Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

Whatsup guys! Im in the process of painting my first army of Ultramarines and I need some tips on building my army. Right now I have 1 tactical squad, 1 assult squad, 1 scout squad with sniper rifles, 1 terminator squad, 1 dreadnought, and 1 captian. Im actually pretty happy with the paint jobs so far. I also started to free hand some symbols witch is actually pretty fun to do. i prefer that over trying to transfer those freakin decals  I will post some pics soon!!

I actually wanted to play chaos marines but I got the black reach set so I just went with the ultra marines. They are startin to grow on me but I still plan on eventually building a chaos army.
Do you do freehand symbols?? im having a hard time with some of them.

No problem! Practice is the only way to get better with freehand work, start with basic stuff (lines and basic shapes ect) first until you get confident enough to try anyhting more detailed.

So far the hardest thing for me to freehand is the roman numeral numbers. I thought those would be easy but i was wrong. I hope to post some pics tommorow please give me any tips or suggestions you have, Or tell me they suck i dont mind haha

thanx for all the welcomes! i tried some freehand stuff on the top of my terminators.....i think it sucked so I had to paint over it a bunch of times so now it kinda looks alittle thick. Oh well i learned my lesson, i should have listened to Gorechild haha. Im gunna stick to the ultramarines symbol and easy stuff for now. pics soon!!

so I just got a chaos lord!! im super pumped to convert my black reach marines to chaos but it sux because ive already painted them as ultra marines. i also bought scouts with sniper rifles and an assault squad with jump packs. Should i repaint them or just paint chaos symbols on them and use them as traitors with the rules of chaos marines? are the rules for chaos alike to the space marines? im kinda stuck and im not sure how to go about doing this!!!

If you want game advice, Dont buy calgar, reason:
people will moan and say that your a bandwagoner plus Cato sicarius is MUCH more better. If you want CSM advice just come to me.
Hope your stay here is long and enjoy full.

haha thanx for the advice!! How should I choose a capter for CSM? Can an army contain multiple chapters? Oh and one more question what do you think of scout sergent Telion?

Well Telion I Dont know the rules much for him but ( AFAIK) if your having a scout army he good to go.
And CSM Dont have chapters, the have Warbands, and if your choosing a warband go for a god you like the most;
Khorne=god of blood and battle.
Tzeench=god of destiny and change.
Nurgle=god of decay and pestilence.
Slannesh=god of Excessive joy and pain.

Welcome! It really depends on what Chaos army you want. I would go for Nurgle, because they're strong, tough, and cool. But that's just me. If you want strong, go Nurgle. Fast, Slaanesh. Close-combatey, Khorne. Sorcery, Tzeentch.
