Umm, thanks? What parts of the ideas didn't you like, out of curiosity? (I'm always up for constructive criticism). I don't know about talent though, I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near professional level and I have been doing miniature painting for a while. (And painting that Chained one for ages too )

Hey all, just a quick status report. I will be finishing my course in 17 days, my models are now packed up because we're moving straight after I finish. Sorry I haven't been updating this blog at all, but I haven't been doing any painting work due to finishing off my Masters project and dissertation. I may have some stuff done once we move, but that depends on space and jobhunting.

I do have some small news however, which I'm baffled about. My partner, after dissasembling his DE list for the umpteenth time, has dropped his harlequin troupe, giving me a troupe master and a shadowseer for my Wood Eldar army. Do Harlequins pop in on the Exodite worlds at all? Kind of tempted to paint them in as many shades of green as I can muster.

Really looking forward to seeing more of your work, I just read through your posts so far and you have some really nice models and painting skills.

Yes, absolutely. The little buggers get everywhere.

The fluff has them functioning as wandering repositories of Eldar lore, with some leanings towards being a way to escape Slaanesh's general party-pooping activities (The later being a more recent fluff development as GW has explored why & how the Eldar split after the fall).

I can see what I can recall/find on the latter aspect if you're curious; but I can assure you that the former role has been long-established in the Fluff and does see the Harlequins on Exodite worlds with Webway access :-).

Hello, I don't know if anyone is still reading this. Umm... well I've been getting back into Warhammer a bit, dusting off the old books and models and getting enthusiastic about the idea of working on my models again (and playing with them!). Whats the plan for the scheme on the KoS then?

Not sure yet, though I'm toying with the idea of giving her an ice blade, and icicles on her base from the pervasive cold that surrounds her. Still have to sand down her chest, add extra green-stuff tentacle hair and probably some eerie blue fire from her hand, ala the Mandrakes and the Horrors. Also have to smooth out some of the creepy piercings (she's a Greater Daemon of Obscuras, it's a bit OTT for anything but Slaanesh ). *ponders*

She'll probably have a similar scheme to the Whispers, since they're the closest thing, with a Bleached Bone with blue shadows skin, dark tentacles with royal purple extreme highlights, obsidian and silver accessories and a turquoise loincloth with a frost pattern on it. And Rotting Flesh claws. Of course, almost all of my models have glowing blue eyes.

I love what you are doing here. The conversions and reposed figures lend your miniatures a very artistic feel. I like that sketch up you did with that torso... looking forward to seeing some work on it!

Well, no Warhammer 40k army would get anywhere without its Troops choices and these are my main ones, my Horror units. Currently their pseudonym is Shadowphytes or Shadow Daemons, but this seems bland and I’m open to suggestions. I mostly use the old metal Horrors (last edition) with the maws filled in and Dryad heads pinned on top. They were actually pretty effective, with a black skin, funky blue glowing eyes, white Maori-esque tattoos and while I tried to model extra tentacles on them, it didn’t go very well because I was a noob at the time.



So, I had some outdated painting and some really horrendous green-stuff work going on, but the snag was that the Dryad heads are plastic. This meant that my favoured stripping agent – acetone aka nail varnish remover – would melt their little heads into a small pile of goo. Not to mention the bases who I’d already made up before I realised that I wanted to strip the models.

Now, I’d heard of this magical potion you could find in the UK called “Fairy Power Spray” so I decided to give it a go and see how it went. If it didn’t work, well, I’d have to acetone them and buy some new Dryad heads from bitsandkits or something. But, after 18 or so hours in the foam, I tried to take the paint off and off it came, and the plastic heads were not even scratched!



Don’t worry about the holes in their heads, I went a bit too far when I pinned them… every time. So, I want to mostly keep the look of the old Daemons but update them. I haven’t really started this one so there are a fair few things on the to-do list. Fluff-wise, these guys are the Horror/Daemonette/Bloodletter version of Obscuras’ daemons.

To-Do on the Shadow Daemons

Pin the dryad heads of the stripped daemons back on and green-stuff the back of the skull, fill in the maws, fill in the holes in their heads and green-stuff the gaps in the slottabases.
Pin fuse-wire armatures into every available hole for extra tentacular goodness.
Model said tentacular goodness onto the armatures in the same style as the existing tentacles (round and tapering).
Base with sand and gravel.
Basecoat, and paint up with black skin, glowing blue eyes, rotting flesh claws, and horns that fade from black to white at the tips (maybe a purple mouth?).
Give one unit white Maori-esque face tattoos and the other unit ice-blue tattoos to differentiate them.

Well I finally finished my Chained Whisper, after almost a year painting her (ahahahaha..ha...haa.... ).




Really pleased though with how she came out. Now to choose what to do next. Don't say the rest of the unit, because I think I'd cry if I had to start all over again.

So I have the Horrors, Mandrakes, Keeper of Secrets, Daemon Prince (still need a Nightbringer for that though...), Shadowhounds, Screamers and "Furies" to do.

Kind of tempted by the Horrors, Mandrakes and Keeper of Secrets. Would do the Daemon Prince if I had all the pieces though, as I'm aware that Sersi's generous gift hasn't been put to good use. On that note... which looks best?

I think it depends if she's supposed to be able to fly or not as the top wings would be too small for flight

However saying that the bottom wings look too Khorne like, I dont think they look very feminine if you see what I mean.

I think I prefer the smaller ones. And obviously, some demons can just "levitate", whether they have wings or not...

So for me, go with the first ones !

Also, great job on the Chained Whisper, nice to see her finished ! The blue highlights on the Steed look great, as does the teal/blue cloth... Great piece !

Thanks for the kind words on the Chained one . As always, there's always stuff I think I could do better, but I think it's about time she is finished.

Hrm... I see what you mean about the Khorne-like /masculine wings. Though this is a Daemon Prince of Obscuras so I'm more or less free to decide what that means. She has Daemonic Flight in every one of her incarnations - I keep playing around with the set-up, but that stays constant - so she does fly (well, moves like Jump Infantry. I guess her wings get tired? ).

What I would really like to use is the Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon wings and claws, since Obscuras has a bat as one of his main symbols. (and raven wings are too cliche). However, I already own the Dark Pegasus and Dragon wings.

Out of the two I prefer the Dark Pegasus wings.

Those Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon wings look fantastic though.

Maybe by the time I get around to the Daemon Prince I will have enough money to splurge on those wings (I still need to buy a Nightbringer as it is!)

Right, after realising I can't do the Seeker unit without bursting into tears (way, WAY too much time spent on the Chained to start all that again), I've decided to work on a big funky unit:- my Forgeworld Keeper of Secrets.

Here she is at her base state. I've chopped off her second pair of arms and will be denuding her properly of her second and third pairs of breasts once I have some time and a dust mask. Still don't know if I'm going to give her a sash across her body or not, but I've gotten rid of the Slaanesh iconography and the really disturbing stuff like her wraps being held up through piercings.




I did some work on her last night (sorry, no pictures yet) and filled in the gaps for her arms and on her neck, leaving enough room to do a finishing layer of green-stuff over the top once it's dried. I also did some work between her and the rocks on her base, because they were incredibly badly fitting. I figure a little superglue leaked into the join once it's dried should keep her attached without pinning now. I also created a setting for a jewel on her currently denuded necklace and filled in her mouth, again leaving enough space for proper finishing later. Pictures will come soon.

Now, she isn't really a Keeper of Secrets per se in my army. She is supposed to be a Greater Daemon of Obscuras, whatever that's called. Suggestions? Current GD names are Keeper of Secrets, Bloodthirster, Lord of Change and Great Unclean One. Shadow Bringer? Night Stalker? ... something less cliche?

This is hard. I need names for my normal bogstandard Shadow Daemons too, the foot-troops for Obscuras. Names I've already got are Whispers of Obscuras, Shadowhounds and Night Terrors. My Daemon Prince will be Lethdhar, lit. "Queen of Night" using the chaos-tongue rules from the WFB codex.

Think I might use the The Night's Wind for the Greater Daemon if I use Zarakynal's statline for her in Apocalypse, but it seems more like a singular name than something that's applied to all the Greater Daemons.

I think that's the hard bit finding a name that can be applied to a group rather than an individual.

Yeah, Voidstate has a name generator that focuses on pseudo-titles, like Keeper of Secrets, etc, by randomly combining nouns, verbs and glues. It's really good for situations like these or to make up Exalted threshold names. My faves so far had been Thousand Crimson Leaves and Lord Falling Blade, for NPCs.
