For the real life me, id take a las pistol. Rechargable here on earth to some extent, and all id need a weapon for is home defense anyway, but the power of the lasgun exceeds any modern handgun.

For fictional me, either a mastercrafted unique powersword, for the coolness factor of being an almost lightsaber, or the exitus rifle with turbopenetrator rounds, cause nothing on the planet would take a hit from that thing and walk away smiling. Heck, I bet you could sink an aircraft carrier with half a dozen shots.

Tactical because it is more maneuverable than Dreadnought Armour. Also, it's not a weapon.

I fail to see how a tonne of armor with built-in Powerfist is not a weapon.

The power fist is weapon.

If you have a suit of termie armour with a powefist, which is a weapon, then the armour is a weapon, w/o it isn't

\Only because fluff writers don't know what a railgun is. There is no recoil to a 'railgun', there is no chemical propellant. It's all done with magnets. The magnets align and super propel a slug down a barrel. With no propellant, there are no escaping gases, and thus no recoil.

that's not what recoil is, nor how recoil works. recoil is just newton's laws in praxis: for every action there's an opposite and equal reaction. recoil isn't caused by combustion. doesn't matter if it's magnets, air pressure, combustion, hydraulic pressure: in order to move something one way, there has to be equal and opposite pressure going the other. what you're saying is the equivalent of picking yourself up by your shoelaces.

No, the ammunition for a railgun is super tiny, it's just going at unbelievable speeds. With that little mass, there is not enough momentum to shift the enormous gun. Also, the gases account for like 99/100 of recoil. If you use a magnet to attract iron fillings, do you feel the magnet being pushed away from the filings? No, that wouldn't make sense, at all. This is the EXACT same thing.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Time for quotes about modern-day railguns!

"a muzzle velocity over 5,800 m/s, accurate enough to hit a 5 meter target over 200 nautical miles (370.4 km) away while firing at 10 shots per minute"

"a 64 MJ weapon to be deployed aboard Navy warships"

"more damage than a BGM-109 Tomahawk missile at a fraction of the projectile cost"

"apply the technology as a rapid-fire automatic weapon, a railgun would have further advantages of increased rate of fire. The feed mechanisms of a conventional firearm must move to accommodate the propellant charge as well as the ammunition round, while a railgun would only need to accommodate the projectile. Furthermore, a railgun would not have to extract a spent cartridge case from the breech, meaning that a fresh round could be cycled almost immediately after the previous round has been shot."

that means faster than any minigun could ever fire, with more power than a tomahawk missile, at a fraction of the cost, at 5400 m/s over 200 nautical miles. HUMANS RULE!

Have fun trying to weild weapons designed for superhumans.

Oh silly me for making an unrealistic weapon choice in a thread about what weapon I would wield from a fictional universe set 38000 years in the future, boy is my face red
