I learned that we have a plan for the zombie apocalypse.
I learned about TFGs, cheese, and Mary-sues.
Dakka is on top when it comes to news. OT can be a scary, but oddly educational place.
I've made friends, and have been intrigued enough by some to start airsoft.
Dakka also has the best bronies.

But then, I've also learned people can have stupid ideas and do things that turn out to be embarrassing. But in a weird way, it's character building.

Good job on Airsofting, its a blast. I loved it when I was doing it. OT isn't scary, just ignore a few people and it's a great place

I learned that the wargamer on Dakka considers himself superior to the wargamers in their FLGS, who are Neckbeards or snot-nosed kids, while all Dakka posters are well-groomed, erudite and special snowflakes

I have learned, and I share that learning with all of you, that you can instantly tell who plays Warhammer by simply saying WAAAGH!. If you hear an Echo, a game of Marco WAAAGH!lo begins, and you will eventually find eachother, muckin about.

It really is! Its so fething simple but its true. Any other army, you cant just throw a bajillion of 1 unit at a problem and solve it. Boyz OTOH, do that nicely

The debate team in my school is much to formal. They spend a month preparing, and spend an hour actually debating. It's way to goddamn civil.

OT is so much fun. Facts are entirely optional.

I was coerced onto my school debate team because I was quite good at it, but I always hated the sophistry. I cannot stand being told to argue a point I don't agree with, or twist someone else's argument to "win". The point of a debate should be communication of ideas, not victory.

I was shambolic in my preparations and would often ad lib, but I still got on alright in a few of the debates.

I completely agree, Chowder. The OT is my main source of entertainment on the Internet. Whenever I need a break from the old homework I lurk and lol.

Also, my school hasn't blocked DerpaDerpa.com (I really need to buy that name) yet, so I'm QLTM in class!

Might sound cliche, but all sorts of social skills. When you have the pressure of a ban (or your own humiliation) over your head for being outrageous and saying stupid things, you learn pretty quick that that there's a reason you're being asked to take a break... I don't use that reasoning to act civilized anymore, but I definitely think dakkadakka has taught me a little restraint; something a lot of people my age are missing, and that I appreciate.

As far as I know, the people I'm communicating with are mostly adults who are successful and intelligent. Everyone is (for the most part) articulate, and puts detail and elaborations into their posts. I try to carry that over into my own writing, and I think I can organize my thoughts a little more competently than I did before dakkadakka.

Normal part of growing up, lads. I could say the same for the Fora I used to browse when I was 17, which were mostly college focused. I nearly got kicked out of Uni twice for being an aggravating and self righteous arse on the fora.

I'm better now . Blander, but better.

That, once you get used to ignoring the trolls and internet tough guys, there are actually a lot of lovely people out there who enjoy the same hobby that I do, and are more than happy to give hints and tips to those people newer to their hobby/game system. And that Chaos is begin to grow.
