I like to think of the Red Terror as a 'prototype', that is to say if the Hive Mind comes up against something unusual it makes a creature to defeat that obstacle. If that obstacle proves to be unique, the creature is never seen again. If it finds a general use for that creature, or finds that obstacle appearing in other places, then it refines it and makes a 'production version'. So Red Terror is the Mk.I Mawloc in a lot of ways.

It's a bit hard for me to tell, but the Terv/Tyrann appears to be on an oval MC base, correct?

I'm loving these releases. I might pick up a Tyrant to make into a Swarmlord (since my current 2 Tyrants are 2nd edition dudes). I won't be buying any new Terv/Tyrann kits soon, since I already converted what I need...and actualy my Tervigons already look pretty damn close to the actual kit...excellent! I just need to move the gun off my Tyrannofex's back and have it holding the gun now...I'm on it!

Even though I don't play SW, those wolf models looks really nice.

Which really makes you wonder. I mean, looking at the two I can't see how they wouldn't be a dual kit?

I know. the first thing I thought when I saw it was 'how did he not see this as a dual kit?'. I could imagine the confusion if the chimneys were different or something, but it's basically a head and belly swap, and different front arms.

Also, I realized I'm going to need at least 3 more boxes of Termagants.

Hey Cryage, did you take into account shipping?

Hell, I'd pay an extra $5 more just to be able to drive down to the local store and be able to pick one up and build it the same night.

And probably be able to get a ton of extra bits in the process.

And be more accurate in terms of scale, since the Tervigon is supposed to be larger than a Carnifex.

I'd be raising issues on this alone. The Tervigon model is almost as tall as a Trygon. The Chapterhouse kit makes a fat Carnifex - and if done properly, hunched forwards, and significantly shorter. There's going to be a lot of complaints now about modelling for advantage when using that conversion kit.

I doubt it. I think more people with Tervigons will have the actual Tervigon rather than the CH kit.

Honestly, for me I wouldn't have an issue as long as they rebase it, and even then it would only be an issue for me in a tourney. I really don't think it's game breaking enough to cause a fuss about it.

Forgeworld sells Warrior wings, all you need is those and a Warrior kit, then BAM! Shrikes.

Forgeworlds Warrior wings are really nice. I totally missed the news about finecast dual bonesword and bonesword/lash arms. I might have to order a set each, since I have 2 sets of Warrior wings. I'm hesitant to run them in squads bigger than 3 due to hiding bigger squads being difficult, so 3 each of dual bonesword and bonesword/lashwhip should give me some flexibility.

Remember Loki - you'll have to pay local prices for those. I'd consider alternative swords/whips made by other companies.

Local prices I'm guessing are going to be the #33 bracket, which is about what I paid for my warrior wings. I don't mind too much.

I have a weird self imposed rule for buying locally. I'll do it up to about $75. This covers usual impulse buys that I can get away with from the missus. Anything more than that, and I go overseas.

So the Tervigon and Carnifex kits I want, I'll be going to Dicebucket. Locally, that's what, $280? Dicebicket, with postage, it's about $150. The missus will be okay with it if I tell her I'm saving almost 50%.

I need Termagants, and I'll probably grab a box a week for a while. That's $40. That's an impulse buy.

Loki,

I have some still on the sprue if you need them. Ill probably let them go for much less then $40 and shipping shouldnt be bad at all.

PM if you want them. (I have about 130 assembled termies, doubt I need more).

Why bother? It is such a huge rip-off.

How many boxes are you going to get? 4? 6? Let's be conservative nad say 4. That's 4x$40 for 48 miniatures. $160. For +$15 and a bit of shipping you can get double that.

I do not see the sense in buying anything locally when you can get it overseas at nearly half the cost. For a Direct Only model, sure, especially now that GW inflates their shipping because they're a bunch of witches, but for anything you can get around the world and don't specifically need to get from a GW store, there is simply no point. You are pissing your money away.

How does it put the Transportofex rumours to bed? For all we know GW could release the Transportofex at a later date. I don't see how this invalidates that rumor at all.

The rumour said that the Tervigon would be a combined kit with the transport bug, and the t-fex would be separate.
That is true, but did all of the rumours suggest it was only going to be released as a Dual Kit with the Tervigon?

It was an amalgamation of rumours. IIRC, the WD editior let slip Tyranids would get a beasty that 'filled a gap they always had'. Stickmonkey said he'd seen the Tervigon and Tyrannofex and couldn't see how it would be a dual kit. Someone else said that a new beast with rules by Phil Kelly would be done. I think people just filled the gaps and the rumour started itself that it would be a dual Tervigon/something else. The idea of a transport came from the initial 'a gap the Tyranids never had'. With the Tyrannofex in the book covering long range anti tank, the only gap left they never had was some kind of ground transport.

That sounds about right from what I remember. I don't really see how anyone could say the Tyrannofex and Tervigon were two completely different kits. They look almost exactly the same and no one knows for a fact if its a transport. In fact I'd say the gap they've always had is no vehicles in general. I know its Nids and they aren't supposed to have that, but it is the most obvious gap.

The Red Terror had always been available in metal.

The Codex says it's either the size of a Ravener or a Mawloc. Regardless, it's essentially a Ravener. Old rules treated it like a Mawloc.

I keep overlooking this store. I was actually looking at 4 boxes (with my current box, that puts me at 60 Termagants, plenty for 20 Devilgaunts and the rest Tervigon spawn). And I noticed that place actually does have a x4 set of Termagants. So thanks for reminding me. I've got to bookmark these guys when I get home.

You seem to know about these guys - how long does it take them to get new releases up? I'd buy a x2 or x3 of the Tervigon kit from them. And do they stack postage? Say, if I got a x2 Carnifex kit and a x2 tervigon kit, do they stack the postage of both?

My main reason I buy locally is because I love my FLGS, and like supporting them. They get all my infinity money, and hobby supply money though.

Then let them happily keep your Infinity and hobby supplies money. I see no reason to give them or anyone local money for GW product, not until they restructure their pricing bands to be global.

In any case, I'm not sure about new releases with these guys. I've actually not used them myself, but a couple of the guys in my group have used them multiple times and swear by them. I can't imagine it will be too long.

Additionally, they can modify bundles for you, or make special ones. If you want a 6xGaunts bundle, they'll do it.

Yeah you're right, totally forgot about the shipping.

If I didn't have the CH kits, and it was between CH and GW, absolutely go GW. Since I do have 3x CH kits, I honestly cannot justify $210 CAD to buy 3 models that I already have perfectly good proxies. Anybody at the GW store give me flack, well they can pound sand since it took GW 2 years to get us these models, not to mention the kit is about 50% GW bits and 50% CH for the "bulk"

As for scaling, i'm sure it will be pretty similar. it's mounted on an oval base

Size comparison between Hormagant, Carnifex, CH Tervigon:

Looks pretty close in size to the GW one.

Like I said, CH provided oval bases for their tervi's , so no issues

edit: Also -Loki- ,I've purchased LOTS from that ebay seller and have had NOTHING but exceptional service and delivery times. Going across the ocean may take awhile, but its WELL worth the savings.

Do you know if they mix bundles? I've seen their army deals. If they could do 2 Tervigons, a Carnifex and 4 Termagant boxes, I'd drop the money on it in a heartbeat.
