Went to the Columbia and had that issue, maybe it was just a slow day and I was getting the full attention. But within the 5 minutes I was inside, I was asked the first question, and then he proceeded (once I answered guard) to try to sell me a stompa, and the new large monster gw case, and paints.

Odd thing was I bought a valkyrie anyway, I just like wandering by myself in peace before purchasing what I came for..

i think you are lucky then. every store i've been in multiple states in widely different parts of the US (about GW 5 stores total from the great lakes to the gulf coast) has always given me the old and loud "HI, WHAT ARMY DO YOU PLAY?!? Who doesn't. Most of the staff I know are experienced enough to tell when people want help and when they know what they want and should be left alone to sell themselves. But I never blame them for trying to show off the latest merchandise when I walk in, especially if they don't know me well, as long as they don't overdo it. It is their job after all.

Not to get genuinely whiny or anything, but it kinda sucks to hear all these people getting to see the codex in-person half a week earlier than I will (at best) only to talk about the pretty pictures and not about the rules. :p

That argument is not even close to being valid, considering that apart from rather minor deformations, Orks are essentially humanoid. It does not matter if they are aliens, they look like malformed humans.

Or is it humans that look like malformed Orks? Seriously, these nerd-debates don't contribute anything, have no objective answer that will keep them from going on to infinity, and what's more it has little to do with what's in the Grey Knights preview kit that just hit stores. Isn't there an Off-Topic area here for those kinds of endless geek arguments? Grrr.

A fellow on another, better forum pointed out an interesting thing. He argued that the problem with the Dreadknight is that it takes away from the sense of desperation and heroism in the Grey Knights' background. They're now portrayed as perfectly capable, equipped to handle even catastrophic incursions without any real risk. Considering the likely rules given to the Dreadknight, I suspect its tabletop performance will bear this out, splatting Bloodthirsters like puny insects.

@ Lord Scythican, you will be pleased to find that the word "Scythian" appears in the Grey Knights Codex.

For those Warhammer fans here who don't read history books see below. And the letter "C" is always a hard C in ancient languages like Latin, Greek or Celtic, so say it like the letter "K", not like in the word for a farm implement, "scythe".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythians
The Scythians or Scyths[1] (Ancient Greek: Σκύθαι) were an ancient Iranian people of horse-riding nomadic pastoralists[2] who throughout Classical Antiquity dominated the Pontic-Caspian steppe, known at the time as Scythia. Before 2006, they were believed to have ranged west of the Altai Mountains, until a royal burial was found to the east in Mongolia.[3] By Late Antiquity the closely-related Sarmatians came to dominate the Scythians in the west. Much of the surviving information about the Scythians comes from the Greek historian Herodotus (c. 440 BC) in his Histories and Ovid in his poem of exile Epistulae ex Ponto, and archaeologically from the depictions of Scythian life shown in relief on exquisite goldwork found in Scythian burial mounds in Ukraine and Southern Russia.

The name "Scythian" has also been used to refer to various peoples seen as similar to the Scythians, or who lived anywhere in a vast area covering present-day Central Asia, Russia, and Ukraine—known until medieval times as Scythia. They have been described as "a network of culturally similar tribes."[4] For example, the name of the Scythians has been used in reference to the Goths.

An nice post, marred by a dig at Dakka. :(

I think that the desperation of the Imperium and the GK, as a whole, doesn't change based on this. The Imperium has always been capable in the moment, but incapable of fighting all those moments at once. I.e. You can't be everywhere. The Grey Knights still know they are fighting a losing battle against chaos. I think some of the fluff in the leaked codex exemplified this. The Dreadknight shows that, despite this, they keep trying to find new ways to fight.

Nice! What does scythian refer to in the codex? I am glad someone recognized it. People ask me what it means all the time. I should them the stuff you mentioned and I make reference to an old Ravenloft Lord from D&D 2E. He has been phased out of the fluff apparently and has no reference on the internet.

Yeah I know. I need to be a DCM or something. I am glad it is that way. IT does encourage you to become a DCM. You know they should have a DCM day where everyone is one and they can see what they are missing. Of course there would probably need to be a major Clean Up Day the day after.

Nice! What does scythian refer to in the codex?
It was a piece of wargear. I don't remember what it does at the moment, but I do remember it sounded pretty cool.

One piece of wargear I do remember more distinctly is the "plasma siphon". As we all know, plasma weapons are the bane of heavily armoured troops with high points cost in 40K, so Grey Knights have a lot to fear from them. Plasma Siphon removes a lot of that fear factor by reducing the ballistic skill of those within a certain range of the user to "1", thereby reducing significantly the number of hits scored with said plasma weapons. Ouch.

Are there transfer sheets in the black box?
No, and in the dozens of times over the past few years I've seen Black Boxes on their arrival at GW stores, not once have I ever seen a transfer sheet included. Logical, since it's not really something most customers are that excited to have a preview of.

I refuse to support the RastaKnight until the word "Dutchie" replaces one of the other names on there.

How close do you have to be to use the Siphon, and does it work on Vehicles as well?
