That would be pretty amusing actually...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I decided to give a little detail to the Fire Hawks Razorback I painted up for Yellowbeard after all. I figured this would be a more "natural" look after our Rebel team vs. Loyalist team battle Friday night at Adepticon.

And now for some "actual" progress...

Got the second set of rhino hatch doors fitted, magnetized and primed this morning. Painting should commence this evening.

oh man your tanks are soo cool.

mine look really plain. Purple is very hard to make look good (all mine are in my Gallery, I wont pollute your thread with my tatty painting).

I am almost tempted to swap them over to a green like your Marines. Albeit as they are guard, without the yellow!

@Ross: Actually, the only problem with your tanks are that they aren't purple enough!! I'd love to work in purple for a while, it would be so refreshing after all this green and yellow! (Thank you for the compliment though.)

@YB: Just trying to ease you into it mate... don't want your total defeat on that Friday to be an overwhelmingly crushing experience.

For as masterful a painter you are Gits you can't shoop to save yourself mate.

On that note though a line of bullet holes would look sick as going across the side armour.

Thanks Matt. Be great to meet you in person too. Still working on the last few bits. I'm running out of time unfortunately... practice tournament tomorrow. Did a neat bit of scratchbuilding last night. We'll see how it turns out.

@Nash: Thanks mate! Glad you stopped by and found things to your liking! More things below for you to check out.

Finished up the second rhino in time for the tournament yesterday.

You can see from the insets that I made a last minute adjustment to my list, dropping the melta bombs from my sergeant and adding an extra storm bolter onto each vehicle. MUCH more useful in the long run. It's simply the two bolt guns that came with the rhino, filed off a bit and stuffed into a cowl of sorts made from a piece of square plastic tubing. The handles were from the storm bolter on the "upgrade" kit (the storm bolters included in the kit were God-awful big). I just mounted them on pins so they could be easily dropped into the hole already on the top of those little hatches & removed again. They're raised to give the impression of being controlled by a gunner in the hatch (just for some variation). I would have liked to have magnetized them & made them the same style as the other one (which is remotely controlled by a crew member) but I had neither the proper gun nor the time to do the magnetizing. I also painted and "decorated" the inside with an Imperial symbol and a propaganda poster or two. I may do something more elaborate if I make another one of these from scratch.

Here's what they look like together.

Tournament yesterday was a mixed bag.

We won game 1 handily against two very cool, very funny opponents with a crazy fluffy army.
We got destroyed in game two by a Nid list that had 6 monstrous creatures. We had no hope of stopping it (it won the battle points prize).
We got destroyed by an ork/eldar list that we should have beaten... we (mainly me) just misplayed it and we had the worst dice luck ever & they were rolling fantastically well. It was very frustrating.

On the bright side, we won the painting competition. We used the display boards that IceAngel made for us two years ago for Adepticon. We mixed our armies throughout the boards giving a real "brothers in arms" kind of feel to it. Must have been a good decision. I used my prize to pick up the "Honoured Imperium" set... which I have long coveted. Going to enjoy painting that!

There were some nice looking armies at the tournament. Guard army I really liked (which I don't admit to very often having hated guard with the heat of a thousand suns since 3rd edition). Also a couple of guys were running RT era orks, which were well painted and quite delightful to look at! I got a few pics on my phone camera that I'll share a bit later. Norbu the Destoryer has got a great looking tyranid army. Man that guy can paint!

We do have a few pictures from the battle that Solar_lion took. I'll share those a bit later. Still groggy from too much steak last night.

The Rhinos look great, Gits. I love the poster inside. Nice touch.

Tourney sounds like it was worthwile. Wish I could have made it.

It was definitely worth while. Allowed me to test the final tweaks of my army and get some time playing with SL. We also discovered that I should have no say in deployment what-so-ever! Now, I've always maintained that deployment is the worst part of my game... but my teammates keep forcing me to make decisions so when things go south, it's no surprise.

Funny thing...I got to play your nid opponent right after you and he beat us pretty soundly as well. I was actually feeling pretty down on myself because during the match I was corrected several times on the rules by my oppenents and the TO. I hate it when I forget a rule or misinterpret the rules. By the end of the match I felt like a complete n00b. So I was up all night reading the various FAQ and rule books as well as looking up conversation on YMDC. Looks like I was actually right each time . So I am in a pretty happy mood right now even if I am sleep deprived.

Excellent work amigo. Watch those meat sweats though Really pleased for you on the painting front too.
Why were the nids so challenging? Was it simply through lack of plasma in your lists?
