I've got nothing, painting-wise. I'll work on getting some pics of my guardsmen up once they're looking a little better, but I recently hit a dead end with them as I discovered that the paint scheme I was going to use just didn't look right. It has now been revised, and hopefully the new one will work out a bit better.

As for advice, my own painting level is somewhere between novice and disaster-waiting-to-happen. I hadn't painted anything in nearly ten years, so on top of never having been good to begin with I'm also rusty. For now, I'm happy when I can conceal my brushstrokes.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Skulltaker, for a couple of reasons. One, it looks like you're trying some new techniques that I may like to give a shot in the future. Two, I have no idea what a Skulltaker is. Can't wait for some pics!

Well it's nice to know there's other beginners out there too - the best thing you can do is just start painting. That's what I find. Although having thought out a color scheme before hand usually helps

I'll post pics as soon as I have something concerete to show, right now its just a red cape, and partial armor done - I had to quit before I was too frustrated.

http://www.diver.pt/loja/images/SKULLTAKER.jpg this is a skulltaker - basically horns and skulls, pretty evil daemony thing. Mine will have a black body instead though - like my bloodletters.

See, this is why i keep away from models while drinking
that, and blades + drink = injuries 99% of the time

but its good to see another daemons blog on the go, and even better to see leters that arent red

Also, the nettes are great, cant stand the new plastic ones (sorry if anyone like sthem, but they are gak)

I may have to start up a small daemons army, smiply for converting and the odd model for painting
That is if i can be bothered to sculpt another model (or finish the ones in progress lol)

@ JD
Drinking makes modeling way more fun - just less productive. And I'm lucky I guess I've yet to injure myself... knock on wood.

Do you have a daemons army? Still looking for ideas.

I disgree... I prefer the plastic, but I agree the old ones look far more appealing.

I'd like to try some conversion - but good luck on your projects, you sound like you have several to finish already

@ Astronomicon Thanks for complimenting the bloodletters.

For some reason I find metal models easier to paint... I think it's the detail so I know what to paint instead of the plastic models when some detail is obscured and joints mould together and I don't know when to stop painting the trim.... Me loves Wryd stuff ^_^

UPDATE: I got some chaos sphess marines. They're not even assembled yet - but does anyone have any color scheme ideas or knows where I can find an interactive painter online?

I was thinking maybe all-over black with ice blue armour trimmed with pink. and pink helmuts. I didn't want to go overkill with pink but I think if not used excessively it would look ok.

Hmmm, I can't think of one, try googling it but pink is good, what legion are they going to be? If you want pink/slaaneshy then Emperors children are a good idea, lots of bright colours and room to much around with really bright colour schemes, and there is LOTS and LOTS of pink! I have a nearly all pink Lucious!

Here's pictures of him, he's a mixture of purple, pink and blue.... not very well painted, now I have found that nail polish remover is also a paint stripper I might re-paint him a bit better ^_^

If your going for a Slaanesh themed CSM section then Lucious is a really good character to go with for a commander/named character!

I like this paint scheme, it's very original. I also like how you combined purple and blue and orange and it doesn't look candy coated. I was concerned that paler shades would appear too bright or pastel-y and childish. Thanks for the inspiration, did you wash over the purple or is that effect due to aging and wear?

Also I appreciate the tip, I had no idea nail-polish remover was also a paint stripper

No problem, I just stripped my friends whole calgar and he had LOTS of paint on it... it's now beautiful silver for me to paint it =3 Also, the purple is a wash, the white showing underneath is the basecoat of white I washed on, I left it there for highlighting ^_^

The only thing wrong with that pic is that it has Lucius the Eternal in it

Naw, kidding. He looks pretty clutch I definately like the blue souls.

And I still think you should do Emperor's Children! Or some offshoot... the E.C. scheme with Ice Blue instead of Pink would also look wicked.

EDIT: How do you get the CSM Painter to work in a post?

Painting while drinking works to some extent, after a while though i notice im painting more of my hand and table than the model
Converting while drinking is a big no for me, generally slip with blades which result in the end of that for the night

Just started off a daemons army as such, still converting most things though, just wanted to get a good base to the army 1st.

The plastic ones are better to paint and convert, but just look too plain and boring.

Got a few projects going on, but usually i wander off and leave them for something else lol, so ive got loads of unfinished things, like my Khorne prince ive converted, but its needed re-painting for years now:

in need of a serious re-paint lol, that was the result of drinking and painting for me

Sorry about that I always spell his name wrong.... I'm probably going to strip him as soon as I get some nail polish remover and will re-paint him, I'll put some pics up of the finished model =3

Oh yea, and how do you get the quote things to say who it's quoted from?

I'm doing Emperor's Children-esque theme. And there will be pink! Only in trace amounts so stop yer whining. But Ice Blue/Black is definately my preferred scheme.
EDIT: Also Lucius just proved that pink (purple - just any pastel shade for arguments sake) is awesome

I really like the Bloodthirster as is, really natural and evil looking. Do you have pics of your more current daemons?

I'll toss something out there that I think a lot of people ignore, especially with demons and many fantasy armies.

As you start adding units, keep in mind how you are going to tie the army together visually. As an example, you have your black bloodletters with bright swords, and beside them, very busy (colour-wise) daemonettes, with some pastel.

For example: let's say you took shiny black to be your 'base colour'. You would make an effort to make sure each unit had that built into the scheme somehow. The daemonettes could be given black hair, let's say. Or, go with the bright green on the tongues and make the same green as the clothes on the daemonettes.

This same effect can be achieved through interesting basing also, it is just an observation I have when I look at the unbased models - they look great, but don't look like they are part of a team.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

That does look rather cool! I also think that using a few colours as an army definer and making bases that are unique and run through the entire army make them look as one, for instance you could base them ass on snow bases, lava bases or just sand ^_^

I like it

Also I was going to make all their bases similar. I wasn't really sure how to tie them together though - I was going to go with an obsidian idea and black sand.

He really does need a new coat of paint lol, the current one is scruffy and the highlighting is pretty bad
also, need to change his klaw arm for a new arm, not sure what ill use yet.
Size wise he is a little shorter than a real thirster, but i just wanted to make one myself rather than use the plain one they sell

Image wise for anything else daemon:

unit of horrors (still in convertion stage, 1 painted)

Random bigass daemon im working on, but still very rough and needs tons of GS to build it up alot.

Current GUO im sculpting:

1st ever sculpt i did, nurgle daemon prince:
