Stunning work on the Big Mek Iffy... you're right... you really did nail the skin. My wife is starting to wonder why I just don't send you the rest of my army! (I tell her I'm sending you just the best parts....)

Iffy the work you've done on the Big Mek so far is really well done, the skin tone is what I'd call perfect for an Ork. I really like the hazard stripes you've done on the cable, that would drive me mad lol.

The Dark Eldar is really nice so far, you are really good with your skin tones and it shows. Is she a practice piece or part of a commission?

Mek's looking very nice so far, looking forward to what you do with the cigar OSL

lipsdapips - You should be able to just write the text under the pic in your reply and it should appear that way in your post.

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I am really impressed with the skin on the mek! It almost makes the metal look a bit flat by comparison. Can't wait to see the big lad finished up!

The "Forums" link under the share this picture table on the dakka gallery page Just copy paste the while thing in and start writing under it.

Thanks a ton The hazard stripes may have been redone over and over and over, but at this point I am probably already mad so they did no harm. The Eldar is a practice piece but will end up on Ebay instead of gathering dust in the lonely existence that is my storage cupboard. I went for pretty much the complete opposite of the Ork to keep me loose, bright and clean.

monkeytroll wrote:Mek's looking very nice so far, looking forward to what you do with the cigar OSL

So was I but I actually scrapped the Osl for it! When it came time to paint it I realised adding it would make no sense. There is OSl from his green light, but he is not heavily shadowed so making the cigar really glow would be odd. I used a reference for a lit cigar and the only real way it would be creating a noticeable light source would be if he was in near darkness. If I had added OSL it would have kinda looked like he was smoking a flare. I guess that could happen though, considering his Orkyness.

He is finished up now and I had a load of shots of him ready to go, but I am not that happy with them so am going to retake more to try and get less grainy ones Expect pics tomorrow!

Completely plausible IMHO.

Actually used up all my camera charge on the initial shots so had to recharge it hah, I used white background for these to not miss out on any detail. Think I might have gotten the colour balance right at last, but I am afraid to say so or I will jinx it D:

This pic is absolutely huge so you can click and zoom.

There are a few little whispy bits sticking out which are tiny resin filaments, Im going to clip them down now, they were just hard to see untill the white background. One Gobbo to go, responding to Pm's now

Thanks so much for the feeback dudes! Seems his lenses were a big hit which is awesome as I spent a lot of time on them Gloss varnish as a final layer makes a huge difference to lenses, and I super recommend it to anyone painting gems or lenses or even eyes, or the insides of mouths.

It makes a lovely difference.

I sent out some Pm replies and am heading back to work on more mini's now Lots in early WIP stages, but nothing worth posting yet hehe. Still working on Lil in between others, she is slowly getting there though her skin needs a bit of cleanup before I start on the armor fully.

Still trudging along working up mini's, just wanted to post some pics of these 2 wolves because of the really fantastic conversions I think the owner did.

This is their second full base coat, the 3 airbrushed layers wiped off with brush strokes on the first run, turns out the shade of vallejo model colour I used for the base grey has to be left to dry for nearly 24 hours after airbrushing or it wipes off with a fingertouch. Very strange stuff, but works out nice as a base with the 2 lighter greys brushed on from above. next up on these is the washes and weathering, something I am really starting to enjoy.

Really love that converted launcher.

It is massive, and super detailed

Need some help by the way guys, can anyone find the original owner of this?

I know I have seen it around plenty, but this one dude on Deviant Art has a profile full of nothing but stolen images he is telling people he painted and then had the cheek to tell me to check out his gallery >< Reporting them one by one but need the original links.

People like that really drive me up the wall. I see a couple of GD entries in his gallery and I know for a fact that the owners lived in different parts of the globe

Unfortunately, I can not place the Eldar fella though the paint style reminds me of one of the eavy metal artists (I recognize the nmm blue), could't say who though!

Nice work on the FW ork! That skin tone is fabulous and those lenses... The metal areas look a little bland for my tastes but I do have a bad habit of plastering them all with rust Weathering powders!

It is mindblowing really, I would be ok with it if he was saying they were not his and where he got the images, but it is so frustrating to see the comments from others complimenting his paint jobs ><

There is definitely room for improvement with my metals. I still feel each time I try weathering on them it is a learning experience! They do look a bit better IRL than they do in the shots as the light is reflecting off them a bit much, but weathering powders would indeed make a big difference.

Is there any particular brand/colour you would recommend? Would love to find a tutorial for them too.

I have a feeling that the merit stealer has been dealt with - the link you posted goes nowhere now. Good.

I can imagine how enraging that must be to the genuine painter to see some giant douche take the credit.

Your painting is looking really good and living up to my high expectations of your work - getting better all the time too. Hope you get lots of commissions and kudos.

Well, the Space Marine Painter diorama was quite likely not by a guy from Australia. It was reportedly the creation of a German guy named Markus Haverbierl, who won third in the 2007 German Games Day Golden Demon for the Open Category.

The Unofficial Golden Demon Winners website

Any Germans out there that know Markus or saw the mini at German Gamesday 2007?

The monowheel IG figure is a combination of a Tobsen77 monowheel with a Copplestone Castings British HMG guy. That paintjob is from Tobsen77's website. I remember it from Kroothawk's post earlier this year.

The painter was anevilgiraffe. Unfortunately this piece isn't mentioned in his blog, but you might email him to point out that someone is taking credit for his paintjob.

The yellow Ork Stompa on the Leman Russ treads is by a guy from Colorado who goes by the name Mordian7th on The Waaagh! website. See this thread for the whole army done in that scheme with pics.

The conversion of the Eldar Exodite Lord on a Carnosaur is viewable on CoolMiniorNot. It's by a guy named Kotrin.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I think it is perhaps the sheer amount of same coloured metal on the figure that I found made it a bit overwhelming, I am no expert myself, but I find that the FW weathering powders are fantastic, even the ones you think you would never use (the green powder makes a very realistic mould effect!). Also, GW's hawk turquoise is, as I like to call it, insta-verdigris, great stuff!

Loving the termie with the missile launcher, can't wait to see them finished!
