Im talking for anything, not just wargaming and the like. Have you actually learned something useful? Something important? Something that made you look smarter in a normal conversation? Anything like that counts.

I know personally, from time to time, Ive actually had those "Huh, didnt know that" moments from discussions on here. And thanks to a few level headed smart DAKKAnauts, Ive actually won an argument with a "college smart guy"

But, I'll go with the general response of learning painting techniques and I guess tactics. I don't know really but it's nice none the less.
Of course there's also the fact that if you are the victim of something there is always a way in which someone can figure out how it is your fault.

Probably the biggest thing I've learned is that the gaming community is waaaaay more diverse than I originally thought...to be more specific, it's not just filled with your stereotypical "highschool geeks".

The biggest thing I have taken away from the OT forum here is things aren't as "black and white" as what I used to think.

I shouldnt be too shocked, but I still am a little bit. The last couple threads Ive made, maybe 3 or 4 people stuck to the topic. EVERYONE else did nothing just piss from the mouth and add +1 to the post counts.

I've learned to react more than, oh thats not good to certain bits of news around the world when disaster strikes. I now wonder, hope there where no Dakkanauts close.

For example when the tornados hit Texas last week, I was considering if any Dakka folks where in the area, and made sure to come on here later to see if all our Texas Dakkanauts where doing well.

Dakka has turned me into a big softie.


Oh it also introduced me to Infinity, would never have paused to look at it in a LFGS, if not for the enthusiasm here.

I have learned a great deal about a lot of subjects by reading this site, even sometimes in the OT section. I have made a lot of purchases, mostly regarding wargaming but also board games, roleplaying games, and video games, based on what other Dakkanauts have said -- and avoided some purchases, too. Dakka has been especially good of late for directing me to Kickstarter projects that I am interested in backing.

I learned how to argue, a few new laws, and how not to be an idiotic teenager.

And that KC's kids are better at Xbox than he is.

One actually useful thing that I've found out is that many people don't truly believe in the conspiracy theories that they rant about; I believe that in most cases they just bring up these ideas in order to troll others.

Being serious as to what I actually learned now:

Wargamers like heavy metal.
How to do a number of painting techniques such as drybrushing and how to go about basing my miniatures better.
How to make a good army list that isn't spammy.
That the majority of the people in this hobby play more for fun and the fluff than for competitive reasons, despite what BOLS would teach you.
Just read the part that said non-wargaming related. So, not to argue with atheists about religion. That has certainly come in useful IRL.

Nazi Atlantis is just a myth ... sure it is.
