I think indepdendant stockists are only allowed to order six of each colour at the moment. I was also told that they have to order at least the 'basic range' of 70 odd paints. Maelstrom's site stated that they could only order six of each colour initially, and hence were quickly out of most colours.

I'm really pleased to hear that these new paints are better than the old. I just hope we don't see the quality mysteriously drop over the following months.

Annoyingly, I am off work for four days but wont' be able to pick my parcel up until Tuesday.

Picked up a few paints today and experimenting on some spare Tactical Marines I have. I bought Mephiston Red, Ceramite White, Leadbelcher, Abaddon Black, Imperial Primer, Sotek Green, Nuln Oil and Hashut Copper.

I normally do a base of Mechrite Red, then a wash of Badab Black, then a 50/50 mix of Mechrite and Blood Red for my BA; today I tried substituting the Mechrite base and the mechrite/blood topcoat for pure Mephiston Red. The colour ends up a little brighter but not something you'd notice massively. For BA players though Mephiston Red is basically the perfect colour for the red you need.

For my Wraithkind I use Hawk Turquoise; I have to say that Sotek Green isn't exactly the same (I see it as slightly more blue in tint than Hawk Turquoise, despite it being called a Green paint now. The difference is minor though.

Nuln Oil is brilliant; it will still pool on flat surfaces but nowhere near as much as the old washes. It finds the recesses much better though.

Not tried the others yet but impressions are good so far.

In the first week, only shops stocking half the paint range ("Module2") or full paint range ("Module 5") get their stock. Each module is one package with 6 pots of each colour (12 if they are marked as bestsellers and get 2 slots in the rack). So in the first week, all stores worldwide get either 0,1, or 2 packages (plus rack if needed). This is a huge logistic effort with no time to deal with thousands of individual orders and pack all of them. Only beginning next week are stores able to order restock.

And some colors (ie Mephiston Red) have multiple rows.

My FLGS had a full rack this morning which means that for a few colors they had more than 6 pots of a single color.

Has anyone done a solid review on them yet? Particularly one with pictures? I'm super curious about the textures, especially the Mourn Mountain Snow.

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

Yea, I don't understand why the whole supposed "rumor blackout" would apply to paints. Know the employees at my FLGS were complaining that the slots were shorter, didn't realize they could only hold six. They will have to hold them in the extras in the back or wait till they are fully out. Stupid GW. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Well I don't use a lot of GW paints, so doesn't affect me

All retailers got was a vague, short sentence that we've got to be prepared to sell off our old paints, and prepare for a big expenditure sometime at the beginning of April. No hint about how big an expenditure, I didn't even know Empire stuff was out until last week when they announced it!

I'm sure GW knew ages ago they were changing paints, that said, their quality control isn't exactly spot on, I'm sat here with a pot of blue paint with the label 'Emporer's Children'

There was a page spread in this months WD about water effects with some examples of what to do with it so I would assume they are either already selling it or about to.

It's expensive though! I suppose no real surprise there though... but Woodland Scenics, and a company called Javis, do alternatives. The Javis is about half the price for probably the same amount.

I hope they do a tutorial with it, or something along those lines because it can be difficult to use properly, especially the water effects in gel form that you have to heat up

Water effects is released next Saturday. And it is the non-heating single-component type, which probably shrinks like mad if you try thicker layers.
