So I'd say, take you list, remove the Carcharodons / Space Sharks, and go from top to bottom...

My vote, then, goes to the Fire Hawks!

I actually have some forgeworld red scorpion bits that I'll be using at some point, but for the time being I think I'll do the helmet in Fire Hawks colors. The Howling Griffins and Salamanders bits I will be doing next.

Hey Yggs, what does the fluff say as to likely opponents for the Mantis Warriors. i.e. who's carcasses should litter MY bases?

I LOVE those tiger marines! They really speak to me 'cause my son was born last year which was the year of the tiger. Did you do a step-by-step on how you did that, or would you mind? I wouldn't want to steal your idea, I just really like the idea of my lil' guy having his own tiger squad guarding him and for him to order around when he gets older.

Actually, I don't know...

Are the Space Sharks their main antagonist in the aftermath of the war (ie. after they are given rulership of the MW homeworld), or is it because they already fought a lot during the Badab War that the Imperium decided to give the planet to the Sharks?

That's something I don't know... Does anyone remember whether there are some elements in the RT rulebook? If so, I'd go and have a look..

If not... wait for a Dakkaite to buy the IA books and tell you, or choose your own main antagonist...

I stay with the same for each unit. This would tie the individual squads together.

Good job on the Space sharks.

I agree with Yggs.. Fire Hawks would be a good change.

If you have it, consider basecoating with Necron Abyss, and leave a tiny bit in a corner, it looks ace!

It seems to be highlighted enough, but we cannot see much from that angle... Maybe if you showed us from the side (thus seeing only one eye), we could appreciate the work better...

Bunnygurl this post is for you! I can add pictures if you'd like, but here is a step by step how to paint your own Astral Claw!

Armor Plates
Step 1: - prime model black

Step 2: - mix Calthan Brown and Macharius Orange - 50/50 mix, paint mix on all of the armor plates on the model

Step 3: - to that mix add more Macharius Orange so you're about 75% orange now, began to highlight up the armor plates

Step 4: - Devlan Mud entire model!

Step 5: - Highlight with straight Macharius Orange

Step 6: - Further Highlight with Macharius Orange / White 50/50 mix.

Stripes
For the stripes I am simply doing a squiggly line with Tausept Ochre, followed by a lower Chaos Black matching squiggly line.

Metallic Bits
Begin with dry brushed boltgun, wash with badab black, and then hit with mithril highlights.

Eyes and Base
The eyes I have done in a plethora of colors so I will let you decide on those. The bases have all been done using the mighty Gitsplitta technique. I will have to find that link for you, give me a minute. I feel like I am forgetting something but that should sum it up. Hopefully that will work for you, don't forget to water down your paints. I certainly never remember too, it's one of my biggest problems, but if you can remember to they may turn out better then mine! lol. Questions?

I love how clean your Minis look. Brilliant paint job, in what I consider a pretty difficult color to paint with. (Orange Yellow, White and Red seem to be the hardest to work with for me)

I like the Blacklining on the shoulderpad and feet. Looks good.

OMG! I painted a TON this weekend, unfortunately all 8 hours of it were the walls in my loft, not minis. However, I have today off so I decided to take a break from my walls and start on this banner base. Here is what I have so far.

That is suppose to be the Star Phantom symbol, which is a winged human skull. Now that I stare at the picture of it though it doesn't quite seem "human" does it? I think I need to clean up the wings a bit and do something to the skull I just can't put my finger it.

Looks kinda like a kroot head to me, not a winged human skull... I think it might be that the forehead is quite prominent, as well as the pointy teeth, as Yggdrasil mentioned. Other than that, nice banner
Oh and I am loving the tiger striped marines, I'd love to try painting some of my own, unfortunately I'm at universtiy at the moment, with plenty of free time but none of my 40k stuff :( Also I suck when it comes to mixing paints

Hmmm, good suggestions with the teeth guys. I may have to play with that. I think my little dirt clump on the banner may have made it a bit harder to tell the winged aspect of it, but I'll post another pic shortly to see if I can fix it a bit.

Filed down the teeth a bit, took out a little winged bit, shaved some off the forehead.

It's hard to tell I did much to it, lol.

Three problems... the lower jaw is too long and the teeth in a human skull are pretty far forward (and they arent pointy). Problem number 2 is that you got your pile of dirt covering up the differentiation between skull and jaw bone which also helps to set a human skull apart. Problem 3 is the prominent orbital ridge...which hasn't existed in humans since cro magnon. Check this out.

lmao, thanks Gitsplitta for the biological explanation. However! Problem 1, that is not a space marine skull. lol.

But I do see your points and I will attempt to correct them. Thanks!

Edit - Trying to fix this skull is proving to be the hardest part of my army so far! I may have to have my marine standing on the skull to hide it if this doesn't work out.
