I'm by no means an expert when it comes to painting, but on my Ork Nobz, i drybrushed tin bitz then drybrushed boltgun metal over it, and it looks quite good for weathering imo.........but like i said.......i'm no expert.

I'll try and post some pics soon

Excellent, thanks! Sent that along in another report, had no feedback from the mods yet though. Considering the hilarious state of DeviantArt, I imagine they are extremely busy.

I can imagine how enraging that must be to the genuine painter to see some giant douche take the credit.
Your painting is looking really good and living up to my high expectations of your work - getting better all the time too. Hope you get lots of commissions and kudos.

I guess there would not really be any point getting angry about it, the people who believe him would not likely be the kind of people looking for commissions or who were really into painting in fairness, or they would spot the lies pretty quickly. Even if you did not recognise those mini's, the insane shifts in technique and style would raise flags ><
Also, thanks a ton Weets! So bloody happy that it does seem that I am improving, thats the most important thing for me. If I felt I was starting to go backwards I would nerdrage massively.

@JB, excellent dude. Thats another load sent in as reports /cheer

I think it is perhaps the sheer amount of same coloured metal on the figure that I found made it a bit overwhelming, I am no expert myself, but I find that the FW weathering powders are fantastic, even the ones you think you would never use (the green powder makes a very realistic mould effect!). Also, GW's hawk turquoise is, as I like to call it, insta-verdigris, great stuff!
Loving the termie with the missile launcher, can't wait to see them finished!

Aye you have a point on the lack of varity, its almost entirely silver. There is some tin bitz based areas in there too but they aren't showing up very well :( I think I finally got my white balance fixed for my shots but metals always either look very flat or far faaar too reflective when I shoot. More experimenting is in order!

I actually have some Vallejo verdigris effect in a bottle here but it is very odd stuff, I prefer hawk turquoise for coppers too, a very watered down layer looks pretty awesome, but I have only used it once or twice.. hmm, definitely have to start doing that again.

Thats bang on Broonba! Boltgun over tinbitz is an awesome quick dirty metal result, and looks awesome for Orks. I use tinbitz as the base for a lot of my metals as it works up real nicely to both golds and silvers, it is a fantastic paint, though I cheat and use Vallejp's tinny tin which has better coverage ;D

I have spent nearly 5 hours today painting dirt onto very clean models. I questioned if I might be a bit mad honestly.. but the weathering on them is done and tomorrow will be chipping the armor and putting up some shots Last little Grot is also well underway, will try and get some shots of him too for tomorrow.

And guys..

hope you are all prepared.

I used the Vallejo verdigris on my berserkers in my Chaos thread for the bronze, I find you really need to water it down a lot but it looks really nice. I prefer it to using Turquoise.

And outstanding work as always Iffy, that mek was way cool, and as others have said, awesome lenses.

I really dig the ork, well done!

As to weathering powders, when I use them, I use Tamiya. I haven't had much occaision for them other than rocking out some mud and dust on some tanks, but the little compact style works really well it seems. Just gotta use different applicators for effect I find... the straight sponge is ok till it dissolves.

Oh dear god I got Skyrim'd so hard, it has finally released me from its vice like nerd grip, so here are some updates!

Final grot is in the very last stages, just needs his cleanup and for his poster to be decided on, then for that to be painted on and the paper aged

Space Wolves weathering is done on all their armor areas, think I have improved from the first one so I am actually pretty happy with these, skins are next!

Some early shots of a legion of the damned Terminator to basic standard, experimented with a relatively easy to get but nice bone effect for him so I could get it down nicely without going over tabletop standard and I think it looks quite nice bar the smudge of black on his top right earhole vent (wat?)

A lot more of these dudes on the way

So I went with something I could pull off on a small space for the grot, hopefully it gets his message across?

As for the Termie, got him finished and was extremely happy with how he turned out for tabletop standard layerings, but decided the final perfect touch would be to matte varnish him to get rid of the slight shines on the inks only for this to happen..

Absolutely disgusted, made the stupid nooby mistake of spraying without checking the weather outside, its nightime and misty and the moisture ruined him. No way to salvage, has to be repainted :( Posting him so the basic scheme idea can be seen anyway, so he is not entirely a waste. I could hit myself, seriously..

Oh dear Iffy thats one of my biggest fears with spray varnish, I'd suggest the brush on varnish from Vallejo.

It might take longer but youre never going to have that happen.

I tried giving it a satin varnish by brush after but it didint help :( Supposedly theres 2 types of frosting, one where the "Frost" is light reflected off little dents in the varnish, so varnishing again fills in the dents and solves it, and the other is the actual varnish turning cloudy and there is no fix for it.

I am completely disgusted, it is going in the bin, I am done with it. Vallejo brush on satin varnish from now on, period.

That's happened to me before Iffy, and I work in a climate controlled studio above the garage (in essence, part of the house). Frosted my chapter master figure after he was completely painted in my tranquility pattern. I think I got rid of the worst of it by hitting it with a gloss coat first then a dull coat afterwards... but he still looks off in my eyes. Just don't have the heart to strip him down and re-do him.

I tried re varnishing him and then when that failed brushed on more, but he was not fixable so I basically just repainted all his armor bar the bone and re-inked the flames and he turned out ok

Lesson learned however.. not touching the stuff again.

Space wolves are progressing nicely, armor/skin/shoulder details/golds are done, mouths, accessories, hair, power fists and shield weathering to go. Look at that intense lack of detail on the right power fist, wow. That will be fun to.. paint.

Termies are flying along, first batch done pending review from owner, may still change some things. I think they turned out nice and crisp for tabletop standard.

Sorry to hear about the varnish episode , but thanks for posting about it , i have never used GW spray on varnish , i shall be quite wary of purchasing it in future.

The termies are very clean and crisp , but its the space wolves i adore , so much dirtiness, i love it!

Any type of hobby supplies that say citadel on it, I tend to steer clear from. Always seem to have some kind of issue. Their best stuff from my experience is hands down the washes (devlan mud I say), but then again there are quite a bit of good washes out there so I guess that's a hard one to mess up. Their second best stuff is probably their paint, but for someone like me who doesn't paint very often they tend to dry out too quickly for my taste.

That aside, awesome wolves going on there. The powerfist and shield are especially nice (what color is that btw? Hawk turquoise?). Is the plan to do the same on the other two wolves?
Personally I'm not a fan of the flaming stuff, but it still looks good and I more than dig the Blue Man Group in there!

I'm at this point wary of purchasing anything from GW >< Having never had a problem with anything I have used from Vallejo has really edged me towards them honestly.
I am thrilled with how the termies turned out but have to agree, the wolves are reaaaaally fun right now.

Yes the washes, the washes are fantabulous, except for the odd issues I have had with them drying cloudy. If you are having problems with their paint drying really fast, try transfering it to dropper bottles and using a really quick to make wet pallet with some wet kitchen paper and some grease proof paper on top. I've managed to keep the same paints for years now, I bought a mega paint set back in 2004 and am still using them as they never got to dry out in their awful GW pots, lol.

The powerfist and shield are hawk alright, well done for noticing The other two now have the same glow effects, I will get shots of them soon. The blue man group are now grey per the owners request, I agree that it looks much nicer!

I am really happy with how these turned out considering their very limited scheme ( especially the captain) so here are two GIANT piccys of the full finished unit to tabletop standard. Click for massimo!

I really am super happy with the capitano, his flames are mostly on his back, like so.

Your kicking ass Ifalna! The captains cloak looks like a real masterpiece. SO neat and tidy it looks real.

I'm going to need some new paints soon - you recommend citadel for washes so I might check them out. Any other suggestions?
I'm amazed that my old citadel washes have lasted 15-16 years, but I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

Cheers gits Keeping them clean was what I was aiming for. It feels harder to get good results at tabletop standard if you aim for dirtied up mini's, keeping them clean gives a much crisper end finish if you have a tidy little base imo.

Weeeetys! Cheers The cloak is very simple but quite nice int he hand. The joys of using inks really sped up getting a vivid fire colour over black, they really saved the day for all the flame effects.

The only washes I have tried are Citidel so I can't really give varied advice, but I have nothing negative to say about them at all. They do exactly what they say they will do with no minimal hassle! By the way, I've been looking through my mini boxes and found a couple of really old marines I forgot I had, like, really old. Ill Pm them to you if you would like them at all, they would look awesome with your brilliant paint schemes and I could send them down as a Dakka chrismas pressie, lol.

The model is 50/50 for me. On one hand its a nice sculpt, very dynamic, but on the other it must be a right horror to try and convert, I've rarely seen one used that wasn't the bog standard out of the box version!

I like the sig too ;D Im getting around to Pm's now, been playing Swtor since early access religiously.
