Yup... GW announced through its What's New Today Blog that free shipping is here to stay. Place an order over $15 and you get free shipping.

"As well as all the extra hobby content we've got planned for this week, we've also made our shipping offer even better. Way better. Whenever you place an order before 1pm we'll make sure it leaves our warehouse on the very same day. So you'll get your order as quickly as humanely possible. On top of that, you'll get free shipping on all orders over £10**. Regular visitors of the site will know that for a while now, we've been offering free shipping on a month-by-month basis, but to thank you for all your emails and support over the last year, we wanted to do something extra nice for you - from now on free shipping*** is here to stay!"

The '*' indicate terms and conditions that cover minimum order amounts and currency exchange rates.

Do they even sell anything under $15 anymore?

thats a nice deal, it'd be nice also if they'd bring back some deals like the apocalypse formations with Spearhead out now.. or even just save whatever% off if you buy 3 of the same tank.

That's £'s not $'s.

And I think the question was somewhat sarcastic in nature....

Unless you're ordering a bare minimum, even GW's "free shipping" offer won't help their prices compete with places like Wargamers Cave, MiniatureMarket and The Warstore!

For those in the USA...it's not free...it's actually an exchange...exchanging VAT for shipping.

Not a critique because I buy from both Mael and Wayland...

And (although I rarely buy from GW US direct) this does make GW US more competitive as its removes two of the four costs.

No, they cant compete. Ill still be using other discount stores. But its an acknowledgement. And therefore a step in the right direction. A baby step to some, perhaps a giant leap to others. But at least theyve done something

Do maelstrom not strip off VAT? -By my understanding anything that gets exported does not have to pay VAT if they are doing their accounts properly. I've ordered from a number of uk based online stores before that will take the VAT off for non-european orders.

It will however help them compete against your average FLGS.

Which is my way of saying this doesn't seem all that retailer-friendly. *shrug*

I'd still rather go to a FLGS than order retail from GW unless there was something my shop couldn't get from them and I don't think I've ever had that happen. I used to do bitz orders though, but i don't think that will ever be happening again...

I think that FLGSs have always been seen as a stopgap for 'real' GW stores. B&M stores will have to discount to compete. IIRC B&M stores get an increased discount over internet suppliers when purchasing from GW.

Incidentally what's the difference in cost between say a Tactical Squad at the old price + postage vs. a Tactical Squad + free postage at the new price?

If you don't have a physical store location, GW won't sell to you.

I kinda figured this would happen eventually, considering that, since I started in october, they've kept the free shipping going.

November: Free shipping till the end of the month
December: Free shipping till the end of the month
January: Free shipping extended
Feb: Free shipping extended

And so on. Honestly, did anyone else see this coming, or am I the only one?

I'm actually rather surprised they're admitting it's going to be free shipping indefinitely. I figured they'd keep doing their "Quick, buy it now, this could be the last month!" thing for a lot longer.

The "Free Shipping" offer started right after IG codex came out, else I would have gotten it from GW instead of the disaster of an order I "got" through Maelstrom Game. Actually, I did end up getting it from GW because of a later shipping error. Since the offer began, it has said that it will end at the last day of whatever the current month it is. Like Aduro, I figured they would just keep the status quo and keep doing it that way.

There is nothing compelling them. So do and some do not...it 'costs' them to administer it so it's easier not to. The British government only cares if you do not pay

They are also free to end it at any time they wish. Still, it is nice to know it's in place for a while rather than wondering every month when it will end.

LOL

I don't know.
That's a LOT of insult they've already built up. : )

I was thinking about one thing, though... This WILL make me more likely to buy bitz packs, if I ever need them (since you can't get them through retailers).

Sometimes it is just as cheap to go through GW if you only want the latest codex or something else "cheap" (like the mentioned bitz packs), especially when a 20% (or more) discount is drowned out by shipping costs.

You guys notice that the "Free Shipping" release on June 1st coincides with the Price Increases that were supposed to go into effect today as well? Maybe they're just wrapping shipping into the product and calling it square. . .

Other than that they've had free shipping for like the past half year, and they've merely stopped saying it on a month by month basis.
