I’m currently converting a renegade Mechanicus army, the plan was to originally use Necrons but with a codex release no where in sight leaving them as rather a difficult army to play at a tournament I decided to create a 2nd army that I could build with the theme instead.
This of course being chaos…
HQ
155 – Deamon Prince: Wings, Mark Of Slannesh and Lash Of Submission.
155 – Deamon Prince: Wings, Mark Of Slannesh and Lash Of Submission.
TROOPS
168 – 6 Plague Marines: 2 Plasmaguns
168 – 6 Plague Marines: 2 Plasmaguns
168 – 6 Plague Marines: 2 Plasmaguns
HEAVY SUPPORT
225 – 3 Obliterators
225 – 3 Obliterators
225 – 3 Obliterators
Total: 1489
Total No: 29
Kill Pts: 8
TACTICS
The Obliterators are the base of the army doing what they do best with the deamon princes lashing units out of cover for the plasma cannons to blow to kingdom come, the Plague Marines are more for objective grabbing than combat with them being the most resilient troops choice they seemed like the best unit for the job.
What do you think? I believe it could go far in a tournament like the GT?

It's a typical chaos spam army. Probably do well, but you won't score high on comp scores.

It will probably do good in a match, but you'll get marked down HARD for sportsmanship and such.
DP with LoS is like the biggest cheese in a chaos list. And then you have Plague Marines. There's no fluff to the list, just winning, and it looks like it would be frowned upon for not having any feel to it. Seriously, it will win, but you won't get 1st place for this list. I've seen nidzilla's do better than I think this would.

Personally (and I despise this list BTW), I'd drop an Oblit from all 3 squads for Rhino's and buffing up your Plaguemarine count. Anything you can kill with 9 Plasmacannons you can kill with 6. Jeez though...

If its to the UK GT then no, generally we don't use comp scores at all seems odd, American GT's seem to put a higher focus on Comp whereas at the GW UK GT for example its just bring your worst essentially.
I run a list very similar to this and trust me you really only need 6 Oblits, you now have 225pts to spend, with that i'd take 3 Rhinos and possibly add in Melta instead of plasma in one squad and then seeing if you can squeeze in a Power Fist or 2 (lets face it PM are I3 anyway so striking at I1 isn't exactly a major loss.

If he's a nice guy who treats his opponent with respect and is fun to interact with during the game, why would he be marked down on sportsmanship? Sportsmanship relates directly with the way the player carries himself during the game and has nothing to do with the army they put on the table. It would be horrendous for a nice guy who is fun to play against to get docked sportsmanship scores for bringing a competetive army to the table. Afterall it is a tournament and the very word itself implies competition, so the joke is on anyone who doesn't expect to see competetive armies at the top tables.
Anyway, about the list: You have no mobility like, at all. I would drop 3 Oblits to get Rhinos for the PMs as well as Meltas instead of Plasma. Then I'd consider looking into Champs with powerfists for the PMs as well. 6 Oblits will bring the pain plenty and you'll be thankful to have a means of actually getting your troops where you want them in a timely manner in objective missions. The Rhinos are also mobile cover for the Princes, which is very helpful for keeping them alive (4+ cover > 5+ invulnerable against the overwhelming majority of weapons).

In defence to the OP there are plenty of cut and paste lists out there. Discussing strategy and passing it on to others is one of the things these forums are about. There will be plenty of power armies at any GT that are cut and paste directly from forums like this.
I run noise marines in my lash list because I like the themed look and feel of the army, but if I were going to a big tourney I'd certainly consider running PMs instead.
As far as advice for your list I'd echo what some of the other posters said and drop a Oblit from each squad to get rhinos for your PM squads. Fists are nice as well. I don't know if you really need to sub out the plasma for melta as you do have a lot of anti-tank from your oblits and your DPs can crack open tanks as well. The plasmas give you an extra shot each for mowing down enemy troops and still give you light anti-tank capability at a greater range than a melta gun.

Oblits have a Power Fist as their CC Weapon.
Ranged, they have: lascannon, multi-melta, plasma cannon, TL Plasma Gun, TL Meltagun, TL Flamer.
They get to use any one of these weapons in a turn. That means they're versatile, powerful, and damn good HS.
Plus they Deep Strike.
Oh, and they practically have Terminator armor, mind you they don't. They aren't able to move and shoot those big heavies, hence the smalled versions (or so I always thought they were there for).

Well, nine Obliterators is overkill, and the list is very unfluffy since it contains no Noise Marines or Marines with the MoS.
Six Obliterator should be sufficient. I'd replace two PM squads by NM squads with doom sirens.

All of the whining pisses me off. In a friendly game you would be a butt for playing this. In a tournament there is no reason not to.
Somewhere some whiny girlyman reinterpreted sportsmanship to reflect the build and not the player. The build has nothing to do with sportsmanship and getting docked as such is ludicrous.

The guy puts a list up and hardly anybody points out anything that could inprove it. They simply just trash talk and such, shesh. Personally I would have a field day with this list as it would be a matter of time before the Obil had died to long range fire. Next would be his troops unless he started moving his lash Daemon up of which they would die to mass fire. Then again with the rhinos from some input it has greatly helped the list.
The last list is a hell of a lot stronger, though we have seen this list several times on the boards.

This post is perfect. Those are the exact changes I would make to the list except I would probably switch the plasma unit to have Meltas or Flamers... Plasma just seems like the worst of the three choices at this point... Meltas are better against tanks and only slightly less solid against MCs and high T/low SV targets and flamers are much better against horde type units.
100% correct on the sportsmanship thing as well. I tried to point it out earlier in this thread, but I think it was overlooked. Sportsmanship has nothing to do with the army at all, it is based on how the player interacts with his opponent and carries himself during the game. If he's an ultra nice guy who is fun to be around and problems are resolved quickly, easily and as painlessly as possible then he sohuldn't lose sportsmanship points for playing a strong army list. Comp scores are for army lists, sportsmanship scores are for players. I have no clue how this was ever misunderstood, but it seems to be a bit of a problem these days.

Usually a tournament organizer will look into any scores below a 5 in a 10 points system. If someone docks someone that many points and never had a disagreement, never called over a judge to settle a dispute (not just to ask rules), laughed and carried on but still docked them, then I would ask that person to adjust thier score accordingly.

I'd configure the troop units as follows:
10 PM w/ melta x2 - 250
8 NM incl. AC w/ doom siren, Rhino - 225
8 NM incl. AC w/ doom siren, Rhino - 225
More fluffy, and the PM don't need a Rhino.

Good old dual lash, plague marines and oblits. Very effective. Probably won't get you a good comp score.
Sportsmanship has nothing to do with lists imo and is pure behavoir while playing.
I personally don't like 9 Oblits and like to mix up my heavies with some Oblits a Vindicator and a Land Raider for more effectiveness against the top armies but 9 oblits is pretty good.
You do need to mount your plague marines in Rhinos for mobility in taking objectives however. Slogging on foot just doesn't cut it when you need to get to an objective to win the game.
Plasma is so 4th edition now everybody gets a cover save so Plasma isn't so good. I like to give my Plague Marines Melta Flamer for versatility. Melta to bust tanks and flamer to beat the cover save.
