Wow, that is a lot of paint!
Another time, if you are low on cash and want them to stretch extra far (as me), buy "Wayland Mini Paint Pack" which is six GW paints/washes/foundations (of own choice) for 11 pund.
They often have free shipping vouchers and for me it's almost half price.
The downside is that they are incredible slow at stocking and handling your order, so patience is a must.
Hope it helps.

Gerner you're a gent, thanks for the tip mate, I will investigate...well its done now. Typically OCD, I couldn't have just bought a few...no I had to get nearly everthing just incase
I hope to be at least as good as I was before I had a break from the hobby, otherwise this could all be a very expensive mess!

Thanks mate! There are some really, really skilled people on here (yourself included btw) and only ever a limited amount of bits/kits out there to use, so I'm very pleased my first stab at this sort of thing has been recieved so well thus far. I'm still a bit nervous to paint them but (as pictured on previous page) I have no excuses now

I'm not going to tell you to get painting, I'm not that kind of a hypocrite, but you know we should do so.
Spending a lot of money on paints ey? I bought a mega paint set, a set of 30 secret weapon washes, a set of 16 model air metallics and some random model colors during the last few months, but I feel it was worth it. The part that hurt was spending money on proper paint racks, bloody expensive piece of cardboard crap.

Whilst that's somewhat true, INQ28 is about the 40k universe away from the battlefields of the front lines. The shadowy and undiscovered corners; the enemies that stalk man within their own hab-stacks. So it's good to try to come up with unique models, rather than figures that would look too at home amongst a 40k army. After all, these are not figures, but characters - individuals whose actions and decisions can change the fate of millions...
...no pressure then!

@ Whigwam - Thanks mate, will have some thing worth showing soon!
@ Baiyuan - The will is there, the paints are there, just waiting on the zombies
@ Molotov - Totally mate, well put! I'd even go further with Inq. Dante's warband as they're meant to be anti-heros/near heretics themselves so should look different to other more puritanical groups out there. (I'll be building some "good guys" next who will have a more classic look, more imperial. )
What I meant was amongst Dakkas Inq. Community trying to make something unique is really tough...for example Captain "Atlas" Jack is based on the nurgle lord model...PDH has a character based on him too, Migsula has one, DexterKong has another, Logan too...Do you know what I mean?

I think that's more of a case of new miniature buzz. A brand new, plastic Warhammer leader drops onto the shelves, oozing(literally) with character, it's little wander a dozen or so people grab him up at the first opportunity. What you have to take into account is, despite each fatty having the same hallmarks as the others, each one is totally unique to the other.
PDH's is an overweight arco flagellant wielding a giant chain axe and covered in purity seals.
Migsula's Borsus is totally different as well, a sort of obese grey knight aesthetic going about him, kinda showing symbols of purity, through it's gauntlets, and cap, whilst the enormity of his gut symbolizes and excessive lifestyle. It's an interesting juxtaposition; perfect for a radical warband.
DexterKong's is totally unique again. It's a giant of a monk, morbidly obese, and armed with a high powered sniper rifle. The pose is totally unlike anyone else's on the forum, and I'm a personal fan of how 'clean' his flesh is. Everyone's Nurgle Lord conversions are in various states of decay; even PDHs with all the bruising marks, whereas this guy, smooth as a babbies bottom. It makes it unique all on it's own.
Logans... It does bear hallmarks of Migs, but I feel that would be no fault of his own, and how could it, it's such a dramatic pose to start with. What I like about Logans is how it really uses the miniatures stature to pull off the size of the weapons he's carrying. They're enormous. I also love that sort of desperate sense of hygiene he has going with it. He may be a corpulant, morbidly obese monster, but he's taking measures to prevent it getting worse; or attempting to, with his tiny gasmask fixed to his face.
I think my point I'm trying to make, is that each of them are really unique, their only common denominator is their pose, which is really unchangeable without ludicrous work, and the gut. Anyway, don't try to make things that are unique, instead go for things that you personally think are cool. In my Kroot warband that I started, and never finished way back when, I created Kroot Juves, and a female Kroot with breasts. I remember people complaining, but I thought it looked nice, they weren't over the top, and importantly, it was something I wanted to do!

Coolio! Well m'zombies arrived the other day. I rushed building them a little, bit sick of it ATM and really want to paint now...
Nothing fancy just some slight kit bashing. I was gonna have heads lopped off, arms missing etc...but it was a lot more work and well I just couldn't be bothered. The Manic models are nice as they are. My only slight complaint with how they look is they aren't very 40k, but they are clearly different to the gang so thats the main thing, and they're literally fodder so...They have a nice ghoulish look to them rather than the classic 'shuffler' zombie, heres a quick snap below, you can zoom the pic in my gallery, its not very clear on here.
Right then PAINT!

@ Baiyuan - Cheers for the tip mate, I will use that next time. Well as a lad I was pretty good when copying the scheme from a white dwarf or a codex but I never liked the things I did from my own Imagination that much. I've spent quite a few years studying art since then but haven't painted at this scale in years so we'll see. I've been brushing up on the theory a little...I think if I can find a good reference I'll do ok...that or I'll just copy PDHs! Haha Joking!

Haha great no pressure then
Well Baiyuan I'm a '90's gamer/painter, 40k was a much neater and pristine universe in turns of painting back then. SM, IG, Orks, everyone really was painted up very cleanly. Maybe the odd tank or vehicle would have some 'damage' or slight weathering but that was about it...However I want these guys to be absolutely flithly, covered in rust, dirt, scum and blood! I've never purposely made a model look mucky before so will have to experiment. I did collect WHFB Undead for a bit and made all their weapons and armour worn and dulled but not to the same degree as I want with these Scavvies...
Well all plague zombies are 100% built now so just need to find 5 mins to spray 'em and get cracking

Yeah me too, the others are a bit meh...their "squat" style space dwarfs are kinda cool if ya into that business. Yeah LDD I thought about that but truth is I've not got pouches/ammo belts or grenades in any great number ATM, the ones I do have are ear-marked for other things, plus in my mind if a zombie was wondering around down there in the Underhive with any decent gear on his person I think an agile and brave scavvy would run up and have it off him so yeah...
lone dirty dog wrote:Studied art hey ! Expectation is rising now hoping to see some real depth and character in you're painting style, special techniques galore even tips and shared techniques.

Oh Christ! I wish I hadn't said anything now... I will just point out that although an arts background will always help when being creative, fine art/illustration and mini painting are very, very different disciplines...A great mini painter will most likely be able to draw pretty well however a great artist/illustrator might not be able to paint minis that well at all. I think the real key to minis is practice, experince, trying out new things and then more PRATICE! I haven't practiced...full stop, only have some limited experince, years ago now, and can't really try out too much as these as they're all one-offs and if I mess one up I'll be gutted...thats why its Zombies first...I can always buy more Zombies! Haha
I keep banging on about PDH's work here...I hope your taking this all in Peter! They'll be no more @ ss-kissing after this mate! but if I can get them to near his standard I'll be very pleased indeed!

I feel you man! Theory is not praxis. Don't make the same mistake as me and take your models too seriously. Just get going, everything is part of the learning process. There are no holy cows, butcher those models, the next tiers will be better and better. (If only I could heed my own counsel...)

I get what you mean with the differences in artistic execution, however you did bring this upon yourself as you mentioned you were a fairly talented young painter.
Add this to I have art background gives the illusion of trained talent ……. maybe it is wiser not to play all your cards upfront
You don't have to 40k all the zombies just the odd one with a pouch or water canister, no need to overload them just a little piece does the trick

Painting Update!
EDIT- Re-shoot/Not original image posted
So here we go guys...my first painted mini in 15 years...A test plague zombie/ghoul for my Scavvies. My photo skills need work its really hard getting a good shot of a painted model! Had to edit it a bit of compensate but colours are an ok match for the real thing.
So he's got your classic blue/grey undead skin thing going on. I managed to work in the 3 new techniques I wanted to try out on this guy: Slight OSL on eyes, realistic gore and some rust/weathering/muck. Most of him went pretty well but really struggled with is shirt/rags, took ages, still not 100% about it but will do. I Looked on the manic webpage and I've only gone and totally over complicated the whole paint job on it, so that would be why eh...its not ment to have that many creases in it! Duh.
Well cheers for looking and all comments welcome!
