Sniper Monk looks cool, the gun is great. If you're still working on him I think a necklace/pendant might break up the front of the model somewhat, in addition to something hanging off his belt. Cool stuff.

*hangs head in shame*
A whole month who no updates from me. I swore I wasn't going to let this go and I was going to be consistent with it , but I also had Skyrim pre-ordered since the summer. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who got swept up in the most amazing game to ever kick me in the face.
I haven't been completely useless though. I've been slowly working on my Inq28 boys, and a contest piece for ThroneOfSkulls as well. Here are some of the updated models:

The Ecclesiarchy guys are almost finished. I have a few areas to clean up, little spots of paint here and there that don't belong, but other than that they are finished. In the near future, probably after Christmas, I will be adding a Redeemer model to this group, and the color scheme will be inverted. Instead of having white robes, his robes will be the crimson-purple with beige detailing. He'll have a custom-built eviscerator, and will be based on a Flagellant model with a fair amount of conversion work. I also intend to eventually get my hands on a set of Empire Free Company. I will be using this set to convert up and represent a handful of common militia that the Ecclesiarchy has rallied to their cause. Cannon fodder, to be sure.

Here's this dumb guy:

I decided to give him a rope necklace to echo his belt. The sculpting on it isn't all that good, but I'm going to hit it again today with a knife to see if I can't make it look a little more realistic. After that, I'm done converting him, and he'll be ready for painting. I am thinking of giving him muted colors on his robes and armor, to contrast with the warm browns I am going to use on his skin. I want him to have a skin tone similar to the indigenous people of SE Asia and Oceania. I might do some freehand symbols on his shoulder plate and left bracer. I was thinking a modified Imperial Cult symbol to represent the symbol of his monastery.

Last, I have this guy, who I converted up yesterday:

He is going to be part of a group of Witch Hunter acolytes that the Ordo Hereticus cell has recruited into service. This particular model will represent the "squad leader" of the acolytes, and the common troopers will be similarly converted out of Bretonnian Men-at-Arms, armed with autoguns and shotguns.

That's all the updates I have for now, but I should be back to regular updates now that I've crested my Skyrim addiction, and I have enough spare cash to be buying parts again. In the coming weeks I should be putting up pics of the Redeemer, Witch Hunter acolytes, and possibly something much bigger.

Oh that is my new favourite conversion.....that last guy has "the look" I want to go for with my upcoming curate. The head is a great choice and has squad leader written all over it. Nice autogun conversion too.

The cadre of priests look good, nice detail in the book.

It's from the Empire Greatswords kit. The squad he is leading will mostly have the standard Bretonnian Men-at-Arms helmeted heads, because I really dig the WWI look of the helmets. Since these guys are not Guardsmen or PDF troopers or Arbites or part of any official military, I wanted to give them a low-tech feel. I think having a ton of pouches on each guy will help achieve that, even if it is taking a page out of Rob Liefeld's book. And man, do I ever hate Rob Liefeld.

Oh hai

So there you go, an almost-finished painting-in-progress image of Gyatso. I really like the way his skin has turned out. I got the bronzed tone I was going for. However, I plan on doing some more work on his robes and armor. The shoulder pad looks like a mess at the moment, but when I upload an image from the side you'll be able to see the weathering and chipping I've done on it.

While we're on the subject of big guys:

This is an early WIP shot of Brother Tymon of the Red Hunters. This is my first real attempt at truescale Space Marines, and I'm pretty happy with the size and proportions I've achieved. It didn't come out in the photograph, but there is a strip of plasticard running around his waist that bulks him out so he doesn't look like an hourglass. The obvious challenge I ran into when working on him was to make sure that he was bigger than Gyatso. It took some work, but I got him to stand a head taller than the monk. Being as how part of Gyatso's back story is he has whatever the 40k version is of acromegaly, this is fitting. Brother Tymon should be on my painting table soon, right after I file down the messy putty and fill in the gaps. Please give me suggestions for him!

Finally, I have a mockup I built a few days ago:

I'm sure conversions exactly like this has been springing up all over the place, so I won't say it's a stroke of genius. I literally just threw together the leftovers from my Manticore set and repositioned the legs. I thought he looked like a Chaos Magos that has begun his ascension to Daemonhood. What do you all think? Keep in mind he is very WIP. I may swap out his staff, but I just like the way it looks so much at the moment. The base model is one of those sculpts that looks so good as it is, it's really a crime to change it. Also if I do something that screws it up beyond repair, I'd rather not shell out another $50 for a new Manticore kit. so I can replace him.

Let me know what you all think. Painting should speed up now. I'll be starting work on my Navigator and his House Militia as soon as I decide on a color scheme for them.

Dex the monk looks good painted. Very nice indeed.

The Marine looks good thus far. As does the magos, perhaps a bolt pistol in his out stretched hand and some sort of tech staff in the other hand.

I like the monk; he's certainly different, and can stand on his own alongside other conversions of the Nurgle Lord.

The Space Marine does look very thin-waisted, but I'll reserve judgement. He looks like his whole chest could do with thickening out.

The Magos is quite an intriguing figure! Keen to see what you do with it.

Thanks for the compliments! The monk really just has a few details to go, as I said. I'm going to see if I can't do something about his eyes, but they may be beyond my ability to do the way I want them to look.

The picture makes Brother Tymon's waist look a lot thinner than it is. Unfortunately, when I adjusted the levels of the image in Photoshop, the plasticard around his waist blended in with the white background, so it actually made his waist look a lot smaller than it really is. Still though, looking at him now, he could use some bulking up in the midsection. I think what I'll do is sculpt him a proper belt, which will add some much-needed width around his lower abs, and I'll add some more plasticard around his midsection to increase his bulk there. Here's hoping that I haven't shot myself in the foot by gluing his arms in place before I finished with his torso.

I'm glad you both like the Magos. At the moment I'm very unsure about which direction to take him in, so odds are he'll be sitting on my desk for a while. Like I said, he was literally just something I threw together from leftovers, and I haven't put a lot of thought into how I could fit him into the narrative I'm trying to build with the models I'm showcasing here. I'll think of something. Mol, when I send you the next batch of character fiction I'm working on, I'll include some details about the Chaos element that exists within the narrative, so you can help me brainstorm ideas for how the Magos could fit into things.

Here is an update on my progress with Brother Tymon.

I bulked out his waist by adding a proper belt, and thickened his midsection accordingly. He is much less top-heavy now. The arms are missing from the shot at the moment because it turns out one is longer than the other, so I'm doing what I can to rectify that. Also, with or without the loincloth?

A box of Flagellants came in the mail today, so I've begun work on my Redemptor Priest for the Ecclesiarchy cult. At the moment I only have a picture of his Eviscerator with attached Exterminator, but pictures of the rest of him will follow soon. And yes, don't worry, I'll be re-working that arm so my Redemptor Priest isn't wearing an IG-issue jacket.

My Redemptionist is coming along pretty well, so I'll probably have shots of him up tomorrow before I go out for New Years. He's going to look suitably insane.
Any opinions on the cloth on the Space Marine? I really can't decide if he looks better with or without it.

It's actually much smoother than it looks. I've used liquid green stuff here and there to fill in tiny cracks, which gives it a very patch look in this raw stage. I do lubricate my tools using mineral oil, so for the most part all the sculpted surfaces are smooth. The thighs need some filing work, and I'm going to hop out real quick tomorrow and buy a set of jeweler's files for that purpose. Obviously I've been using Kneadatite (Brown Stuff) for some of the putty work here, and when you file/scrape it, it looks much more rough than it really is. No worries though, he won't be getting paint until his surfaces are smooth.

Loincloth??

I've always wondered why armored warriors wear loincloths.

"Listen Sarge, I'm wearing full-sealed, life-sustaining armor here capable of withstanding heavy weapons fire, I feel pretty safe."

"Yeah but I don't want anyone looking at your crotch and wondering what's going on down there, what with the genetic augmentation and all. Just wear this washcloth over your junk and don't say another word about it!"

It definately looks cool-er with the loincloth, but you are right, there is really no purpose to it other than looks.

What I want to kow is, what techpriest had to inspect his junk and how did he determine it was "pure" enough to warrant not one, but two purity seals?? lol

Or are they more like the stickers they put inside your windshield when you get an oil change? So they know when to scrape the fromunda cheese next?

Here's an early shot of my Redemptor:

He is just blu-tacked together at the moment. I'd like to find room to add tons of junk hanging from his belt, including a book, scroll cases and a few heretic skulls. I was going to give him a back banner, but I figured when you wear a burning hat, it'd be best not to tempt fate by hanging a paper banner above your head. Let me know what you think, I'm really liking how he's turning out so far.

Everyone you've mad are looking epic Dex! One thing about Tymon is that he's still got the termi bits at the top of his leg, I normally remove that part so the legs look more like power armour are you going to do the same? It's more out of personal taste than a problem. Keep up the good work!

I thought about removing the hip plates, but I rather like them. It's not just a cop-out because I don't want to have to deal with all the filing and re-sculpting that would be required in removing them. I really do think they improve the overall look of the model, so they'll be staying.

My Navigator and his House Militia are undercoated, I'm just waiting for inspiration on a color scheme to hit me. I may go with very dark blue cloth, highly polished silver and gold armor, and for an accent color I'm thinking either a greenish-yellow or a bright pinkish-orange (salmon). The House crest will be a solar eclipse of a sun painted in the accent color. I'm still thinking on it some though, and I need to mix up some color samples and see how they look alongside one another, so it'll be a few days before I put paint on them. As for my Mechanicum models, I was going to wait until I had converted my Magos and a few Skitarii and do them as a batch, but it may be a while before I get around to working on them, so I do plan on painting up at least the Enginseer, and the Secutor if I can get around to building him a servo-arm.
