I thought GW redesigned the LR for a reason. So that we could all forget the horribly ugly RT ones. Thanks FW for wasting time making stupid piles of resin like that as opposed to, oh I don't know, making something worth buying. I don't understand why anyone would be excited for this. I'd imagine that if anyone wanted one of those stupid tanks they would have bought them years ago, you know, before they costed a small fortune. Bet my frined will make some cash as he still has about 10 of those old LR boxes that he never opened.

The DE thing is cool looking. I think all the new DE stuff looks great. I could never play them however, as I hate any and all things elves.

Loving the look of the tantalus, but I can't myself buying one at that price. Very interested to see the rules and a close up of the model though to be honest... I can't see why the DE would need a non-space fairing vehicle to be so big, kind of defeates the object of them being sleek and hard to hit.

Anyway, here's a link to the FW site that shows all of the models they'll have available for sale at Games Day http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Events/Games_Day_UK_2011.html

I figured its kinda like the Dark Eldar Caestus Ram. Its for flying over vehicles and then getting out to assault whatever comes out

If your friend really does have a bunch of old Landraiders, send me a PM. Sersiously, I want one.

That would be pretty sweet. The description does seem to lend itself to being able to take out vehicles somehow...would be interesting to have something that is both effective at that and able to carry troops as well!

I can't disagree with him though, why make another land raider when there are so many gaps in other peoples codex's?

Not intending to start a debate on that point, as it'll just descend in to GW bashing / wish list creating off topic nonsense, but imho the models butt ugly, & doesn't make sense (check out the blind spots! All you'd have to do to take one out is sneak up on the sides where the driver can't see you and plant a bomb on the tracks). The newer, sleeker LR looks much more ornate, which made more sense to me given that they represented a tank version of terminator armour (rare, and damned good).

Just my opinion.

Because filling in missing codex models has never ever been Forgeworld's stated goal... They make models at a premium price (even compared to plastic and now GW resin prices) that are niche pieces in their branded hobby generally dependent on whatever supplement they're working on and based on what will sell. As for the other comments about a LR's blind spots, let's not put reality into the discussion of GW models. Forty thousand years in the future, I expect that "modern" soldiers will operate via VR and shoot gigawatt lasers from their eyes (or set off megaton explosions with their minds), not swing at each other with implements designed to cut down trees in the 1900's and ride around in interwar WW1 and WW2 tech tanks like the Leman Russ. An LR with blind spots fits in perfectly with the rest of the universe that doesn't make sense yet looks/feels/plays cool.

In the few instances where FW has "filled in" something missing from a codex it was mostly items FW already made or were in the process of making and GW was simply adding it to the codex. The only thing out side of that is the Techmarine with a conversion beamer, but he's technically a special character from their campaign.

Speaking of that Tech-Marine, do we know if his shoulder pads are separate? I know that the Red Scorpion Librarian's shoulder pads were, meaning you could make him any Chapter you wanted (I made him into a Deathwatch Marine), so I'd hope this guy has separate shoulder pads as well. You can make pretty much anything out of him if they are.

Er...why?

I don't understand how anyone could have thought the Proteus was a good idea. What was going through the design team's head when they decided to get a Land Raider and turn it in to an RC car with tracks twice the size of the body?

The same thing as when GW did it the first time in the 80's?

Incidentally, it's incredibly hard to find a picture of one NOT converted.

Also, here's hoping FW does an updated Spartan!

I'm not sure what you mean by twice the size of the body... but the designers were probably thinking: "Hey look at all these people trying to track down the old model and paying sooooo much for it. Wouldn't it be great if we could get some of their money?" The Proteus is the greatest thing for Pre-heresy builders and players. When all is said and done GW will have sold many more Proteus tanks than Tantalus flyers... so they're obviously doing something to please their customers, even if you aren't one of them.

For me I love the Proteus... I've been dying to include a Land Raider in my Chaos SM army, but one of my goals with that army was to distinguish my vehicles from the loyalist vehicles without resorting to hull mutations or infestation or runes to get the point across, since I play an undivided army. For me I hate the aesthetic of Chaos being Imperial plus spikes... I want a different aspect defining the aesthetic distinction. I chose "age"... I use alot Chapterhouse's mk1 rhino-addons for my vehicles and lot of weathering and wear and tear. In that way a Proteus suits me very well... as it does for like-minded chaos and pre-heresy players.

I get it, you don't like the look. Its design is actually more practical in a number of ways than the modern Land Raider design, which many people have just as many problems with. This is the nice thing about a hobby that promotes converting... if you want a land raider that looks different from either design, make it.

GOOD call there!

I hope FW does that too!

Though I suppose it would just be a Crusader without the extra guns?

But then maybe we could equip it will some of the cooler options from the Contemptor?!?

Most likely. I highly doubt any updated rules for it would include the old "Poops out Terminators as it moves" ability.

As someone who started playing 40k "only" about 10 or 12 years ago, I think the Land Raider looks pretty ridicoulus.
I get why H.B.M.C. is so happy about it. He's old, the model's old, they're both old and fit together perfectly.

Even though I'm only 24 I am no stranger to Nostalgia, though in my case it's geared more towards old movies and videogames. But this model just doesn't fit with the current asthetic of 40k. Retro Marines are one thing. But this thing looks almost as bad as the 3rd edition Ork bikes. I'll pass and I hope everyone in my gaming group will do so as well.

The Dark Eldar skimmer is a real beauty though.

i'm guessing if they do the Spartan it'll have the ability to transport 10 terminators or 20 regular guys. Also H.M.B.C, the shoulder pads are separate on the master of the forge

This Proteus is suppose to be faster... so a spartan would presumably be a faster crusader without the gun.

The Proteus obviously is missing the assault ramp... and the "pooping" of terminators would reasonably give it back those rules.

Yes, I saw the pics someone linked to above. Makes me very happy because:

1. It means I don’t have to have an Astral Claws Tech-Marine, he can be whatever Chapter I want.
2. I can use the Astral Claw pads to make Deathwatch Marines (the Deathwatch RPG is set before the Badab Uprising, so it fits!).

You guys have realised that FW are doing a whole range of old style space marine stuff right??? thus the reason for the old land raider.
And besides how can you truly hate FW for some models they release. In all honesty they are a company that doesnt need to exist but they do and make awesome models.

Personally i cant wait for the new IA books. mainly the apoc one for all the new vehicles.(man i want me one of those new IG launchers)

Haha, I was wondering if the Spartan would come up. I bet that a retro MkI Rhino could be in the works at FW. If so, anyone willing to buy both kits could possibly convert up a retro Spartan, which would be in line with the original spirit of the old WD article where you are meant to buy both vehicle kits in order to make two entirely new vehicles. A retro Sabre Tank Hunter, now there's a thought!

Do you think FW will do an Old School Terminator line, with slimmed down frames old style Storm Bolters?
