I donno... It's certainly bright, but the flesh colour just never sold me to be honest. It looks too bland for Slaanesh.

I agree that the flesh colour is too bland for Slaanesh (I just liked it on the marines). But I can't use it on the armor anywayz :( I like JD's idea of washing blue over boltgun metal trim. and keeping the armor black with highlights
Didja pick a scheme for your troops yet? I was kinda thinkin' desert camo would be cool. Just my two cents not like you have no suggestions so here's one more to ponder.

Binky,
here is a link with a guide on how to make reptile scales with green stuff.

Good luck with the army and get some more minis painted!

Thanks for the tip - I will definately consider scales if just not to practice conversion. Speaking of which maybe I can give my DP some different weapons? edit: He really needs a much bigger, extravagant sword
I will definately be getting my painting done - then I can buys more units - therefore I can actually game with a decent sized army, and I seem to be bitten by the motivational bug Oh yeah and my last exam is tomorrow so after that I have no more excuses not to get things done!

I think I might do them in a bastardization of our old early 90's uniforms. The good old NATO Khakis
There's a pic of a tester on my blog. That'll probably be how I paint the Elysians (though likely minus the blue helmet)

Quick and easy method of making scales from GS: (had to do alot of work on my old salamanders army)
1: Flatten out the GS and apply it to the area your using yo make the scales on.
Make sure its about 2mm-3mm thick, depending on the size of the model.
2: go around the very edge of the GS which will be the edge of the scales, make the edges sharp, so remove any flowing lines as much as possible.
3: Use a knife (i use a small stanley blade) to carve the rough shapes into the GS.
It doesent matter if it doesent look right to start with, you just need to get all the scales laid out.
4: Once again with the knife, push it between the scales and move it slightly from side to side (go careful)
This will open them up a little more, giving you a tiny gap between each scale and making them look more realistic.
5: Use the end of an old paint brush (rounded ball tip) to gently prod randomly into the scales.
You just need to do it gently enough that it leaves a slight impression on the scales and will appear as a dent.
6: Just go back and tidy up any bits your not happy with.
If you want to remove any scales then wait till its dry, as you wont risk ruining a few of them then
Also, make sure you coat anything you use to sculpt in water or vaseline, otherwise the GS will just stick to everything. (i use water, but it doesent stay on the tools for too long)
Hope that helps, if not, i should have my cam chip back by friday and i could throw together a quick guide with pics.
Sword: If you want a larger sword its a simply plasticard job.
Nothing difficult, just a case of cutting away until your happy with the size and shape.
You could even go with a halberd style weapon for it, using some brass rod for the handle
Hope some of that helps
Been painting for once too lol, got my 1st nid test model done in my new ice scheme and im pretty happy with it.
Metalli: Could allways go with the blue DPM thats in the russian forces mate, its subtle, and looks great.

JD : The tutorial sure helps, but I'd definately appreciate pictures I'll be checking back Friday for sure. I'm sure there is 100 plus ways to form the scales, and i need some ideas - maybe i'll just google it.
I'll think on it, or I could swap out a different sword. Meh. Paint first.
Oh and never tried Vaseline, but I've found water dries too fast.
Thanks again for the help.

Binky: Ill write up a tutorial for you then on scales as soon as i can get pics on here
Should only take me 2-3 hours, and i actually have a friends termy unit here that he wants scales on lol (fething salamanders players)
Water can be a pain when it dries fast, also, if you over-do it with water you end up clotting up the model with water and you cant see what your doing lol. Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Not quite sure how someone could thread-jack your arse.

Fun times. Not as fun as doing your morning PT on roads covered in black ice while it's still dark out, mind you. Ever seen half a platoon slip and break their faces at once? Funny as all hell

KY Jelly is better than vaseline because it is water soluble. It washes off without leaving a residue like vaseline does.
edit: just read the thread and realized that you were talking about sculpting green stuff, not making sweet sweet love. Nevermind.
edit edit: yeah the first edit is just a joke and ky is awesome for working with green stuff.

1st: I apologise for the blurry pics lol, not my cam and i had to get a new chip in the end.
So i didnt have a fething clue how to work the thing.
But, this is what i got:
Make sure the blade your using for this is allways kept wet, otherwise it sticks to bloody everything and everything it can lol.
1: Get the basic model and work out how much GS you will need.
2: All the junk laid out on the table: Model, blade, water, brush and GS.
3: Apply the GS to the area your making the scales. (Duh!)
4: Sharpen up the edges and make sure it fits well.
Get rid of any overhanging GS as it will get in the way and its not needed.
5: Use the end of a rounded paint brush to stipple along the area, leaving indents over the GS.
After that, use a sharp blade and gently make scratch marks over it (make sure they arent very deep, you should only just be able to see them)
6: Start cutting into the putty, making the edges of each scale.
I find its easier to work from the edges inwards.
7: Finish up making the scale shapes on the model.
8: Use the very tip of the blade to make the gaps between scales wider (put the tip of the blade between them and gently move it side to side)
Do that along the edges of every scale (seems like it will take ages, but its pretty quick)
This makes them seem a little more life like rather than scratched on.
And you done!
And since i mixed up too much (bollocks!) i decided to do the same on the shin armour aswell
Once again hun, i apologise for the bad pics
If i can get my cam back later on ill re-do the whole thing so you can get a better look at how it all looks.
Also, if you got any Q's, just post here or drop me a PM, im allways on here lol.
Hope it helps
