Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine
|
Hi There,
It`s been a little while since our last newsletter and we have lots to tell you; first off we have three great releases which have already been previewed at our open day: The Blight Drone, The Blood Slaughterer and The Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald. We also have news about our Warhound Titan range, upcoming events and the announcement that our new catalogue is ready!
Thanks
Alan Bligh
Blood Slaughterer
A murderous daemon-engine crafted by the servants of the Blood God Khorne, the Slaughterer is a spider-like and heavily armoured war machine larger than a dreadnought. Designed for furious close assault, where it is able to butcher swathes of enemy infantry as well as smash its way through barricades and armoured vehicles with ease.
This wonderfully vicious looking model designed by Phil Stutcinskas is covered in fantastic detail as you can see HERE from its ornate armour to the trapped victims and the ritual daemon-bindings on its chassis. A 360 degree view is also available HERE
Full rules for the Blood Slaughterer can be found in our forthcoming book Imperial Armour Volume Seven, the Siege of Vraks Part Three.
The Blood Slaughterer is available to pre-order now for release the week commencing the 26th of May.
Blight Drone
Another new daemon-engine, this time in the service of Nurgle, Chaos God of decay and corruption is the Blight Drone. A bizarre fusion of daemon, machine and insect this deadly blasphemy of occult science is a skimmer armed with nightmarish toxic weapons.
This striking model, designed by Darren Parrwood, has some great details which depict the Blight Drone’s rusted and decay-pitted armour and bloated organic structure. You can see the Blight Drone HERE as well as a great Blight Drone diorama by Mark Bedford. A 360 degree view is also available HERE.
Full rules for the Blight Drone can be found in our forthcoming book Imperial Armour Volume Seven, the Siege of Vraks Part Three.
The Blight Drone is available to pre-order now for release the week commencing the 26th of May.
Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald
The third of our new releases is our amazing Daemon Prince and Herald of Khorne. Designed by Simon Egan and Will Hayes, the Daemon Prince model stands 3 ¾ inches (9 ½ CM) tall. This brutal beast would be perfectly usable as a Daemon Prince or Greater Daemon either for Warhammer Fantasy Battle or Warhammer 40,000, as can the Herald which is a characterful and (not to mention gore-splattered) large and armoured Bloodletter in form and can be seen HERE. A 360 degree view is also available HERE.
Full rules for this Daemon Prince and his Herald as a special character can be found in our forthcoming book Imperial Armour Volume Seven, the Siege of Vraks Part Three.
The Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald is available to pre-order now for release the week commencing the 26th of May.
A New Way to Purchase Your Warhound Titans
In response to popular demand, we will now be selling all of our existing Warhound titans, including the Mars, Chaos, Wolf and Jackal patterns have been split up so that the titan main bodies and their weapon arms are separate.
As a result our Warhound Titans will now be sold much like our Dreadnought range is with separate weapon options. This will enable us to expand our range more easily in future and help out our many customers who have asked to buy different weapons more freely.
However please note that the existing weapon arms for both the Mars and Chaos pattern Warhounds are ‘sided’ left and right and so may require some cosmetic conversion to use as a pair of the same weapon.
Forge World Catalogue 2009
The new Forge World 2009 catalogue is now available and contains all of our recent releases. If you would like a free copy of the catalogue, which we will send out at no cost to anywhere in the world, you can either send an email with your full name and address details to forgeworldcatreq@games-workshop.co.uk or give a ring on:
0115 916 8177 and we will take your address details and get you one sent out as soon as we can.
Events Information
Forge World will be attending Games Day Baltimore on the 9th of May. Unfortunately the date for reservation orders has now past, but we will have an excellent selection of our stock at the show, including our new Games Day only model the Death Rider Commissar. We will also have Owen Branham from our Studio on hand to answer your questions and preview what we have in store for the future.
Forge World will be attending Games Day Spain on the 31st of May. If you would like to place a reservation order for this show, your reservation should reach us by the 8th of May.
Forge World will also be attending Games Day Canada on the 20th of June. If you would like to place a reservation order for this show, your reservation order should reach us by the 22nd of May.
You can place a reservation order to pick up and pay for on the day, either by giving us a ring or sending us an email to fwreservations@games-workshop.co.uk clearly labelling the order with your name and the show you would like to attend.

Im guessing HBMC will be delighted?
The Slaughterer looks ok I suppose. The Blight Drone is interesting to say the least. I really like the Prince and the Herald.
Overall, good stuff if you ask me

The Blood Slaughterer would also make a great alternate SoulGrinder or Defiler with a little conversion - although I can't be sure how big it is - apparently a little smaller than a SoulGrinder or Defiler?

Looking at the Blood Slaughterer and I'm having teouble working out just how many legs it has. I'm hazarding a guess at two, that bifurcate out?
Not quite sure on the read end of it either, would've prefered something that tailed away to a point of a blade like the Brass Scorpion as opposed to what appears to be the breech loading mechanism of a cannon.
Quite like the Blight Drone but would thought that designers would've gone for three aerofoils to tie in with Nurgle's icon? Then again, maybe that would have detracted further from the maggot/fly look that it appears to lean toward.
The painted up version of the one spurting efflua is cool, a great way to disguise the flying stand.

I love, love, love that the Forgeworld guys seem to 'get' that Chaos needs a separate aesthetic besides 'Imperial vehicles with spikes on them'. Yes the Defiler was a nice start, but that was released along with the 4TH EDITION codex.
I understand that Chaos Legions are a vital part of the Chaos mythos but they really need to develop the 'idea' of the Chaos army beyond the CSM legions and Daemons. And I'm not talking about just adding a LatD army list to the game.
IMHO, a "Chaos" codex should allow players to field a full (mortal) army of Chaos. Yes, you should be able to play a purely CSM army if you want, but these guys should really be few and far between in the galaxy, even less than regular SMs as they don't have enough new recruits (or the tech) to replenish their losses (even including new SM elements that go renegade). The 'typical' Chaos army should include a few CSMs that are super bad-ass (as they've lived for thousands of years and are powered by Chaos as well) flanked by crazy cultists and mutants and backed up obscenely cool Daemon engines like those Forgeworld is finally putting out.
Yeah, some CSM equipment from the Heresy should still be around (or those from SMs that have recently gone renegade), but again, they should be all ancient and extra-dangerous warpified versions of their SM counterparts' equipment. But MOST equipment from the Heresy should have either failed (or have been destroyed) by now or be so twisted that it is nearly unrecognizable as to what it originally was. In the 10,000 years since the Heresy, Chaos forges have been building all sorts of crazy Daemon engines so why aren't these things more common on the battlefield when compared with old-ass Land Raiders/Rhinos/Predators that still look exactly the same as they always have except with spikes on them?
I can only hope and pray that when GW gets around to doing more Chaos codices they continue on with their trend of stealing Forgeworld designs and we start to get some truly 'Chaotic' looking vehicles in the Chaos army. It will be so great to see Chaos armies that actually LOOK really different from standard SM armies.
So I say KUDOS to Forgeworld. I LOVE their Daemon engines!!!

The Slaughterer has a real big issue to me:
It couldn't walk.
Same issue as the Tyranid Heirophant. Legs that end in points don't exactly work, especially if the object is heavy.
I see them coming, I start pouring water all over the ground and saturate the area. They walk through and sink up to their torso. Immobilized, bitches!
Even without soaking the ground they couldn't walk well.
I like the Khornate Prince, though. Could be used for more than just GW games.

Now that I can see the whole Blight Drone I live them even more. I didn

I like the Slaughterer, but the Demon Prince is a bit boring imo.

They still have multi-piece resin toes that will be horribly miscast and covered in flash, and take all the Titans weight, so no, not delighted. When it's plastic, then I'll care.

I still think the slaughterer is a warjack rip. I agree about chaos needing some variety considering that they are, after all, chaos. The drone seems so out of place in the warhams world but I really like the design. If this is the direction fw is going to be going then I'm all for it.

All these releases do make it obvious that the final Vraks book will be more about hams in power armour than the men in flak who were fighting the war for the first ten years. I wouldn't be too surprised if the men of Krieg were shoved to the background in the final instalment to make place for wacky antics of mahreens and inquisitors.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing, the Krieg range is, bluntly put, massive, with fewer "holes" in it than several of GW's mainstream armies. Giving more spotlight space for Marines, Chaos Marines and Inquisitorial forces lets them write a third Vraks book that at least tries to give something to the people who have been twiddling their thumbs in boredom while FW released a million and one trench-warfare models.
That being said, it's a bit sad the Death Korps do not appear to be getting their own special character along with Zhufor and Rex, but then again, they're much more about faceless hordes of Guardsmen doing and dying in the Emperor's name.

The Daemon Prince is OK... Over the top, but it's from a line where over the top works.
I kind of like the drone. The techy bits are a bit too high-tech for the Imperium, but I guess it could be a pre-heresy 'core' that has been daemonically infested over ten thousand years.
The Blood Slaughterer seems very 'Warmachine' inspired for some reason..

I think yakface speaks for the sentiments of a lot of us here. Is it so much to ask that chaos has more uniqueness. Even small things would make a difference. I mean now that GW is using digital modeling couldn't they add chaos embellishments to the rhino and produce an actual Chaos Rhino instead of Imperial Rhinos with chaos bits.
I am excited to see forgeworld doing what Games Workshop should be doing.

For that price, I'm thinking triple fleeting defilers with max punchy arms personally. Only when they're immobilized will I have to figure out where the bcannon shot comes from - my guess is from yelling in anger at not being able to bloodily slaughter things properly. - Salvage

The Blood Slaughterer looks kind of goofy to me, and the name is a bit corny (pun not intended).
The Daemon prince, on the other hand, is wonderful! My only beef with it is that it's a bit thin, it should be like an ab-king. Even more so than Catachans.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

This has be inspired to start a new faction for my Chaos army. It will be the Chaos equivalent of the Grey Knights, extra-hard chaos space marines from the old legions who have been especially marked by chaos to follow-up the Thirteenth Black Crusade and make sure that this time, Abaddon doesn't screw it up. They will have all sort of the strangest Daemon weapons, Xenos Chaos tech and mutations that make them nearly unrecognizable. I really need to buy a digital camera.

Blood Slaughterer is/was an old Khornate Demon Engine, it had a metal torso, giant khorne head with bolters in the mouth, under the torso were two ork big gunz wheels side by side, and to stop it from tipping over, had a mini third track wheel (kinda like r2d2's middle stabilizing track) in the back.
It was Fugly. This is a huge improvement, let me tell you.

I may be completely, 100% dead wrong on this, but I still say the studio must not have been given the leeway to shake up Chaos. What we've been given is IMO clearly conceptually lacking, and I just think the designers and sculptors are capable of much, much better work.
IMO, it seemed almost obvious that the new Chaos codex would incorporate some of that old-style Chaos flavor into the army. Codex: LatD was probably always a longshot, but it seemed clear that there were many good new ideas and nods to the past in LatD that ought to be preserved. But now more than ever, the CSM line really is spiky loyalists with a few "Chaos" units thrown in.
I suppose this may be the downside of plastic miniatures. Once sprues are finished and molds are created, there's little business incentive to make anything more than a certain number of tweaks to a given line. It's less painful scrapping and redoing a metal miniatures line. FW doesn't suffer from conceptual handcuffs from above nor plastic manufacturing constraints, ergo they end up producing the superior stuff.
