Started work on the princesses armor yesterday, so I'll be posting that later but first: my last three pleasureseekers.

and...

also...

Since, I have a few extra cast of crouching daemonettes mounted one on the base of my Glutton Champion. It also occurred to me last night that since the gluttons are on a 40 mm base and freaking huge; I could use them as "counts as" Bloodcrushers! 12 bloodcrushers in a single unit would definitely draw fire off my girls, far more that some plague bearers....hmmm...

Anyway I like the idea of having a few tiny by comparison daemonettes on the Glutton bases. Maybe one riding on a gluttons shoulders and pointing at the enemy, or chicken fighting.

So I'm into the home stretch on the Daemon Princess models, and well into sculpting armor and detailing the figures. Before I show picture of that work I wanted to show some work I've done on them to get them ready for possible production.

Before casting these for sale I wanted to get them super clean, and get them ready for new production molds. The first thing to do then was to design a easy way to assemble the models together without the need to pin anything. Just some super-glue or 5-minute epoxy and your done. I ended up using square brass tubes cut and fit to act as plugs/and sockets. These are strong and have the added bonus of not allowing the parts to rotate out of position, like round pins do. Once the parts are cast the actual plugs and sockets will be resin, of course but the effect is the same.

So I started out by carefully boring out the parts, starting with smaller drill bits and working up to the appropriate sized hole. I also drew guidelines on the model to ensure that everything lined up after the tubes and putty had set.

Here is the socket set into the hips.

And here is the tube system in place.

Here the sockets in action. this should make casting easier since the pose is so much more dynamic that the original sculpt. I'll be adding either a belt of a sash to mask the join when assembled. You could also just saw off the plug and install magnets instead.

I also created a similar plug/socket system for the arms and wings:

Okay so here's where I am on the running princesses' armor/clothing...

I went with the studded stockings that the old metal school daemonettes used to wear; the arm length glove on the opposite side will have similar studs and flesh hooks. I used Aves to sculpt the clothing and straps and brown stuff putty for the studs. Rolling the Aves out flat with some talc was a new technique for me, as I'd didn't expect it to stick very well to the model afterward. But a light brushing of alcohol and it stuck on just fine. In fact the talc-ed putty was far more controllable that the brown stuff was.

I just need for go back and add some additional rolls of putty to make the wrinkles, around the joints and stress points.
she needs some additional studs as well.

Here's the crouching princesses' armor/clothing...

Lower body armor first:

I decided to go with pleated armor on the legds, shins and hips. She'll also have armored shoulder pads. I used brown stuff putty for this to try it out. I can see that I won't be using it much in the future as Aves can do anything it can; drying harder and smoothing easiers
I started on the upper body armor with Aves instead.

I also added some copper ringlets and chains to decorate the claws.

On paint I ordered some new fine tips for my airbrush, so when the time comes: priming, base coating, and perhaps even some shading should go quickly. In any casae I'm sure you'll all tell me if I'm screwing them up.

Looking fantastic sersi, the only crit I will make is that I see piercings as a much understated use of slaaneshi demons, as well as tatoos, instead of armoring one demon princess' torso maybe you could like tatoo a shoulder, and add subtle piercings to the face... just some thoughts!!

Their WILL definitely be more piercings, and tatoos are a lock. One question though should they have belly buttons?

Still working on the armor & clothing such as it is

Princess #1

Close ups on princess #2. It the top of her arm length glove, the copper ring and pierced flesh still needs to be added as well as the Brown stuff studs.

So whats next for Princess #1.

Well, I'll be leaving the shoulders abdomen and back clear for tattoos and carved in Slaaneshi characters. I also will be redoing the loincloth as its to short and to wide for my tastes. I'm also considering adding some piercing and chains to the wings.

Princess #2

Some closeups of the armor bits on princess #2.

Still a bit rough as they are being built up slowly and sanded carved into shape.

What's next for Princess #2:

Her leg and shoulder armor will attached to her skin with chains and piercings. Fixing some issues with the anatomy of the shoulders and right upper arm. I also want to make the clavicles and Sterno-mastoid muscle more. prominent. Basically tighten up the anatomy. The holes you see in the crab claw will have copper rings piercing them as well as chains with dangling human skulls. I'm also considering adding some stomach armor and second set of breasts.

Comments and crits would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful work! Love the poses, love the legs, love the wings... Did I mention I love the legs?

You've managed to make the whole of this army look detailed without looking too busy. Keep that asthetic! As long as you choose a harmonious color scheme, this army cannot fail but be incredible to look at.

Arkion:

Thank you for your comments. Your correct aesthetics and theme were why I wanted to do this army. If nothing else it will be unique.

Okay more armor updates. Were getting close now...

Princess # 1

Added straps to hold the leg armor to her pierced flesh, and clipped straight pin heads to serve as rivets.

I'm not sure about the rivets as they maybe to large. I also still need to add the straps to the left leg. Comments please?

Here's a close up of the shoulder armor, it still need some more sanding and shaping to round it out. I'm thinking about adding two addition segments to make the armor look more flexible. I also added some copper rings piercing to the claw arm they still need to be fixed in place with super glue.

The shoulder armor is loosely based off this design.

I also added a ankle bracelet and snapped chain.

Here's a close up of the back area:

The should armor is also held of with piercings.

Here the how the piercing for the legs and torso look together.

And finally the front of the torso. Here I added a second pair of breasts. The will be a pleated breast plate covering the abdomen and pushing up on the breasts. Basically the concept is this daemonette model scaled up.

Here's the front of the torso so far. The circular plate covering the join in the straps of the shoulder harness will bear a Slaanesh symbol.

and finally a couple of beauty shots:

Okay more armor updates. Were getting close now...

Princess # 2

Allot less work was required to get this girl looking good. Started on the studs for the arm. I still need to workout how the materials attaches at the clawed end. I'll probably use a some kind of rivet, rather than a ring through flesh style piercing. I also adding some additional copper rings to the left claw.

I cleaned up the edges of the arm and leg bracelets seen here:

And here: Also note the belly button piercing. I may change the belly to a finer wire ring.

Princess #3

She's needing the most work but I plan to get her done today. I've again changed the pose base on feedback given here. She in now in a landing pose with one hand flat on the ground supporting. I haven't decided whether or not to bring back the second set of arms yet, and currently she has to humanoid hands rather than claws. the right hand will probably be clutching a sword with a curved blade.

I have no idea how i want to armor this one so suggestions would be appreciated

More later....I'm casting 26 seeker mounts today!

OK, to answer your first question, I think the leg armor on P1 looks great and distinctive compared to the others, the final straps with a ring attached to the flesh is an a great theme for that specific model, you just need to add the flesh to ring portion which of course you know. Otherwise, a brazier type deal, scaling up that demonette will look great, yet another great concept to work from.

P2 is definetly my fav, I just love how the stockings with the sectioning reminds me of harlequins and directly corrolates to the eldar, which is PERFECT for a Slaaneshi army. Too often you see slaanesh models with absolutely nothing relating them to their origins, here you are capturing it nicely.

On P3, cant say how I feel yet, Im thinking maybe long flowing back and front loincloth, you know angled up with the theme of her having just hit the ground, and I thikn maybe then this would be your best oppportunity to really have one just tattooed. Other than that keep it up, I know everyone whos following this is beggin for paint..

Truly fantastic pieces. It might just be my broken head, but every time I see your running Princesses I think of bowling... Maybe the last one needs a bowling team shirt?

On a more serious note, I think your segmented armour is the wrong way up. On humans, at least, articulated armour like you've got on the ladies' legs will tend to overlap downward like roof tiles. This is on the assumption that most blows would be coming from above (especially on the legs). A blow coming from above on your stuff would catch on the plates, rather than being deflected away. I guess they are somewhat larger than normal people, but I'm not sure of the parallell doesn't still apply.

Anyway, just being pedantic, so feel free to ignore and continue being awesome

I would imagine something like this for the leg armor would work quite well on princess number 3:

Keeper of Secrets:

I finished sculpting the hand and whip on the keeper of secrets. I need to re-sculpt the nipples on the breasts as the scale is wrong. I also need to add some more studs to the back of her leg and on her newly sculpted hand & arm.

Thanks Wolf!

I got a few more mods to show off:

Daemon Princess #1

A few detail shots:

Here's the back of the torso armor. It's intended to be some kind of leather, so it will be getting some texturing work

Here you can see the front of the shoulder armors rigging. I still need to add a few buckles and add a Slaanesh symbol to the disc. I'll probably glue a thin piece of styrene tubing to a raise edge to the disc.

Here's a better shot of the shoulder armor. I'll be drilling small holes into the individual plates, and then filling them with small balls of harden putty to make recessed rivets.

In this picture and the next you can see the side of the torso armor. I've drilled small holes along the split between the front and back plates with a pin vise. Later on I'll added the putty laces that hold the armor in place. I may even add a bow!

Her you can see the broken chains, made out of model ship anchor chain, copper wire, and Aves. In a way it mirrors the detail work on the FW KOS.

This arm guard is pretty much done other that scribing in some details, to make it look ornate.

Daemon Princess #2

She is a hair away from being done... She's awaiting her new head and hair, but other than that she just needs a few more brown stuff studs and some scribing work on her are and leg bracelets, and I'll call the sculpting on this one done.

I re-sculpted the nipples larger as it was pointed out the they were out of scale. Hopefully I didn't over compensate to much?

Details on the Loin cloth:

I abandoned doing the loincloth in GS, it was to flexible and didn't hold its shape good enough. Here's the new start of the loincloth in blessed Aves, rolled out with talcum powder.

I then built up the wrinkles and folds with rolls of Aves.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Daemon Princess #3

The idea hear is that she is wearing a leather-like ensemble made of Eldar skins: Including leggings, gloves, bikini bottom and some er... leather strappy things. Anyway I need to add some additional copper rings and straps. She still needs a head of course, and a bit of light sanding.

- I like the sword, but I'm not sure about its length. So, opinions please.

- I plan to extend the leggings at their tops and add some laces crossing the butt.

- I plan on leaving a good amount of flesh exposed for tattoos and such.

- I'll also decorate here with captured spirit stones.

In this shot you can see the mounting holes for her wings. I just need to boil some water, and bend the wings so that they spread out along the ground. I may just sculpt a new set however.

Details shots on DP #3:

A few early shots of the new arm and hand being sculpted.

I know what your thinking where's are the freaking heads, and where's the paint. What a slacker!

The truth is that although I've sculpted and computer modeled many heads in the past, I've never done so at this scale. So I kept putting it off and putting it off. But today will be different! I've decided to sculpt some ten practice heads, before shooting for the finished heads. So, here are some shots of this mornings failed attempt.

A basic skull structure has been built up over a ball of Aves putty.

I used a drill to hollow out the eyes sockets. This was mistake because they were neither deep enough or large enough. So, even at his stage things are already off from good proportions. Always use reference kids, it really helps. I'll use my digital calipers on the next one.

Here, I've glued hardened balls of Ave's putty in place to serve as eyes.

Quite a bit of sculpting has gone on to get to hear. Since this is practice I'll leave it as is. But examining this effort there are some serious problems with the heads basic structure. For example the eye sockets were not large enough or deep enough. So the eyes are out of place and it throws the whole thing off.

The horns are also far to small and need to sweep back and over the head.

This is a perfect example of sculpting what you think you know rather what you see. So I'll be digging out my resin skull to study and reference while working on the other practice heads.

More Later!

Horrors?!!

Okay this is going to need some explaining. I've been trying to come up with a slanneshi replacement model for horrors. At first I was going to use daemonette heads and torsos with sculpted snake bodies. but I already have lots of nettes' and converted nettes. So what to do? How about a winged flaming snake with a seeker mount head.

Here it is to scale with my custom sculpted raptor-thing /seeker mount TM.

Note that is won't look this stiff when done. Since resin becomes pliable with heat. I'll be able to repose them with a simple dunk in hot water. Meanwhile it easier to sculpt and cast it straight.

Just imagine sculpted flames running along it back and a ridiculously over the top coiled pose...with wings! So what do you all think? Too out there? Too stupid? I'm casting to day so you should see results tomorrow.

Okay, I got some free time today and will be working on bases. But I've got a couple of questions about basing:

1. what size base is a daemon prince on? The ones I'm using currently 90mm, which I assume is a little big.
2. I've seen people use CD's as bases for Greater Daemons, it it legal?
3. What base size are Flamers on?
4. What base size are Blood Crushers and they round bases? I currently have my Gluttons on 40 mm bases.
5. What base size are Fiends on?
6. I'm scratch-building my soul grinders, what' the approximate footprint for a Grinder? I'm guessing 4"X6".

yeah,
I've been following your blog, it's awesome.

1. regular CSM DP is on 40mm, but the nurgle CSM DP is based on 60mm ( I believe )
2. Not really. GD are 60mm based
3. 25mm
4. 60mm
5. square calvalry? but i think you could put them on bikebases to keep the round theme.
6. Grinders can be anything really, with feet pointing straight down it's a tall model but it can fit on a 60mm base.... (this is how people with bendy non glued GS DeepStrike them in! then the stretch legs out to reach combats!) for a scratch build I'd recommend the large oval base for dragons, or if the model is going to be tall like a knight defiler then 60mm seems fair.

The thing to Keep in mind is that with your army being all DS base size is very important, putting bloodcrushers on 40mm bases will most likely raise a few 'modeling for advantage / cheating' eyebrows. Just Ask the Wreaking Crew!

In sculpting and art in general its important to no what your doing. Not necessarily the specific techniques you will use although that can be also be very important. But more specifically what are you trying to make? And do you really know what IT looks like. I'm a character modeler in the gaming industry by trade and we almost always have detailed control art before we even start a new model. When people ask my why something is of I always ask where is your reference? So as you might guess I've made tons of detailed studies and rough sketches for the sculpts for this project before I ever got started. I've shown a few before, but here are some of my drawings from the sketchbook dedicated to this project.

My scanners busted so I just used my cameras to take the pics... Apologies for the image quality.

This one is where I'm going with the crouching princes. Swept back horns and tattoos...classy!

Just trying out some ideas.

Same.

Take note of the eldar-ish head the running princess with be either a corrupted Banshee or Harlequin

A leg study for a Count as Soulgrinder.

Another Soulgrinder concept.

A couple of things on this page: the head with the downswept horns will be going on the crouching princess with the spear. I really need to name theses things. The costume and sextuplets breasts are going on the princess #3...er the kneeling princess with the sword.

Detailing on Princess #1

More detailing on Princess #1

Still more detailing on Princess #1

Details for Princess # 2...er...the running one. Basically eldar-ish symbols to scratch into her arm and leg bands. And Eldar keepsakes, like Farseer spirit stones, etc.

Heads are coming along nicely as is the casting on the wyrms and seeker mounts...

I promised some head progress shots. This is all I have uploaded at the moment, I take some current pic to show later today. The first thing to point out is that these heads are far smaller that the one I posted before. That thing was enormous! These are the correct scale, making the princesses 7 heads tall.

Definitely awesome. The proportions and sense of movement and flow are just excellent.

If I had one complaint, and I feel really silly suggesting this, is that they are not quite androgenous enough. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some daemon women (dated enough at least). I just think that perhaps a bit more of a androgenous bent would make it a little more creepy and daemonic and a little less pin up (a part of me died when I typed "less pin up.")
Just a thought, and I certainly would love it just as much if you completely ignored my suggestion
