Well, Here's the second attempt. Also updated the first one with additional colors to see if the base coat would look out of place with the secondaries added to it.
Also tried using multiple techniques on both. Specifically:
1) open flame to heat plastic - burn a few spots, and push plastic in to make dents.
2) Cutting plastic with knife to make grooves, and drill in to make bulletholes
3) Tried the foam dabbing technique to make chips and scrapes
Feeling much better about the whole paint scheme now, just need a little more practice with the detail work and the battle damage. So, what you think?

Lascannon shot- not so much. Looks like he might have a bit of brain damage or a need to visit the local apothecary for some repairs... but the burning idea is pretty cool, though it could get a bit far with a tiniest bit too much. Have you any close up unpainted shows of that?

No actually. I only apply it after painting because it adds to the idea of it getting melted or just dinged up.

Contemptor is very cool. Though it does remind me of the Iron Monger from Iron Man, so I would think you need to have one or more in your force just because, naturally.

I intend to have atleast two in the army, and possibly another. I want to put them on treads, because it fits with the experimental theme.

Treads as below their feet, or treads in place of legs? That last bit seems.....a waste. The model itself is pretty awesome (that includes the legs!). Now a regular Dreadnought on treads, that might be awesome sauce. Any idea where to get the actual treads from?

Tread's would replace the legs, but I think you're right, a standard dread (ironclad) would look better w/ tread legs. Lol I DON'T want to waste a TF Cannon, those will be strictly used as they are, w/o ripping them asunder as they are beautiful models to me and also hella expensive. These will be used, as they are much more affordable (7 euro's = $11-$12 US if my math's right....)

Here's the link upon request. Oh, and I was off about the prices, don't know what I was remembering.
A pair of treads is 3.50 Euros, so approximately $6 US? Conversion rate has been steady at approx. 1.6. Can't beat that price!

I wasnt planning any vehicles in my army, only dreads and devastators for heavy support, especially now those contemptors are available.
Tracked dreads sound like they could be wicked though, and they sound like they would fit perfectly with your Iron Mongers
Would love to do one just for the fun of modelling it but I'm not sure they would count as stealthy however lol

Ramshackle needs a lot of cleaning though but the stuff is really affordable. I got myself a Half Ute and am still considering wether or not to use them as my Chimera stand ins.

Agreed. The big thing about them is that the weapons have to be MASSIVE by comparison to normal because it just doesn't make sense to have a more stable firing base that can support more weight and still use the same little tiny weapons. For Example, if I were to do a TL AC Rifleman Dread, I'd probably use the Hydra Flak Cannon from the Aegis Defense Line, only I'd use 4 AC on each side, just to emphasize it's a BEAST.
But yes, tracked dreads can look pretty legit.
j3r03n wrote:Ramshackle needs a lot of cleaning though but the stuff is really affordable. I got myself a Half Ute and am still considering wether or not to use them as my Chimera stand ins.
Thanks for the warning. I'm thinking once I do buy some, I'll probably just shell out the cash for 3-4 sets, because I don't want to have to wait for two packages to ship to the US considering how long it takes. But if I don't like them after all, I'll just have more stuff for my trade thread!
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, debating on buying the damn treads early now haha (THANKS TONY) because of some delightful banter, but I do not have any Ironclad Dreads with which to convert. SO, anybody got something they'd be willing to donate or trade or sell.....?
Needing 3!!! But I'll settle for 1 for now!

Also if you are adamant about getting treads, I would suggest you look around their site a bit more. The treads are pretty pricey to but loose, for instance the Half Ute (the model I own) goes for 6 pounds, whereas the tracks by themselves will run you 3,50. That means for an additional 2,50 you will get an almost complete vehicle...
Something worth considering maybe.
Im still mightily impressed with you custom chapter, I almost got in all of my Deathwing parts as well so soon I will continue on that as well (on that note pop over to my thread, scroll back some and let me know what you think of the Cyclone Missile Terminator ;P).

Lol I know very little about proper rules creation, so for now I will keep them as the standard counts as Dreadnought. Just experimental transportation methods, or really just gives them the stronger firebase.
So yup. Standard dreads runnin treads. WOOT!

Alrighty, so BIG update....
Lol alright, maybe not so big.
1) Contacted FW with information about the possible recasting I bought via eBay.
2) Working on Iconography sheet. Bought super sculpy, and gonna try that out for a first.
3) Gonna attempt to obtain plates of slate to make some bases. Just cause I saw a sweet tutorial.
4)Also, gonna make some transfer sheets with the icons as well.
So yup, don't think I'm forgetting about my Mongers, just trying to figure some stuff out haha.

Highly doubtful. My 40k Mood swings are terrifically scary, so I have to have lots to work on, and so my progress is GREAT!!!!..... but spread so thin it's very disappointing, especially watching all the other guys on Dakka who are MEGA productive and much better at this stuff than me haha.
BUT it also inspires and brings to light new ideas, so meh!

In my opinion simple its better, if you are painting lots of models, something that is complex will end up doing your head in. Simple wins!

@ Knightley - Well, they won't be painted on is the thing. These ones on the units will be waterslide decals. Need to purchase the paper still though... Should get on that haha.
ALSO, picked up a resin casting kit from Hobby Lobby tonight. Gonna give it a whirl after I get the icons made tomorrow.

So, just tried my hand at super sculpy..... and it was an epic failure.
After carefully looking over the situation, I've come to a decision. I will just be using waterslide decal's for the units rather than sculpt onto them.
I'm not skilled enough to make it myself, and even if I was, it would be too thin and fragile as it was the first time.
And in the grand scheme of things, the army's profile and really their character doesn't include a lot of iconography. They don't really care about showing off who they are, they care about the mission. So just using waterslide decals works better as they'd probably just paint them onto the armor.
yup. so that's out for now. Just makes life simpler in the long run anyways.
HOWEVER, first attempt at making a mold is currently under way. I won't spoil what the bit is, so you will just have to sit and ponder for now!
