using Vallejo as always. The citadel one is great for pools, but Vallejo has this water effect stuff you can mould and shape. Lets paint again this weekend, so you also can see them IRL as no amount of pics newer really does it with models.

Ok, good to know. I'll add the stuff after I get the room painted and varnished then.

Migsula, I got to say I love these guys, in every way they are breaking the molds.

One thing you may wish to re-examine though is your psyker, or namely, his lack of a head. Your reasons for leaving it off are good, and I like the sinister, “who the hell would remove their own head???” feel it gives, but I think the lack of anything on his shoulders makes the model look very un-finished.

Just my 2 cents though. Your demo expert turned out awesome, and your warband has a very strong look overall that I think will look ace facing off against those Iron Bears. Cant wait to see some battle reps 

Hmm, one thing I'm a little bit disappointed with is the fact that Huntelaar (with his big ass gun) lacks boots, I think he would have looked better with some boots on like Jargassor. Looks kind of off for the heavy weapon guy.

Wow, mate you have completely proved me wrong with that demo chap. He works perfectly and I'm sorry for doubting.

The camo is utterly genius, I can see the hydra neck pattern already from the teaser pic you've given so far and it looks quality!

Can't wait to see proper individual shots of the two new guys.

The water effects are something I've been eyeing up everytime I'm in Hobbycraft. Any experience with the Woodland scenics stuff? The only thing putting me off at the moment is the sheer volume of water effects you get in a pack, much more than I would ever use so I can't justify the cost to myself at the moment. What quantity is the Vallejo stuff sold in?

Cheers,

Dante

Everyone, big thanks for the comments!

Dante - the Vallejo stuff comes in a large pot (likely to last forever) but is probably the price of a single forge world comissar, so ok

@Hammer - what do you use as the basis for the Iron Bear's helmets? (sorry, Migs - don't mean to derail your thread - it's just that this one has newer pics of the Iron Bears than Hammer's other thread).

I think (Sorry, Hammer, prove me wrong if you like) it's a shaved down Cadian Helmet, GS, and a Kroot Shoulderpad. Simple, but very nice.

They look awesome I love the worn paint effect you've achieved. The gunner looks wicked when I get time you have inspired me to give a go at making my own unique teams. The cammo cloak looks really cool and Im amazed at how models that look so different are so similar, ah the power of hard work and thought heheh good work hope to see more.

Migsula actually posted this pic and several others in my thread too, so if you have other questions about my Bears and stuff, please ask them in the proper thread. Let's not de-rail this thread too much.

I love all you stuff so far. But I have one question. Where are the rules for this? Is this a version of Necromunda or what?

If someone could provide an idiot proof link to the rules or where i could find them it would be greatly appreciated.

It's a version of Necromunda we are using, but soon updating to modified Mordheim rules, which to begin with are a little like Necro 1.5.

And thanks
