It's a bit muddy on the low end. The lower frequencies lack definition. Sub-bass seems okay, but 60-150 is kinda mushy. It's not always the easiest thing to fix so I wouldn't beat up the engineers too bad I usually get around it by running each track into 2 subchannels. One has a HPF cutoff at 150 and the other a LPF at 90. It takes out that whole problematic frequency range. Once I get to the mixing stage, I can dial back in just what I want. Certainly not the only way to handle it, but it works well enough for me.

I'm sorry, I don't speak.... whatever language that was! I just write (and sing) songs!
In the new year, we've got a producer coming in who's worked with some pretty big names - he'll be tweaking the record before taking it round the labels for us. Hopefully he'll sort stuff like this out for us. I'll certainly raise the issue. Thanks for the heads-up.

@mattyrm - You 'named' me!

@The_Saviour - Praise indeed! Thanks! Also, check out my mate's band Axis of Perdition. You may like them. Probably a little more up your street, to be honest.

@Fafnir - It's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, man. I wasn't offended at all, so don't even pay it no mind. Which other manc bands are you into? Have you heard Dutch Uncles yet? They're pretty good.

@kronk - Cheers buddy! Thanks for checking us out.

Heh, no problem, I'm used to glassy-eyed stares, which is why I usually just limit my comments on music to "it's pretty good" or "not my thing". Any producer worth his salt should be able to sort it out well enough, or have access to an engineer that can. Glad to hear you guys are doing well with it

Mostly the old standards. You know, Joy Division, The Smiths, Magazine, New Order and Electronic. I also got some Doves on here too.

"Come on, everybody loves you when you're goooooooooone"

I know I am late but only just found this thread, frack me mate!

I downloaded this today really expecting some trash thrash that some dick has cobbled together. I have never been so wrong in my life. Bloody hell it's good!!

The first track, Enough is Never Enough, made me sit up and listen once the vocals started. That feeling of shock and pure excitement will stay with me for a very long time. Beautiful vocals.

The only thing, and I mean the only thing I have isues with is the tendancy for the tune to drown out the vocals at times and at other times someone plays with the vocal effects especially in "Hospital" making it virtually unidentifiable. No need, the vocals are so good, reminds me of Tom Smith from Editors at times. The tracks are very well put together and with some professional production (no offence but it could be a wee bit sharper at times) you have some real anthems in there. Life of a Wife, Pressure, Enough and Everybody are all cracking.

More volume on the vocals, less playing with it. I have no idea who is singing and could not be arsed to trawl through the thread to find out but the band has some real talent. I really like it.

Send it to Zane Lowe on Radio 1. I am being serious.

Oh, I know what you mean. I absolutely hate metal (short of Jethro Tull [/trollface]) so I wasn't planning on downloading anything, and then I read the disclaimer Albatross put in his first post, and I became slightly interested. Even surprised myself when I paid for it, if only a bit.

Thanks a lot! I'm the vocalist/songwriter/some dick.

Wha? This ends here.

A couple of tunes from Elbow's latest. TRUEFAX: The guitarist drinks at my local.

'I've been working on a cocktail called Grounds For Divorce' is easily my favourite lyric of recent years.

The Happy Mondays. Not to everyone's taste, but I love 'em!

And finally - The Stone fething Roses!

A primer in three songs:

They are widely considered to have only one album (the eponymous debut) worth buying - I tend to disagree, as 'Second Coming' has some pretty cool stuff on it. That said, 'The Stone Roses' is widely considered a classic British album. Because it's fething mega.

Sorry I threw that in to highlight the fact that I really expected rubbish. It's a brilliant album. I bought and downloaded crystal castles and a couple of othe tracks from Amazon this afternoon but haven't listened to them yet.

With starlings turn it up quite loud as its hard to hear the first bit.

Albatross...

Is the band called Axis of Perdition or The Axis of Perdition?

I found a band called The Axis of Perdition some ambient Industrial Doom Metal.

Is that it? It's pretty good, more of my "Leave me alone I'm brooding music."

Oh, and for the record, Albatross, I'm a huge fan of the 'pay what you want' system of distribution. I hate buying physical copies of music and I hate iTunes with a fiery passion that consumes my soul. Your method combines pretty much everything I love about distribution while cutting out what I hate. No middle man or silly junk like DRM. It makes me feel good about paying for music. More bands need to do that.

Yeah, you got the right one.

@Fafnir - Cool, and thanks for paying, by the way! Really appreciate it.

Im not a huge fan of...er.. well anybody, but i was going to say Elbow.

However, the live version of "One day like this" is really spectacular, thanks to Elbow and the good old BBC, i think its their orchestra or something..

Anyway, check this out mate! Its good stuff.

Ok, so here's some more free music for the discerning people of Dakka:

http://dresdenmusic.bandcamp.com/album/re-dresden-dresden-reworked

Basically, we got a few people to remix some tracks from the record and did some ourselves. Just a different way of approaching the material, and the result is quite interesting, in my opinion. Totally different vibe to the original record.

It *is* electronic music, so be advised...

But most importantly... IT'S FREE!

Check it out, lemme know what you think!

Kisses!

I'm a bit late to this party but this:

Albatross wrote:Then yes, they are filthy.

One song is about how I want to cut out this woman's vagina and wear it as a gasmask.

I may have made that up, actually.

Made me choke on my tea!
Bravo sir!

Listening to your stuff now and rather than be disappointed in the lack of filth I am actually impressed.

Kudos to you and your band.

However I am currently trying to work the lyric 'I want to cut out this woman's vagina and wear it as a gasmask' into Annihilation.

Ooh, new (remixed) Dresden stuff? I'm nabbing that! I'll let you know what I think, but if your last Album was anything to go by, it'll be pretty good!

I did notice while listening to Annihalation earlier today that the beat was exactly the same as a passing cars indicator lights . Was this intentional? I think the public needs to know.
