This model:
Mithril silver
Thraka green
Gryphonne Sepia
Rehighlight mithril silver
Thraka green
Gryphonne sepia
Chains and blade are badab black and then dabs of devlan mud.
Wooden handle is devlan mud.
Blood red eye
Bleached bone and white for teeth and toenails

First 3 layers took 1 and a half hours (thanks to slow drying timnes) at my local GW where I was this morning.
The last 7 steps and base took 15 minutes as my model was drying in 30 degree sun on my verandah this afternoon.

That plaguebearer looks good and wet. Interesting experiment, using blow drier could have also helped with the drying times.

Have to try something like this in my next project, thanks for the inspiration.

I think the color of the Plaguebearer is good, however it seems to have a metalic sheen to it. If anything, it ought to be a bit slimy. Maybe a coat of Krylon will help?

I am eager to see this tried out on flesh, to see if it gives the "glow" some claim it will.

He painted it in metallics and washed over that...

The metallic sheen is intentional, I was trying to go for this look.

Daemons are the only army that it would work for, given that they can appear pretty much as anything.
Its already krylon coated.

Yes, I know how it was done, I was just commenting on the metalic sheen, which is not (usualy) the desired result. As gonads DID want to do it, then my point was moot.

I agree BTW that daemons are the only army that the sheen would work with. Although come to think of it the Avatar would be awesome with a more metalic undertone...

I think this would work just fine with almost every army with lots of armor plates (WoC comes to mind).

The metallic sheen would look great under the greenish brown for nurgle warriors as would reddish brown for khorne.

I think I'll have to try this out with my WoC army in near future.

A how to on the technique...

The following pics were taken approximately 10-15 minutes apart after drying (it was 32 celcius yesterday and the models were drying quick) and I was studying so I'd read for 10, then paint for 5 and read again whilst the models dried.

Starting out:
Mithril Silver

Thraka green splashed on.

Gryphonne sepia splashed on.

Rehighlight mithrl silver

Another layer thraka green.

Bandages and weapons mithril silvered, and gryphonne sepia all over again.
Rock codex grey and dirt scorched brown and drybrush bleached bone.

Base devlan mud.
Weapon blade badab black
Wood handle devlan mud.

Baal red to tongues and bandages, and ends of tubes.
Devlan mud to wood and blades.
Rock codex grey and fortress grey.
Dirt drybrushed bleached bone.
Eyes red and teeth and nails bleached bone.

More baal red to tongues, and dabbbed to chips on blades
Spots of devlan mud to blades.
Skull white to teeth and nails.
Varnished
Silfor flock.

The unit so far:

I bought a box of bloodletters yesterday so I'll be giving the colour red a go over the next week.

Thanks for showing the technique. Certainly is an interesting addition to the usual "prime, base, highlight, ink, rehighlight" that we usualy see.

So I started on a bloodletter yesterday and finished him this evening.

Again all washes over mithril silver.

Badab black whole model.
Baal red.
Rehighlight mithril silver.
Baal red x2
Mithril silver over other areas- thraka green and highlight and 2 thraka green to spiky things.
Badab black mithril silver and x2 badab black to hilt and claws.
x2 Gryphonne sepia to sword, edge mithril and x1 gryphonne sepia.
I also did several layers of black over the horns to break them up a bit from the rest of the model...

The green is for unit differentiation, it will have a different coloured wash each unit.

The sword really stands out.
