I love what you are doing. I am working on some dark mechanicus for my nurgle legion to act as auxilla. where did you order your clockwork bits from?
You are doing an awsome job overall. very convincing conversions. Cant wait to see the tech priest. Awesome.

I got the clockwork bits on eBay. If you search for "watch parts", you can find tons of auctions selling bags of gears and cogs and various watch parts, although to my disappointment, about half of the pieces in the lot I bought are probably not going to be of any use to me. Still, for what I paid, it was a good buy.
Thanks for the compliments!

I just went there and found a lot for 5 dollars with free shipping. the bits you got, were they too big? How many did you get and how many were the right size. I am just wondering because there are a few more lots that have free shipping and the same price tag. Hard to tell what i am getting since the pic is of A lot not THE lot that i am going to be recieving.
BTW. if you go to a music store that re strings guitar and other instruments, you can ask for old used strings to use in your models and get tons for free that way you can build up the mechadendrites etc. for your tech priest.
edit. i went ahead and just bought a second bag anyways, 10 $ is less than i usually spend on a single mini and since i have to construct all manner of nasty Chaos Mechanicum, those bits will come in usefull no matter what.

Yeah it's a bit of a crap shoot. I would say that every piece I got is of a size that is usable in 28mm scale. The smallest ones I got are the size of the gears I have on my Enginseer's servo arm, and the biggest one is about the diameter of a nickle. Most are closer to the size of the smaller gears though.
As far as the strings go, I play guitar, so I hang on to strings when I break them or wear them out. One of my guitars is about due for a re-stringing as it is, so I'm good on that front. Thanks for the tip though!

The warrior priest models are really nice and with minimal effort you can be turned into 40k characters.
What have you in mind for the one with hammers (the back of the model is great too)? I'm planning on using him again for my latest warband.
I've got my fingers crossed that the rumours are true and there are a further 18 plastic single frame miniatures being released and surely one of them will be another priest

Well, I was thinking that I would turn the Warrior Priest into an Interrogator. The first Inquisitor I posted in this thread has been demoted to Interrogator, and I wanted to create a narrative within the group. Orazio is a famous Witch Hunter, and his son Antoni is the model in my second post here. I want two Interrogators serving under Orazio. The second, as-of-yet unnamed, Interrogator is the Warrior Priest. My basic premise was that Antoni and Other Interrogator were classmates in the Schola Progenium, and both were selected by Orazio for service in the Inquisition. The basic difference between the two is that Antoni's mindset is that he is destroying the wicked, while Other Interrogator believes he is protecting the innocent. More or less the same thing in practice, but the difference in perspective greatly influences their personalities. Thus, Antoni does not have much in the way of purity seals or any sort of holy trinkets. Other Interrogator, on the other hand, should have tons of purity seals, scrolls, and other devotional charms. There is a tension between the two characters, as Antoni has a superiority complex, while Other Interrogator is worried that Antoni's cruelty may signify the touch of Chaos.
After reading that thread, and learning that 18 more plastic minis will be released, I may hold off on buying the Warrior Priest for now, and see what gets put out. I won't wait six months to see, but I may put him off until Christmas.

Morning Dex
I actually meant what did you have in mind for the conversion of the priest with the hammers? Head swap, arm swap, weapons? You mentioned a ton of purity seals which I whole heartedly approve of . I use Green Stuff purity seals and find them to be just fine, you just have to discipline yourself too not touch the model until they are dry (this part is difficult but better than the feeling of "bugger" I've put my finger in it).
I do like the idea of them being polar opposites in their methods of performing the Emperor's will. I could see them coming into conflict over a lot of things which could make for an interesting campaign down the line once both are Inquisitors.
I really hope that the 18 plastics really do get released. I've got my fingers crossed on some more 40k conversion fodder

Great job on reworking Gyatso's face it's a lot more subtle and less Pillsbury Doughboy now.
The Witchhunter gives off a very serious vibe with that low hat-brim, it's a fantastic model and oozes that feeling of going about his task with grim determination.
The Greatsword guys do still look a little fantasy at the moment but should tie in nicely once there's a common colour scheme with their "boss". Maybe a few bionics would help?
Looking forward to more.

Hello again everyone. My apologies for going almost a week without an update. Way too many parties were thrown over the Halloween weekend. However, I did manage to get a bit of work done, and I'm back at my desk today working to get back to my previous pace.
At the moment, I don't have many images to show you, but I did take this yesterday:
Gyatso's sniper rifle, complete in it's customized glory. The standard sniper rifle model was simply too small for him, and as I'm sure you all have noticed by now, I'm developing a love of converting custom firearms. I'm going to try to find a way to add a trigger guard to it, but other than that it is finished.
Gyatso himself is getting his robes sculpted on at the moment. They are about 50% done. When I'm finished the robes, I'll slap on his right arm and convert it so that he is holding the sniper rifle. Then he'll be ready to paint.
Speaking of painting, I primed four minis today which I will probably being painting tonight. Three of them are the Confessor, Templar and Preacher from the first page of the thread. They will be getting cream-white robes with plenty of gold detailing and embroidery, and I am thinking a deep, purple-crimson as their accent color. The fourth mini I have primed is the tracker mercenary, who is a very simple model, but I think he still has a lot of character and should be fun to paint. I am not sure what colors I am going to do him in yet, as he is a mercenary and doesn't conform to the warband color schemes I have in my head. Since I want to give him a bayou feel, I may go for tanned skin, and olive clothing. Maybe with a dirty white as an accent color. Thoughts?
The other progress I made over the last week was adding two more members to the Navigator's retinue of House militia. I decided, after building them, that I hated the lasgun design I had built, and am going to replace them with repeater handguns from the Outriders set. However, right now I pretty strapped for cash, and am going to have to hold off on buying new minis and parts for a little while. Which means, finishing the models I have now, and painting what I can.

No mustache, I'm afraid, but his belly is epic enough to compensate for that.
Here's Gyatso as he stands right now:
I just finished working the putty on his back, and when that dries I'm going to give him a simple rope belt. I'll also clean up the green stuff using files and liquid green stuff, as some areas are a little sloppy. What do you guys think about paint schemes for him? I am going to give him a very bronzed skin tone, like if he were from Polynesia or Indonesia. I was originally thinking orange robes, but I think since his skin tone is going to be warm, his robes should offset that. Keep in mind that he is a monk, and his robes are a mark of his holy order.
Right then, back to the painting desk. Gotta get started on my Ecclesiarchy guys.

I was thinking a blue/gray as well. And the symbol hanging from the belt is a great idea. It won't be an =I= symbol, since he technically is not a member of the Inquisition. He is a monk of a backwater branch of the Imperial Cult, and is serving under an Inquisitor for a short period of time. In that sense, while he functions as part of the Inquisitor's retinue, he is not officially inducted in as an acolyte. I was thinking an Imperial Cult symbol, or a deviation of it that would be unique for his temple. I'll put some thought into that.
Painting is coming along well. I hope to have PIP pictures up tomorrow.

Have you found a trigger guard yet? Have you looked at the little handle looking bits that come with an imperial tank? I've used one on my "counts-as-flamer" BBQ:
It's at the top of the BBQ, as the handle for the lid. Its a weedy as all get out bit but it might be worth checking to see if it fits. The monk is looking good by the way.

I've got a painting update on the Ecclesiarchy boys. This is still fairly early in the process. Some areas are still just have a coat of primer on them. I'm uploading this to show you my color scheme and get some feedback on it. I wanted to move away from the traditional Imperial Cult color scheme of red/white/black, but not too far away. I ended up going for beige/cream and purple for the cloth, with purple obviously serving as the accent color, and using plenty of metallics where I can. I like the color choice, as it is still has a very strong clergy feel to it, and the purple also lends a sense of royalty to things. If GW ever actually makes some plastic Sisters of Battle (I'm not holding my breath), I will get a double to use as an honor guard, and paint them in a similar color scheme. As of right now, the purple and gold are just a base coat, and the silver has only one wash on it. The robes are about 70% done, and need a bit more shadow glazing to get them where I want them. The faces are done, except the right eye of the Preacher. It's a little hard to tell in the image, but I'm having trouble getting that eye into the shape I want it. For the longest time it had a square pupil which was driving me nuts.
So, comments please on the color scheme. I'm going to spend a few hours painting today, and hope to finish the robes and start the glazing on the purple areas. When that is done, I'll be doing TMM on the metals, using the handy-dandy free download of Les' TMM tutorial I got from MiniWarGaming as a guide. I am pondering two things at the moment, that I would like to get input on. First, for the purity seals, should I do a red wax seal or purple? And for the Templar, I am most likely going to do OSL from his torch. Any input on how strong the light source should be, or if I should even do it at all?

OMG, the creamy color of the robes is Fantastic! Don't change that! work those shadows! Make sure whatever you do to the trim around those robes that the color is on the opposite side of the cream on the color wheel. That purple lightened just a bit with something will look spot-on!

I am absolutely in love with that hand flamer!

Thanks for the compliments. The purple is going to be highlighted by mixing it with red rather than white, which will make the highlights look warm and really pop. The shadows are going to be glazes in using a dark blue, so they will be cool and the purple will have a pretty dramatic effect.

So I added the shadows, and for the highlights I decided to experiment with Liquitex glazing medium, instead of thinning the paint with water and applying super-thin coats. Putting the paint on was like a dream, and required a lot less effort than the water method, but apparently the glazing medium has some sort of gloss in it, as everywhere that was highlighted now has a glossy finish. I'm going to try to go over it today using the water method to see if I can cover up the gloss with a matt finish, if not, I'll have to wait until the end and spray them with matt varnish.
No pics for right now, sorry, but I'll get some up later today or tomorrow.
