The shade may not be exactly the same, but it looks very very similar.

I suspect there'll be a suitable alternative, but buy a couple of pots just in case maybe!

I had a hunch that they might be doing this. ie pre-watered down for the layers. This is a great idea for those that haven't learned how to thin correctly, like most of their target customer base, but for those of us that can actually paint it is an insult of a joke. Selling us water...

While I'm as happy as the next bloke to bash GW for being stupid, this is getting a little carried away. You should be able to paint straight from the pot. The fact that GW's paints have generally needed to be watered down is a flaw, not a feature.

As has been mentioned several times so far, Devlan Mud is still theoretically there, with a name change. How different it will actually be from the current Devlan Mud remains to be seen.

I caved and got the complete set, you get a free large case to store the paints in, which I figured would be a nice addition, but no real discount. It's a limited item apparently, but I'd wager it's limited to the number of people who have over $500 to blow on paint, rather than them having a limited supply.

I figured I'd sell me existing paints to people who want to have backups for ongoing projects to recoup some of the cost.

While a lot of people are complaining, I'm just happy GW has taken feedback from people on their paints and tried to change things up a little. The painting guides are key for me, never get bored of learning new techniques.

I have bought 4 new paints over the last 3 days. I don't trust GW to get it right when matching up old and new paints. And I needed proper foundation paints

Maybe it is just a temporary fault but maybe not...

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Meh, they can call them anything they like so long as the quality is still decent. I will give them a test on a few spare plastic minis next weekend.

*edit*

Finally got in. One paint is $3.00, so no change there really. Painting guide is $49.50. Will have to look through it, but $50 puts it above most name painter videos.

Eh? A flaw? I can paint straight from tub, and do quite often. All you need is a damp brush.

Like I said, i'm sure it will go down well with GW's target audience even if it does turn out to be pre-thinned to the 'skimmed milk' consistency that many have trouble achieving.

So no, I persoanly am not getting carried away, as I personally am capable of deciding for myself how much to thin my paints. YMMV of course.

Water is free and can be added to taste at the whim of the painter, whereas making it thicker at will is quite the opposite. Well, if the current/old tubs didn't do it for us while sitting on the shelf.

I am still very much looking forward to trying out the new paints of course, but I'm very seriously hoping that The Decapitators post was just a guess with regards to the watering down, and he wasn't speaking through personal experience (which was unlikely, though not impossible, at the time of posting).

It's all moot of course anyway, as we will find out for ourselves whether or not we like the new paints come tomorrow!

I suspect that you're reading too much into the 'paint straight from the pot' comment. Most model paints are usable straight from the pot, without being that thin... because most people don't use them that thin.

The trouble with GW paints for the last decade or so has been with them thickening up when not in constant use, thus requiring them to be watered down when you use them. This isn't a problem I've had with most other ranges. So I would take the 'paint straight from the pot' claim to simply mean that the 'new' paints won't be as prone to thickening as the current crop.

from the website-
'When it comes to painting Citadel Miniatures, this book is an absolute must-have. This mighty tome is crammed full of information about painting; from undercoating your miniatures and applying your first layer of paint, right through to your final highlight.

To help you achieve great results there are 136 pages of articles on how to undercoat your models, how to apply Base Paints, Shades, Layers and Glazes, how to use Textured Paints, what Drybrushing is all about, how to use transfers, and many other techniques. There's even a 90-minute DVD included to show you how to put these techniques into practice and get the most out of the extensive Citadel Paint Range. The book also includes eight army projects, each of which is a complete army painting guide from start to finish.

And if that wasn't enough, the book has been designed to stand up on its own, so you don't need to wedge it underneath something to be able to see the stage-by-stage painting guides inside. All in all, this is one book that every hobbyist should own, whether you're new to painting Citadel miniatures, or a painting guru.'
