A suggestion for dimming the brightness on the models, try using a wash to get a grittier look for the metal armor and cape. I know delvin mud is very popular, and babal black is another good one. Also nice job on the sergeant.

That's pretty good Binky. I quite like the colours you've used. Your technique seems to have gotten better again. My only beef is the mold lines you can see. Clear them up and its all gravy...and base them.

I'll leave the drilling the barrels bit because the Plasma Pistol looks like it has been.

What have you got next to paint, your skulltaker?

I'll try it out

And I'm not sure how to do the basing I want. Any suggestions on doing rock formations and how I could achieve the look of obsidian? Pics are always appreciated!

Binky,

Link for suggestions for painting obsidian.

http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2497

Also, try the lizardmen article archive. I think there may still be an article about painting lizardmen the includes obsidian.

Just in case you go looking for "babal" black its correct name is Badab black.

Ive been admiring this army for a while and would like to congratulate you on its quality for a relative beginner its very good indeed

The link helped, now I got a more concrete idea. Can't wait 'til Saturday to try it out...

was thinking of sculpting rock with greenstuff, painting it with some black nail polish over a black basecoat. Then brushing black sand over the remainder of the base. Hope it works!

Also keep up the comments

I'm still really loving your Chaos Marines, binky! Can't wait to see how your basing turns out - if it works well for you, I may blatantly rip it off for my Imperial Guard.

I'm not found of the color combo but it's painted nicely (and this is always a BIG plus).

And you just have to base or I won't consider them as true followers of slaanesh (please no backyard grass base as it looks horrible even on blood bowl minis)

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

They nice and clean. For a slight improvement and highlights.
Pink- Mix 2 parts white and one part pink, put on the edges
Same with blue.

For your bases you would need to use a color that makes the Blue, Pink and black stand out. Try a dark green base.

There won't be any backyard grass, lol.

But are there any suggestions for my CSM bases - I wanted to do them differently and more like Earth instead of just rock. Never done basing before so tips are appreciated

By earth do you mean soil or a dried mud type thing?

If you want soil try some of gale force nine's basing materials, im pretty sure there is one that looks like soil, or you could use actual soil from your garden and just slather it in PvA/elmers/wood glue (coat base in straight glue, soil then when dry coat in a 1:1 glue water mix to seal).

If you want sandy earth then simply switch the soil for either very fine sand or a sand/soil mix .

Cracked dried mud i cant help you with other than suggesting using brownstuff if possible but otherwise plain old GS and looking around for some tutorials on scultping cracked mud.

Or alternately you could try standard mud basing which thanks to google i found a tutorial for,

For cracked mud you can just use craquelure to create the split ground look, and then overpaint.

I meant everything, cracked mud, soil, sand, water, grass -and then vary it from there - earth is filled with possibilities. But I've been warned not to be too ambiguous on the theme and keep it uniform. Any good pics for bases?

Hello, um as you can see I'm on a bit of a hiatus again. Been working on basing - my skulltaker, little bits here and there but nothing worth noting. Sadly no pics either. I'm in desperate need of some inspiration/motivation.
Help!

I also blame the kitty for distracting me. Too cute.

When you get some school work done, instead of watching tv or using the computer, paint some stuff. It worked for me a couple of times, when I was in school.

Here's some pics of what I've been working on lately.

As you can see, my Skulltaker is in progress but this is the color scheme thus far - I plan to wash it in Badab black to make it less bright.

Many peeps have mentioned I need to base my miniatures, so this is what the completed bloodletter base looks like - sorry for the yellow tone of the pic, I couldn't fix it.

There's the one I'd been waiting for!

I had never seen a Skulltaker until you mentioned them; if your Bloodletters are any indication I think I'll love your Skulltaker. Much different from the 'standard' Khornate daemons, at least in my neck of the woods. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Nice base and the skulltaker does look a lot like a spawn character.

Hello, I AM BACK. And sadly in my absence have built up a frighteningly major backlog of stuff to do. So with the fire under my arse now I must finish up my CSM, and I gots a whole new project! My super awesome boyfriend got me a Daemon Prince for my early Christmas gift, now I'm really excited to start painting again.

HOWEVER - I do need some paint scheme ideas, and the only thing is it's Slaanesh - and I have to incorporate Ice Blue/Tentacle pink into the scheme to keep it matching my marines. I would appreciate any ideas and pics .

Thanks alot

Hopefully seeing your (soon to be) renewed progress will also inspire me to get painting. My poor guardsmen are just sitting around, not defending humanity. I'm sure that once I see the looming violation that your daemon prince represents though, I'll recognize the need to get those guys fieldable just in case Chaos shows up in my town.

Violation? I guess so, my Daemon Prince will be pretty in pink/blue armor - it's flesh tones are what I'm considering now. I have an idea and if it's worth seeing will be unveiled in a bit - I still have my CSM to plow through first.

Maybe you should try painting other units? Sometimes it helps to get motivated just by breaking up the monotony by introducing something new. I have a very small number of units and I got bored by the repetiveness of it. But you should get painting, and I'm also gonna try and get some more gaming in (which is hard when I only know a handful of players - including metallifan who I can't play against anyway cause he'll just let me win ) But I guess yeah, play in the meantime - I assure you Chaos is alive and well.

Mm... Probably a part of the reason I can't get motivated to paint is that once I do paint, I still have no one to game with. We'll see what I can do about rectifying that, but in the short term that's a problem.

Also, Re: Violation.

I originally had typed "destruction," but realizing that it was a Slaanesh type daemon prince, "violation" just seemed to fit his probable modus operandi better.
