Not where I should be

A thing of beauty. Sweet job dude. Love the blood, looks really cool.

The original story of Ghazkull, was that he had an Adamantium skull put in because he was shot in the head and many reckon that is why he was such an excellent leader, because they messed his brain up. Enhancing his Waaagh! power. He used to get a special save because of his head. Mind you Ghazkull was always a Goff too. Can't remember the last time I read up about Ghazkull, I am probably wrong now. His model always had a huge hat on so you never saw if he had a metal dome riveted on there or a nice neat skin job. I always fancied doing something like the dude in Judge Dread, you know the son from the Angel family, out in the wild who they crank up.

Anyways I think your Ghaz looks awesome, sweet job on the yellow, the blood looks like you injured yourself and very suitably Badmoon.

Wow, he looks brutal.
I love the weatehring and the blood splatters !

I think that you could have done better on his skin, though. But he still looks good.

Hmmmm, I'll have to think about the metal plate thing. I was pretty sure he wasn't a Bad Moon originally but I wanted to make him fit the army. The skin is part of the original paint job... though I did highlight it a bit, if rather crudely. I'll re-visit that too.

Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it!

Well Selv, this should be "the summer of the ork" and include the painting of several Forge World models... So this is just the warm-up!

Tamaya makes a range of these. They make fantastic headlights and such too. That sniper scout I just did has this same paint in a couple of different areas. Usually I shade underneath it and then add the translucent coat over the top.

OK guys, here's a touched up version of Ghazzy. I added the chrome dome and touched up his skin a bit. Don't expect too much there, I've never been worth a damn with skin. Next project... 3 RT era ork bikes to complete my "grot bike mob".

You have done a fantastic job there. Chrome dome is beautiful. Skin looks ok dude. Maybe a bit dark, but you don't see that much and I always remember with affection the old Black Orkz from fantasy, they was harder than anybody else, and their dark green skin was a sign of toughness. He looks brilliant.

Well, I wanted to make it look "adamantium-like" in comparison to the rest, so while it is shaded... it's not very heavily shaded. (and actually there's more dynamic painting than there appears to be, the lights of the photo booth tend to wash things out on metallics).

I started the grot bikes last night, I'll give you a pic in a bit here. Have three little bikes to add to the six I already have, which will give me a total of 9 grots and a (full sized) nob/runt herder in the squad.

Why thank you all. I just noticed that his teeth are kind of green... will have to go in and fix that too. Dang close-up photogrophy!

Well, I promised you some bike shots. Let me briefly explain my overall plan with this army. My idea is to build an army of semi-autonomous gretchin. They aren't rebels, though I love the WWII / Imperial Guard based grot lists. These are just the product of Boss Gitsplitta having run across some hard times and taking some major losses amongst his ork troops and the result of a string of particularly cheeky raids on Imperial installations. It was either fade away in ignominy as his orks defected to bosses with more powerful armies... or try and come up with some way to bolster his numbers. Since there were grots in abundance and those in charge of war machines had served well (for grots) in the raids, he decided to try and cultivate the breed for war. So, what he's got is a bunch of self-actualized grots... running around with all variety of war machines, under the watchful eye of ork masters.

So... what I'm shooting for is a nearly all grot army, using the ork dex, where everything is either actually gretchin, is proxied by gretchin, or looks like gretchin (aka some of the RT era stuff).

One of the easiest things to work on was the warbikes. The original RT era bikes are tiny when compared to the modern ork bikes, but they have a ton of character. Like so much of my ork army, these were rescue projects... cast-offs from someone else's army that I repainted a bit to make look presentable. I had 3 full-sized ork bikes painted in blue that I'd purchased used years ago, so I decided to paint the rest of the bikes blue to match. No particular reason beyond that, just a nice break from the yellow and green of my Bad Moons and Mantis Warriors. The neat thing is that the modern ork so large that it looks like a runt herd in comparison to the "grot" RT-era ork bikes... so the illusion works quite well.

So, in sprucing up this unit, I'm not only building and painting the last 3 of the RT bikes I own... but touching up the paint jobs on the existing bikes to make them a little nicer. These aren't painted to a high standard... but I would like them to be presentable. In the photo below, the two bikes flanking the nob have been touched up... the rest still need work.

I decided to add a little bit of action to the poses of the last three bikes. Gave them some rough ground and some more dynamic poses. The one guy is even flying out of his seat a bit. Should give a nice feel to the mob. If I could snag one more of these I'd have a proper grot mob!

very cool git. since i have switched to fantasy, when I do think of 40k, my freebooters dont enter my mind. all I can think of is a goblin/squig themed 40k army. I had thought of using grots riding squigs (with guns / armor strapped on) as nob bikers, but I have to say I really like where this is going.
