I'm always amazed at the turn-around time for your painting.

Been a few days since last update but I've been photographing every hour...

Hour 7 done.



1st 2 layers of gold on the backpack and more work on the NGs.

Hour 8.

Gryphonne sepis on the backpack
Goblin green highlights now on the NGs.
Started the bleached bone.

Hour 9.

Why so little was done the past houre.

Assembled some storm boyz.

Also this hour finished the metal on the backpack and the cloth.
Edged the NG robes and devlan mud

Hour 10.

Now that the stormboyz have been put aside.

All the flesh and all the red done.

Red bows? Very 1993.

The ones on the end look great, and I'm liking the ''four to a base'' move.

Still alot to go (need rehighlighting on the end ones.
Also the 4 bases look good and are easy for game play but they do slow painting time as you try to get into the middle. The long thin regiment bases are better for painting.

Hour 11.

All the bleached bone done.
Also note that the hour before I had changed the banner top icon to a BA one (from a High Elf Sprue)

Hour 12

Devlan mudded another one, and finished the highlights on the faces of the first unit done.
Also did the highlights on the base.

Hour 13.

Did a heap of work on the banner. Used the same cloth technique as per the SM commander but didn't come up as well.

ALso did the faces on the second finished base of NGs.

The banner is really, really slowing this down. :(

That banner is Beautiful. I like the Greenskins too, but that's really something.

Back from picking up our new SUV so will finish the update.

The baneer took probably 2 hours of solid painting, no problems spending that amount of time on it as they will only be on the company commanders.

Hour 14.

Finally finished most of the banner (starting to drive me nuts), just the top piece to go.

Hour 15.

Finally free of the banner (likely 3 hours spent in total on it including assembling to the model) motored ahead on the NGs.

Highlighted the robes and devlan mudded the last 2 bases.
Did the the base on the previously devlan muded base.

Where the banner went to:

Lazarus, Captain of the 4th Company and Lord of Angelic Hosts.

Just need to spray varnish and add flock. Too humid to do it today.



Happy with: Pretty much everything (Could try to fix the face a bit but its good enough).
The BA symbol on the banner is a transfer that I then painted over to remove the shine.
Also on the white circle covered up most of the grey I was using for depth as it was way too grey, much happier with it now.
The bnner is ringed with green for the 4th company and Fourth is written on the banner.

Only problem was that to get the banner and backpack to fit I had to rip off the already glued arm, cut off the 'ball' for the backpack on the back of the main model and then reglue everything.

Rather conveniently the captain models are covered in styelised wings (and no ultramarine iconography)

hunderhammer is glued to the back banner for extra strength for both pieces.
Happy with all the scrollwork, out came the 20-0 brush for that.

The banner looks crooked because the cloth flows in a different direction to the rest of the model and the model is not set perfectly upright due to the base.

The BA symbol on top, I'm so glad I did it, I think I'll do it for all my captains.


And that is where I got to last night.

Will do some more assembly this weekend, of spear NGs. I'm going away and space to paint will be full of drama but scraping off mould lines and tearing up cork shouldn't be a problem.

Love the paint job but i think the hammer is too clean, maybe some blood or something would be good, but i love it any way keep posting

not at all in my opinion. theres no battle damage at all, so adding some wear and tear only to the hammer would lok awkward in my opinion. really like what you have done with him tho. looking great.

I struggle with power weapons and just went with the white they used on the 'eavy metal painted one (box pic).

Been away the last 3 days so have been assembling models rather than painting, will get more done tomorrow.

How do you plan to deal with the "the whole unit has to be together" issue with the Masters of the Chapter.

Dante has a Jump Pack and will be slowed down by that model.

Otherwise, looks great!

Not necessarily for apocalypse games.

Will need some weapon options for my characters.

I'd be using the SM company over the masters of the chapter datafexes anyway.

Wow looks great although something about red and green reminds me of christmas!

I really want one of those new battlewagons sooo badly. i envy you. BTW i love the painting its really good.

Niiiiiiiiice NG man, the highlights are especially good after the black wash, the captains cape is beautiful too

That dragon is so made of awesome and I look forward to you getting back to paining him. The Masters are looking fantastic and will make a great command focus.

Hour 16.



At this stage the 3 completed bases are sprayed with varnish.

RANT!

After the debacle of GW's purity seal a few years ago where everything would mist up I have used several varnishes, wattyl estapol matt varnish which leaves a yellowish tinge, and testors which is way too matte and deadens metalics..

A friend who runs a game store and does commission painting said he uses a varnish called Krylon which is made in the USA.
Cheaper than GW spray varnish this stuff is amazing.
Matte but leaves the metals shiny.

Buy it, it works (as you will see from my commander).

Just the 2 bases, and the flock to go.
If the humidity ever drops so I can safely varnish again should easily get it all done in the hour.

Next up is the flocking material I was going on about earlier in the blog.

As the pic says its called Mininatur.
The flock comes stuck to the plastic sheet, extensive range of colours and lengths.



Out of the box, showing the long grass on its plastic mount:


I borrowed my wife's tweezers and just pull the clump I want off the plastic, dab a small amt of superglue to the underside (there is a layer of plastic or dried glue at the base of the clump) and stick it where I want it.
No mess, no waste.

Far and away the best product I've found this year.

I bought mine at Irrisistable Force, a FLGS (unfortunately a good 40 minute drive away on the other side of the city) that also does internet ordering (and its where I got my Krylon from)

Final pics of the finished 4th company captain.

I painted in the eyes (noticed they were missig in the last lot of pics).
Varnished, and as you can see the metal still gleams.
Added the mininatur flock. The different lengths and the way it acctually stands how you would expect grass to stand rather than a heap like the usual flock make it all worthwhile.
