Minor update. I've actually had this guy finished for a while, but I didn't get around to photographing him. He didn't get much feedback when I posted WIP pics, and to be honest he's not my favorite character. I do think I was successful in pulling off the general "feel" I wanted him to have, so I'm happy about that.
I'm hoping to have the time to get some painting done this weekend, and finish up the monk, and post final painted pics of the Ecclesiarchy. I'll also be aiming to get started painting my Navigator.

It's a bit late dsteingass but I'll give it a go....
Dexter send the cool redemptor priest to dsteingass....I'm sure you've had too much hobby fun with it already.
Rufus Hoty looks good, I'm a big fan of the understated look you've given him....no nonsense hired muscle. The rolled up sleeves and the crude bionic/sight are a great touches. I totally missed him on the first read through the blog....I had to go back and find him. I think he went a bit under the radar because of the Inquisitor above him. The size of the picture meant he was easy to skip past too....perhaps a single front facing shot would have helped him stand out.....same with the painted version.

Agreed. To be honest, he's not a major character in the narrative I'm building, and he really just came together when I found that head in my bitzbox and decided to build a model around it. If I had wanted him to be a bigger deal, I would have posted more WIP shots of him on the blog, but he was converted in one evening, painted in another, and set off in a corner of the desk while I worked on screaming Imperial Preachers.
Are there any thoughts about the color scheme of my Navigator and his House Guard? I'm leaning towards a very dark blue as the main cloth color with trim and symbols painted in a lighter blue, and highly-polished silver and gold armor. A cold, clammy skin tone will set them off as being distinctly weird. I'm wondering if this will be too cold of a scheme, and if so, which color to alter to warm things up a bit.

With my navigator I went with dark blue....initially wanted to use the colour of the night sky but it got a bit lighter and got a bit more naval. So your colour scheme definitely fits my interpretation of the colour pallet of the navigator households.
If you want to add some colour to the silver you could try out this high end metallic technique http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1649-metallics. From experience very time consuming.
Of course you could warm it up you could add a warm spot colour....simple line round the bottom of the robes perhaps, paint the robe like a star chart. with some colour to the planets, suns and astral bodies?

A quick update:
This is a PIP shot of Brother Tymon. I would consider him to be about 40%-50% done. I have a lot of detail I want to cram on him and really make him look the way a Red Hunter Veteran should look. At the moment though, I am toying with the color scheme a bit. My big question I want to ask the forum is this: do I need more yellow? I feel that from the back he may be too red. From the front I think he's fine, but I can't help but think he's simply too monochrome from the back. What would you suggest? Yellow elbows? The top vent plate of his backpack perhaps? As I progress with him, I'll be doing lots of freehand script-work on his armor in a chalky white color, and obviously he'll get the Red Hunters skull with the =][= symbol on his left shoulder pad. That will be a transfer that I glaze down a bit to have it match the rest of the dirty whites on his armor. Also, I know you can't see it in the pictures, but I painted the veteran cross on his right shoulder in white. I had originally painted the =][= on his helmet to extend down to the chin, but personally I think it looks much better stopping at his eyes. It's an interesting take on the veteran-sergeant helmet stripe.
Please post your comments and criticisms! I've been extremely busy with a new job lately, so progress has been slow. The good news is, this new job is going to allow me to spend much more money on new models, so once I get over the initial learning curve there and get normal hours, I'll be able to really start getting together the warbands I've been planning on.

Yeah the helmet may be a tad small, but I don't think it really detracts from the model. Right now I'm focused on getting the color scheme right before I start on the fine details.

I would agree that the back is too red. One idea would be to edge the tailplate (or butt protector, whichever you prefer ) like the shoulderpads. Not all the way around, just the bottom and maybe the sides.
I don't think the head is too small; I think it contributes to the heroic look.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I'm with you, I've decided that the back undoubtedly needs some yellow to break it up. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do the top vent plate on the backpack in yellow, and I may take your advice and do some yellow markings on his buttplate (I like that term). I've also been thinking about possibly doing some sort of yellow marking on the back of one of his legs, possibly a yellow =][= symbol or a squad marking. The next PIP shot will be under proper light, so you can get a good idea of what color the red really is.
Also in the works is some painting on my Redemptor, and I'm beginning to brainstorm something that could go up against Brother Tymon here...

When i plasticard stripe shoulderpads, i glue them 2mm onto the shoulderpad rim, to make them more imposing.
The torso is a bit.. narrow, which makes the head look small. (the heads look like melons on normal sm minis)
Also, edge the buttplate :p
other than that, good mini man

I'm actually pretty happy with the proportions. A lot of people go overboard with truescaling, in my opinion, and create these Marines that look like they need to go to fat camp. Gluing plasticard to the rim of the shoulder pads isn't a bad idea though, and that's something I can do pretty easily without damaging any of the rest of the model. I'm happy with the torso, and it reflects the proportions that I feel are ideal for a Space Marine.

I'm with you, Dex. I like the proportions you have here. Did you use terminator arms/legs and a modified marine torso?

So in the last two weeks I've been mulling in my head about the level of Blanche-ness in my work, and have decided I want some models to stand out as taking his inspiration further than others. While Fatboy Gyatso is clearly pretty far from the GrimDark image that John Blanche has laid out, I think the following two models I've thrown together are right on track.
This first guy is going to be part of my Hereticus group. Instead of adding a second Interrogator to the group, I wanted to add a zealous preacher to the group to round it out a bit. He was obviously inspired by PDH's WIP priest model, which was one of those models that took my wandering and unclear thoughts on the status of my own models and put me right back on track, working towards something I was proud of and happy with. Even though he is not a very involved conversion, and obviously made out of mostly Flagellant pieces with a few random bits thrown in here and there, he evokes the feel of a crazed preacher of the Imperial Cult, so obsessed with his faith that he's going to crack you over the head with a holy relic.
He's about 90% done the conversion stage. I just need to do a bit more sculpting on him (his right foot especially stands out to me as needing attention), and clean up some hiding mold lines, and he'll be ready for painting.
And what is more Blanche than a servo-dog?
Broke my heart to cut off his little head, but I love the end result of this one.
I'll be aiming to have these two models, in addition to Inquisitor Moretti (the guy converted out of the Chaos Sorcerer Lord) the Witch Hunter Interrogator and Mechanicus Engineseer from page 1, and the Acolyte from page 5 all painted up by the 24th for a Band of Brothers painting contest at my local GW shop. A few people have been asking me to paint up the Engineseer, and I've been dying to get down to some freehand work on Moretti's cloak for a while now, so I'm looking forward to tackling these guys. Updates are sure to come, and soon!

No fur for this guy, he's more or less finished in terms of conversion work. The servo-pup uses the hound bit from the Bretonnian Men-at-Arms command sprue as the base. I like the idea of having servitor-pets, and have at least one, maybe two more conversions in this theme planned for the future.
