Ok so last night/today I've been putting together my Forgeworld Bloodthirster.

It was 1am and I was looking at it the axe fist thinking, something is definatley wrong here.

Then it hits me... they've only gone and bloomin' made the axe backwards!

How the hell did that happen? It's a moulded part! The axe is held in his right hand, the blade is pointing left as though he wants to carve his own wings off. :S

It was 1am and you doubt yourself at these times so I was sure I was wrong but I checked several times the picture of the part on the instruction sheet and the blade is facing the correct way in the picture.

In the end I cut it off, pinned it and glued it the correct way round and it's now looking right again.

It's all put together now but there are lots of gaps that need sorting out with greenstuff and the claw-like things to go on top of the wings weren't in the box so it'll be greenstuff for them too. *sigh*

You'd like to think they'd take some measure of care with the kit costing £135 but whatever the model looks awesome and like an abused partner I'll probably still end up going back for more.

I just don’t know how something like that happens with the moulding of the axe being wrong it doesn't seem possible. Anyone else had something like this?

I bought it at Gamesday and i doubt i have receipt anymore either (my fault) so it'd be a headache sorting it out.

You expect a little bit of messing around with resin, but this is peculiar

Did you take a picture of it? If you hadn't cut it up I'm sure they woud have sent you a replacement.

I built my one of these a month ago and the axe was fine, it sounds bizarre, I have no idea how that could have happened

It's entirely possible that the axe handle was warped in shipping. That could theoretically turn it around 180 degrees. Were the little runes on the handle distorted?

It didn't have any signs of warping, and I bought it directly from the forgeworld guys over the counter but it could stilll have moved i guess. But if it did move it was a perfect 180* rotation

Still possible for it to have warped somehow... are the runes on the handle in sort of a spiral, or straight up and down the handle?

Spiral = warped, straight = not warped.

Going by what the OP said, it seems far to misshapen for it to have just warped, I'm not saying its impossible, but it really is a big piece and for the entire thing to be the wrong way round doesn't seem right.

How else could it have happened? As far as I know, FW doesn't make their molds backward for a single casting...

Give FW a ring. Explain the situation and they will likely send out another arm / axe - depending on what the components are like.

These things happen - stay calm, chat on the phone to them and see what they say. I have NEVER had any issues with their CS phone line!

@sainthazzard- I dont know thats why I asked if there was a pic. For it to be that warped and to be facing exactly 180 degrees the other way seems really unlikely.

@OP- check my gallery, I've got loads of pic's of my FW bloodthirster on there, that way you can compare against.

I will do as soon as I get home and find that stealthy and ellusive USB lead for my camera

Theres no runes on this models axe handle (checked FW) axe but theres some straight lines going down the handle and I'm pretty sure my axe looked straight but I shall see tonight. Can't think of any other explination for it though, unless they're working on a twin axe thirster and made a mistake while boxing... might explain why the wing tips are missing too.

However I do know its on the right hand I checked the thumb on his fist so that's for certain at least

When you have removed every other possibility, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be your answer.

Wing tips should come on a sprue allong with the "armour decorations" like the 3 skulls on chains that hang between his legs. There should be ingraved khorne symbols and arrows allong the shaft. should look like......

GAWD, that's a beautiful axe. On a beautiful model.

On-topic, those are the runes I was referring to either.

Looking at it a second time, though, I can see where the blade is connected to the haft in two places - twisting around 180 degrees would require some serious warping on just that lower section of the haft alone, which is very unlikely.

But not impossible!

Thank you

I'm sure it would snap before it was abe to rotate that small piece all the way round, but untill we see what the problem case looks like theres no way of explaining this freak of nature

I absolutely love FW's greater daemons, the only exception being their Lord of Change model - I marginally prefer GW's model on that one. Right now all my Daemons are Tzeentch Daemons, but eventually I may have a Skittles army, and if I do, the FW Bloodthirster and GUO will be must-haves for me.

And you did a great job with the paintjob on that Bloodthirster.

Makes me want to buy one just to paint, but my wallet says "NO MEANS NO."

Er. ON TOPIC, you're probably right. We'll see for sure when we see some pictures.

Ah but its a lot more likely that the fist would have rotated, thats what i've been thinking about (hence why i say no runes there. )

Off topic for a sec, I like the Lord of Change one too, its on my shopping list. It's a lot nicer in the... flesh/resin and is 5/6 times the size of the the normal lords of change . However the wings are too round. I'd have to go round the edges with greenstuff or something and make them more untidy and ragged at the edges

@obsidianaura - If that was the case you could probably cut the handle just at the top of the the light brown part (in my pic) and rotate the axe head and pin it back together. If it is warped though you might be able to get it back to shape by putting it in hot water. When I first shaped the whips on my 'thirster they werent quite right. When I tried to re-shape them I just put them in hot water and they went back to being competely straight like they were originally.

With a piece as big as the hand it would be a long shot, but worth a try maybe?

Don't worry GC as i say i've sorted it out I was just talking about how strange it was really.

My thirsters wings weren't too bad but there are a few little gaps where the wings skin attaches to the body, I'll sort that with greenstuff though.

Next time my girlfriend has a bath i'll put it in, it'll clean the resin and might help the wings fit better. I'm sure she wont mind, think of hot water saving. I'm being eco-friendly

mine was the same, they were the only part that really took any green stuffing on my one. If you want any tips, read through my blog (in my sig), It's not anything amazing, but when i was making mine I could have really done with somthing to follow. It would have stopped me making some of the problems I had.

Just looked through it. I'm sure it'll come in usefull. I'll have to do a log too .

I'm going to leave my wings on though so i can paint it with greenstuff on.

Hopefully have the paint job close to completion by the end of the week .

First things first though go home now and take picture of the oddball axe

Right well here's the picture its from my phone I'm afraid because I cannot find the stupid camera lead :(

As you can see no sign of twisting. You might be able to see where i cut and rotated it it (the first metal clasp above the hand holding it)

I cant see any signs of warping
