Hey all, as promised some fluff. Not as much as I´d like, my day got busier than expected....
Anyways, here´s the fluff for my void born De´Norio Kh´Na, and the gunslinger, Jayna Saar.
De´Norio Kh´Na. “The Void Hammer”
Early years:
Born on a bulk cargo freighter between Scintilla and Iocanthus, De´Norio was the fourth son of a grain merchant. He was raised on board the “Wistful Golean”, and joined the Imperial Navy when he was old enough.
His drill instructors soon found that he had a special aptitude for close assaults, frequently besting students that were older than him in the close tactical simulators. After finishing seventh in his class, he completed a tour of duty as an armsman of the Navy Frigate “Unknown Saviour” and sought employment in the merchant fleets shortly thereafter.
He worked on three ships after this, before finally coming back to the Wistful Golean, and became second in command of the ships security detail for three years.
Making the cut:
During a stopover on a backwater planet, the ship was caught in a Xenos raid on the planet. The old hauler was too slow to escape orbit, and was boarded by the vicious aliens, who slew most of the crew.
The remaining security officers were able to get the survivors to one of the ships launches, and blasted off in a last attempt to escape death, or a lifetime of slavery.
It was while they were dodging the nimble raider fighters, that a miracle befell them. A strike force composed of elements from three separate Astartes chapters emerged from the warp, and the aliens broke off the pursuit in order to escape this superior force. The Astartes had been gathered to clear out xenos raiders from the subsegment, and had shadowed them through the warp to the planet.
They were led by an Inquisitor called Vorghel Doth, who decreed that the survivors would be offered the opportunity to serve him in destroying their tormentors, an offer that was accepted by only three men. De´Norio was the first to say yes.
Since that day he has served the Inquisition, first as an aide to Inquisitor Doth. And after Interrogator Sigismund was elevated to full Inquisitor status, De´Norio has been at his side, ever ready to lead the charge against any foe, Xeno or other.
Equipment:
His Void Armor is still the same battered one that he wore aboard the Golean, repaired and repainted every time it was battle damaged.
The suit is embossed “WG 02” in memory of the ship that was his life for so many years.
He carries an Ironclaw Naval Shotgun, and uses a MkIII Laspistol as his sidearm. He always carries ample supplies of smoke and frag grenades.
Jayna Saar. “Bullet Rain”
Early years:
Born and raised on Forlong Defense Station, on an immense asteroid, Jayna spent her formative years in the sub levels fighting mock battles against other station youths. These battles were not her last however, as the Subsector was soon embroiled in a conflict against the savage orks of warlord Urug Skraga.
Making the cut:
The Forlong station was put into battle ready condition, and all able fighters were drilled into reserve units, in case the orks should breach the stations defenses. Jayna showed great promise in small arms practice. After months of tense waiting, the long range scanners suddenly lit up. The orks had arrived in the system.
They wasted no time, and moved towards the planet, the defenders giving ground until the battle was raging outside the station.
The missile batteries and laser siloes fired over and over, and the Ork fleet was desintegrating.
But the orks were not done yet. While the battle in the void had beenraging, they had sent all their transportas towards the station, in the hope of capturing and turning the guns on the imperial fleet.
The kommandos went through the hangar doors and combat raged across the hangar decks for hours.
In the end, the orks broke through and rampaged through the station, killing and destroying as they went. After two days of fighting, the navy was able to reinforce the battered defenders, sending in their armsmen and clearing teams.
They found almost no survivors. Gas leaks had contaminated large parts of the station, causing delirium and in most cases death. One survivor shot five armsmen before being taken down.
Jayna had been driven over the edge by gas exposure, and in the intense and bloody fighting, had been unable to tell friend from foe. She was placed in a holding cell, awaiting execution along with several other survivors.
The situation attracted the attention of the ordo Xenos however. Sigismund and his band arrived on the scene only nine weeks after the battle was over. They conducted extensive examinations of the survivors, and found that the defenders had been wrongly sentenced to death.
Instead, they were transferred to the Inquisitors freighter, to become part of his crew for a time of no less than eight years.
Not all of the survivors took too well to this new life, but for Jayna the change was exciting. She was offered a place as a second string warrior for the inquisitor, and her skills with pistols soon had her rising into first string, and in time she became one of his favored agents, handy in a firefight, deadly in enclosed spaces.
Equipment:
Jayna uses twin Autopistols in combat, she has trained extensively and is able to wield them with deadly accuracy.
She carries a stubgun as a backup weapon, and wears a green bodyglove with padding, so she can easily dodge and roll in combat.
In close combat she is less confident, but even so, she carries a stiletto which she prefers if she gets the chance to surprise an enemy.

Update, December 16th.
Okies, today I got the markings and scratches on the Void Born, De´Norio as he´s called.
I also did some tests for pistol size weapons for my inquisitor, a hand flamer and a heavy pistol, possibly a Shot Pistol or some such. And I even got started on the second void suit. I´ll need to do something about the legs on that guy, and it´s VERY early days for him all in all, but you can get the idea. His suit is square and boxy, going to do some more GS´ing before I decide if I like it or not.
As far as the fluff, do people like it? Hate it? Or just feel that it´s alright?

love the void born concept, and the hand flamer in particular. No need to make it an inferno pistol, hand flamers already exist in the rules!

Thanks man, glad to hear that the concept works.
The hand flamer is my favorite too, and will probably become the sidearm for my inquisitor.
I actually don´t even have the inferno pistol rules here, it´s a short range melta iirc?
The second guy will hopefully get an enclosed helmet, but I first have to be happy with the suit itself, and I´m not there yet.
Will do more work today, then we´ll see.

I really like the new suit and the weapons. The letters and numbers on the old suit didn't really work out that well, unless they are WIP's. You might want to use those water transfer sticker like things from some WWII models or something instead.

Yeah, they´re wip, looking to get some black on the outsides.
At first I thought they might work just with the red, but after seeing them large scale on the computer, they just look a bit too "daubed on with blood" like, which is not the look I want here.
Thanks for the feedback, it´s good to hear what doesn´t work for you, helps me see what can be better.
Edit: I would look at transfers, but seeing as I´m in the Faroe Islands at the moment, hobby supplies are limited to say the least. There is a total of one (1!) store that even sells 40K stuff here, and when I had a look yesterday, they had no Tactical marine boxes.... But the weather is beautiful, and the air is clean, so that´s good I suppose..

I really like your space suit theme you've got going here. Damn, I'm itching to build one of my own already!
The hand flamer looks good. Again, great use of Kroot bits. I especially like that Kroot grenade as the flamer fuel container. I never thought of using that bit...
I too thought that the numbers/letters in the suit are a bit crude. Let's hope the blacklining will fix that. Too bad you can't access any waterslide transfers. They are a great help making the figures to look a bit more "professional".

Hey, thanks. Go for it man, and be sure to post the results!
I was just looking at bits, considering making my own even, when the grenade revealed itself.
I´ve blacklined the letters, it´s a bit better but still looks rough when you get close.
Seeing as the pictures in here are at least 3 x life size, I don´t think it will pose a problem in gaming terms, but I´d like to make them better.
I´ll get pics up in a bit.

Update, December 17th
As promised, Pics!
I´ve finished basing the Mech girl.
The Void Born is getting better, not sure but I may have to clean him up even further before he gets the last few washes.
And I´ve included pictures of the second void born, mocked up with arms and backpack.
I also lined up the four gangers that are now finished, and took a pic of them. Sort of a status check.
C&C welcomed, as always.

Hey all, thanks for the comments.
@Defcon: Yeah, I´m still working on the second guy, will have to see what can be done.
@Malika2: The helmet shall return. However the head has gone missing in the pile of sprues and stuff that is my workspace...
No fear though, the clearing teams are going through the piles and have told me that they are confident in a succesful rescue.
The hand flamer is quite big, but in the Necromunda rules, a hand flamer is a one shot flamer, so I figure what the heck. Also gives me a chance to do some fancy painting on there.

Personally, I would switch the hand flamer to the right hand, and the sword to the left, but either will work. The numbers on the first guy look much better now. You may want to look at pictures of Soviet/Russian/Chinese/American space suits, and see how they are labled and marked. I have the feeling that a few hazard markings and the like would go a long way to make it seem more "real".
Also, hand flamers used to have different rules and their own template, you may want to investigate that instead of a single shot regular flamer.

Ooh, hazard stripes and that kind of stuff! Completely forgot about those. <Hits self>
I will definately look into adding those, thanks a bunch!
As for the hand flamer deal, in the original necromunda rulebook, which I still have lying about the place, it indeed had it´s own template.
But in the newer online versions, they´ve changed it to the flamer template and made it single shot. I suspect this is in order to get fewer templates.
We have decided to go with the newest version of the online rulebook for the purpose of this campaign, thusly we end up with the one-shot flamer deal.
Nice observation though, not too many people know the rules that far back. Most of my guys here were pretty surprised when I started going on about hand flamer templates.

I think the blacklining did the trick on the numbers/letters. They look better now. And, as you said, the figures are smaller in real life so the letters/numbers do not stick out so much as they do in these pics.
Hazard stripes and other markings are a good idea too to bring more colour to the suits.
Oooo, I just love the painting on that base in the picture. Looks really nice!
Sidenote: Inspired by your spacesuits, I started working on a 3 Iron Bears with heavier breaching suits on. They are the first ones through a blown door, so they wear heavy suits to protect them. I'll post pics on my own thread when I finish them. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Looking forward to those breaching suits Hammer, will be cool to see what you do with this.
Yeah, the hazard stripes should do good things to the suits. The second one will probably get the same white for the armored bits, but get a different colored undersuit.
Thanks for the kind words mccartney.

Okay, I´ve got an interesting question.. Is there still an IP on th buildings from the old necromunda and underhive buildings?
I´ve scanned mine today, planning to experiment with making them in plasticard and painting them up nicely.
Then I got to thinking, that maybe others who didn´t have the opportunity to buy the buildings originally, might want a copy, in Jpeg format.
But I don´t want to post anything that´s against the rules. So what´s the deal? Anyone?

I think the IP sticks for all material created by GW. In other words, you can't copy GW models, not even the classic ones.
You are talking about those plastic building components from Necromunda right?
What you could do is make one in plastic card and then make copies.
What exactly do you mean with scanning?

There used to be cardboard inserts that you'd put into the plastic frame bulkheads to make walls. I think Xan's asking that if it's not protected by IP, he'd like to find some color scans of those cardboard pieces for his own use.

You´re half right Death by Monkeys. I am talking about the cardboard ones from the old necromunda boxed set.
However, I don´t need a copy, I already have the originals. And those cardboard originals are what I scanned today, on an A3 color scanner.
The point is, that I´ll definately be making a set in plasticard, to use with my bulkheads. However, if it can help anyone get inspired, I´d want to upload my A3 copies to Dakka.
So, according to Malika2, the answer is that it would be illegal.
Ah well, then I won´t do it.
I could of course take measurements, and tell people those, right? Or no?
