Dante is pretty sweet, my one concern for him though is that a lot of people will look at him and think "Space Marine" and not "Inquisitor". Leaving out the shoulder pads and backpack has done a lot to tone down the Space Marine vibe, but I think it's going to end up being something you're going to struggle with when you come to paint him. Love the servo skull, and the reference to Y: The Last Man (at least I hope that's what it's referencing).

Nice job on Atlas. That's a difficult model to work with, and I should know. Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like you may be dealing with a pretty significant crease going down the side of the barrel of his gun. I'd make sure things are nice and smooth before painting. I'm really looking forward to see how you paint up his skin.

Hex is awesome. He's definitely the best of the bunch. Really clever use of the old face-stretched-over-a-shield piece. If I were to offer a suggestion to improve him, I would say to file down the oval ammo casing on top that is distinctly Dark Eldar, and shape it into something more angular.

Like others, I'm not a fan of Spectre. I think his biggest problem is not his pose, but that he's an Imperial Assassin, and every single piece on him is highly recognizable as being Dark Eldar. I think you should break out your knife and file, and shave down his legs and arms to get rid of the iconic Dark Eldar overlapping armor plates, and go back in with some green stuff and sculpt in muscle details (you did a good enough job with his on Atlas to make me believe you could pull it off with Spectre). I think you can get away with the head and torso, but to register as being an Imperial human, the gun definitely needs some work. The ovals and curves scream Dark Eldar, so I would either remove the barrel and scope and replace them with Imperial counterparts, or replace the entire rifle altogether. If you're looking for inspiration, check out my Inq28 blog in my sig and hop over to page 3. Custom weapons are actually pretty easy to put together if you're good at hacking apart guns and sticking them back together in different ways.

Red-Widow is great, and definitely reads to me as being a Rogue Trader. I would repeat some of my same criticisms about Spectre, but to a lesser extent. I think that her left arm in particular is very recognizable as being Dark Eldar, so at the very least I would remove the Dark Eldar symbol on her bracer. The flamer looks great, don't change a thing about it! I want to make a suggestion for her legs but I'm not sure what it would be. Looking at her, she looks a bit top-heavy, in that from the waist-up she is much more ornate than from the waist-down. Maybe add a wider piece of cloth hanging from the back of her waist? Not sure, if anyone has any ideas, please speak up!

Overall I'd say you've done a really good job creating a unique cast of characters, and they show amazing potential. They just need a few tweaks here and there to be perfect.

Cheers Dexter...very insightfull CC thank you, and believe me I've already had a good thumb through your blog

Dante well he is what he is really at this WIP stage, may add some more =I='s or purity seals however the fact is its a marine he's based off...in game any actual Marines will be truescale, like yourself, so will be less noticeable and with paint I'll try out some fancy free hand stuff to make his 'un-powered' armour look less obivious and more ornate kinda along the lines of Witch Hunter Tyrus model.

Yes Atlas had a monster gap down the side of the stubber, it was a right ! The parts didn't fit well even before conversion...you can see it on the weapon on the box of the Lootas it was taken from...will try to smooth out some more...

Yep, must have a look at those DE parts then and try to remove more so they fit better with imperial human characters.

P.s. The Misfits are awesome! Have to make a model with a devil-lock sometime!

Cheers Gerner. Yeah I'm working on that now...removing all the over lapping armour plates, spikes and oval bits...pain in the haha but I think Spectre for one will look better and much more Vindicare-esque for it.

Ok so after recent CC from you guys, the warband has been tweeked...most noteably I've had another bash at Spectre...mark 2 if you will, see below for rough shot, thoughts?

Gun has had all DE 'ovals' shaved off, muzzle/barrel replaced, sight trimmed, skull icon and purity seal added, stock and mag added.
Body has had all spikes and most armour plates removed and feet made more rounded.

Cheers

To be honest, that's a much greater improvement than I was expecting so quickly. I'd say his rifle is almost there. The only thing keeping him in the Dark Eldar range is the massive egg shape at the beginning of the barrel. I would chop that off and replace it with something Imperial-looking (boxy).

DexterKong wrote:massive egg

Cheers Dex...yeah I shaved it down a tad so it was a little less 'eggy' but I kinda like it, think its gonna stay...right at the end of the egg shape that little cut away bit is very similar to the =I= symbol, almost a visual link there with out stamping a big =I= on him...however body will need major work now as he's a little on the thin side...might add some shin guards?

I can't argue with you there, the =][= symbol is pretty handy. I'd say use your green stuff to add in some Imperial-looking armor plates on him to bulk his legs out a little. He's looking damn good.

The warband is rather excellent , love the countess , the new improves spectre is better , not leaning back now , i agree with dexter about the egd shape though , although aesthetically it looks cool , i does remind me of a deldar weapon , no bad thing in itself mind, just think boxier would scream imperial weapon more. the I symbol is a nice touch though. great work all round.

Hi all, so this is my last post on here for a while...TBH I've been ever so slightly ignoring my real life issues to crack on with these, and although more fun, thats never a good thing

I've written some fluff for my Inq characters if anyone is interested you can find it here.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Inquisitor%2028mm%20Back-stories/Fluff

Festus Hex and "Atlas" Jack's stories will be completed in the next few days and uploaded so check back for those.

I will however be getting myself some paints together and hitting up both projects with some colour. So next update will hopefully be 12 painted scavvy Plague Zombies to accompany "The Flood" to battle. I want to test colours and my painting skills out on those first before commiting to any models pictured in this thread. I also plan to build a true-scale marine character so he might be in there aswell...

Thanks a million for all the kind words and interest and I'll see y'all soon!

Sorry all not an update as such, I need help with a 'search', wanted to quiz you guys with this one:

I need to find a very large plastic or resin back pack/stowage bag full of equipment, relics and junk for an Imperial servant/squire character to be carrying around on his back...the larger the better really, could even be a large chest or trunk to give it a more fanasty feel?

I found these bags which are cool, kinda what I was thinking but maybe too modern day miltary and not 40k enough?

Can anyone help?

The backpacks on the FW Ork Kommandos would work perhaps. They may need to be "de-orkified" a bit, though.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Yeah I looked at these too, thanx Cadaver, only downside is can't find them as 'single bits' on any of the usual bits companies and don't need/afford the full FW pack.

Bits and Kits has a few available but only in one type. If they get a FW restock soon you should be able to snag a few more.

Nothing else comes to ind at the moment aside from IG Heavy weapons backpacks. I use those a good bit for Necromunda gear packs.

Thanks Ghostflame.
Now seeing they are 1/35 scale I think they are too big for what I need.

Ta very much lads for all ya imput...Well I've gone for a mix of Space Marine bike stowage, an IG ammo box and a WHFB chest. I'll tie them all together with a bit of GS and stick some relics and junk on there too, should all look suitably disorganised and heavy for the poor b@stard to carry about with him!

Right! I Promise, promise I'm buying paints today (I got a GW voucher for my birthday! Win! ) So next update will be something painted up, as I'm sure you're all as sick as I am of staring at lifeless grey/green shapes!

Mr Merlin - Most definitely worth it. But thank god I don't play computer games.

Ghostflame - When you start to run out of skull white replace it with Vallejo Model Colour white....the dropper pot means your white stays pure rather than turning pinky (well thats what happened to my pot of skull white every time). ModelZone shops stock these Vallejo....they taste worse than GW ones too.

What?! Why the hell not PDH! Haha like 70% of my inspiration for models comes from them I'd said.

Cheers for the tip mate...yeah I remember the taste of paint, after licking the brush to get a good point...happy memories.

But tell me, did you ever spend a morning filling down an old lead model to then go eat ya lunch without washing your hands? I did this quite often as a youth *cough cough splutter*
